The inspiration for this came to me at the beach today. I was alone, looking at the little creatures that live by the water (I wanted some shells, but all the good ones were inhabited), when I saw this red rose just laying in the sand. It seemed out of place, and random, so I thought to myself- I could work this into a royai fic. No, I don't see the logic, either, but that's what happened. So here is the result, and I hope you like it!

Disclaimer: I still don't own FMA (shocking, I know), it belongs to Arakawa-sensei.

Riza looked out over the water and sighed. This latest mission had brought Roy all the way out here, to the edge of the continent, and her as well, to protect him. Roy's duties fulfilled, it was time to catch a long train ride back to Central, but the Colonel had insisted that they stay one more day to unwind. He was further up the shore now and just out of Riza's view, probably talking to one of the scantily clad, wafer thin girls that frequented this beach. Riza adjusted the sheer wrap she had tied around her waist as a swimsuit cover, and took the clip out of her hair, letting it move gently with the wind. She had grown accustomed to having at least Black Hayate around, and though the view was beautiful, she was beginning to feel a little lonely. A single red rose washed up on the sand near her feet, and she stooped to pick it up. She held the flower, wondering what such an unexpected item was doing in the ocean.

"Where did you get that?" Roy asked, a touch of concern in his voice. Riza turned around; she hadn't realized he was there.

"It just washed up," she replied. "Why?"

Without answering, Roy took her by the hand. "Come with me; I want to show you something," he said, dragging her after him before she had a chance to protest.

Riza dropped the rose back into the water and stared in shock at what Roy had wanted her to see. The words Riza, I love you were scrawled into the sand in big letters. There was so much she wanted to say; that she had been waiting for this, that she'd never thought it could happen, that she loved him, too. But she found herself unable to speak. She threw her arms around Roy with almost enough force to knock him over, but not quite, and kissed him in a way he will remember forever, telling him everything she couldn't find the words to say.

So did you like it? The proper way to answer that question is with a review!
