Simulation of District 12
It was a simulation. All the victors had to go into a simulator to try to survive a year in district 12. Katniss, being one from the district, knew exactly what to do.
The victors huddled together around the screen, watching the 74th hunger games intently. It had come to the finals, and only Peeta, Cato and Katniss were still alive. They were all rushing towards the cornucopia, racing to get there first and to outrun the mutts chasing them.
Peeta boosted Katniss up, and once she had gotten to the top, she turned around and laid down on the floor, sticking out her hand for Peeta to grab. However, when nothing grabbed her hand, she squinted in the dark, looking better. What she saw though, was not what she had bargained for. A mutt had Peeta in its mouth, moving its jaws up and down, effectively chewing on him. Upon seeing this, she screamed loud, piercing everyone's ears.
Hysterically, she shot the mutt down, pulling Peeta up with all her strength. "Peeta," she whispered, distraught. He replied, "You can win this. Just…beat Cato, come on." With that, a canon went off, and Katniss screamed louder than before, outraged about the fact that Peeta's last words had been encouragement for her when he had been dying.
It was enough though, before she knew what she was even doing, she leapt to her feet, intending to do Cato harm. She carefully dodged his attempt at striking yet another kill, being the only one able to do so. "How did you dodge that!? You need superfast reflexes in order to do that!" She shrugged then, secretly enraged he seemed so bothered by the fact that she could dodge his attacks.
Before he could blink or even breathe again, she struck out with a knife she had taken from Peeta's lifeless body. This injured him severely, putting a cut on his throat, though not deep enough to kill him. He snarled then, attacking her with a barrage of punches in different directions, all of which she dodged easily. "That all you got? You've been trained practically your whole life for this, but what purpose is there of winning for you? Simply to get glory and fame? I have another motive, and I have the will to win the games, so I'll win. And you won't." With that, she struck him again with Peeta's knife, dipping it into his blood after he had fallen. She then threw the knife into the bushes, somehow managing to kill a squirrel a kilometre away, surprising everyone, but not herself.
The canon went off, alerting the victors of her win. Her survival. "I announce Katniss Everdeen – tribute of district 12 – the victor of the 74th hunger games."
All the victors got up from their seats, ready to greet Katniss. When they got there however, Katniss was having a fit. In the hover craft, Katniss was thrashing and attacking all the guards and nurses. She was doing a pretty good job too, for no one could seem to sedate her. She either side stepped them or knocked the syringe out of their hands whenever they tried, proving her to be as agile and fast as they thought she was.
For minutes, she fended off everyone before she finally had enough, "Can you please stop coming near me!?" The peacekeepers and nurses shook their heads, still pursuing her, so she growled in response, her anger making her accidentally kill one of the peacekeepers instead of knocking him out.
She gasped, horrified at what she had done. "Oops!" From then on, she stopped fighting, not wanting to kill anyone else. The victors, who had been observing the situation for a while now, finally walked into her room, not surprising Katniss at all, "Finally, you came in. Now, what do you want? You've been standing there for ages." The victors shared a surprised glance before Johanna replied to her question, "We came to greet you, and you also have to meet the victors, so here we are." "I'm Cashmere, this is Gloss," Cashmere said, indicating the victor standing next to her. The other victors all introduced themselves in turn, ending with Finnick.
"Wait, The Finnick Odair!?" He smirked, nodding. "Oh, well, hi. I don't understand why so many people like you." Now that surprised them, Finnick, frowning, tried a number of tactics to make anyone fall for him, but they were all lost on Katniss, who tried multiple times to get them out, "Honestly, can you please leave!? I don't need you trying to get me to like you." With that, she walked away, sighing, "Are you going or not!?" The victors turned away, walking out the door and into the mentoring room.
Finnick, still disturbed about the fact Katniss seemed immune to his charm, he asked Haymitch, "How is she immune to my wonderful charm!?" Haymitch rolled his eyes, "Pretty boy, Katniss never had time for boys. The only time she ever thought about them was with Peeta, and never before. She didn't actually love Peeta, but she was never even aware of the effect she had on them. She doesn't need you or any other boy trying to seduce her." Johanna looked at Haymitch weirdly, "What effect? She didn't seem to have any sort of effect on anyone, in fact, she seemed to be a little obnoxious, with her rudeness and everything." Haymitch eyes Johanna challengingly, "You're one to talk."
Johanna just scoffed, "Well, what effect? I don't see anything!" Haymitch rolled his eyes as if it was obvious, "That's because she doesn't like you, or at least doesn't trust you." Finnick tilted his head, still confused, "What do you mean?" Haymitch scoffed this time, "If you still don't understand, there's something wrong with you," Haymitch looked at all the other victors, seeing only a few of their expressions one of understanding, including only Seeder, Chaff and Mags. When Haymitch looked back to the others, their faces were yet again full of confusion, so he sighed loudly, "Well, the girl is tight. Doesn't trust many people because of her past, and don't think for one minute that her past isn't as painful as yours, because it isn't true." At their demanding faces, he said, "Look, I don't know the whole story, but I know it was bad. Bad enough for her to have trust issues, and bad enough for her to put walls up. Anyways, so if she trusts you, she'll confide in you, but she doesn't trust easily, but she can sense it when someone is intending something bad."
End Of Chapter
Hi guys! Thank you for reading my new story. :) I'm thinking that I might make this have...five parts? I'm warning you, this topic doesn't really have much. So I might have a bit of trouble writing this later on. I might make it brief, or maybe long with lots of additional information. All I know is that it'll have some weird parts that might not be super realistic. Just warning you. :)
