Hey everyone! Welcome to chapter 30! This chapter had been a fun one to write. 5 more chapters to go before this one ends.
Enjoy!
"Sofie has a boy in her room," a 9-year-old Jack giggled, running up to his parents, to hug them.
"What do you mean Sofia has a boy in her room?" Zoe asked, placing the bags of groceries on the kitchen counter.
"They kiss like you kiss daddy," he shared, running off to the living room, hearing the theme song of his favorite show playing.
"Did you know that she has a boyfriend?" Wade asked, looking at his wife.
"No," Zoe sighed, shaking her head. "She never said anything about liking a boy," she told her husband, heading upstairs, letting Wade put their groceries away, so that way things Wade has to say doesn't come back to bite him because of his anger.
"You're going to have to tell your parents about us," a whispered teen male voice said. Zoe found herself nodding at the suggestion of her daughter's boyfriend.
"I will, but we're not going to get caught, we still have a while before they're going to be home," Sofia said.
Zoe snorted, knowing the surprise her daughter is going to get. Sofia's bedroom door is wide open. When voices couldn't be heard any longer, Zoe stepped in the doorway, seeing her daughter in a liplock with a boy she's seen plenty around town.
"Have you found his tonsils yet?" Zoe asked, a smirk toying at the corner of her lips, seeing her daughter jump away from her boyfriend in a hurry. "Tell your boyfriend goodbye, and meet us in the living room," Zoe told her daughter, leaving the teens alone.
"Was our son telling the truth?" Wade asked, hoping that Jack was lying about Sofia having a boy in her room while they were gone. He wouldn't have minded if they were home. But they were gone and she was supposed to be watching her little brother, not fooling around with a boy in her room. And the fact Sofia is sneaking around with a boy, it makes him think she's hiding something.
"Like you wouldn't believe," Zoe told him, entering the living room and switching the TV off, to the protest of her son. "Jack, I need you to go play in your room," she heavily suggested to her son. Sighing Jack took off to his room.
"I don't see what the big deal is," Sofia said, entering the living room at the same time Jack took off to his room. "I'm 15, I'm allowed to have a boyfriend!" Sofia huffed in annoyance.
"I didn't say you couldn't have a boyfriend," Zoe told her daughter calmly. "We're saying that you can't have a boy in your room when you're supposed to be watching your brother," she stated.
"Or when we're gone," Wade tacked on. He was lost on what to say, as this was new territory for them. He had his moments as a teen, but he can say that he was never caught with a girl in his room. Zoe was the only girl he ever let into his room.
"The big deal is that you had a boy in your room without asking if you could have a friend over," Zoe stated, looking at her daughter.
"You wouldn't care if it was Ally or Brooke, so I don't understand why the massive freakout," Sofia sighed, falling into a chair, looking at Wade wanting to have someone on her side.
"There's a huge difference between it being your friends and a guy you were making out with," Wade told her, informing her that he is on Zoe's side in this and that he doesn't feel comfortable with her having her boyfriend in her room, not fully knowing what they were doing.
"We were kissing, what's the harm in that?" Sofia asked, shaking her head.
"Nothing, it's what else you could be doing," Zoe stated, sitting on the edge of the couch.
"Give me a break nothing else was going to happen," Sofia told her parents, rolling her eyes.
"IT could," Zoe said emphasizing it. "Asking to have him over when we're home would have been the right thing to do, not going behind our backs."
"Give me a break," Sofia sighed, rolling her eyes. "Give me a credit, the door was open and I wasn't going to do anything I wasn't ready for while watching my baby brother," she told them annoyed that they couldn't trust her.
"We can't be so sure about that," Zoe told her daughter. "You're not allowed to have any friends over until further notice," she informed her daughter. "Straight home after school until further notice as well," she told Sofia. "No phone, until I can trust you, again," Zoe tacked on, holding her hand out for Sofia's cell phone.
"How's that fair?" Sofia yelled, jumping up from the couch. "All I did was have a friend in my room!"
"A friend you were happily kissing, thinking you would get away with it," Wade pointed out. "You will invite him over for dinner one night so we can get to know this boyfriend of yours," he stated.
"Is that all?" Sofia asked, ready to be elsewhere, her phone firmly in her mom's hand.
"Yes," Zoe told her, not letting her go far. "I'll be up shortly to get your computer and tablet," she called after her daughter, as she rushed up the stairs to her room.
"Do you think we were too tough on her?" Zoe asked her husband, curling into his side.
"No," Wade told her. "It would have been different if she would have asked to have him over," he said, rubbing her shoulder. "She went behind our backs, expecting to get away with having her boyfriend in her room."
"I think it's time to figure out the best plan for her to go on birth control, I want her to be safe, in case more happens with any boy," Zoe sighed, not even wanting to think about her daughter being at the age to be kissing boys let alone anything more.
"That's a smart idea," Wade agreed.
"I'm going to go call George, so that way he knows what Sof's punishment is so that way he can be on the same page," she informed her husband, sharing a quick kiss with him.
"I'm going to take Jack to the park and we'll bring dinner home," he informed his wife.
"Okay," Zoe nodded. That would give her the perfect chance to talk with her daughter about birth control, while they were the only ones home.
What she didn't want was to calm George down about the whole ordeal, telling him that he can make whatever rules he wants for when she is at his house. He did agree to keep her from her phone and other electronics until he gets word that Zoe has given them back to her, he still wasn't sure that he would be ready to give them back to her when Zoe did. She wasted a few minutes after hanging up with George before heading to her daughter's room, wanting to give Sofia time to calm down.
"What else are you going to take away from me?" Sofia asked, dropping her book to her bed, seeing her mom outside her bedroom.
"Nothing sweetie," Zoe said, entering her daughter's room, pulling out the desk chair. "Why didn't you tell me that you had a boyfriend?" She asked her daughter.
"I don't know," she sighed. "I guess I didn't want you to freak out over me having my first boyfriend," she shared.
"I wouldn't have freaked out about it," she told her daughter.
"I was going to tell you, I didn't want you to find out the way you did," she told her mom. "I wasn't trying to hide my relationship from you. It just happened that way," Sofia shrugged.
"We'd like to meet your boyfriend and get to know the boy you're so smitten with," she shared with her daughter.
"I can do that," Sofia nodded. "Does this mean I'm going to miss the school dance next week?" She asked her mom.
"We'll see what happens this week and next week," she let her daughter know. "I'm going to make an appointment and we're going to find the best birth control for you to go on, it's to protect you, Sofia. I don't want you to be a teen mom," she explained to her daughter.
"I don't want that either," she told her mom. "I wouldn't just have sex because it's what he wants," she shared with her mom. "I guess it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to be safe from something like that," she nodded.
"I want you to have all the protection that you need to be safe from everything that comes with having a sexual relationship," she told her daughter. "Invite our boyfriend over for dinner any day that he is available to make it when you see him tomorrow morning for your morning makeout session before school starts," she teased her daughter, pushing the desk chair back in.
"MOM!" Sofia screeched, her face turning a bright red color from blushing.
"What?" Zoe asked, laughing. "If you're like me, it's what you do," she laughed, leaving her embarrassed daughter alone.
Zoe took to cleaning up the house while she waited on her son and husband to get home. There wasn't a whole lot to clean up, so when she was done with everything, she grabbed a book and settled in on the couch to read while a soft melody flittered through the lower level of the house.
"Mommy look," Jack said, running into the living room to show Zoe his arm, wrapped up in a sling.
"What happened?" Zoe asked, smiling at her son, her eyes slicing through Wade.
"He thought he was a ninja and jumped off the slide, which I told him not to do," Wade pointed out, getting a sheepish look from his son. "He landed wrong and broke his arm," he explained. "He goes back in a few days to get a hard cast," he said, taking a seat on the couch next to his wife.
"A red one," Jack said, sitting on his mom's lap.
"A red one?" Zoe asked, kissing the top of her son's head. Jack nodded, it is his favorite color after all. "Let's find something to watch while daddy gets dinner," Zoe said.
"Mac N' Cheese," Jack said, curling into his mom's side, as she turned the tv on to find a show or movie for Jack to watch.
Between finding her daughter alone in her room with her boyfriend and her son having a broken arm, she's happy the day is winding down and nothing else can happen. The end of the day can't come fast enough for her.
"Can you please not embarrass me any more than you already have?" Sofia asked with a pleading tone, helping her mom get the table set for dinner. Her boyfriend called saying he would be here shortly, as he only lives a few blocks over.
"Sweetie you've been caught with your tongue down his throat, there's not much more that can be said or done to embarrass you," Zoe told her daughter. "If you can make it out alive tonight, just think you'll be prepared for when you have to bring him around to your dad's house," she pointed out.
"Don't remind me," Sofia groaned. "Did you talk to dad about what he could ask over dinner?" She asked, taking a seat on a stool.
"Nope, because no topic of conversation is off the table," she informed her daughter. "I know having your boyfriend over for dinner is a daunting task," she shared with her daughter. "I had to do the same thing when I was dating Graham, it won't be as bad as you think it will be," she assured her daughter.
"Yeah, but did Grandpa Harley catch you kissing him?" Sofia asked.
"Nope, can't say I was ever caught doing something I shouldn't have with any boy for that matter," she told her daughter.
"Sometimes I swear you never did anything wrong when you were my age," Sofia groaned.
"Oh don't let her lie to you," Wade said, entering the house from the backyard. "Your mom did a lot of things she shouldn't have," he smirked, kissing his wife's temple as he walked by her to get some seasoning for the steaks he's grilling. "I know because I was there with her, helping her along the way," he laughed, heading back outside.
"Like what?" Sofia asked, looking at her mom.
"Not happening," Zoe laughed. "Go let your boyfriend in," she told her daughter, hearing the knock on the door.
"Mom, this is Adam," Sofia introduced entering the kitchen. "Adam this my mom," she said.
"It's nice to officially meet you, Adam," Zoe smiled, wiping her hands clean to shake his hand.
"It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Kinsella," he smiled, shaking her hand. He didn't know if he should have addressed her as Mrs or Doctor Kinsella.
"It's Zoe," she told him. "Go let your dad know," she told her daughter. Sighing Sofia lead her boyfriend through the house to the back door. Zoe heard Jack yell for Adam, to show off his red cast.
"Adam we'll start easy," Wade said, scrapping the cut-up pieces of steak onto his son's plate. Wade ignored Sofia's groan. "What is it you want to do with your life?" He asked.
"Once I graduate high school, I will be going to college to be a dentist," he easily answered. It's what his dad and uncle do, and he's wanted to be a dentist since he was little, as he got older, his dream of being a dentist remained. "Once my schooling is over with, I will be moving home to take over the dentist office, as my dad will be getting ready to retire by the time I finish schooling."
"Impressive," Zoe nodded. By the time she was 15, she knew what she wanted to do with her life as well. "What I want to know is what your intentions are concerning my daughter, because I don't appreciate coming home to find you in her room when she is supposed to be watching her brother," Zoe stated, a bit an edge to her voice.
"I'm sorry about that," Adam apologized. "Honestly, I don't know what's going to happen with us at any point in the future, all I know is that I really like Sofia and I wanted to be with her. I respect her and respect what she wants or doesn't want. Everything that happens in our relationship is going to be what she wants as well. It's not just my relationship, it's hers as well," he explained, smiling at Sofia.
"Someone studied up on what needs to be said to woo the parents over," Wade teased, swallowing his bite of food. "Jokes aside, it's what any parent wants to hear and it's something we're going to hold you to over the course of your relationship with our daughter," he stated. "How long has this secret relationship been going on for?" He asked, looking from Adam to Sofia.
"A month," Sofia sighed. "I wasn't sure of things, and when we were caught in my room, we were supposed to be talking about things between us and telling our parents about us being a couple," she confessed. "I didn't want Jack to overhear things and spoil everything."
"I think it would have been better if he did," Zoe commented, taking a drink of her wine. "But, we can move on from that," Zoe nodded. "I want to know how you two met each other."
"Through school, mom," Sofia sighed, rolling her eyes.
"We met in the library when our classes had a study session, and we sat at the same table, and it just progressed from there," he told them. As they didn't have any classes together and his family had only moved to town 6 months ago, he was still meeting people. His friend group and Sofia's group of friends weren't the same group of people. He likes to study and Sofia is a cheerleader.
From there conversation flowed easily, Zoe and Wade giving Sofia permission to go to the dance with Adam, now that they've met the boy she's crazy about. Phones and other things are still being kept from her for the time being. After dinner, Sofia and Adam hung out in the backyard, where they could have a bit of privacy, yet still, Wade and Zoe could keep an eye on them.
