T/W: Very slight mentions of rape, maybe triggering to some readers.

This story takes place after season 4. Eveything before season 4 is cannon, expect Rumple remains the dark one. No dark swan.

Chapter One: Happy Ending's Don't Exist

Ever since Robin was young, he understood the concept of a happy ending. How every hero was rewarded one, as long as they stayed truthful and kind and played by the laws of society. As a young boy he believed in happy endings without a second thought, as they made sense to his young brain. But as he got older, his belief began to waiver. The first time he truely started to doubt the concept was when he was 9 years old and his mother past away from the flu at only 31 years old. She was a kind and loving woman, doing nothing but helping the poor village by delivering baked goods to homeless individuals who didn't have a penny. Her sickness came about so suddenly, and she died three short days after catching the flu. Robin remembered wishing everynight for those three days like any hero in his books, praying for his mother to get better and he truely believed that she would. And then she didn't. His father kindly sat him down that day, explaining that whilst his mother died young, she still had an incredibly happy life, and sometimes tragedy hits, and we have to move forward. The explaination made enough sense at the time to Robin's grieving heart and he continued to believe in happy endings. Until his father died.

Robin was 14 years old when his father passed and unlike his mother, it wasn't from natural causes beyond their control. He was killed by a villain, a greedy nobleman who apparently couldn't wait another week for his father to gather enough money to pay his taxes.

'This is an example, peasants' The nobleman shoated at the top of his lungs for everyone to hear, pointing down at Robin's father like hunted animal carcus 'This is an example of what can happen when you do not pay your way in this world, when you go against who are above you'

He was a different man from that day forward. He never followed his parents example. He did not bake goods and feed the poor like his mother, nor did he work a low pay job for the sake of his family like his father. No, he lived for himself. Stole to get by, and camped out at random barns during the night. A thief was not something his parents every aspired for him to be, but he was an orphan with no where to go. And what else was he to do? These next few year were truely the lowest point of his life. That was, until he met his first love and wife, Marien.

Robin met Marien when he stole a horse from a poor farmer, not thinking for a second how this may impact the owner of said horse. However, he soon realised this when he woke up the following night by his now wife, Marien, who was aiming an arrow at him. She explained to him how much the horse ment to their families livelihood and that without it, they wouldn't survive. This took him back to the time when his father was brutally murdered by the greedy nobleman all because he wanted to steal his father's money; money that the nobleman certainly did not need. And by comparison, was he any better? Sure, he would never kill someone in cold blood, but he didn't want to be someone who stole from someone else when he didn't need it, especially since they needed the horse far more than he did. Marien made him realise a lot of things about himself that day and the man that he had become. But what truely made him fall in love with her was the fact she decided to give him a place to stay. That small act of kindness was something he hadn't received in years, and they quickly fell in love. He began to believe in the idea of happy endings again. He also vowed that he would never again steal from the poor, but he would use this skill of stealing to use, and instead steal from the rich and give to the poor. His live with Marien was something he never believed he could have for himself, and when they had their son, Roland. He truely felt that, maybe, happy endings do exist. That was until, one day, he found her dead in the forest. He was fortunate he decided not to take his son with him that day for a walk, otherwise young Roland at the age of 3 years old would've had to witness his mother lifeless in the forest.

Happy ending's don't exist. Can people blame him for believing that? He had a happy ending, changed his way's and became a better man. And for what? He was now a poor single father with little means to support his family. The dark curse was coming and there was nothing he could do to protect his child.

True love was not something Robin believed he would ever find again. Meeting Regina years after the curse broke, his first thought was not instant love at first site, not like with Marien. She was the evil queen, and of course he wouldn't judge her for her past, he'd be a hypocrite to do that, but this was the same woman who put the entire Enchanted Forest in a 28 year long curse, and whist he fortunately escaped it, he couldn't forget that fact when he first met her. But realising that she was in quite a dark time in her life, and that she wasn't the same woman she once once, made Robin want to find out more about her and ensure she was ok. It took a long while for them to trust each other, specifically her trusting him, but they eventually fell inlove. Despite what Regina may have felt, they had quite a few similarities. Both had fallen into dark places in their lifes where they lost hope in the idea of a happy ending, both had lost first loves due to circumstances out of their control, and both had children they would do anything for and had brought from the edge. Maybe happy endings do exist.

He had hoped too soon though, as he discovered shortly after the second curse broke, that Marien was back. He had no idea what his feelings towards Marien was at that point. He loved Regina, and he surely did still love Marien too, but it was more of a love of a lost love one, a lost best friend, rather than a solemate like it was for Regina. However, Marien was his wife and the mother of his son, so the right thing to do would surely be to stay with her? When Marien was under the curse, it made it easier for him to choose, but when her curse was finally broken, he had to make a choice, especially when it was apparent she could no longer live in Storybrooke, he had to make a choice, he had to go with her. It was his duty as a husband of his family.

He regretted that decision.

She seemed off, even when she got to Storybrooke. Shouting 'monster' at Regina was never something in Marien's character. She was always willing to give people a chance, never quick to judge, and even if she saw someone as a threat, she wouldn't throw insults at them. She'd either fight if she felt it was necessary or ensure everyone is brought to safety. She would jump into action and speak her mind if she felt she had to, but there was no reason to do so in that moment. He chalked it up to being due to the fact she was just suddenly brought into a new realm, where the woman who was just about to kill her was standing before her.

However, there was other things he noticed, especially as they got to New York that were huge red flags and out of character for her. She never wanted anything do to do with Roland. In fact, she quite often seemed annoyed by him, brushing him off everytime he came for attention and asked to play with her. She was also very adamant that they have 'alone time', stating that it's been so long and that she missed him. Yet, she'd never want to spend time with him otherwise. It became clear when he found out who she truely was; Zelena, Regina's jelous older sister who used him as a pawn to get revenge on her. Robin had never felt so violated in his life. Not only that, but this woman was oftentimes left alone with Roland. He missed all the warning signs, the red flags, even the now realised warning Rumplestiltskin had giving him; how did he know, and why didn't he tell him? No, this wasn't Rumplestiltskin's fault. This was his, he put himself and Roland in danger, hurt Regina, all because he was too gullible and too stupid to miss the warning signs. Luckily, due to Roland being young, Regina was able to erase his memories of his time in New York, but that didn't help the overall situation. Zelena was carrying Robin's child, and he had no clue what to do.

For the following months, Zelena remained in the asylum. This gave them time, but not enough time in the world, to prepare for the baby. Regina assured him that she wasn't upset with him, that she wasn't jelous of Zelena, but he knew how much having a child ment to Regina, and no matter how much she told him otherwise, he knew it hurt her that Zelena was carrying his child. It hurt him too. He never wanted this.

When the child was born, he didn't know what to think or feel. After he discovered Zelena wasn't Marien, the first few months of her pregnancy were of him processing that fact; that Marien was indeed still dead and the women he was sleeping with, the women he left alone with his son, was a deranged psychopath who's intent was to get revenge on Regina. After finally processing that fact, which he still wasn't sure he had, he then spent the next few months trying to mentally prepare for a child that didn't feel like his. When he first layed his eyes on his child, it wasn't the instant happiness he felt when he was saw Roland for the first time. He felt numb. And he hated himself for that. A father should love his child, and it wasn't his daughters fault for the circumstances that she had been born in.

As the months past, there were good days and bad days. There were days when he could get up and look at his daughter and start to feel she was truely his. Those days were a lot lighter. He wasn't just going through the motions of the day to survive, he was actually living. Other days, however, were feeled with grief, paranoia and anxiety. Grief for his wife Marien, who had been dead for over 30 years but it only left like yesterday, paranoia for a lack of trust, for if Zelena could pretend to be Marien, then who's to say Regina was really who she said she was. Regina, being so understand, gave Robin a necklace that could see through any glamour spell, but that didn't lessen the constant anxiety and lack of trust. He remembered a simpler time, were Regina was the one with trust issues, but his were straight up irrational and he knew it, but he had know idea how to lessen his fears.

As the months grew and he grew to learn more about his daughter, he started to see more of him in her than he did for her birth mother. She was born with bright red hair, but as the months grew, it dulled into a more strawberry blonde colour. But that was not all, her facial structure very much resembled Roland's when he was a baby, and she was also very giggly and bubbly like Roland was too. However, where Roland was quiet, his daughter was a lot more outgoing and adventurous as she was already close to walking at 7 months old. Seeing traits of his own family in his daughter made Robin truely begin to see who is daughter was. He truely loved her. This wasn't the happy ending he dreamed of as a young boy, but with his and Regina's wedding being planned, and his happy family living all in one roof, he started to believe that maybe this was it.

Then she escaped.

No one knew how, but she did. Regina was alerted in early hours of the morning that Zelena was not in her cell and no where to be found. There were wanted posters surrounding Storybrooke with rewards to whoever found her. Sighting were reported left, right and centre, but no one had proof. Regina put a protection spell around there home to protect the children, especially his daughter, from anything Zelena may had planned. But weeks turned into a month and then into two and with no news of where Zelena may be, people began to relax, if not still weary. People maid accusations, some saying that Regina was hiding her, other's saying that she still had Rumplestiltskin's dagger and using him as a spy, but with Regina physically proving she wasn't hiding Zelena and Rumplestiltskin showing his dagger to proof he was still, indeed, in control, people quited down their accusations and rumours quieted down.

It was when they were least expected it that she striked. Regina had gone out that evening with Henry, leaving Robin home alone with his children. He was in his bedroom, rocking his daughter to sleep, when Zelena appeared behind him

"Miss me doll?" She purred in his ear, making him jump backwards "Sorry, should've let you know I was coming, but what's the fun in that?"

"How did you get through the barrier!" Robin finally spoke and he was stunned in fear. How was he going to protect his children? Where was Roland?

"My sister did a good job, but she really lacks the skill. I'm surprised we both had the same teacher" She rambled as she stepped closer to Robin and the baby

"You stay away from my daughter!" Robin stepped back, cradling his daughter to his chest.

"My daughter don't you mean, I did all the hard work after all. You never even wanted her!' Zelena chuckled 'Of course, there's nothing you can do though. Regina isn't here."

"Zelena, I'm warning you." Robin stepped back further. He had no clue what do to do. He was backed into a corner with no way to defend himself. Somehow, Zelena removed the cuff, meaning she had magic, and he didn't even had his bow. All he could do was stall until Regina got here.

"Or what, you'll shoot me with your bow and arrow? I'm terrified!" She stepped closer, backing Robin into a corner. Smirking at Robin. "You're powerless" waving her hand, the baby teleported out of Robin's hands and straight into Zelena's arms. "Now, I'm going back to oz! Where I will finally have someone who loves me. Only me" And with that, Zelena teleported away.

Robin rushed to phone, dialing Regina's number. As much as he wanted to go after Zelena himself in that moment, he was no fool and knew he could not match Zelena's power. Also, he couldn't leave Roland alone and there was no way he was bringing him with him.

When Regina picked up, he didn't give her a chance to speak.

'Regina, Zelena came after her. She was here. She took her. She's going back to oz.' He rushed the words as fast as he could.

'Zelena was there? Do you know where she went?' Regina's voice sounded just as panicked as his did. She truely came to care for the baby as if she was her own. Even if biologically she was her niece, Regina was her true mother.

'No, she teleported away. I don't know. Please, I can't leave with Roland home alone.'

'Yes I'm leaving now.'

The next hour was the longest hour of his life. Regina had hung up the phone but promissed to keep him updated. In the mean time, Robin kept a close eye on Roland, bow and arrow in hand.

Then he heared the creeking of the front door, is first instinct was to grap his bow. He knew logically it was likely Regina, but he wanted to be save.

'Regina?'

'Yes Robin, it's me'

Robin rushed down the stairs to see Regina slowly make her way into the house, her eyes downcasted to the floor.

'What happened?' Robin spoke. He felt his stomach drop.

It turned out that Zelena had somehow gained possession of the socerous wand, which ment she could cast a spell to send both her and their child back to oz. They had lost. She had won. There were no beans, no magic portals, and certainly no one willing to cast the dark curse back to oz. There was no way there. His daughter was gone.

There is no such thing as happy endings.

A/N: Okay, so this is my first fanfiction ever so I honestly don't know if this is any good. But it's an idea I've had for a while. I think I'm not alone in hating the Zelena/Robin/Regina plot or whatever you wanna call it and especially how the show dealt with it by killing off Robin. How I've dealt with it is probably worse tho lol, but I don't plan on this being a one chapter story. My idea for this story is to mainly focus a little on the children of Storybrooke, like Rumple's and Belle's child, Hook and Emma's kid, and mainly, Robin's child and how she deals with basically being kidnapped by Zelena.

This chapter I wanted to focus on Robin mainly because I wanted to understand his character more. There unfortunately wasn't much about his past in the show and I wanted to talk a little about him here, since he will be a main part of the story.

Please be kind to me! I've double checked to make sure there isn't any errors, but grammar and spelling have never been my strong point. Also, any feedback would be greatly appreciated since this is my first fanfiction. Also, I don't know much about the ratings. Is T a good rating for this fic? It's definitely not M but I don't know if T is too harsh?

Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed, have a good day :)
