Chapter 1
The fire was now just a glowing pile of burnt wood and ash as Aang and Sokka slept silently near the warm glow. Neither Toph nor Katara could sleep for some reason. Toph sighed and turned over, thoughts running wildy through her head. She turned over again and then a couple of seconds later stood up and walked over to the edge of the cliff and sat down hanging her feet over the edge. Katara sat up and looked over where Toph was sitting. Noticing something was bothering Toph she stood up and walked over to where she was sitting and sat down next to her. "What's wrong," Katara asked in a caring manner. Toph was silent for a second before she asked, "Do you guys really like me?" not lifting her head still gazing down. "Of course we do," Katara replied. "Why do you ask?" Katara wondered aloud. "Because me and you are always arguing and Aang is mad at me and Sokka always ignores me," she replied. "I just..." she continued her voice wavering. "I just want you guys to like me. You guys are all that I have now." she said tears filling her eyes. Tears started streaming down her face as she turned her head in Katara's direction. "Why do we have to argue all the time?" Toph asked tears slowly falling down her face. Katara put her arm around Toph and hugged her. "For what it's worth," Katara said. "I really do like you," she said still hugging her. Toph looked up into Katara's face as she slowly let go and looked into Toph's eyes. "You're eyes are beautiful," Katara whispered, placing a gentle hand on Toph's soft cheek. Toph closed her eyes and put her hand over Katara's soft hand that was on her cheek. Katara inched closer and closer until they were almost face to face. Katara whispered even quieter than before, "You're beautiful." They're lips met as the two embraced one another never letting go. Every star in the sky seemed to scream with joy as the two held each other with love's embrace. Every trouble, every worry, every care just seemed to melt away. Time stood still as if nothing but Katara and Toph and thier love were the only things that existed. Fantasy became reality as reality became fantasy. Finally it ended. The two sat together forehead to forehead. Katara stared into Toph's eyes with her hand still on her cheek as she sat there without a care in the world. More tears streamed down Toph's face as she smiled in joy. "I love you," Toph said through her tears of joy. "I love you so much."
This, my friend, is love. It is as love should be; caring, pure, and without a care in the world. This is the kind of love that will last a lifetime and beyond. Nothing will ever break their love. Nothing.
