My Darling
Disclaimer: I don't own Superman. If I did, don't you think Clark would be going out with me?
A/N: This was just a small scene I imagined one night when I was going to sleep – it wouldn't leave me alone! Also, I was listening to Drops of Jupiter by Train when I was writing this, so….yeah. Many thanks to htbthomas for beta-ing. You kick ass!
Also, check out her story, Déjà Vu – it's extremely good!

The figure waited, leaning against the railing and gazing into the moonlit water of the pier. She was far down, away from the hustle and lights of the city. Metropolis was always busy, even at midnight. She glanced up at the deep blue sky, scattered with dots of white stars and the occasional puff of a cloud. Her hopeful eyes searched the skies, her head tilted back slightly. A slight breeze ruffled her brown hair and clothes. She looked back down at the moon's reflection, her eyes finding nothing of interest in the heavens above. He was late, she knew, but it had been so long that she did not mind that much. A few more minutes would not matter. She smiled as she thought of his deep blue eyes."As blue as the sea," she whispered. And his hair…she giggled. She loved to run her fingers through it, but he could not stand it!
"And what is so funny, my darling?" inquired a smooth voice from behind her.
She spun around. "Kal-El!"
He caught her in a tight embrace as she rushed to him. He breathed in her scent. She smelled of sunflowers and honeydew melon. "Oh, I've missed you," he murmured into her sweet-smelling hair.
"I've missed you too. Did…did you find…anything?"
"No," he said. "Nothing."
"Well, you could only try. I'm sorry, Kal-El. I know it must be devastating."
"Yes," he answered, swallowing hard. He stared into her eyes. "But it's alright now that I'm back with you. I wished you could have come with me."
"Yes…but it's impossible. I could never fly." She smiled, fleetingly, and glanced up at him.
"Au contraire, my darling. Did you forget so quickly?"
She smiled. He had realized what she was asking him for. She took his hand. As they soared into the night sky, she breathed in deeply. She loved when he took her flying, and it had been so long….
They flew side by side, above the clouds. The city sprawled below them, tiny dots of light in the sky. From somewhere below, sounds of an orchestra playing a waltz drifted up. They slowed to a stop as the music became louder.
"My dear, may I have this dance?"
She smiled and nodded her consent. He took her into his arms, and they began a slow dance in the sky. As they danced, the moonlight glinted off a ring on the fourth finger on her left hand. A simple silver band, engraved with a tiny single symbol, with a small "S" that matched the one on the chest of his suit.
FIN.
