Welp.
He hadn't been planning to reveal his other life to his aunt and uncle quite yet, Nick, thanks. Aunt May hadn't been as supportive, but Ben understood why. He was surprised they took it so well. He also hadn't given them the full story yet, the story that this was his second run through life. That… he failed Ben, all those years ago. Not yet.
Anyways.
Nick Fury, best spy there is, trust issues galore… and Peter Parker ended up on his radar.
Peter had been expecting a "do or die" situation, a threat. What he got instead was an invitation to the Avengers initiative.
He refused, much to Fury's surprise. He did, however, become a reserve member, just in case something really needed him to be there. That, and he'd grown to mostly prefer to work alone.
Peter felt the universe laugh at that thought. He shuddered.
Here he was, a week later, laying in his bed. Tomorrow was the first day of his Junior year, yet another inconsistency with his timeline. Not that he minded much, it was just an excuse to get out of school quicker in his eyes.
He thought about everything that happened during his school years and smirked. He would pass with ease through this year. He remembered all the answers, the questions. As long as the classes didn't change, he was set. Even then, he could handle whatever came his way. Peter closed his eyes as he thought that. World, get ready for a brand new Peter Parker.
The squeaking of shoes caught everyone's attention as Peter almost slipped, reflexively doing a front flip and sticking the landing.
Flash Thompson looked on in confusion from down the hall. Kong froze. Sally blinked, and Liz Allen put a hand over her mouth. Peter's face turned a slight twinge of red, as he played it off. Or tried to. Nice going Pete.
"W-wow, that was lucky," He quipped, to which the neighboring locker closed, and Harry Osborn had a small laugh.
"I'll say. I thought you were about to land on your ass."
This change wasn't so bad. When Harry had met with Peter, he had him, as his hair wasn't the natural Osborn two tone or a buzz cut. It was more grown out. Actually hair.
Turns out, they were childhood friends. He learned that after managing to convince Harry that he hit his head during the invasion, and got slight amnesia because of it. Osborn Industries had been partaking in the rescue efforts, Harry's father having a genuine interest in the people of the city. Peter accidentally growled when Harry mentioned his father, which was a whole other situation.
Back to the usual program, Peter gave a nervous laugh.
"I did too, Harry, I'm not sure why I didn't."
"Well I think it was cool," Another voice chimed in. This was Ned Leeds, apparently Peter's other best friend. They had apparently connected over legos, which Peter found himself having a new fascination with.
He had done the biggest double take in history when Ned reminded him of his name. This Ned and the Ned from before were completely different. Which maybe meant no Hob Goblin. Or, well, fake Hob Goblin..? He wasn't sure.
… He could work with that.
"Thank you, Ned," Peter gratefully said, sending a mock glare at Harry, who rolled his eyes and put a hand to his chest dramatically. Peter snorted, causing the other two to let out a laugh.
Spider-Sen—
Peter's expression went dead as he stuck out his hand and caught a football with it, snapping his head in the direction that it came from.
Flash looked on in confusion and nowfound terror as Peter threw it back, getting hit in the stomach. Then Flash got angry. Harry glanced at Ned, and the two slowly backed away a step as Flash marched up to Peter, and got right in his face.
Flash Thompson. School bully turned soldier turned good friend. Their relationship wasn't a smooth one in the previous life, it wouldn't be one here. But Peter could probably quicken it along by having some backbone.
"What was that, Parker? Who told you that you could catch that?"
"I don't need permission to catch a ball, Eugene. Maybe that's why you failed last season." Peter had no idea if he was right or not, but by the collective 'Oohs', he probably hit it spot on. Flash's face flared red as he picked Peter up by the collar and slammed him against the locker.
"Finally growing a backbone, huh, Puny Parker? Let me to beat it out of you!" Flash took away one arm and swung at Peter, but he slapped his other hand away and ducked. Flash's fist went straight into the locker, the large boy giving out a yelp of pain before spinning towards Parker. Flash looked confused as he threw another punch. Peter took the punch this time, his head whipping back as Flash took his fist back.
Peter's hands went up to his face as he whipped his head back forward, Ned gasping and Harry's jaw dropped. Flash smirked smugly as he began walking away, satisfied.
"Remember where you are, Parker. It's better for you."
Peter's brows furrowed. Okay, maybe it'd be a lot harder.
"Is this seat taken?"
Chemistry. It had to be chemistry.
Peter nearly choked in air as he looked up to see who had said it. His heart met his throat as Gwen Stacy stood there. The woman he loved. The woman he failed. Her black headband was there. Her blonde hair went down smoothly, straight lined. His throat felt dry. His eyes were wide. His palms felt sweaty.
'Come on Pete, say something!'
"Y-Ye— I mean no! No!" Peter answered, to which the girl giggled softly at his awkwardness. From the back, he could hear Flash give a small laugh. She set her bag down and sat down next to Peter, the brunette blinking rapidly before looking down.
If he could stop the GOBLIN from even existing- He'd need to get lucky with all the changes— Maybe he could save more than Gwen.
Lord knows he didn't want to take the place of a support beam again.
Nonetheless, this was yet another change. He met her in College, not High School. He needed to start noting these down; there were so many big and minor changes. Could the universe be a little more forgiving? Maybe keep his villains the same? Who else was going to be in this high school? Carol Danvers? Okay, maybe not that far, but the point remained.
If he met Venom in the next 48 hours he may scream.
He put his head in his hands and let out a low groan, much to the confusion of the young Stacy next to him.
Lunch time was the first step to normality. Oh thank god, school food. Peter took a bite out of his food, and had to resist spitting it out. A smile spread on his face anyways.
"Oh, thank you God, the food is still normal," He said, before Harry popping right over his shoulder, giving him an odd look.
"What do you mean, Pete? Why wouldn't it be normal?" Harry asked in confusion as he sat down next to Peter, Ned doing the same thing on his other side.
"Yeah man, I mean, it hasn't changed since Freshman year."
Peter's eyes widened as he stumbled over his words.
"Well— I mean- I saw this thing about how school food was going to be changed, and I'm glad it didn't. It was supposed to be worse than what we have now."
"How can it be worse?" Ned asked in horror, Harry's eyebrows going up slightly. Peter only shook his head softly.
"You don't wanna know Ned. You don't wanna know."
Gym Class.
Seeing as it was the first day of school, there wasn't much here. He had Ned here, at least. Liz Allen, who he realized was the girl he saved (wow she was different here) was also here. They were.. alright, back in High School. She still hung out with Flash and his gang. Speaking of whom—
Peter's muscle memory kicked in as he avoided a dodgeball to the face. Flash's jaw dropped, as did a few other kids'. Peter facepalmed. His muscle memory was readjusted now, but it was too readjusted. As in he was having trouble dodging everything. Normally, that's a good thing… but not when you have a secret identity to keep.
Unfortunately and fortunately for him, facepalming caused the next ball to slam into his chest.
The day was.. nice.
He'd certainly enjoyed it far more than any day in school in his last lifetime. But it was.. freaky. It was as if everyone and everything he knew in his life; Stuff from his 20s, were being rolled back into now.
Scratch meeting Venom before screaming, if he met any of his villains now he'd scream.
Peter stepped off his bus, before someone tripped into him. He fell to the ground, his Spider-Sense not going off, as if it hadn't predicted danger. Probably an accident, then. He still managed to flip himself in time and hit the ground. And that's when Peter thanked every lucky star he had that years of keeping a mask prevented him from screaming.
"Sorry, Tiger, I missed that last step!"
Mary Jane Watson stood up, and offered out a hand to Peter.
"We'd better get going; don't want either of us getting in trouble, huh?"
Peter took in a long, deep breath before putting in the biggest smile he could and acted like everything was entirely normal and nothing was wrong.
Everything was wrong.
Ned was completely different from the original timeline. Harry was different. His history with Mary Jane was different— The only, the ONLY normal thing was Gwen Stacy, at the moment, and that is stretching it. Funnily enough, the second closest thing to being normal was the formation of the Avengers, but even then they didn't gain Captain America for a bit, and there was no invasion of New York. Hell, they united against the Hulk, not work with him.
Another thing; Since when did people actually talk to him during this time? Liz actually had a conversation with him, and Flash surprisingly actually said things that weren't just insults.
Peter groaned, his head pressing into his hands, over his notebook on things he needed to take care of.
The top of the list had basic things.
Locate any and all teams and groups from his previous lifetime, gain their status. Find out the year. Test out his own abilities, and reflexes, and help Cindy Moon get out of her Bunker. Along with that; prevent most of the accidents that made his villains. He could remember.. Connors. Connors and Doc Ock's.
He needed to work on his memory, dig deep.
Peter gave a sigh, and leapt back. He snuggled into his bed; yet another common factor with this universe. Mm.. Bed. Peter's eyes blinked once.. then twice… then.. they stayed shut, as he fell asleep.
He dreamed of other heroes, heroes he'd never seen or heard of before, fighting by their side. Romance, his love-life becoming incredibly complicated. He dreamed of saving an entire universe from one person. Being dusted.. living in Japan. Stopping "tall, dark, and ugly" from kicking him out of his turf.
Peter smiled in his sleep.
Elsewhere…
Tony Stark had an itch. The kind you can't scratch. The mental kind— The one centered around one Spider-Man.
He shows up out of nowhere, no history, no nothing. Then he's the second most popular superhero— Next to him. It wasn't even that he wanted to take him down a peg. No, no, Tony saw potential in this kid. Potential that he hoped- That he believed he could help bring out.
Tony smirked, leaning back in his chair in his room of Avengers Tower. There were some upgrades to his suit he could make, too. Spandex was great and all, but tech was where it was at.
Unknowingly like Peter, he found himself falling asleep. Soon, he began to dream of things he hadn't thought of before, people he hadn't seen or met. Sacrificing himself for life itself.
Hope.
Tony had a restful sleep, that night.
Jesus, I haven't updated this in a while. I need to get back on that. I hope you all enjoyed the introduction to Peter's school life. Trust me when I saw there will be a large cast of characters, but I'll do my best to write it well.
