Safe with Me
Ashlyn snuck onboard the ship and entered the cargo hold to find numerous items, but she only cared about one. When she spotted him, the sight was a big shock to her system, Daly was lying on his side in a cage with cuffs on his wrists and bruises covering almost every inch of visible skin.
"Daly!" Ashlyn exclaimed softly as she ran up to him and dragged him as gently as she could out of the cage before taking off his restraints. Ashlyn could not reach him through their bond and could not wake him up, so she decided to try and carry him as best she could out of the ship and towards her Starfighter.
"R2, activate the Hyperspace ring and set the coordinates for Naboo," Ashlyn ordered and the droid followed every detail of the order as she placed Daly between herself and the controls, "You will also have to pilot the fighter R2."
When R2 got them into Hyperspace, Ashlyn went into meditation as best she could while trying to use the Force to stabilise Daly which didn't seem to be working until something happened.
"Ash," Daly groaned hoarsely as he turned his head to the side.
"Yes Daly, it's me. You're safe," Ashlyn reassured him desperately but then realised that Daly was still unconscious, but she came to the conclusion that it must have been a reaction to her presence reaching his unconsciousness. However, it bought her hope that Daly would be okay as long as she got him to a medical facility as soon as possible. Naboo was only a few parsecs away and with the added security of it being her homeworld, she felt reassurance that even if she had been expelled from the Jedi Order they would not turn them away. Ashlyn relaxed as she allowed herself to become surrounded by the feeling of being back together with the man the Force had insisted she would be with for the remainder of her life. Despite the necessity for Jedi not to build attachments, Ashlyn felt strongly for the first time that without Daly the prophecy Master Yoda witnessed would never come to fruition. In a few short moments, the Jedi Starfighter was carrying them through Hyperspace.
Boba and Bossk returned to Slave One and boarded the ship to leave for Dromuund Kaas straight away as they had been spotted by someone who clearly wanted to collect the bounty the Republic had on Boba Fett's head.
"Go check on our bounty Bossk while I get the ship started," Boba ordered as he started the take-off sequence. However, a few moments later Bossk returned in a furious rage yelling about how the prisoner had escaped.
"What do you mean he's gone?" Boba demanded as he ran to the cargo bay to find the door to the cage wide open
The trip to Naboo only took a few hours and Ashlyn requested to land giving the spaceport controllers her Jedi clearance number which they gratefully accepted without question.
"I require urgent medical assistance for a fellow Jedi, he is severely injured and requires immediate attention," Ashlyn mentioned to the Operator.
"Message received, the medical centre in Theed city has been notified and a team will meet you at the emergency landing platform," he responded back.
As promised, Ashlyn was met by a medical team and Daly was whisked away with her close behind. Upon entering the medical centre, they took Daly into a room and then the door closed behind them, leaving Ashlyn stuck outside the door with a medical droid who started asking questions to collect Daly's medical history of which she answered as best she could. Then the doors opened and most of the medical team exited and the Jedi Padawan entered to find Daly floating unconscious inside a bacta tank. The body sensors were strapped around his waist and a breathing apparatus was strapped to his face.
"He should be fine after a few hours in the bacta tank," the medic said, "What happened to him?" she asked.
"He got captured by some Bounty Hunters, not sure exactly what they did to him to cause this many injuries," Ashlyn replied with a level of uncertainty in her voice.
"Very well, excuse me I will be back soon to check up on him," she said, leaving Ashlyn alone with the two medical droids.
Ashlyn placed her hand on the thick glass of the tank as she closed her eyes and sent calming waves through the Force to Daly, "Please get better soon," she begged quietly. Ashlyn started to feel the desperate need to hear Daly's voice again and she hadn't realised until now just how much she missed it. Finally, she was able to relax with the knowledge that Daly was going to be okay and she pulled a chair over to the bacta tank so she could sit next to him. After a few minutes of watching the thick bacta fluid in the dimly lit room as the healing solution reflected what little light there was against the walls, Ashlyn dozed off slightly into a light sleep from exhaustion.
Later that day, the medic had returned to the room to check up on the patient's progress and found the young girl dozing lightly in one of the chairs. The doctor could tell that the girl was exhausted and clearly hadn't been sleeping much for a while, so she decided not to disturb her unless necessary. Upon looking over the data that the sensors were picking up she determined that Daly was ready to come out of the bacta tank. Only at that point did she place a gentle hand on the young girl's shoulder to rouse her from sleep which had an immediate effect. It took Ashlyn a few moments to register where she was and what was going on around her but as soon as she did he eyes went wide, "Is he okay?" she asked in a worried tone.
"Your friend is doing just fine, in fact, he is ready to come out of the bacta tank. However, the anti-sedative might take a few hours to take effect due to the fact that he was already unconscious when we gave him the sedative," the medic replied, "So don't be worried if doesn't awake immediately. In fact, I would recommend you use that time to get more rest. You look like you haven't slept for a while."
"Not since the Bounty Hunters took him, I haven't been able to sleep at all for a little over a week," Ashlyn admitted.
"Unfortunately you will have to leave the room while we get him out of the bacta tank but you will be allowed back in as soon as we are done," the medic revealed.
"Oh yes, of course," Ashlyn said as she got up from the chair and left the room after which a team of droids and medics entered after she exited. As the door closed behind the team she heard the medic give a simple direction to the team, "Inject the anti-sedative," the medic directed to the medical droid who did as she asked. As expected there were no signs of the patient waking up which meant he had to be taken out of the tank. After a few minutes, Daly was out of the tank and on a stretcher ready to be moved to another room. The droids changed him into a white medical gown after the remnants of the bacta fluid was removed from his body. They moved him to the new room through an internal door so that the draft from the hallway wouldn't cause any issues. The medical team exited the new room and Ashlyn entered the room to find Daly asleep in the medical bed after receiving an update of his condition from the medic. She sat down in the chair next to his bedside and took one of his hands in her hand which felt smoother than usual.
"Must be an effect of the bacta," she mumbled to herself softly, "Come on Daly, wake up soon please?" she asked desperately to which she got no response.
Two slow days passed of Ashlyn sitting next to Daly's bedside, waiting for him to wake up with no explanation from the medics why he was not waking up. According to the medics, a few hours was relatively normal for patients who were already unconscious but two days was abnormal. The only thing they could do was reassure her that his injuries were healing and that he was improving. Ashlyn sighed as the medic exited the room and she retook Daly's hand in her own. She rested her bed on the bed next to him and slowly drifted off to sleep to the feeling of his steady and even breaths.
A/N: I rewrote this chapter a little bit and added more content as I wasn't entirely happy with the way it was before. Hope you all are enjoying the series so far and don't forget to review.
