Chapter 4: Saving Our Enemy, Albeit Unknowingly (Marinette's POV)
"Really?" Marinette asks again.
Pidge and her brother, Matt, nod. "Yeah it seems like they are attacking an empty point in space. We couldn't figure out who they are planning to attack but it seems rather odd."
"Yes. Which is why I can't quite fully comprehend it myself."
"Should we tell the others and get their input on the matter?" Pidge asks.
"Yes, I believe that would be wise. Considering we know nothing about this Galra attack. Better we all agree than I make a foolish decision that leads us into a trap."
"You really think it could be a trap?"
"Yes, considering our past experiences. Like when the comet disappeared and we had to fight a lone Galra ship or the time when we got stuck on a planet full of red gas that made our lion's systems stop working until we found a bound with each of them."
Mat looks at us and then follows Pidge out of the room.
Marinette sighs, why would the Galra be attacking a random point in space? Unless it's one of their hidden bases, since Mat doesn't seem to think it could be a rebel base. But why would the Galra attack one of their own? Nothing about this War makes sense. Then again her fighting against Hawkmoth doesn't make sense either.
She just wishes there was a way to end this conflict peacefully and swiftly. However nothing seems to indicate a way to do so. But must the answer always result in violence? At least with the akumas she could repair the damage from the fight, and people could go back to their normal routine.
But this isn't Hawkmoth they're dealing with, instead it's an evil Warlord who is out to conquer every planet in the universe.
Reluctantly, she leaves her room, where massive amounts of fabric lay, waiting to be sewn into something new. She was hoping to have a bit of peace and quiet after the meeting, but so much for her luck.
Tikki floats by her side, "Marinette isn't it great to have another mission. As each one brings you and Voltron closer to defeating the Galra Empire!"
Marinette looks at her kwami pointedly, "Yes. But I was hoping to have some downtime and create more outfits. Shiro needs a wardrobe, as he can't just wear an outfit that's similar to the one he used to have before he disappeared. And since these meetings with members of the Coalition keep happening I need to make different suits and dress…."
"Marinette, none of that is as important as freeing planets." Tikki firmly says.
"I agree, however we need to keep hope. And besides I don't think Shiro likes wearing the same clothes everyday. I know me, Allura and Lance don't."
Tikki just sighs, and lets the subject drop.
Which is great timing as they arrive on the bridge to hear the tail end of a conversation, "we should absolutely help whoever the Galra are attacking!" yells Allura.
Lance nods, she notices that Allura is wearing the pink jacket with a blue shirt that has the Blue Lion on it(just the face) and darker blue jeans, while Lance is wearing a red sweater and blue jeans.
She suppresses a smile, she knows Blue is more Lance's colour, but she did sneak in some red themed things to match his current lion, but it warms her heart to see those two wearing the clothes she made.
Shiro on the other hand sighs, "We don't even know who the Galra are attacking it could be a trap."
"Well if it is we can use my Green Lion's cloaking ability that I installed onto it. That way we can see if it is a trap or if we need to rescue anyone."
Matt looks at his little sister, beaming. "You installed cloaking on the Green Lion? I'm impressed Kaite."
Pidge just smiles back to her brother.
"One thing, I'm going with you guys."
"Marinette you don't have to…"
"I want to."
After that's settled the three of them go to get ready for their covert mission. The Castle will be watching from far away so if they do decide to help then they can actually help and it's not just the Green Lion. As who knows how many fleets the Galra are bringing.
As they don't know why they are attacking the place that the coordinates will lead them to.
She just hopes this will help. As it seems that this war is far from over even though Voltron…Stop. This war will be over, sooner or later, it will be.
All she has to do is remain positive.
"So is your lion the coolest little sis?" Matt asks, breaking the silence.
Marinette replies, "I think all the lions are cool as they all have their own unique things about them. And they all combine to make the coolest mech ever in the Universe as the mech inspires hope to all who see or hear of it."
"True, true. But Pidge's lion has cloaking."
Pidge smiles, "Yes, but I agree with Marinette. Each one of our lions has their own unique thing about them and when you combine them they make Voltron the most powerful weapon in the Galaxy."
"Who do you think the Galra are attacking?"
"It could be one of the Blades hideouts. You know how secretive they are."
Marinette nods, she remembers when she first met Kolivan. He had been so mysterious only giving vague answers and then telling her to go with Shiro and that he was happy to have an alliance with Voltron. She shudders remembering her first impression of him after he mentioned Keith's name.
Oh god, it had been a relief to know that that impression was wrong. If it was right….No, she doesn't want to even think about that.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine, Pidge."
With that silence returns again. Still Pidge had a point, the Blades are very secretive. So it wouldn't make sense for one for their bases to get attacked, knowing the kind of precautions they take. As the first she had ever been to was inside the middle of two black holes.
Trying to understand that logic almost made her brain melt, until she just accepted it. If kwamis can exist, why can't a secret base in the middle of two black holes exist?
Soon they arrive at the spot. A massive base is embedded into a solid meteorite. It is mainly purple and has a big window at the front of the base and smaller windows. Somehow her mind thinks this is where the comet might be.
As a base embedded into a meteorite would shift daily, making it near impossible to trace without some sort of help.
They only gleaned the information of where the meteorite is because of happenstancing upon a Galra conversation that Matt and Pidge were able to translate. There are thousands of fleets firing at the base with their laser guns. There are parts of the base that seem to have smoke emitting from them, meaning the ships have done some damage.
"So? Do we go in and try to evacuate the people on board, or do we stop the Galra from firing?" Matt asks, serious.
"We stop those ships from firing, and then see if we can try and evacuate anyone on board that Base. As if the ships are firing at us while we're trying to evacuate, that would just cause problems and would probably amount to nothing as if that base takes on any more hits, it's likely to explode."
Matt nods, "Good idea Marinette. I guess that settles it. Can the Green Lion go into battle mode while it's cloaking is activated?"
Pidge smiles, and her eyes sparkle, "Of course. If I didn't allow for that, then the cloaking would only be useful to do stealth and not sneak attacks."
"I like the way you think little sis!"
"Though there is the question of how long we can stay cloaked. However time is wasting so while we're attacking those ships, Pidge you try and gauge when the Green Lion will decloak so that we can try and make it look like Voltron wasn't involved."
"Sure thing Marinette!"
And with that we start attacking the Galra fleet sent to destroy this base.
Lotor's POV
Lotor sighs, he should have known that filthy hag would have found some way to revive Zarkon and then make him think I am a traitor.
Which is wrong, just because he kept the Syncline ships' construction a secret doesn't mean they would have remained a secret. But noooooo! Father needed an excuse to get rid of me so he took it. And now his own generals are betraying him.
Didn't they want a better future, a future where no one hates the Galra with every fiber of their being. A peaceful universe where everyone can benefit. Of course killing Narti for the sake of their dream must have been a dreadful sight to his generals.
But Haggar was using Narti and her cat Kova to spy on him. His generals don't know how many times Haggar has spied on him throughout the years and everytime she has, his father always gets angry with him.
His blood boils as he remembers what Zarkon did to the planet he was peacefully dealing with. If it were any other Galra Zarkon would have turned a blind eye to their kindness and peaceful dealings as long as they were getting Quintessence and resources, but if it was his son, oh no! The planet had to be destroyed!
Then he hears fewer firing shots being made on the base. Which was odd. However this might give him an opportunity to escape from his generals. Quickly he lifts his arms up and dislocates them and his wrist in order to escape his bindings.
Once that is done and his generals are in shock, he relocates his arms and wrists, hearing a snapping sound. Lotor races from them and heads for the first Syncline ship, the ship that resembles the head.
He grins, his father and neither the hag stopped his three ships from being complete. His generals would be forced to pilot the other two, but at some time he would get all three together, even if it meant working with Voltron.
As they all want peace from this terrible bloody war. It would have to take some convincing to Voltron, but an alliance between them could work.
Though he will have to earn their trust, which will be annoying. However he can handle it. After all, being patient is one of his strong suits.
Marinette's POV
Something catches her eye. It looks like a ship is fleeing the scene, but it doesn't look like one of the fleet ships. Her heart lifts, it could be an escape pod for whoever is in that base.
She made the right decision after all. One thing about this war that makes her happy, is being able to help people when they are in need and to give them hope.
"I think we can stop attacking. An escape pod just launched from the base."
Pidge looks at her, "That means that our plan worked. Still something is odd. Why would the Galra attack this base? It doesn't make any sense to send so many of their fleet ships without the cover of cruisers unless they were hoping no one would be able to strike back against them."
"My sister is right, it does seem odd. Normally the Galra attack with their fleets and at least three to four cruisers with Ion cannons to help or for the fleet to hide behind."
"I agree. However I don't think we'll get the answer even if we look from every angle for why they attacked the base and whoever was in it."
It certainly didn't help her when she tried to figure out why Hawkmoth wants the Black Cat and Ladybug miraculouses. As there are so many things he could wish for if the two miraculouses were unified. The only way she and Chat would get the answer is by asking Hawkmoth himself.
Still this rescue mission is very much odd no matter which way you look at it. However they did some good work, they cut down the Galra's resources by destroying some of their ships and they did help a person get away.
Meanwhile The Galra Are Receiving A Message From Zarkon:
"Citizens of the Galra Empire, my son Lotor is a traitor. He concealed valuable information that we now know about. As such any Galra has my permission to kill on sight if they see him. He escaped judgement today, however I assure you he will be killed, either by one of you or myself if I see him in my sight."
