Academy City.

As the city's name suggests, it is a city of several schools and institutions of higher learning from kindergarten to university level that learn side-by-side along with the scientists who research on psychic powers and higher technology, the latter being one of the primary reasons for its establishment. It is the most advanced city in the world and its technology is said to be 20 or 30 years ahead of the world. Academy City is composed of 23 districts, called School Districts which are simply numbered from one to twenty-three and each of these districts have a specific purpose.

And somewhere in District 7 was a location known as Tokiwadai Middle School.

Considered one of, if not the best premier school. Conditions to enter the school were so tough that the school once rejected an imperial daughter mercilessly, creating international strife as a result. The school shared its ground with it's recently established high school branch - Tokiwadai High School which is connected by specific hallways. There were even future plans to make a Tokiwadai University sometime soon, along with renaming Tokiwidai into Tokiwadai Academy in the next few years. And after that came four other noble girls' schools adjacent to it. It wasn't because there wasn't enough land; rather, it was to create a more stable security system through joint venturing.

Those areas were collectively known as the School Garden, and the area it occupied was more than fifteen times the size of an ordinary school. Even so, it didn't give the feeling that the place was huge. Besides the experimental facilities that were required for the large number of special lessons, many crafting and shopping facilities were crammed in there as well; it was because all the esper powers development equipment was developed there and was not sold to the outside world to prevent the top-secret technology from being leaked out. The view of each facility was Western, and as a whole, the place looked like a Mediterranean town. Even the road signs and traffic lights designed in the School Garden were different from the outside world.

Suddenly, an explosion occurred. It shook the school buildings, sports hall, garden, and everything on the ground. The condensed mist would be present throughout the surroundings. The explosion was centered on a swimming pool where Mikoto Misaka, standing tall with confidence, with the water dripping from her face, with her right arm still raised, having carried out the action of a railgun, fired at a continuous rate of 8 shots per minute and a projectile distribution of 18.9mm.

And while on the outside, her face was confident, there was still the lingering thought that was present within her mind due to the encounter that she had with A Certain Spiky-Haired Boy a few days prior. She had been thinking about him ever since he first showed up out of nowhere, with an overall commanding presence that made her stand down from her usual snarky remarks and the fact that the boy had managed to put an appropriate level of intimidation that managed to let the delinquents gathered near her to not try to intervene as he takes her away by the arm and leads her away from them.

There was also something that she took note of when she looked back at it. The fact that her power didn't function at the time. And it made her want to know and investigate this young man who seem surprisingly acquainted with the Tokiwadai Dorm Supervisor due to seeing the latter's reaction to the former, especially when considering the fact that the Supervisor would tend to smile which would send her brains to "not compute" due to the sheer impossibility of such a genuine feeling that was present. The smile showed a sign of trust, a rarity when it came to the Supervisor who is known for her strict nature.

Naturally, she once asked the Supervisor, if a bit hesitantly, as to who was the young man who had brought her back to the dormitory. The Supervisor in turn would not hesitate to say this with a smile of understanding which was starting to weird her out.

"His name is Kamijou Touma, a young man who attends a certain high school not too far from here. And when it comes to him in particular, know that you could trust him if you ever as much as encounter a problem that may be beyond your ability to solve when the time is right."

That was quite the strangest and the vaguest answer that she had been given. And this answer was still being pondered by Misaka as she would examine the latest Railgun that was applied through the use of the Lorentz force, the combination of the electric and magnetic force on a point charge due to electromagnetic fields.

"I suppose that this is good enough," Misaka would mutter to herself softly, satisfied for now yet still deep in thought for the young man that she had encountered a few days ago.

Somewhere deep underground within the perimeter of School Garden was a secret military facility that consisted of state-of-the-art advanced technology and equipment that is used to monitor the premises of School Garden, with a special focus on Tokiwadai Middle School and Tokiwadai High School.

There were many people wearing the standard black-grey military combat uniforms that seem to be incorporated with biohazard gear with standard military webbing and equipment, composed of boots, protective vests, and gloves. Many of those who were assigned to positions as operators were wearing lab coats and black business suits, checking the comm-channel frequencies for continued chatter as emitted by some of the holographic screens that were displayed nearby the control panels that were likened to that of EM waves.

One holographic screen was showing Mikoto Misaka firing her signature Railgun which was analyzed by the scanners.

Measurements:

Initial Velocity: 1030 m/s

Continuous fire: 8 shots/min

Trajectory deviation: 18.99 mm

Overall performance: Level 5

"Well, gentlemen, what do you both think about the kid?"

That was the question of a man with grey hair, wearing a black business suit which would include the jacket, pants, underwear, tie, socks, and leather shoes, with the only exception being the dress shirt which was white. He has both of his arms placed behind his back, with two hands joined together.

This was Councilman Max Walker—O5-12, a member of the O5 Council.

"I must say that it is quite impressive indeed Councilman, don't you think so Eric?"

There was a man who spoke, smiling in turn. He has bald head features, somewhere between the late 80s to early to mid-90s, and is seated in a modified wheelchair with "X" wheels, wearing a light grey business suit which would consist of a grey jacket and pants, white dress shirt and tie, black socks and black shoes.

This was Professor Charles Francis Xavier, also known as Professor X, the leader and creator of the X-Men and the founder of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, and one of the most powerful telepaths on MV Universe-616. He is also known to be a part of the Avengers.

"Yes Charles, I must admit. This girl has proven quite capable of her gifts ever since we first had her under our watch. Her powers, when looked at it from one perspective, are quite similar to my very own. With time and a little guidance, she may prove to be quite the powerful individual in her own right."

Another man spoke, nodding in turn while having his arms crossed. He had grey hair that is worn over by a maroon color scheme helmet, somewhere between the late 80s to early to mid-90s, wearing a more conservative and formal attire consisting of an aesthetic that was reminiscent of a garb worn by Roman centurions. A dark grey Nehru tunic which extended down to form a half skirt on the right-hand side. Extending from out of the backside of the tunic was a flowing cape with a crimson silk lining that draped over the left shoulder. Black boots with attached metal rings and metal-plated heels were worn over the suit's dark grey trousers. He wore black leather gloves and a modified silver utility belt, with the "X" symbol seen from the center.

This was Max Eisenhardt, also known by the names Erik Magnus Lehnsherr and Magneto, ruler over the mutant nation of Genosha, once known for being the leader of the Brotherhood, and now currently an X-Men once again. He is also known to be a part of the Avengers.

"Speaking of potential students Charles, I assume that your Mental Out is doing a fine way of using her gifts and not slacking off in regards to her training," Magneto said, sporting a pointed knowing expression.

Professor X with a proud smile. He said. "Oh, I do believe that Misaki had done quite a splendid job with regard to her training. And said training is to be applied with interest when it comes to her line of work in the Foundation as much as the good Councilman had reported to me," he said, looking towards Councilman Walker who couldn't help but sport a confident smile.

"Why of course, Professor. After all, she is one of our Angels in the field," Councilman Walker simply said with a subtle smile.

"My, my. It looks like Misaka-san is at it again, it seems."

Misaki Shokuhou, the #5 Rank Level 5 Esper of Academy City - Mental Out, a very powerful ability involving the human mind which includes mental control, reading other people's memories, telepathy, changing a person's personality, willpower and memory destruction, revelation and transplantation of emotions, brainwashing, and psychometry.

She was an elegant beauty, sporting long straight hair of golden color. Aside from her Tokiwadai summer uniform, she wears a pair of white gloves and stockings, both adorned with laces. She is also seen holding a shoulder bag with a star adorned in the middle. Her eyes are also gold colored, however, one notable feature of her eyes is that they have star designs on them. Literally, she is a starry-eyed girl. She claims that she was born that way. The unique feature that would prove to be quite the center of attention and one that would draw the ire and jealousy of some is due to her large breasts which were rumored to have come from specific elements out of the norm. In reality, however, it was only because of the result of puberty and nothing more.

As of this time, she had already finished her System Scan Test and is now enjoying newly brewed tea for the time being. She was simply seated on a chair, sporting a simple elegant smile on her face, overlooking the spectacle that happened on the pool from the side of the balcony. And seated alongside her were at least four individuals.

A beautiful young woman with a slender body frame, long lavender hair with ringlet curls, and purple eyes. Serves as the right-hand of Misaki Shokuhou when it comes to the management of her clique. She is known to have an ability called Rampage Dress, the power to manipulate the electrical signals in her cells to draw out further strength. This allows her to strengthen her sense of smell by increasing the sensitivity of her olfactory cells, or to perform superhuman maneuvers by boosting her muscle cells.

Junko Hokaze.

A young woman with long dark hair, wearing a Tokiwadai summer uniform. She is known to have an ability called Astral Buddy, the power to remove her AIM Diffusion Field and isolate it as an AIM thought being modeled after her physical appearance. In other words, likened to that of becoming a sort of ghost.

Senya Yuuri.

A young woman with purple-colored hair styled into twin tails and purple-colored eyes, wearing a Tokiwadai summer uniform. Serves as the right-hand of Misaki Shokuhou when it comes to. She is known to have an ability called Liquid Shadow, the power to have free control over liquids with a specific gravity of 20 or greater, which in her case, she prefers the use of liquid metal. The ability gives her high combat ability and she can remotely control the liquid from even several hundred kilometers away.

Mitori Kouzaku.

A young woman with long, wavy, chocolate-colored hair and chocolate-colored eyes, apparently as fluffy as cotton candy, wearing a Tokiwadai summer uniform. She has smaller breasts than Misaki Shokuhou but apparently has more beautiful legs than her, more than just long and slender. She is known to have an ability called Mental Stinger, the power to manipulate the brain by manipulating moisture, controlling the distribution of fluids, and the secretion of chemicals in the target's brain. Overall, a very similar ability to Mental Out.

Ayu Mitsuari.

Many of these young women were more or less sporting expressions of awe. The invisible umbrella shield that was activated by their phones had allowed them to not be rendered wet by the drops of water that were falling down from up above as an after-effect.

"As expected of Misaka-san," Junko would say with a smile, bringing both hands together. "Her ability has improved much since a year ago. I should know as I've been teaching her more applications of her power as an electromaster."

"Yes, I seem to recall that the Dorm Manager had asked you to teach Misaka-san due to your similarities in terms of ability," Mitsuari smiled as she looked toward the direction where the explosion had taken place.

"And to think that she was once considered to be the weakest among the Level 5 over a year ago," Mitori said, sporting an impressed and intimidated expression as she shakes her head. "Time sure knows how to fly by every so often."

"Ah yes, time. How could we ever get enough of that?" Mitusari said, sporting a knowing smile of reminiscence on her face, indirectly referencing "time" to summarize their amazing and out-of-this-world experiences in the past. "And speaking of time, now I wonder what the Doctor is up to at this time?"

"That man is probably busy having adventures of his own out there. You know just how he lives his life by now, Mitsuari-san," Misaki said in a slight exasperated tone while recalling A Certain Old Man travelling in his iconic police box, taking the cup of tea that was placed onto the table, taking a sip and tasting the milk and sugar that was present, calming her nerves.

"Orrrrr he could just be visiting Kamijou-kun at this moment, Misaki-chan," Senya suggested, sporting a smile on her face. "I mean you never know considering how surprising the timing could be am I right?"

The three young women could only raise an eyebrow at the obvious pun that they would all be quite familiar with while Junko could only tilt her head in an innocent fashion. The three women would eventually glance at each other and sigh at the exact same time.

"You know what, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case knowing that old man," Mitori said, sporting an exasperated expression. "And if Yuuri-chan is right, then the Doctor probably grabbed Kamijou-kun when no one is looking and they would tend to go off to god knows where."

"Or perhaps they would just be gone for a few moments from our perspective and would eventually return home in time for tea," Junko suggested with a smile.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

"Hm?"

The five young women would sport surprised and curious expressions as they would hear a beeping sound. It was from a cellphone that was in Shokuhou's pockets, to which the latter, sporting a curious expression, would grab her phone, checking it on the screen.

Caller: Touma Kamijou

"Hm? My Prince?" Shokuhou sported a curious expression.

"Hm?" the four young women alongside Shokuhou would sport curious and attentive expressions.

Shokuhou would eventually put the phone on speaker mode so that everyone alongside her could hear the following conversation. She would sport her picture perfect smile as she said. "My Prince, what made you call at this time?"

Then a young man, Touma Kamijou, would answer. "Misaki, I just thought that I should tell you that I just got back from my adventures with the Doctor."

"Ah! I was right!" Junko said, sporting a pleased smile, with both hands joined together.

"(Sigh). Of course, she just had to jinx it," Mitori said, sporting an expression of exasperation which is accompanied with a smile.

"Kamijou-kun! Kamijou-kun! It's me, Senya! What adventures did you ended up having this time with the Doctor?" Senya would ask rather excitedly, standing up from her seat and walking fast a few paces towards Shokuhou who took notice of the former.

"Oh, Yuuri-san, you're there as well. Misaki, whose there with you besides Yuuri-san?" Kamijou asks from the phone.

"Aside from Yuuri-san, I'm with Mitsuari-san, Mitori-san, and Junko," Misaki answered.

"Kamijou-san," Mitsuari would sport a smile. "If you can for now, please explain to all of us what you've been through in your adventure with the Doctor. You know just how curious us girls are at this point?"

"Oh, well then, I suppose that I should tell you all about the first adventure that I had with the Doctor. And that kinda involved me, Clara-sensei, Pink-sensei, and a few of the guys in Team TARDIS getting involved in a skirmish with the Sontarans and Rutans a few universes away, located back in the Doctor's home universe," Kamijou explained.

"Oh, those warmongering potato heads and those amorphous green blob jellyfishes. Of course," Mitori said, shaking her head in remembrance of the aforementioned alien races.

In a certain multi-complex cosmology (Whoniverse), there were two certain species that raged an eternal millennia-long war amongst each other that was referred to as the Rutan-Sontaran War. The Sontarans and the Rutans. The Sontarans were a humanoid race of belligerent and militaristic clones from the planet Sontar, created by the Kaveetch. They waged an eternal war throughout Mutter's Spiral against the Rutans, though they made no effort to change this nor did they want peace. The Rutans, also referred to as the Rutan Host or Rutan horde, were a race of amorphous green blobs who waged a millennia-long war with the Sontarans.

"I see," Shokuhou smiled sympathetically, recognizing the two species by name. "Anything noteworthy that happened there."

"Well we're actually trying to help a Gallifreyan official a.k.a. Coordinator Narvin from maintaining peace negotiations, putting both sides on a temporary ceasefire in order to settle their respective differences once and for all and finally put an end to their so-called War. It was all under the official orders of Lady President Romana who had assigned the Doctor in handling the delicate situation due to concerns that something might go wrong. As it turns out, it did go wrong, and we kinda got caught up in a firefight that ended up forcing us to defend ourselves until reinforcements managed to arrive. Eventually, the treaty was signed and the entire conflict between the Sontarans and the Rutans was resolved, finally ending the Rutan-Sontaran War at long last," Kamijou explained.

"Sounds like quite an adventure, my Prince," Shokuhou smiled. "Anything else of noteworthy adventures that you would like to share with us?"

"Well, there were a few minor side trips here and there that it would take a while to explain in detail, so I figured that I'd tell you all later when I have the time," Kamijou explained.

"Awww. And I wanted to hear at least more of your adventures, Kamijou-kun," Senya said, pouting.

"Maybe next time, Yuuri-san," Junko reassured her old friend.

"Speaking of which, aside from my adventures, there's also the fact that by the time I got back, I just recently managed to knock out a couple of Skill-Out members that Seria had notified me of not long ago. Considering that I was the nearest person in the area, I'd figure that I would need to deal with it due to the fact that these Skill-Out members appeared to be involved in some kind of shady operation that was being cracked down currently by Judgment, and one that I've recently just heard from Seria. And speaking of Judgment, I believe that at this time, they are about to arrest those Skill-Out members as we speak," Kamijou explained.

[City Hunter OAS Vol.2] Footsteps [HD]

Somewhere in an alleyway...

"Damn it, what is she?!"

A thug wheezed as he dashed through with everything that he had. Questions of how, what, and why were being thought of as he tries to outrun his pursuer. But to no avail, as the thug came into the pursuer's line of sight, the latter's lips would curl into a confident smirk.

"Wait up now," the pursuer would say.

And suddenly, the thug would trip from his dash and land painfully on the pavement face-first. He would try to get up, but he was pushed back with a firm hand, the weight slamming hard against his body.

The pursuer appeared to be a young woman with tawny hair, tied into two curly pigtails; the rest of her hair is left to hang as two rows of fringes divided in the middle. Her pigtails are tied in place by a red bow each. Her hair is naturally curly and as such needs to get a straight perm for it. She currently wears the summer uniform of Tokiwadai and is wearing a special type of armband that consisted of green and white lines, with a shield at the center; an emblem belonging to the organization Judgment, Academy City's student-based disciplinary committee.

Kuroko Shirai.

"I'm with Judgment," she drawled, with the gurgled sounds of pain coming from the thug that is due to the agonizing position that he is now being put through. "You're under arrest for illegal firearms trafficking," she finished as she slapped on a handcuff over his wrist. A second later, the man suddenly found himself cut to a steel pipe, with the Judgment member dashing off in the opposite direction.

"Damn it," the thug cursed his predicament, trying to tug against the cuff ineffectually, before finally giving up and sighing heavily.

Meanwhile, the Judgment member, still running down the numerous pathways connected by the alley, took out her comm and placed it against her right ear. "Shirai Kuroko here. I've captured one of the suspects. Uiharu, where are the remaining scum?"

Kazari Uiharu.

Like Shirai, Uiharu was a member of Judgment, and the one who would usually provide the former some tech support just like what is currently happening right now.

"Take a left at the end of that alleyway and turn left again after another 5 meters," Uiharu said, calmly providing over the comm while typing from her keyboard.

"Understood," Kuroko returned as she kept the comm back in her pocket, sprinting to another side of the alleyway and would finally stop towards the location. Upon arrival, she got to her feet confidently, tugging her Judgment armband stiffly as she declared in her iconic posture. "This is Judgment! You're all hereby under arrest for..." but she could not continue due to the following reasons. And it was one that managed to surprise her.

What lay before her were all of the thugs knocked out unconscious, sprawled on the pavement in various defeated positions.

And thus, Kuroko could only mutter in confusion and surprise. "Eh?"

"Oooff!"

Agent Shiage Hamazura, an MIB Division Agent of the inter-multiversal organization, the SCP Foundation, was having one interesting day of his life. Somewhere in another alleyway of District 7, he was currently engaging several Skill-Out gang members who were currently involved in an illegal firearms trafficking operation which were apparent at the many littered boxes that were housing advance Mark 50 Photon Rifles, built and designed by Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.), a Dark Side Organization with multiple connections throughout Academy City and the rest of the world, and unbeknownst even to the world, one branch of many that are associated with the inter-multiversal organization, Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.).

Side step to the left, dodging a punch from one of the thugs. Agent Hamazura would take advantage as he performs a right hook to the face, sending the thug sprawling on the ground. Another two thugs would try to take him on, only for Agent Hamazura to perform a spinning kick that sends them rolling a few moments in the air before violently landing on the pavement.

From the left corner of his eye, he would someone who was fighting alongside him, already knocking out three thugs by himself through a series of punches. And this man was recently recruited into the Foundation as an informant due to his connection regarding this current operation.

Wataru Kurozuma.

He was the former leader of a Skill-Out faction called Big Spider, founded somewhere at The Strange, the term used to refer to an area located within District 10, Area G of Academy City. It is an area where there is a high prevalence of gang-related activity especially Skill-Out gangs and is the stronghold of Big Spider.

Back then, Big Spider were once a Skill-Out faction dedicated to being a place for Level 0s to have a place to belong too in Academy City. But now, it had eventually devolved into a violent gang that attacks espers. In Kurozuma's absence due to being thought of as dead, his old friend, Tsuguo Hebitani, had taken over as the new leader of Big Spider and led it to become the notorious anti-esper Skill-Out faction that many would know today.

Agent Hamazura could only feel sick at just the mere prospect of good intentions getting twisted by rather unfortunate circumstances. But then again, that's just how the Dark Side works. They would take even the lightest and most innocent of intentions and turn them completely on it's heads.

From the corner of his eye, he would spot his best friend and partner, Agent Jiang Haoyi, an MIB Division Agent from another world who was assigned as his partner since practically the beginning of his career. And they have been through their fair share of trials and errors throughout the years.

He would see Agent Haoyi perform an extended kick reminiscent of Chángquán, sending one thug towards the boxes, the sound of the wood cracking upon impact, knocking out the thug. Agent Haoyi would dodge a knife strike by a thug, grabbing hold of the latter's arm and sending him flipping over the pavement, employing a judo technique, knocking the thug out.

Agent Hamazura would eventually spot a thug that would try to escape the fight from the corner of his eyes. "Oh no you don't," he muttered as he drew out his Magnum Research .50 Action Express Desert Eagle handgun staser, setting it to stun. It would fire a blue ring that would stun the thug as his physical appearance would turn sharp blue before eventually returning to normal as he falls down to the pavement.

Agent Hamazura could only smile as he lowers his handgun, saying. "Still got it."

Then he would notice that all of the thugs were taken down with ease, with the only remaining fighters being himself, Agent Haoyi, and Kurozuma who all nodded to each other. Agent Hamazura would eventually press a button to his comm-link, making contact with the operator.

"Supervisor Onna-Musha, this is Agent Hamazura, we've secured the alleyway of all hostiles. Time to call Judgment to deal with these unconcious thugs and transport us away from this location," Agent Hamazura spoke from the comm-channel.

"Copy that, Agent Hamazura. Judgment is already at the scene a few meters north from your position. Standing-by for automatic transportation," Supervisor Onna-Musha, also known as the Tokiwadai Dorm Supervisor, would relay to the agent.

And then, the three men would suddenly get transported towards another location.

Once they were there. Now they weren't.

Max Payne 2 - Main Theme

Kuroko Shirai was stumped.

No, more than stumped. Confused. And other mixtures of feelings swelling within her in more ways than one.

It was sometime after the operation, specifically nighttime. Judgment had managed to confiscate nearly dozens of advanced weaponry of a sophisticated design that was being sold to a couple of Skill-Out members in response to an anonymous tip that was sent to their Judgment Branch Office a few days back. And since then, they had been cracking down on these illegal firearms shipments and arresting a couple of Skill-Out members along the way without further incident, with the weapons eventually being handed on to Anti-Skill for them to move these weapons towards someplace where they would never be used or see the light of day.

But that would lie the dilemma that she was currently having. The fact that things seem to be far too easy for them.

According to the official reports, many of the Skill-Out members would testify on seeing a spiky-haired boy getting the drop on them so suddenly without them as much as putting up a single fight. As to who this spiky-haired boy was, they didn't have a clue as to who this was specifically, but judging by the description of the boy, Shirai couldn't help but recall the rumors surrounding such an individual that originated last year, and it was one that she and many others in Judgment had tried to investigate, but to no avail, as they would always reach a dead end, without any single trace of evidence, with the exceptions being the testimonies of various people that may have encountered him here and there.

These rumors seem to be centered on a certain vigilante that is seemingly backed by Anti-Skill of all things, if a bit indirectly and off-the-books sort of way as there have been accounts of witnesses identifying some people affiliated with Skill-Out who were sighted alongside the vigilante. Whatever can be known about him remains unknown, but the rumors of this person seem to be connected to another rumor that would be referred to as A Certain Unknown Level 0 who had managed to bring fear to the heart of many of the loitering criminals and corrupted in the city and brought hope to lower level espers, especially that of Level 0s everywhere.

They say that sometimes, he wears a middle school uniform in relation to last year. Then that would change to a high school uniform in relation to this year. Most of the time however, he is said to be wearing a costume of all things which is accompanied by a trademark mask to hide his identity and a shield that seems practically invulnerable to many types of gunfire and other projectiles, being used for seemingly impossible feats. There appeared to be a Chinese dragon logo that is to be found in the center of his shirt and shield. He is also rumored to have state-of-the-art equipment that allows him to perform seemingly capable feats that would make him a match for at least Level 3 or 4 espers, "Like a superhero that came straight out from those manga and anime," or so some of those who gave their testimony had to say.

Kuroko Shirai was a firm believer of the law in relation to her work in Judgment, so quite naturally, she had a few misgivings when it comes to the subject of vigilantes, not really approving of such actions. But this one however was quite the special case and conundrum as he apparently had and still has the backing of Anti-Skill of all law enforcement ever since last year if the rumors are to be believed which is quite the dilemma for her. And it was a dilemma that she had been wrestling with since last year.

As of now, she was currently in her dorm room writing a follow-up report on what had occurred since the past few days. Then she would notice the front door knocking from behind her.

"Come in," she would say, still typing from her laptop keyboard.

All of a sudden, the door would open, revealing her roommate whom she had known for quite some time. And it was one that brought a smile to her face.

"Ah! Onee-sama," she would say, seeing the same young woman with chestnut hair, the Ace of Tokiwadai, who was her roommate. "You're back quite early just as always. It's quite surprising to be honest as I'd figure that you would be back much later as much as I could really."

The young woman, Mikoto Misaka, could only sport a simple smile. "Yeah well, I didn't feel like going out at this time, Kuroko. There was a lot in my mind that I needed to process. That and I didn't want to get in trouble with the Dorm Manager again. Speaking of which," she noticed that Kuroko had been quite busy on her laptop, seeing what appeared to be a written report relating to the work of the latter. "Ah that's right, you have been quite busy for these past few days as well."

"(Sigh). That's right, Onee-sama," Shirai sighed, turning back towards her work. "Lately, I'm trying to work on a follow-up report on the latest bust-up that I and a few others in Judgment had managed to find out. That anonymous tip that was sent to us a few days ago via email really helped us a lot as it allowed us to track down the locations of these weapons, arrest any of the thugs that were in the area, and managed to let Anti-Skill handle the rest."

"I see," Misaka would smile sympathetically. Eventually, she would hop into her bed and lie down, looking at the ceiling. "I guess that we both have quite the long day huh?"

"By the way, Onee-sama," Shirai said, concentrating on typing on the keyboard.

"Hm?" Misaka would look towards Shirai.

"There's something that I've wanted to ask you. A favor if you will," Shirai said.

"A favor?" Misaka sported a curious expression.

"My friend in Judgment, the one who is always responsible for backing me up when it comes to my other work at the 117th branch of Judgment. Her name is Uiharu Kazari and she wanted to meet up with you by tomorrow as she and myself are free at the moment," Shirai would say.

"Oh... Umm..." Misaka sported a hesitant expression on her face.

One of the worse case scenarios when dealing with the fact that you are basically a public celebrity in a city of science, one of at least 7 Level 5s, and the fact that she is by far the most well-known Level 5 to the public, there was always one problem that she found to be quite the hassle to deal with.

Fans.

It's not that she hates them in particular. It's just that she wouldn't be comfortable with the fact that a lot of people would approach her every now and then because of just her status and would tend to pester her with a multitude of questions to which she had tried her best to answer in a polite manner that is befitting of an ojou-sama of Tokiwadai. And naturally, from the inside, she felt quite fed up with it due to her rather easygoing and carefree personality.

"Before you say anything, Onee-sama, I just wanted to say that I understand that you're fed up with all of the fans that would end up pestering you non-stop, however, I can definitely vouch that my friend is a well-intentioned and well-mannered person. And most importantly, she is one of the few people that I acknowledge as a friend. So leave it to me, and trust that I'll keep your stress levels as low as possible," Kuroko reassured, still concentrating on the monitor of her laptop.

Misaka would smile, saying. "Thanks for that, Kuroko. I really appreciate it."

Late at night, the highways of Academy City were practically clear for any random vehicle to simply pass by without any sign of disturbance.

From District 7 all the way to District 10, the vans and delivery trucks would stop at an alleyway where a few delinquents were waiting. Among these delinquents, there appeared to be a man with spiky black hair and sports a small beard on his chin, wearing a leather jacket, sporting an expression that he was expecting something, with arms crossed.

At that moment, there appeared to be a couple of men wearing uniforms resembling that of beekeepers, armed with advanced rifles. And some of them were seen carrying what appeared to be large crates that they would place on each side of the warehouse that was located nearby. One of the crates would be placed near the man with spiky hair in order for him to be shown just what was in those crates. After the two beekeepers would open the crate, the man with spiky hair could only smile accordingly.

"(Whistle). Well I'll be damned," the man would mutter in awe.

Dies irae - Animation OST: Burlesque

Sakugawa Middle School.

The school itself looks like a typical Japanese middle school, featuring a four-storeyed main building, connected to another building with an elevated hallway and likely has an accessible roof. The school also has a large clock on the outside, located at the center.

And somewhere among the crowd of students in the broad daylight, there was a young girl who sports short black hair and has golden-brown eyes. She has thick eyebrows but her most striking feature is her headband made out of artificial flowers. She was wearing the summer uniform of Sakugawa Middle School which was a sailor fuku of white and blue colors, accompanied by a red tie.

Kazari Uiharu.

And as of the current moment, she was viewing something from her palmtop computer, humming a certain tune, while waiting for her best friend after their classes would end. When suddenly...

"U~i~ha~ru!" a female voice would announce her presence suddenly.

"Eh?" Uiharu floundered for a second, wondering why was she feeling a draft near her underwear. Wait, draft! Immediately realizing what had happened, she made a strangled sound as her face turned crimson red even as the perpetrator grinned at seeing what the errant girl was wearing today.

"Oh, so today is light polkadots?" the perpetrator commented blandly.

"UWAH!" Uiharu cried out in embarrassment while the other students who saw it were more or less sporting awkward expressions, especially on the part of the male students. "What on earth are you doing, Saten-san?!" she wailed as she flapped her arms agitatedly, noting the flustered looks on the passerby's faces in shame.

Ruiko Saten.

A young girl with blue eyes and long black hair with a small, white flower on the left side of her hair. She also wears the summer uniform of Sakugawa Middle School, with a much preferable medium-length skirt.

"There you go, treating your classmates so formally as usual," Saten teased with a wide grin. "So...," her grin went wider if possible. "Once more, to deepen our friendship then!"

"UWYAHHH!," Uiharu would scream out of embarrassment.

"Did you see that?" one male student asked as he passed by.

"Yeah...Light pink polkadots..." another male student would mutter, with light blushes on his cheeks being visible.

Sometime later, Uiharu gave a sigh of defeat as she finally took a seat on a bench near their school, one that was somewhere nearby a lamppost that has the signs of "Happy Anniversary" attached to both rungs. There would be a few buildings and trees. Having earned a reprieve from Saten's skirt flipping, she was now firmly keeping her legs away from said offender.

"You're so cruel..." she whimpered in exasperation.

"Sorry, I got carried away," Saten raised her hand to her air, brushing it, sporting an apologetic expression. "Want to see my panties in exchange?" she lifted the edges of her skirt slightly.

"No thanks," Uiharu swiftly denied. "Geez, Saten-san..."

Saten would let go of her skirt, finally deciding to change the subject as she placed both of her arms on her waist thoughtfully. "So how was it?"

"What do you mean?" Uiharu looked confused at the sudden change of topic.

"The System Scan, of course," Saten elaborated.

"Ah...that," Uiharu sported a look of epiphany, looking down with a slightly disappointed expression. "It was no good. I'm a Level 1 just as always. I've stayed the same since elementary school. My teacher would ask me, 'Are those flowers in your head just for show? Use their full-bloom power and make your level bloom!' or something like that."

"Erm...There's too many openings to poke fun at, but for the time being, cheer up," Saten replied in encouragement as she took a seat right beside Uiharu.

"Uhm?" Uiharu looked towards Saten.

"Anyway, Level 1 is still fine," Saten pointed out, eventually making a zero sign with her fingers, with the tips of her thumb and forefinger touching together. "I'm a Level 0. No powers."

"Oh..." Uiharu seem to deflate, feeling slightly ashamed that she had forgotten that her friend was having it worse than her.

Upon seeing this, Saten was quick to add more words in order to cheer her friend up. "But don't worry about that sort of thing. As long as every day is fun," she leaned forward, with the tips of her thumb and forefinger still touching together to form a zero sign, meeting Uiharu's eyes cheerfully with a wink. "I'm okay with it."

Uiharu gave a smile of relief. "Saten-san..."

"Here, listen to this to cheer up," Saten suddenly pressed an earpiece to Uiharu's right ear.

Uiharu perked up at the familiar music and beat. "Hitotsui Hajime! Isn't this..."

"I got the early download release," Saten explained. "The album with this track is on sale today."

"You're going to buy the CD even though you downloaded it?" Uiharu asked, sporting a curious expression due to the fact that such actions might feel quite redundant.

"I'm going to get the premium merchandise that only 100 people can win with a first-edition proof of purchase! That's what a true fan does!," Saten explained, standing up from her seat. "That being the case, let's go buy it!"

"Ah," Uiharu sported an apologetic expression, cutting Saten off from her excited tone. "But I have arrangements with Shirai-san today."

Saten blinked, turning to look at her friend curiously. "By Shirai-san, do you mean that Shirai Kuroko from Judgment?"

"My dreams were granted and I'm going to meet Misaka-san starting today! One of the seven Level 5's in Academy City. Tokiwadai's Ace! Misaka Mikoto-san!," Uiharu proclaimed, her eyes shining with adoration and excitement, to the point where Saten swore that she was seeing glittering stars around the former's face.

At that point, Saten's face fell slightly, displaying a slightly uncomfortable expression. "Tokiwadai's Level 5?" her face wrinkled in distaste. "I bet that she's one of those people who act better than everyone else because of their abilities."

"Of course not..." Uiharu retorted, sporting an expression of denial.

"Those sorts of people belittle those below themselves, right?" Saten lifted one of her eyebrows sardonically. "It pisses me off. And on top of that, an ojou-sama from Tokiwadai?"

"Isn't it wonderful that she's an ojou-sama?" Uiharu gushed, with Saten looking at her again, once again swearing that she was seeing glittering stars around the former's face. "No rather, it's wonderful because she's an ojou-sama!"

"Are you sure that you're not just attracted to celebrity types?" Saten asked dryly.

"Th-That's not true!" Uiharu denied, her dreamy expression vanishing, replaced with an indignant look that was turned towards Saten. "And by the way, the fact that I'm from West-Kasai has nothing to do with this!"

Saten gave Uiharu a disbelieving stare. That denial was a bit too specific, wasn't it?

"Hey, why don't you come along with me?," Uiharu suggested, taking immediate action upon noticing her mistake.

"Eh? I don't really..." Saten would try to begin but was cut off by Uiharu who leaped to her feet, grabbed her arm, and began dragging her away with the ferocity of a hungry cat.

"It's fine, it's fine!" Uiharu reassured.

"It's fine? Wait a second!" Saten would say as she gets dragged by her best friend.

"You don't get this kind of chance often!" Uiharu reassured.

"Wait a minute, Uiharu!" Saten tried to object, but due to the iron grip that was impossible to shake, she would eventually relent and sighed.

When Kazari Uiharu was in the mood, not even a tank could stop her.

A Certain High School.

The school is located on a hill, and one needs to climb an inclination and a number of steps to reach its main entrance. It is assumed there is also an alternate way into the grounds, as staff members can park their vehicles inside the school grounds. The establishment looks like a typical Japanese-style school building. The school has a large main building, towering several stories, and with several other buildings surrounding the main one. Like any standard Japanese school, they have lockers for the students, parking space for the staff, a faculty room, a cafeteria, and an auditorium, and the roofs are apparently accessible to any student in the school. Around the school there are various areas of interest, such as open areas where students can congregate and consume their lunches; one is notable for being close to a small pond. The school also has a large field, probably used for sports-related events, as well as tennis courts. It has two buildings, with the front being the new one, and at the back the old one. It is also very ordinary for a school in Academy City, having a flat campus and front and back buildings. There's also a semicircle-roofed sports hall on the left, and a swimming pool on the right.

"Ah! Thank you so very much, Kamijou-chan!"

The one who spoke to Touma Kamijou was none other than Komoe Tsukuyomi. Although looking like a twelve-year-old child, she is one of the oldest adults that he knows, somewhere beyond the 20-year mark as far as he could recall due to considering the latter as his guardian in a way when the Doctor is usually absent. After all, the Doctor wouldn't always be around him 24/7. He has more than enough problems as it is out there in the wider multiverse. Beyond both Komoe's childish appearance and her demeanor lies a very competent teacher who cares for her students which was quite the admirable trait to be found within this city of science as many of it's adults would seemingly only care for the variables and practicality instead of the people that they were trying to develop.

As of this moment, Kamijou was putting a stack of papers, all checked and graded, on the desk in perfect order. "It's not a big deal, sensei. I just had the free time on my hands."

"Kamijou-chan," Komoe smiled, with both hands placed on her waist. "You did quite well on your System Scan despite reasons to the contrary desu~."

"Well I had a great teacher over the years," Kamijou smiled knowingly in turn.

"Ah, that explains a lot desu~" Komoe said happily, also smiling knowingly and accepting the hidden praise that her student had given her. "I guess that means that you wouldn't need to attend supplementary classes for the time being seeing as how much you've improved lately. Continue to do your best, Kamijou-chan!"

"Of course, sensei, you can count on it," Kamijou nodded, speaking the honest truth from the bottom of his heart, really grateful for everything that his sensei had done for him, not just now but over the years of his stay in Academy City.

And then, he would walk a few paces towards the locker room, opening it to get his outdoor shoes and put back his indoor shoes.

After exiting the premises of the school, he would eventually take a green colored cube, throw it to the pavement, and would automatically transform into an advance rectangular hoverboard. He would step unto the green platform. Then suddenly, there would materialize the following: safety goggles worn over the eyes, a helmet worn over the head, and a pair of gloves worn by the hands.

Back In Time · Huey Lewis & The News

And then...

Kamijou would begin to drive his hoverboard, with a soundtrack playing in the beginning of the ride as he begins to descend the hill through a certain road that would lead him to the streets.

"Tell me, doctor, where are we going this time. Is this the 50's, or 1999. All I wanted to do, was play my guitar and sing. So take me away, I don't mind. But you better promise me, I'll be back in time. Gotta get back in time. Don't bet your future, on one roll of the dice. Better remember, lightning never strikes twice. Please don't drive at eighty eight, don't want to be late again. So take me away, I don't mind. But you better promise me, I'll be back in time. Gotta get back in time. Gotta get back in time. Get me back in time. Gotta get back in time. Gotta get back in time. Get back, get back. Get back Marty. Gotta get back in time. Gotta get back in time. Get back, get back."

Even after all this time, Kamijou just couldn't get enough of riding his hoverboard across the streets of Academy City as the breeze would cool down his face, swerving and timing his movements to precise and good effect. He would see from the corner of his eye, the usual trademark wind turbines that would produce energy and be used to generate the electrical power of the city. He swerves through the crowd of bystanders who couldn't help but be amazed at the hoverboard that Kamijou was currently driving. He would focus on the many buildings and establishments that he passed by, the many schools and their students and staff that he would see from his viewpoint.

As Kamijou would drive through many sidewalks and open roads, he manages to initiate a full stop towards the front of a certain restaurant that was one of his known destinations for the past few years.

Joseph's Coffee and Restaurant. One of its branches that is in the city.

Kamijou smiles, saying. "Welp, I'm here."

He begins to tap the surface of the hoverboard with his foot which would automatically switch the latter back into a green-colored cube which he catches with his right hand, throwing it away and catching it again. And he would eventually head inside the establishment, entering the front door, and was about to walk toward the left when he spotted someone very familiar.

It was Mikoto Misaka, the same young middle school girl from Tokiwadai that he had met a few nights back as far as he could recall. Then there was the fact that there were at least three individuals who were sitting alongside her. He recognizes Kuroko Shirai, Kazari Uiharu, and Ruiko Saten from the official files that the Tokiwadai Dorm Supervisor had once shown to him, and many of which would refer to the files of every student that was connected to the various schools of District 7. And all of these girls, including Misaka, were simply staring at him in awe as they had just witnessed him drive an advanced hoverboard that had managed to be turned into a cube that he could fit within his pockets.

"I-It's you!" Misaka pointed at the spiky-haired boy in shock.

"Eh?" Shirai, sitting beside Uiharu, sported a shocked expression. "O-Onee-sama! Do you know this person?!"

"I..." Misaka sported a hesitant expression. "I...suppose so in a way."

Kamijou could only smile, eventually muttering to himself of iconic line. "There's never a dull moment in this city, is there?"
