Ruby Duck had been pregnant for almost nine months now, almost being full term. Her husband, Drake-El Duck, stayed home with her much more than he used to. Tonight, he paced the kitchen floor while she washed the dishes. "I just don't understand it, Ruby," Drake-El mumbled. "Calm down, Drake-El, honey. It's not time yet," Ruby reassured. "Last night you made it through nine months! You have to give birth now!" Drake-El exclaimed. "Give the little duckling time, now," Ruby whispered. Drake-El facepalmed. As he looked up, Ruby shrieked, dropped a plate, and clutched her stomach. Drake-El rushed her to the car.

At the same time, across the city, Donald McQuack walked into his manor. His wife, Lucy McQuack looked over from the couch. Lucy had been full term for two days now. "Hello, Donald," she greeted. "Everything alright?" Donald asked. "That little duckling won't stop kicking the inside of my stomach," Lucy sighed. Right as Donald plopped down beside Lucy, she looked at him.

"Luggage in the limo?"

"Yep."

"ER room reserved?"

"Yep."

"Get in the limo. This duckling is coming."

A few minutes later, Lucy was rushed into her labor room. Ruby was doing the same. But, as Ruby was already in heavy labor, she was in a hurry. She accidentally went into Lucy's room. The door locked behind her. Ruby gasped, then rattled the door. Locked.

The room was a small room, considering Lucy, a famed actress, had reserved it. Ruby and Lucy had to face the facts. They were going to have to give birth in the same room, a little too close to each other.

Drake-El nor Donald could get inside the stall. Drake-El went into full-on panic.

"I knew it! I knew it, knew it, knew it!" Drake-El exclaimed.

Donald checked the calendar on the wall in the Maternity hall. September 6th, 1971. It was already dark outside.

Suddenly, and the exact same time, they heard two voices screaming.

Drake-El had to punch the lock on the stall door to unlock it. When the two men came rushing in, the saw their ladies, who already had cut their umbilical cords, holding one duckling each. Ruby had said the ducklings came at the exact same time. Lucy's duckling had already calmed down, now sucking her thumb and clutching her mother's hand. The one thing about her was her magenta feathers around her eyes.

But Ruby's duckling wasn't that way.

Not that way.

At all.

Ruby had gotten pushed to the side, which was a darker corner of the room. Her duckling, a boy, had came out and got hit by Lucy's new little girl. After Ruby got comfortable and had cut her umbilical cord, she examined her duckling. He sat in her lap, crying. He had purple feathers that circled around his eyes and the back of his head. He had feathers that came down from his arms that were purple and looked like wings.

And he wasn't satisfied with anything.

The doctor came in and explained that his wings were poisonous and must be cut off. After that, the doctor examined him and said he had a pigment mutation.

Ruby and Lucy had been separated into different stalls. Drake-El and Ruby could hear "Hello, Adeline, hello! Welcome to the McQuack family, Adeline!" from Lucy's stall.

It about time to put the new edition to the Duck family to bed when Ruby started to converse with Drake-El.

"Drake-El?"

"Yeah, Ruby?"

"You know how the little duckling used to have those wings?"

"Yeah."

"They were purple."

"Yep."

"Dark purple."

"Yeah."

"I took dangerous risks with this duckling."

"I know."

"I'm gonna name him."

Drake-El shot Ruby a surprised look.

"What's his name?"

Ruby smiled. The duckling smiled with her.

"Darkwing Duck."
