In the Dying Light

I feel so…broken…

So lost.

The king stood silently against the background of what once was of his kingdom, now standing in ruins.

Because of her…

She has taken everything from me…

His black armor gleamed in the red, dying light of the Underground, his face twisted in pain as he gazed out across the barren desert that had once been full of so much life.

I had offered her my world,

And she destroyed it…

A single tear ran down his pale, alabaster skin, the only tear he had ever shed, and ever would.

I had offered her my heart, and she broke it…

She was the only one that he had ever truly loved, and the only one that he could never have.

How long has it been? A month? A year?

Nothing mattered anymore. Not without her. Not without his Labyrinth.

I feel so cold…

He walked amongst the broken pillars and walls that had once been his castle, his gloved fingers tracing the grooves in the stone.

How could such simple words cause so much destruction?

He had no power over her, but she had so, so much power over him.

Why does it hurt so much?

No matter what he did, the pain wouldn't go away, it would never go away.

I am nothing…

He removed the dagger from its sheath, its silver blade reflecting the red sun's light, staining it crimson.

I knew who I was once…

The metal bit into his skin as he pulled the blade across the white skin of his wrists, watching the blood well up from the wound and ooze down to his gloves, disappearing underneath the black leather.

I am dead without you…

He slid the blade over his skin again and again, the blood dripping to the ground and pooling at his feet.

I feel so empty…

The cracked earth eagerly absorbed his blood, like an animal that had been starved for months.

Why?

He dropped to his knees, his wrists bleeding freely. The dagger slipped from his grasp, and he looked up at red sun, once so bright but now nothing but a faint glimmer of what it once was. He felt dizzy and light headed, with every second that passed reality became dimmer and dimmer.

My Sarah…

His body crumpled to the ground, barely distinguishable amongst the rubble that surrounded him. No on e would ever know what became of him, no one would even remember…not even his sarah. With dry, cracked lips, he whispered, "I can't live without you…"

His mismatched eyes flickered once then closed for eternity.

Such a pity.
