I Got Reincarnated! - Kitsune Chronicles

~Chapter 1~ My Chance at a Second Chance!

It was a sunny and cloudless day, almost completely different then from the mood several people were feeling as they stood around watching a coffin be lowered down into the ground. There was many crying in grief for the lost loved one supposably but the three people closest to the casket, a young man, with his wife and young child, a young woman who stole glances at her expensive phone every few seconds and lastly was a middle-aged woman dressed in black slacks and a black t-shirt, looking out of place among all the well-dressed mourners with messy hair, blood shot eyes and dark bags under them.

She was not crying, just staring blankly at the coffin as it was laid to rest at the very bottom. No tears escaped their eyes as they seemed to be void of emotions from it all. It was a while before people started to leave and that left the three to talk, well the young man talked to the middle-aged woman who didn't respond or hear him… all she could hear was a drone out ringing as her brain couldn't comprehend the noise. The young man gave up and left with his wife and child, leaving the young lady and the middle-aged woman alone before the young woman got up to get to her car. The middle-aged woman was following her to the nice-looking car, there were still lots of other cars around and the young woman was gleefully focused on her phone, texting even as she stepped out from between the cars.

Someone was speeding down the strait path between all the cars, not caring about their speed or that a young woman had just walked out into the road before them… only the sound of a heavy body hitting their hood and windshield made them screech to a halt. The driver pissed and stepping out to yell at the middle-aged woman bleeding and broken on the street, a broken phone near her as the young woman that had been pulled from danger looked horrified at the broken and bloody phone.

It was in her last moments of consciousness did the middle-aged woman hear the words from the young woman she saved.

"My Phone! You better pay me back for this you, Bitch! This cost more than your life! Anna? Anna?!" the young woman screamed as she saw the eyes of the older woman fade away and give a startling death rattle as her last breath left her body.

'I'm scared… it's so cold… momma, I'm cold…' A small black fox kit whined as it wiggled among its 6 other siblings, all of whom had reddish orange coats, curled up in a small den among tree roots an orange momma fox came to them and curled around them to give them warmth and food as her kits latched onto her for their meal. The orange ones being bigger and stronger than the little black fox that blended in with the darkness of the fox den, only eventually the black kit found a place to suckle for nourishment.

Outside a handsome pure black fox stood guard over the den, cool blue eyes scanning for danger as his black tail had erased the tracks, he and his mate had left leading back to their den and their kits. The smell of humans was still far off but the smell of their hounds was getting far too close to his family. He stood on guard the whole night, intending to protect his mate and kits.

'Where am I?' the lone black fox kit wondered in confusion, looking around at the orange balls of fluff next to them. Then at the little flecks of light they could see off down a short tunnel of dirt. Curious and a bit bored, the little kit carefully moved its paws to crawl over to the entrance of the den. Quickly the smell of the forest caught their attention and made them move a little quicker to pop their little head out to see the big bright new world.

'Wow! This forest is huge!' the kit thought as they stumbled their way out of the den clumsily, taking in the smell and the site of emerald, green leaves high above their head with sun beams poking through. Golden eyes sparking in aw for what was above before looking down below. They were level with tree roots and even blades of grass! 'How can grass be this big? I'm not that tall but still.' It wondered before looking down at itself and yelping in shock.

'I'm a furry!' She thought as the little black fox kit scurried around to look at herself. 'I'm a fox?' she wondered as she looked at her black, white tipped tail what was just covered in soft poufy baby fur. Titling its head in confusion the sound of rustling grass caught her attention as two adult foxes approached her, the blue eyed black one giving her a stern glare while the orange one seemed to ignore her and go into the den. Ears lowered the confused kit tried to look small and pitiful to the large black male who only picked her up by the scruff and took her back into the den, setting her down among her already sucking siblings. The fox kit was confused as tears leaked form her eyes… she could almost understand the fox… as if he had said…

'Not yet my little kit.'

~A Month Later~

'Finally!' The Black fox kit yelped as she was the first to bounce out of the den that had been her home for the past few months, only to be run over by 6 orange siblings that where bigger and a little stronger than her. 'Oww! So mean!' she whined and got up to shake off the pain form her siblings, sending them a quick glare the black fox kit trotted up to the male black fox who held a dead rabbit in his jaws.

'Daddy!' she yipped happily, eager to get at some rabbit before her bigger siblings could. The black fox allowed this as he set it down and watched the small black ball of fur hungerly rip into the once cute creature. It almost seemed proud as he watched but also looked sad as the only black kit of the littler was so small and weak compared to her siblings. It wasn't long before the 6 orange fox kits noticed the rabbit and ran over to have their share, quickly the male fox pulled his smallest kit away to keep her from being trampled again.

'Thanks daddy!' the kit mewed as she watches her siblings gobble up the rabbit and naw on the bones, that was until their mother came back carrying a large bird to feed her kits. The small black kit stayed with her father as they went to a calm stream nearby for a drink. The kit took this time to see herself in the crystal-clear water's reflection.

Staring back at her was a mostly black fox kit with a white under belly and white on the tips of her ears and tail, her eyes where big and golden like the orange furred momma fox. Of course, her jaw was covered in rabbit blood for the moment, but she looked like a normal fox kit. 'Besides the blood. I make a cute little fox, and I even look a lot like daddy!' she giggled as she looked at the handsome black fox just drinking some water. She did the same and tried to wash off the blood from her fur, only her paws slipped as the river swept her up and almost carried her away.

If it were not for the quick reflexes of her father.

She was picked up by her scruff while passing by in the water and set on land under then stern gaze of the black male that also seemed concerned? 'Be careful little one, your too weak to fight the currents.' Seemed like what he was trying to say but the little kit was unsure if he was really saying this as it just seemed to pop into her head. A soothing yet strong male voice that made her feel safe. It only happened with the male fox and not her mother or siblings it seemed.

'Weird... am I just imaging things?' she questioned as the black fox was silent as it walked back to the den with his kit, his tail covering their tracks.

~~Hunting Lessons~~

'Idiots.' She couldn't help but think as she saw her bigger siblings try to catch a rabbit like their parents, the orange kits where still to small to hunt those speedy creatures, so she went to smaller and more abundant pray.

'GOT CHA!' She smirked as she tasted hot blood in her mouth, proud of herself as she trotted over to the black fox and showed him proudly what she had hunted all on her own. It was a rather fat vole and the male seemed pleased with her catch as he nudged it closer to her. 'Your kill, you eat.' Was what she thought he meant and happily started to eat the raw rodent. No longer caring about uncooked food or that it was a rodent she was eating.

'Not like there is a fast-food place or a kitchen I could use.' She mussed as she finished the vole off and watched her siblings try to take down the rabbit… only to have it taken down by their disappointed mother. She couldn't help but strut proudly as she had been the only one to catch anything on her own for their first time out hunting.

~~Leaving the Den~~

'I don't think I can do this.' The black fox kit thought as she was being snapped at by her mother, her other larger siblings already in the den behind her but…

'Momma? What's going on?' she questioned and for some reason along with the snarl she heard a woman's voice screech at her hatefully.

'GET OUT!'

Was yelled at her and it confused the black fox kit as it was getting dark and cold, she wanted to go to sleep with her mother and siblings where it was warm and soft sleeping on top of them all. The female fox lunged at her, aiming for one of her legs. She jumped back to avoid the attack, looking shocked and hurt at the action.

'Momma?' she questions and was a bit confused, the black male fox had left them a few days ago… and had not returned. It didn't help that she was the only black kit of the litter, and the only one being kept out of the den. 'Is this about papa? Because I look like him?' she asked, not thinking about getting a response as she female fox turned and went into the den with her other kits, two had popped their heads out, curious what was going on but went back inside with their mother.

Leaving the small black kit outside alone.

Holding back tears the young kit went to another tree a bit far off and started to dig. She didn't have to do it for long as she was small and made a small little den among the roots. It wasn't as warm as her old den, but it would do for the night. Falling asleep letting out her tears she made plans for what to do after being effectively banished from her family… again.

It seems like hours before the sound of hounds alerted the small fox, startled as they sounded extremely close. Poking her nose out, she sniffed the air and froze.

'Humans!' she though with fear of her former kind, worry washed over her as she feared they were out her to hunt… but what they were hunting she didn't know. She stayed hidden in her little den, becoming petrified as she saw a large dog paw step right Infront of her den, holding her breath for the moment as the dog sniffed but then left, not having smelled her thanks to the tricks she learned from her father. Only now the dogs barked in excitement as the caught the scent of something, chills sent down her spine as she saw an orange glow light up outside, and it didn't look like day light.

Poking her head out, her golden eyes observed her biggest fears, there was a fire in the direction of her old den. Without thinking the little fox darted out and over to the den. The humans had set fire to the tree that had protected her fox family. It was difficult to see faces but there was 5 humans and 3 dogs all going crazy as the tree blazed and there was panicked yelped from the den.

'They're still in there! Momma! Everyone!' she cried out in panic, her body acting on it own as she ran past the humans and dogs to the den.

'Get out! Your gonna burn alive!' she warned them and then jumped away quickly as the three dogs and be let loose and had lunged at her only to miss a bit each other. 'Oh fuck!' she though in panic and ran, the dogs on her tail running after her, zigging in and around the trees to try and keep them away, yet give her family a chance to escape. She could hear humans shouting behind her as she ran, only to realize they were still waiting for her family to come out. In a bold move, she turned around and ran past the stupid dogs and back to the den, where she saw a human with a sword about to bring it down on her mother.

'Momma!' she thought in panic as she lunged at the man and bit his hand that held the sword, making the human drop it in shock more than pain. "This Stupid little runt!" the man growled and easy pulled her off. "You're not even enough for a child's scarf." He hissed and tossed the black kit away in anger but that gave the fox mother an opening to attack, and for her other kits to escape.

Yelping in pain as her head had hit a tree, she was disorientated as she saw spots in her pain. Shaking it away she charged at the other men that were trying to catch her siblings. Biting and scratching at anything within her range, dodging their sack and hands easily as her coat blended in with the shadows, tricking their poor human vision. Only one got lucky and made her yelp in pain as she was pull up by her tail, freezing her as she looked into the face of her human capture, it burned into her mind as he suddenly dropped her in shock and sudden pain. She fell to the far away ground with and ungraceful thump, once on her feet she could see the human holding his bloody crotch… and her mother with blood in her jaws.

'Leave my kits alone!' Was what the mother was saying as she glared at the men who set her home ablaze and tried to capture and hurt her kits… only for the hounds to come bounding back and gang up on the mother fox. 'Momma!' she cried out and sent to bite at the dogs as well, getting them off her mother and running… nothing but running to give the female fox a better chance. The sun was coming up and it was harder for the little fox to hide as the shadows retreated into the night.

Then before she knew it the ground diapered under her frantic paws as she felt nothing but rushing wind around her tiny body, the sun rise reflecting in her golden eyes one more time before the tiny kit disappeared into the raging river below, her small black body disappearing into the waters.
