Chapter 62.

There was something so good about showing Bobby the room set aside for the baby and telling him about all their plans. Bobby didn't often show enthusiasm and anyone who didn't know him well might think that he was unimpressed, but Sam saw how his eyes twinkled as he took it all in.

"Across this wall," said Eileen, "Sarah's going to paint a beautiful summer scene. Here, we'll have the crib, with family pictures close by. Which reminds me, we need a good one of you."

"Not sure any picture with me in it is gonna be good." he said, "But what's mine is yours, always. Now, what about a monitoring system?"

"Well, I was thinking we could have a baby monitor by the crib." said Sam.

"Good idea, except Eileen won't hear it, will she? I was thinking more of a system where you have your standard monitor type thing and then another part, where a light flashes if the baby's crying."

"That's clever!" said Sam.

"Don't let the dress code fool you, I'm a clever guy." said Bobby.

"And I never meant to suggest otherwise." said Sam, "What do you think, Eileen?"

"I think anyone who speaks that many languages and has so much lore in his head has to be in the top five percent." she said.

"I mean about the idea." said Sam.

"It's from Bobby, so of course we'll do it." she said and Sam saw how her smile affected Bobby, who, just like Dean, had taken to her from the start. "I bet you have other great ideas." she said.

"I reckon I could come up with a few." he said, "I hope it goes without saying that I'm making the crib. Now that I'm fully corporeal again, I feel I need to get my hands back into real work."

"Great!" said Sam, "I can't think of anyone who would do a better job. On the subject of getting back into things, Dean probably won't want you involved in hunting too much. He's getting more protective by the day."

"Screw Dean. I'm a hunter, therefore I hunt. Dean may fuss like one, but he's not my mother."

"I understand.," said Sam, "But go easy on him. You know the stuff he's had to deal with in the past few years."

"And all his life before that." said Bobby, "Don't worry, I'll be firm on the hunting thing, but I won't do anything to hurt Dean. You know how much I love him. You know how much I love all of you."

"Yeah, we do." said Sam, "That's why it's awesome to have you back."

"We would have brought the baby to see you in Sioux Falls anyway," said Eileen, "But knowing we can have you here with us any time is just perfect."

"Speaking of perfect, this is a pretty neat ;little bunker you have here."

"It's not much," said Eileen, "But it's home."

"You wanna give me a proper tour?" said Bobby.

"We'd love to." said Sam, "I'm hoping you can come up with improvements."

"I'll do my best, but this place is a lot more elaborate than anything I was ever involved in."

"Well, that's why we need you." said Sam, "The stuff you MacGyvered up at Sioux Falls ... I can't wait to see what you can do here."

"From what I hear, you're very innovative yourself. Cas says you run this place like a ... "

"I don't," said Sam, "Dean runs the bunker. I just do the logistics."

"Cas definitely thinks you're in charge here."

"Cas is wrong. Dean's in charge here."

Bobby looked at him doubtfully. "What and you meekly take orders?"

"No, it's not like that."

"I'll bet."

"Come on," said Sam, "We'll show you around." As they headed off down the corridor, he said, "This place means a lot to Dean. It's important to him."

"And being needed to run it's also important to him." said Bobby.

Sam nodded, glad that Bobby understood. "Yeah, he needs to be needed here and I need him to know that he will always be in charge."

"You know, I think you worry too much about him."

"You just literally ditched Heaven because you're worried about him." said Sam.

"Yeah, because I wanna make sure he don't sabotage himself, but not because I think he's doing badly. The opposite, in fact. I think he has things pretty much figured out and I know how proud he is of you and the way you lead other hunters now."

"Yeah, I lead them, he leads me."

They reached the map table and Bobby ran a hand across the surface. "Now, this is impressive."

Sam smiled. "The Men Of Letters had their faults, but they set this place up with some great kit."

"Clearly. How does it work?"

"What we know of it, Charlie can explain better than I can." said Sam.

Bobby wandered around the room, checking out the machinery. "I bet Dean loves all this, his own private Bat Cave."

"That's actually what he called it when we discovered it." said Sam.

"Wait until you see the Dean Cave." said Eileen.

"Oh, that sounds good."

"I'd have to call it epic." said Sam, "Come on. It has a bar."

"I like it already." said Bobby.

In the Dean Cave, Sam showed Bobby every detail, the giant TV, the recliners, the juke box and Bobby took it all in. He circled, admiring all of it. Sam wished he had waited for Dean, because he would have loved to see Bobby so impressed.

"Pretty cool, huh?" said Eileen.

"Pretty frickin' amazing." Said Bobby.

"There used to be a strict, no girls rule," said Sam, "But with Mom and Eileen and Jules and Charlie, that all kinda fell apart."

"Does Anael get to share it?" said Bobby.

"Yeah. Anael has the run of the place now. At first, Dean forbade her to touch the Impala, today, they left in it."

"See what I mean? You don't need to worry about Dean. He's figuring stuff out. Can't be easy, when someone with every reason to hate angels falls in love with one, but he's managed to be friends with Cas all these years."

"I know you're right," said Sam, "She's good for him. He's actuakky starting to relax. He laughs."

"And he dates, apparently. When did Dean ever date anyone?"

"Not for a very long time." said Sam, "And maybe that's why I worry. This is such a big step for Dean and he'd given up on ever having anything like this. It wouldn't take much to make him give up on it."

"He was the same about you and Eileen, wasn't he? Worrying all the time that you'd back out because you thought you didn't deserve her?"

"I don't deserve her," said Sam, "But yeah. He supported our relationship the whole way. You saw how he was at our wedding. I just want to be that supportive for him."

"We both do." said Eileen,

"All my life," said Sam, I don't think he ever asked for anything for himself or expected it. Now, he has the chance of something good, something as good as what Eileen and I have. I want him to get the chance to enjoy it."

"I get it, believe me." said Bobby, "I feel the same way. If anyone deserves a happily ever after, it's him. How many times have you two saved the world now?"

"I lost count." said Sam.

"You know, I'm gonna love being fully back on Earth if I get to see you boys get everything you deserve."

"I just hope you never regret not staying longer with Karen."

"I love her and I always will, but things didn't work out." said Bobby.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" said Sam.

"Do I look like a thirteen year old girl?"

Eileen grinned. "You are just like Dean!"

"Nah, nobody is like Dean." said Bobby.
