Red decided to let his team out and explore after traveling for a bit away from Celedon.
"So Kirin, how are you liking our trainer so far?" Queenie asked.
"W-well he's a good trainer and he has helped me grow stronger than I used to be. S-so it's nice. Plus I get to train alongside Nouva!" She smiled.
Nouva just rolled his eyes.
"Wowie! Nouva sure is lucky to find someone like you! Everyone needs their significant other!"
Nouva just growled. "Voltaro do you ever shut up!?" He said veins appearing on his forehead.
"Guys can we not fight in front of her? You two are making a bad impression" Queenie smiled.
"S-so you think I will be a good team member?"
Nouva reassured her "Well, you have proven yourself quite a force to be reckoned with." He said with a stoic face.
Queenie encouraged her even more "For sure! Red seems to be quite fond of you!"
Voltaro spoke "Hell, he taught you some TM's! You gotta use those moves more. Strike fear into the hearts of unjust foes and villains!" He raised a fist into the air and emitted lightning bolts.
Kirin just leaned towards Nouva and whispered "Is he always this eccentric?"
"You have no idea" He whispered back.
"Oi! I find myself appealing, the ladies will be checking me out!" He did another pose.
Nouva then facepalmed "Just like that one time when you were a Pikachu and you tried to hit it off with an Eevee?"
He froze in his tracks, "No no no! She wasn't my type anyway!"
Queenie then elbowed Nouva, "Heh, he tried to be her… how should I say this… "Punny Pokemon?"
Both he and the Nidoqueen began chuckling.
"Yeah he almost had her too until he made a terrible pun." Nouva said, giving a sly smile.
Kirin tilted her head up towards the Charmeleon, "W-what pun was that?"
"You will be my eeveelution in life" Queenie smirked.
Voltaro just knelt on his knees, "It sounded better in my head!" He got up and sat on the log. "I shoulda just did a 'Knight in Shining Armor' thing" He muttered.
Kirin picking up on the whole 'Knight in shining armor' bit. "Well Nouva here would fit that role very well"
Nouva just closed his eyes and looked away from her. He then smiled a tiny bit as he felt pride.
"Well how about this! We should do a tag team battle!"
Nouva waved him off "No, I'm good"
"What's wrong? Afraid you're gonna lose in front of your girlfriend?" Voltaro smugly laughed.
Nouva glared at him "How many times do I have to fucking say it? She's not my girlfriend! Geez!"
"Why are you getting offended so easily then?" He eyed him suspiciously.
"Do they always fight?" Kirin asked Queenie.
Queenie just shook her head. "This is just a regular thing. I'm telling you they act like children sometimes."
"No we don't!" They both said in unison.
Voltaro simply turned around. "It's fine you don't want to look bad in front of the girls. I don't blame you," He closed his eyes.
Nouva, fed up, said "You know what? Fine, we'll do that tag team battle so I can make you run with your tail between your legs! After this will you just let me relax?"
Voltaro hopped in the air yelling "Booyah! Let's get this party started!"
"S-so who's teaming with who?" Kirin asked.
"I got an Idea! How about me and Kirin versus Queenie and Nouva?" Voltaro suggested.
Everyone agreed.
"Let's just get this over with…" Nouva muttered.
They all took sides and then after some time waiting, a Pidgey dropped a rock it was carrying and as soon as it hit the ground everyone dashed towards each other.
Queenie started by using Rock Slide and Voltaro and Kirin dodged. Voltaro used Quick Attack towards Nouva, who dodged and used Dragon Claw. Voltaro dodged all the Dragon Claw slashes, wrapping his tail around Nouva and using Thunderbolt. Nouva winced from the pain but then retaliated with Flamethrower.
"Owowowow!" yelled Voltaro.
Queenie tried to use Brick Break, but Kirin nimbly avoided it by jumping on Queenie's head to then launch herself off of her to gain distance. She got poisoned due to Queenie's Poison Point, however, and struggled to use surf. Thanks to her Shed Skin ability, she was able to summon the huge wave which made Queenie get a little nervous as surf would also hit Nouva. She ran and picked Nouva up. "Queenie what the hell are you doing!?" He growled.
"One sec," She did a flip and slammed her tail into the ground to send her over the tidal wave.
Voltaro's jaw dropped "Woah!"
Nouva held his hands to his mouth trying not to puke "I think I'm gonna be sick!" He howled.
"Get ready Nouva!" She said as she threw him up to avoid her own move. She landed and used Earthquake, hitting both Kirin and Voltaro and making them yelp in pain. Nouva landed and then decided to go after Kirin. He tried Iron Tail and she ducked under it, starting to get a little overwhelmed. She started to get a bit scared and tried to avoid attacks more than anything. Queenie turned to Voltaro who gulped, knowing he couldn't really do much to her.
"It's time for my trump card!" He rubbed his chin.
Queenie laughed, "Oh really and what would that be my friend?"
He answered "I'm going to say the n word."
"What word is that?" Queenie scratched her head.
Voltaro chuckled then bolted away "Nigerundayo!"
Queenie just deadpanned for a second before aiming a Rock Slide his way. He dodged and made his way to Nouva. Nouva dodged Voltaro and smacked him on the head with Iron Tail. Although it wasn't very effective, it did make Voltaro discombobulated. Queenie was making her way toward Voltaro as well but Kirin used Fire Blast and burned Queenie.
"Heck!" She growled and then prepared a Rock Slide.
Kirin started shaking at the sight of all the rocks that were about to head her way.
Nouva and Voltaro were attacking and dodging until the Charmeleon grabbed Voltaro's tail and threw him towards Queenie.
Queenie ended up hitting Voltaro with the rocks instead of Kirin.
Kirin sighed a breath of relief. She turned to see Nouva cracking his knuckles.
"Well Kirin, you are quite impressive. You're tough! Though I don't feel like losing" Nouva smirked.
Kirin tried to match Nouva's energy "I-I uh don't w-want to lose either?"
He charged towards her and failed to notice a small rock from Queenie's Rock Slide, tripping and falling directly onto Kirin. He rubbed his head and then noticed he had her pinned under him. She looked at him blushing. He stood up quickly, blushing as well. "Uh shit, lost my footing. You're not hurt are ya?" He said readjusting his scarf in embarrassment.
"I-I'm fine" She said, still blushing.
Voltaro noticed this and burst out with laughter. "Ha! You two need a room!?"
Nouva turned his head and glared.
"Haha, oh my god! You looked like such a fool!" he snorted. "And here I thought I was the clumsy one!"
Nouva yelled. "Shut up Voltaro!" He growled, still flustered.
"I can't right now!" He fell on his back flailing his legs. "What's next; we might see an egg in that room?"
Nouva just sighed. "Whatever, you had your battle now just let me go relax." With that he walked away, flames still spewing from his mouth.
Kirin was about to rush after him but Queenie shook her head. "Give him a bit, dear."
They both glared at Voltaro who stopped laughing and sighed "Ok... so maybe I went a bit too far…"
Queenie pinched his ear "Dammit Voltaro! You can't joke about those kind of things with certain people!"
He tried to pull away but to no avail, screaming "Aieeeey! Ok ok! I'm sorry!"
"Don't apologize to me! Apologize to Nouva!" She tugged his ear more.
"I-I have to go talk to him first!" Kirin said, slithering after him.
Nouva sat next to a tree. Fuming, he sat there trying not to let his anger get the best of him. "Dammit! Why does he antagonize me so much?!" He muttered. He finally couldn't control it and slammed his fist into the tree, putting a hole in it and bruising his hand. "Shit!" He yowled from the pain. He slumped down the tree, closing his eyes.
"Nouva!?"
He sighed "Great, not a damn moment of peace around here."
Kirin came around the tree and saw the Charmeleon laying on the ground. She sat beside him.
"Hey, Nouva. Um… why did you get so upset back there?" He sighed and held his hands to his face and dragged them down.
"Because Kirin, he likes to annoy me and I don't want you to get the wrong idea. Especially after what happened."
"Well, I didn't get the wrong idea Nouva. I respect you and you were my knight in shining armor" She smiled.
He couldn't help but feel flustered a bit. "Tch, yeah whatever. I did what was right."
"Anyway you shouldn't let his jokes get to you." She said looking at him. "
I guess, but it's just so frustrating" He growled.
Kirin spoke "Well even so he doesn't mean any harm."
Nouva turned his head to her. "Doesn't that bother you that he says that about us?"
"Well yeah, but I turn my cheek to it."
Nouva sighed, "Guess Queenie was right. I do act like a child. I looked like a fool, just as Voltaro said." He looked down ashamed.
Kirin tried to think of a way to consort Nouva. " You don't seem like a child to me because, again, Voltaro saying jokes like that would make anyone upset. As for you looking like a fool, I think you looked cute out there in battle."
Nouva blushed and turned his head away. "N-no, it was just a simple battle." He huffed.
She then noticed his hand was bleeding. "Oh my gosh! What happened to your hand!?"
He tried covering it up. "Uh, I may or may not have punched the tree we are sitting under."
"Nouva! That's not a good thing to do!" Kirin groaned.
Nouva said nothing and just kept looking down.
"Wait here!" She said.
Red was sleeping under a tree with his backpack next to him. Kirin took out some bandages and slithered away. Queenie and Voltaro just looked at each other, wondering what was going on but decided not to follow.
She came back a few minutes later and dropped the bandages from her mouth. "Alright let me see your hand."
"N-no, it's fine!" He protested.
She took his hand anyway and started to wrap the bandages with her tail around his hand "Better safe than sorry!" She chirped.
Nouva couldn't help but blush and look away from her.
"There! Better?"
He gave a small smile. "Yeah, thanks Kirin" He said and then he blushed when he looked her in the eyes. "I- uh sorry about getting angry earlier" He said, looking away.
"It's fine. Sure wish we coulda finished our battle. I sucked out there..." She nervously laughed.
He turned to her and reassured her "You were good. You impressed me- I saw as you were fighting. You didn't get hit even once."
She shook her head. "But I was starting to get scared. So I would've got hit by you if, you know, you didn't trip."
He nervously chuckled. "Y-yeah, sorry. I didn't hurt ya did I?"
"No no no! I'm perfectly fine!"
He sighed in relief. "That's good."
They both sat there for a few and were enjoying the breeze.
"Do you wanna head back?" Kirin asked.
"Nah, let's just sit here for a few minutes" He yawned.
A few minutes passed by and then the two returned to the group.
Voltaro walked over to Nouva and said "Look, Nouva. I know I tend to mess with you a lot but I guess I kinda went too far this time and I'm sorry." He said as his ears bent down.
Nouva sighed "No, it's my fault."
"Eh?" Both he and Queenie said.
"I overreacted and I'm sorry. I shouldn't get so worked up all the time. Next time though try not to push boundaries with your jokes. Got it?" He held his hand out and Voltaro vigorously shook it.
"Alright buddy! I promise to not mess with you as much!"
Queenie sighed in relief "Well, at least that's done" She gave Nouva a stern look. "Now, what happened to your hand?"
Nouva gulped. "Uh… I hurt it and Kirin helped bandage it. It should be fine."
"If we need to go to a pokemon center then we need to go before infections and germs spread."
He waved her off "I'm telling you, I'm fine." He said with a stoic face.
Queenie walked away, muttering worriedly to herself with Voltaro following close by.
"Hey Kirin, thanks for talking some sense into me" He smiled.
She beamed as she saw Nouva actually smile and not give a smirk or anything like that. Perhaps she's starting to have an impact on him.
"So why don't we finish our battle?" Voltaro grinned, coming back with Quuenie.
Nouva huffed "Fine you're on! What do you say to that Kirin?"
"Let's do it!" She beamed.
They all lined up again and resumed the battle from where they left off.
