CHAPTER 17:
...
...
HE jerked off all his thoughts and let out a slow controlled breath which attempted to loosen his body movements...HE was walking like a clockwork soldier and that was no way to be in this vicinity...giving HIS shoulders a wiggle and lolling the head in a circle.. and at the same time letting HIS stride slacken to a more casual pace...
it was a decent effort...enough to fool the casual observer...but for the onlooker with a keen eye HE was a walking advert for tension...His eyes were moving with a alertness that comes from heavy stress and hands remained clenched by subconscious demand...
...
HE entered into the hospital ingress hastily...while panting at the same time with sweat beads covering the fore head...the staffs and doctors sensing the state of anxiety of THE PRAMOD SRIVASTAV immediately indoctrinated HIM toward his son's ward...
as he entered into the magnolia colored hospital room with navy blue borders...and his eyes caught a glance of a lying figure with many bruises...BUT regular breaths matching to the beeping machines...showing the existence of life...HE let out a relaxing sigh...
the whole CID team stood up precipitously sensing someone's presence near the cabin door...and remained agitated at their places...BUT soon came out from their speculation and gave a firm salute to THE FIGURE...
...
A.D:(gave a friendly yet formal nod to the team...while at the same time ordering the guards and other staffs accompanying HIM...)aap log bahar rukiye...jarurat hogi to mein bula lunga...
(as everyone left the room...the formal shade totally disappeared from his face...and now queried in a very frazzled tone...)PRADYUMAN...ABHIJEET aab kaisa hai...koi ghabrane wali baat to nahi hai na...
ACP:(assuring...)sir aap shant ho jaeye...abhi filhal woh khatre se bahar hai...kuch ghanton mein hosh ajaega...
AD:(completely relaxed listening the gospel...but now asked in a confused yet eager tone...)lekin yeh sab hua kese...aur tum logon ko woh mila kahan...
(ACP narrated AD every minute detail of the incident...and the moment his elucidation terminated...his ears heard an angry yet concerned flare-up from a father who was fade up from HIS SON'S attitude...)
A.D:(angry but concern reflecting easily from the tone...)pata nahi kab sudhrega yeh ladka...har chiz mein laparwahi...kitni baar use bola hai ki apna dhyan rakha kare...lekin janab ko to sun na hi nahi hai...har ek chiz mein sirf apne maan ki hi karni hai...
(gritting his teeth...)kanhi kabhi to jee karta hai ki ek thappad lagaun to sari "herogiri" chali jaegi...idiot kahinka...
...
...
ACP felt something just walloped hard on his chest...crushing the heart into pieces...there had been a time when HE was in place of ABHIJEET'S DAD and not only the emotions but also the words were same...
today past was repeating itself with reciprocation of characters...and today he could really believe that there was something called as FATE...yeah...this 4 lettered word really had a huge meaning lurking behind it...
Fate is actually the end of your story...and though God knows all the moves you will ever make...you did make all the choices yourself...so if you are going to pray for anything, pray for one powerful enough help you make good choices...for they are the real fiaries...the real angels..
while HIS mind echoing something similar as...
...
"LETE RAHIYE PRABHU...BOHOT SUPERMAN BAN LIYE...AAB THODA APNE INSANI ROOP MEIN WAPAS AJAIYE...BADI MEHERBANI HOGI..."
"ABHIJEET...TUMHE KITNI BAAR KAHA HAI APNA DHYAN RAKHA KARO...TUM SOCH BHI NAHI SAKTE TUMHE YAHAN ISS HALAT MEIN DEKHKE HAM PE KYA BIT TI HOGI..."
"AREH...AAIYE AAIYE...AAP HI KA INTEZAR THA...BHAI SAB LOG TALI BAJAO...MAHAN SENIOR INSPECTOR ABHIJEET PHIRSE HOSPITAL SE BHAG AAYE HEIN..."
"EK THAPPAD PADEGA SARI AKAL THIKANE AA JAEGI..."
...
he was not at all jealous of their bond rather...was very happy because at least ABHIJEET got someone in his life...who really loved him selflessly without any hint of suspiciousness...without utilizing him for any stupid plan...who never failed to show his love and affection directly...who stood up like a barrier not always...but at least when he needed someone the most...
HE could not name the feelings arousing in his heart...literally it could not be called jealously or covetousness...but the fear of losing his own place in the heart of someone very special...
special for him? I mean seriously...because probably he was the same man who shot his own blood dead...for whom nothing can come between his duty towards nation...who was named as "the stone hearted ruthless ACP" for his cold and obdurated behavior not only for the criminals but also with the officers of his own department...
and spellbindingly it was one of the most trusted officer only who changed HIS perspective towards everything...and made him live his own life once again...but this time happiness and alacrity replacing detrimental and melancholy...and yet again a question hammered in his mind..."was he really only an officer"...
...
"did he not fulfill all the responsibilities of being an elder son..."
"did he not stand behind HIM like a silent strong pillar who acted as a barricade in his father figure's life from each and every storm approaching..."
"did he not act as a root who held up the entire department as a family..."
"did he not support not only HIM but every individual in the team sometimes being an elder brother or sometimes being an ever guiding mentor..."
...
yes the sharp shine covered every possible loophole of their relations...BUT could not get anything in return...he could not even get a single word of tranquility and assurance from HIS mentor during the biggest storm of his life...
to whom HE thought would be the biggest supporter from any any invade of problems and hitches...turned out to be the greatest invader in his mortal coil...while his mind again took him back to the same grisly day as...
...
...
FLASHBACK:
...
PURVI:(completely shocked...)yehhh...
DAYA:(confused hearing a shocking shrill...while fear gripping his heart hard as...)kya hua PURVI...
PURVI:(with a complete blank face...)SIRR...(flaunting out the photos with a shivery hands...and briefing in a stammering tone...)yeh...yeh sab bachhe toh... party mein the...(hesitant pause)ABH...ABHIJEET SI...SIRR ke sath...uss par..party me..mein the...
ACP:(banging his hands on the table...and expelling out all the anger as...)ABHIJEET...ABHIJEET...ABHIJEET...haar ek cheez usi ki taraf ishara kar rahi hai...(clenching the fists tightly...)har saboot har gawah...cikh cikh kar yehi bol rahi hai ki...inn saab ke piche ABHIJEET ka haath hai...
( squawking in an authorative tone...making everyone shocked from the core...)jindagi mein pehli baar lag raha hai ki galti karli...bohot badi galti karli iss ABHIJEET ko apne team mein shamil karke...
(after a few minutes of controlling anger...)PANKAJ mujhe kaal subha tak ABHIJEET ke naye number ka exact location aur call records mere table pe cahiye...
(determined tone...)kahin se bhi aur kisi bhi haal mein...bachna nahi cahiye woh hamare haathon se...(with a burning glance...)samajh gaye...
PANKAJ:(agrreing reluctantly)yess sirrr...
ACP:(turning towards others...)DAYAA...
DAYA:jee sirr...
ACP:(browbeating tone...)ticket book karo DELHI ke liye...kaal subha hi niklenge...(warning strongly...)aur haan...khabrdaar agar iss baat ki khabar ABHIJEET tak pahonchi to...bohot bura phasoge tum...abhi se bata raha hun...
DAYA:(dumbfounded...while replying back hiding his eyes as...)sirrrr...yeh kya keh rahe hein aap...mein bhala kisi ko kyun bataunga...
ACP:(with a mocking laugh...)dosti mei toh insaan jaan bhi de deta hai...aur tum dono ki dosti ka toh kya hi kehna...
DAYA(giving an unbelievable look...while again trying one more time... )sir aap please samajh ne ki koshish kijiye...jarur ABHIJEET ko koi na koi phasa raha hai...(adding strongly...)woh esa kabhi kar hi nahi sakta...aur agar kar bhi raha hai to uske piche koi na koi badi wajah jarur hogi...
ACP:(interrupting harshly...)har apradh ke piche koi na koi wajah jarur hoti hai...cahe woh acha ho ya bura...(stringently...)aur mujhe nahi lagta ki ABHIJEET yeh jo bhi kar raha hai uske piche koi acha karan ho sakta hai...
DAYA:(pleading...)lekin sir...aap ekbar...
ACP:(ignoring his words...and in a remonstrancing tone...)kal tak ka samay hai tumhare paas...agar ankhon mein se dosti ki patti utar jaye to kal subha apna bag leke DELHI jane ke liye beuro aa jana...
(and he rushed out of the beuro immediately leaving everyone in splits...maybe to release out the emotions...as it was one of the most baffling and perplexing thing which was the need of the hour for him right now...)
...
...
The living room was dimly lit with the vintage wall sconces that hung on the mute coloured walls like earrings...thick velvet curtains hid the long windows across the walls, just leaving a shy peak of the woods beyond...two antique couches stood the opposite sides of each on the hand-woven rug in front of the ashen fireplace, accompanied by rich velvet and bronze wing-chairs that stood as a sidekicks.
The paintings and faded tapestry panels on the walls seem to blink at the two figures as they entered, like they were greeting...one of them sunk in one of the couches...and HE looked as like he was melting...
because It was the first time he rested his body today...but instead of tiredness, an unnamed fear was brimming on his ever expressive eyes...when he heard the other one initiating as...
...
DHRUV:(checking out some papers in his hands...and sidewise briefing as...)SIRR...ab aur koi meetings wagera nahi hai...aur nahi koi badi deal... sirf issi wale mein thoda risk tha...jo ki aab nipat chuka hai...
ABHI:(a bit disturbed...) ha..haan theek hai...(giving the low-down as...)toh phir ab main bhi nikal ta hun MUMBAI ke liye...kahin esa na ho ki udhar kisi ko shaq ho jaye...
DHRUV:(agreeing understandingly...)theek hai sir...(suggesting...)toh main aapke tickets karva deta hu...
ABHI:(acceding...)theek hai...lekin aaj raat wali flight book karwa dena...
DHRUV:(concerned fully with a bit of hesitance...)sirr...raat ka safar agar taal dete toh achha rehta...(ABHIJEET looked at him confusingly...so explaining his perspective as...)nahi...voh mera matlab hai ki...iss meeting aur deal ke chakkar mein aap bohot jyada thak gaye honge...to agar thoda aram karke subha nikalte to acha hota...
...
a sweet smile came up dangling on ABHIJEET'S lips...he could see the kind of gentle concern his buddy used to have...in the eyes of DHRUV...
HE could feel his words calming him more by the way they were said...than the actual words...It really felt as if he was being wrapped around in a blanket of immense care and concern...which was damn shocking for him too...
because other than his buddy, he had never felt so soothing from anyone's verses...and that to not from someone...who used to meet him only once/twice a month...
...
ABHI:(making him understand smilingly...)nahi DHRUV...CID se durr rehna mere liye thik nahi hai...agar kisi bhi source se unhe inn saab ke bare mein bhanak tak lag gayi...to hum sab ke liye problem ho jaegi...aur DAD bhi unki meeting ke liye bahar hein...to mein unhe bhi kisi tarah ki tention nahi de sakta...
DHRUV:(although a bit dejected...but still agreeing as each and every word by him is cent percent true...)theek hai sir...to phir main aaj raat ki flight mein hi book karwa deta hun...
(DHRUV left the room...leaving behind a tired figure resting his body or we can say may be reconciling himself for the upcoming situation...the tiredness visible in his eyes were not due to any exhaustion or fatigue...but the same unnamed consternation which had gripped his heart tightly from the very first day of coming DELHI...)
...
...
ACP came back to the present hearing a sudden loud clamour in the silent domain...when his ears grasped some words coming out from his younger son's lips as...
DAYA:(noticing a bit fluctuation in the beeping machines...while his buddy's eyes trying to unfurl from the deep sleep...just like a small baby trying to open his eyes for the first time...leaving behind the comfort of mother's womb...)sirr...ABHII ko hosh aa raha hai...
(rushing out immediately...while notifying others as...)main abhi doctors ko bula ke lata hun...
the moment he left the room dashingly...a bright smile came up on the lips of A.D...who internally felt himself on cloud nine...as his son had really acquired the most precious relations in his life during his absence...may be they scepted him...but that was nothing as compared to the love and prudence they showered over...the remaining epoch...
