Chapter 19: A New Defender(Marinette's POV)
Tension drops in Marinette's shoulders. The battle is going surprisingly well. No backup from the Galra side seems to have come, though that's probably thanks to Pidge and Hunk disabling communications.
Even so, she can't get this niggling thought out of her mind that there's something more to this battle, whether it's a trap or its purpose is entirely different.
Marinette exhales, refocusing on the battle. The Galra forces go down within seconds of each of Voltron's sword strikes(As Pidge and Hunk got in their lions after they disabled the communication system), resulting in fiery explosions happening often. The Zaiforge cannon is providing sufficient backup for the Coalition's ground troops, whether that be firing any Galran ship who gets too close or firing Galra troops.
Though she honestly suspected the Galra to more than just ground troops and robot Sentries. Maybe tanks or some different robots, like the different droids from Star Wars or something.
She is perfectly aware that the Galra is different from the Empire in Star Wars but they do have a lot of similarities.
Suddenly the Zaiforge cannon on the planet stops firing shots.
Fear overcomes Marinette, and tension builds in her stomach. Why would the Zaiforge cannons stop working? Her breathing becomes frantic and at first she doesn't notice slowly being drawn to the surface of Naxzela.
Trying to reclaim a sense of calm, Marinette begins to deep breathe.
"Paladins! What's going on?! A Galra….usier…has app….ed….bu….i…"
That snaps her out of her terror, "Coran! Can you hear us?" Before her terror can reclaim her, Marinette looks out of her lions window. A giant yellow shield has formed around them. Naxzela also looks like it's going to collapse in on itself. The trees are bending down and snapping off. Like if the Gravity is…
"Guys, the planet is collapsing in on itself, resulting in the Gravity going haywire!" She shouts, not really knowing what that will accomplish.
"Yeah, but I don't know what's causing it. All I can sense is that it's the work of a dark presence." Allura responds calmly.
"So then how are we supposed to get out of this?" Hunk cries out.
"I can use my lucky charm!"
"Your what?" asks Lance.
Pidge speaks before Marinette can explain, "Remember how that huge red cannon with black spots appeared on the Black Lion just after Shiro came back."
Lance nods.
"That's her lucky charm! It's an ability that allows Ladybug to end a problem that she can't figure out on her own. She explained it to us during our girls' night that we had a while ago."
"Oh. So that's how you got the cannon to appear.."
Marinette nods. "And I can use it to determine what to do now."
Standing up, she exhales, "Here goes. Lucky Charm!"
A model of Voltron falls into her hands. The rest of the model is red with black spots, but the blue lion isn't. It also has a heart that's blue on the chest of the model Voltron.
"What can I use this for?" She murmurs.
Then she looks around with her ladybug vision, spotting Allura as the solution. Looking back at the model Voltron with her ladybug vision the Blue Lion and the Blue heart are highlighted.
"That's it! Allura you're the solution. Somehow you're the heart of Voltron, whatever that means." She exclaims, looking at the Altean.
"Me? But I…"
Lance pipes up, "I know! You can use the thing you did to heal the Balmera to get us out of here! Your Altean magic thingy!"
Allura gives him a quizzal glance, "That was part of it, but I also had to use a lot of willpower to make sure the spell worked."
"Then you can do it Allura. Lance believes in you and so do I. My lucky charm doesn't lie, every charm it's given me has always benefited me and Chat Noir. You are the heart of Voltron!"
"I can try. But this will be much more complicated than healing the Balmera."
Lotor's POV
Lotor grinds his teeth. Zarkon's ships have been tailing him for hours. At least now he has outdistanced them to where it will take them a while to catch up. It's still frustrating though.
He turns on his radio to hear about the chase. But instead, "I repeat all ships are to remain out of the Naxzela Quadrant. I repeat all ships are to remain out of the Naxzela Quadrant.I rep….."
What's going on with the Naxzela Quadrant? And why is it not suddenly off limits.
Hmmmm. Time to go find out.
When he approaches the Quadrant he notices a yellow shield around Naxzela with Voltron trapped inside. Lotor snarls, this must be that witches doing. Looking over to his right he discovers a Galra Cruiser far out from the planet but not too far away being shot by Voltron's allies, but the Cruiser has an impenetrable Particle Barrier shielding itself.
Lotor smirks, but not impenetrable enough.
Flying towards the ships he blasts the Particle Barrier, shattering it into a million little purple particles. Wisely the Cruiser retreats before Voltron's allies' shock wears off. Turning his ship back around to face Naxzela, he relaxes, Voltron and the Planet Naxzela are unharmed.
And that yellow shield over Naxzela has also disappeared.
Which is another relief. Perhaps he should join Voltron. After all, did they not have the same goal of changing the way the universe has been running for thousands of years? And he'll be more safe than being on his own. Even if Voltron might make him their prisoner. But being their prisoner is much better than the death that awaits him if he returns to the Galra Empire right now.
Turning on his comm, Lotor says, "I know we have had our differences in the past, but I think it's time we have a discussion."
Haggar's POV
She sags to the ground in relief. It worked, her plan worked! Her son will now be safe with Voltron. Dark Zarkon cannot lay his hands on her son now.
It was worth it, so worth it. Because it didn't fail. Voltron was saved and her son is now with them. And with Lotor on their side Voltron will have an even better chance at winning. Which makes her tingle with excitement.
A new era of peace is on the horizon.
