Chapter 2.
"Anael's in the library." said Charlie, "We should tell her. Then you need to call Sarah."
"Yes." said Sam, "Before that, Cas, Jack, if you're listening, we now know we're going to be parents. Come and celebrate with us."
Jack appeared instantly in the doorway. "I'm so happy for you both," he said, "And for the baby."
"Come on." said Sam, "We're going to tell Anael and Sarah."
They all went together to the library. where Anael had just been joined by Cas and Jules. Jules threw her arms around Sam before he or Eileen could say a word.
"What's going on?" said Anael.
"I'm having a baby!" said Eileen.
Sam had grown to like Anael and her sudden look of joy did nothing to change that. "That's wonderful!" she said, "Congratulations! What do you need?"
"Nothing, yet." said Sam, laughing, "The baby's not gonna be here for months."
"It's already here." said Cas, "I can see the aura within Eileen's."
"Does the aura seem healthy?" said Sam.
"If it didn't, I would be offering to heal the baby." said Cas.
"Of course. Sorry. My head's spinning."
"No, it isn't." said Anael.
"Metaphor." said Cas.
"Oh." she said. Sam noticed that she didn't say what she could see. Jack had promised to make her human if she could prove to him that she could function without her angelic powers. She couldn't lose her ability to see auras, but she was not going to draw his attention to it.
"Does Dean know?" said Cas.
"Dean is, at this very moment, shopping for vegetables." said Sam.
"For vegetables?" said Cas.
"He thinks Eileen should eat healthy." said Sam.
"Don't laugh at him for it." said Eileen, "It's sweet."
"I didn't laugh at him and I won't." said Sam.
"Ketchup is a vegetable." said Cas, his tone suggesting somebody had told him that at some point.
"Technically a fruit." said Sam.
"But healthy?" said Cas.
"There are worse things you could eat." said Sam, neither wanting to lie, nor to make Cas feel stupid.
"That's what I thought." said Cas.
Sam called Sarah. "Hey, Sarah," he said, "You're on speaker, so keep it clean."
Sarah laughed her rich, warm, sweet old lady laugh and said, "I'll try. What's your brother done now?"
"Nothing." said Sam. He turned to Eileen. "Tell Sarah." he said.
"We're having a baby!" said Eileen.
"I call principle Grandma duties!" said Sarah.
"Well, of course!" said Sam.
"You tell that beautiful wife of yours that she just made me the happiest old woman on the planet."
Sam grinned at Eileen. "She's very happy." he said, "Happiest on the planet."
"I love you, Sarah." said Eileen.
"If she needs anything, baby stuff, a break from overly-protective Winchesters or just someone to talk to, I am always here."
"We know that, Sarah. Thanks. Gotta go. Need to tell Jody."
He called her. "Jody," he said, "I'm gonna be a Dad."
"Really?" she said.
"You think I'd prank you over something like this?" he said.
"Dean would."
"No, not even Dean would do that." he said.
"You're having a kid? That's perfect. You are gonna be the best Dad ever."
"I wish I had your confidence in me." he said.
"So do I. The girls are here. You want me to tell them?"
"I do." he said.
There was a brief pause while she went through into the next room. He heard her say, "Sam and Eileen are having a baby."
He heard Claire say, "I prefer steak."
"Ignore her." said Jody, "You should see the grin on her face."
"Congratulations, Sam and Eileen!" shouted Alex. Further shouts of encouragement came from the others.
"Call Donna." said Jody, "She needs to know."
He did. "Hey, Sam!" she said.
"Hey, Donna. Guess who's gonna be buying a lot of baby clothes soon."
"Don't buy too many," she said, "Auntie Donna needs to be in on this. Give Eileen a hug from me."
"I will." he said.
"Do we have a due date?" said Donna.
"Not sure right now." said Sam, "April?" he said to Eileen.
She nodded.
"April." he said, "That's the best I can do for now."
"A spring baby!" she said.
Next was Garth. "What do you need, Sam?" he said.
"Nothing at all." said Sam, "Just calling to let you know that my beautiful wife is pregnant."
"How pregnant?" said Garth.
"Completely pregnant." said Sam. He laughed. "Due in April." he said.
"That's fantastic. Tell her to meet with Bess sometime. There's nothing my lady doesn't know about having babies."
"Thanks, I will." said Sam.
Next he called Cesar. "Hey, Cesar, you know you said we should have around a dozen kids?"
"I remember saying something of that kind, after the fourth tequila." said Cesar.
"Well, we made a start. Let Jesse know, will you?"
"Jesse is gonna be stoked! So am I, Sam. You two were born to be parents."
When he'd finished all the calls, he turned to Cas. "You told Bobby, right?"
Before Cas could answer, Sam's phone rang. "Bobby!" he said.
"I don't do babysitting." said Bobby, "You want it watched for a few hours, I guess that's okay, but I change diapers only as a last resort."
"Got it." said Sam.
"Eileen well?"
"Eileen's fantastic." said Sam.
"I know that. I asked how she's feeling."
"She's feeling great." said Sam.
"Well done, Sam. You're doing what I never had the courage to do and you're gonna be amazing at it."
"Thanks, Bobby." said Sam.
"You want me to take the news to Heaven? Tell the Winchester clan?"
"Not just yet. I think we need to tell Mom and Dad." said Sam.
"You don't sound very happy about it." said Bobby.
"I'm fine about it." said Sam.
"Yeah, except for the miles and miles of daddy issues. You want me to be there when you tell them, so I can break John's jaw if he says the wrong thing?"
"No, but I appreciate the offer." said Sam.
"Remind him he promised I could be godfather." said Crowley in the background.
"Remind Crowley I said we're not doing that." said Sam.
When Dean returned, he looked surprised to see Jack, Cas and Jules, but he said, "I take it you all heard the news."
"We did." said Jules "And Sam just called everyone who needs to know."
"We should tell Rowena too." said Cas, "To avoid the whole Maleficent issue arising."
"I don't understand that reference." said Anael.
"I'll explain later." said Dean.
"Okay, thanks." she said.
Dean looked at Eileen. "We now have a kitchen full of real food, which you are in no way obligated to eat, but it's there if you want it."
"Thanks, Dean." she said, "It was good of you to do that."
"There's nothing I won't do for you, Sam and the kid." he said, "I don't suppose you've thought of names yet."
"No, not yet." said Sam.
"Don't name the kid after anyone alive." said Dean, "Too confusing."
"If you're asking me not to name him or her after you, I wouldn't." said Sam, "That is far too high a standard to lay on any child's shoulders, but Dean or Deanna would be a very good middle name."
"Not Deanna." said Dean.
"Whatever you say."
"You could name the kid after where he or she was conceived. It's fashionable." said Dean.
"Impala?" said Jack. Then he blushed. "I wasn't watching, honestly, but when Dean said that, the knowledge just popped into my head. Sometimes, I can't fully shut down the omniscience."
"The Impala?" said Dean, looking from Sam to Eileen.
"It was a long journey and we were feeling romantic." said Sam, "We stopped and spent the night in the car. On a scale of one to ten, how angry are you?"
"Not at all angry." said Dean, a slow smile appearing. "First Winchester of a new generation, conceived in the Impala? That just seems right."
It did and Sam smiled back at his brother, then he hugged Eileen. "Donna sent that for you." he said.
"Did she send any messages for me?" said Dean, smirking.
"She said to give you a big, wet kiss." said Sam.
The smirk died on his lips. "Ah, well, no time for that now."
"I'll bet." said Sam.
