Peter Parker awoke to shouting.
"STOP HIM!"
He threw his gaze towards the sound, seeing.. what?
Peter's eyes widened as he recognized the criminal. The same criminal who took his Uncle's life. The same criminal he let get away.
His body moved before he could think; Tackling the thief to the ground, pinning down his arms. The Security Guard stopped and dropped into a crouch, grabbing his arms and putting them in handcuffs. Peter leapt up, trying to keep his face calm- wait, he had his—
He never wore the costume in the nightmares.
"Oh! Thank you!" That voice- It was the guy who cheapened him out of the money from the Wrestling tournament. Involuntarily taking a step back, Peter tried to control his breathing; feeling confused. This never happened- He never stopped the criminal. He never had the costume. What the hell?
"Hey, kid," The same boss from earlier said, to which Peter responded by shaking his head back into awareness. The boss pushed a stack of money into his chest, to which Peter hesitantly took. "You may not have lasted two minutes in the cage, but you earned your pay by stopping that guy. Now scram, get outta here. I'll take care of this mook."
Peter hesitantly nodded before walking away, looking at the bills in his hands with confusion. None of this ever happened. It all felt real, too. Why—
His eyes snapped wide open as he realized what this could have meant. He was sent through time, back to this very moment. Back to his first failure; the day he learned the lesson.
"With great power.. comes great responsibility.." Peter whispered to himself, looking at his empty hand, and making a fist.
"Yeah. With great power comes great responsibility."
Peter walked down the dark street quickly. He was practically running, his backpack bouncing off his back as he sped by house after house— And then he finally came across it. He came across his home. Peter stood there, his throat feeling dry. He took some shaky steps towards the door, before knocking on it. Almost instantly, the door flew open, and Peter felt like he could cry at the sight before him.
Before Peter stood his Uncle Ben, his brown and gray and white hairs illuminated by the light, his button up shirt and pants on.
"Peter! Where have you been?! I tr—" Ben didn't get to finish as a nephew shaped bullet ran into him, sobbing as he pulled him into a hug. Ben immediately hugged him back, holding his head in one of his hands, his arm around his back. "Shh, shh, calm down Champ. What's wrong?"
Peter looked up at his Uncle with watery eyes, feeling beyond relieved, more than he could ever put in words.
"I missed you, Uncle Ben. I missed you so much."
Ben looked confused, but put on the best smile that he could for his nephew.
"I missed you too, Pete."
Ben sighed as that caused his boy to cry even harder.
Peter woke up from his bed, frantic. He literally leapt out of bed and raced down the stairs. Please- PLEASE—
"Hey, Champ!"
Peter couldn't have been more happier than he was at that current moment. Forget being Spider-Man, for a moment. His responsibilities, his enemies, most of who didn't even exist yet. He needed this moment, this moment here, to spend with his Uncle, who smiled so brightly from the Kitchen.
"Do you want some eggs? I was making May and I so—"
"Yes, please!" Peter trilled, before leaping into a seat, pulling his aunt into a hug. She gave a small laugh, looking at Peter with a weird look.
"Peter! You seem rather happy today. What made you so happy?" May asked, quirking the corner of her lips upwards. Peter gave her the brightest smile she had ever seen from her Nephew, even when his parents were alive.
"I'm just— So grateful, for you guys. So happy to aheb you." That answer satisfied the pair, who nodded before going back to what they were doing.
Peter knew he'd have to go back to being Spider-Man. To save others. To help them— Maybe even prevent some of his enemies from happening. Peter made a mental list as to who he could save. He would have to. But for now, for this moment, this day. He could have a normal breakfast with his family.
That's when the news ran a story about a Chitauri Invasion, and Peter's blood turned ice cold, because that never happened for him before.
So, yes, this story was inspired by The Spider. However, I don't have this based in any particular universe, except for Peter. He'll mostly be based on his 616 personality and history with elements of other things. The universe, clearly, will be mixed with elements of everything, which should be fun.
I hope you guys enjoyed this short beginning. Have a nice day, and tune in next time for Chapter 2: The Avengers
