Appearing inside the Leaf's academy was Jonathan. He was in his smoke form.
This form was one of the most covert forms a ninja could enter without ever being detected. Because it was a kekkei genkai, other kekkei genkai could hardly see through it. It would either have to be the byakugan, which could virtually detect anything, or a highly skilled sensory ninja. But why would either ninja choose to overtly activate their technique during a time of peace? Nonetheless, Jonathan wasn't willing to take the chance and made sure to check on who was always close by his surroundings.
In doing so, Jonathan safely found a small crevice to lodge himself in. This is what made being a transparent, smoke-like figure so advantageous. Jonathan could fit himself almost anywhere or hide behind almost anything without a single person being aware. And because the sharingan was not able to detect his chakra signature while in this form, he felt comfortable in the places he hid.
"And those are the teams," announced an academy instructor.
Jonathan reveled in the sight he was seeing. Itachi Uchiha had graduated early from the academy just as he needed him to. This was good. Very good. At least for Jonathan. Like he deduced, Izumi Uchiha was not present. Though she had the sharingan, she wasn't a generational talent like Itachi Uchiha. He himself hadn't even gained the sharingan yet and was still able to graduate early.
In confirming Itachi's early graduation, he was also able to confirm that he had been friends with Shisui Uchiha. Every event that happened by the book in this world gave Jonathan an idea of what would occur and what had likely already occurred.
Using his smoked technique, Jonathan traveled along the ceiling and made his way outside. He then traversed through the air until he safely made it home. It was dangerous, perhaps; but, Jonathan didn't travel close to the ground. He'd raise himself quickly into the sky where he couldn't be seen. It was as close to flying as he could get. Most people would enjoy having such an ability. But Jonathan was different. He had long since gotten used to the physics of this world. The longer he stayed here, the darker he became.
The Ramen shop was closed for the day. Jonathan sat at the kitchen table and waited to hear Teuchi's report.
"Good news, son. Because of your diet idea, profits have increased by over thirty percent!" Teuchi said joyfully.
'Thirty?' Jonathan thought, hands holding his chin. 'That's still not enough.' Jonathan had been monitoring Teuchi's ramen shop for awhile now. He needed an abundant amount of ryō in order for him to conduct real business in the Leaf. At least for the time being that is.
"Teuchi."
"Yes, my boy?"
"Go to the weapons shop and invest half of my assets there."
Jonathan was aware of most if not all of the shops in the Leaf. During times of peace, the weapons shop (or ninja tool shop) was hardly ever touched. But because of the nine-tail's attack last year, it was undergoing construction. A lot of ninjas devoted their time to training due to the death of their beloved fourth Hokage. But Jonathan couldn't invest in them even after their reconstruction because the ramen shop hadn't made enough money yet. Now was the time.
"You got it, my boy!" Teuchi agreed. Of course he agreed. He was under Jonathan's control and had been for some time. There was no way he could ever disagree.
In total, Jonathan had accumulated roughly five-hundred sixty thousand ryō. This amount of money may seem large, but it was only around thirty-nine thousand American dollars. Enough for some, but nowhere close to what Jonathan needed. Subtract Jonathan's own personal expenses, which weren't much to begin with, and he still had over five-hundred thousand ryō. Half of that was going to be invested in the weapon shop. By the time things like the Chūnin exams began and eager young children wishing to become ninja happened, the weapon shop's business would continue to flourish.
In case anyone gets suspicious as to why a mere restaurant owner was looking to invest in a ninja store, they couldn't. This was because Teuchi frequently visited their shop to buy items for Jonathan under the guise that they were for his daughter. Jonathan always planned ahead. Trivial matters like those would always be handled.
After giving the command to Teuchi, Jonathan evaporated into smoke. His next destination was the Uchiha clan district. After the nine-tail's attack they had all been relocated under Danzō Shimura's command. This act would only fuel their inevitable coup d'état. For a few days now, Jonathan had been coming to this area specifically for one person: Izumi Uchiha.
