Hey, happy Monday everyone!
Enjoy!
"How'd the test go?" Wade asked, looking up from where he was doing a bit of yard work in the front yard, seeing his son and wife pulling into the driveway. Jack being the wheel.
"Got it!" Exclaimed a very happy 16-year-old, as he got out of the driver's seat. He had thought about saying he failed his driver's test to throw his dad off, but the smile on his face wouldn't leave.
"That's my boy," Wade smiled, hugging his son. "Congrats," he told him, letting his son go. His own smile stayed firmly in place.
"Does that mean I get my car now?" He asked, looking between his parents.
Ever since he was 15 and got his permit, his mom and dad had talked to him about a car. They agreed to help him pay for a car. They would double whatever he could save up for a car. Unlike Sofia, he didn't have a lot of extra time to work. He needed to spend any extra time he could studying as school wasn't easy for him. Plus he had football practice, and he doesn't want anyone to take over his quarterback position. Wanting a decent car, he easily caved in letting his parents help him buy a car.
"You mean the one in the garage?" Wade asked his son, his smile turning into a smirk.
"What?" Jack asked, looking confused as to what his dad was saying. He hadn't handed over his money. He thought they were going to wait until he had his driver's license before they were going to go pick out a car. He had talked to his dad about the kind of car he wants, but he wasn't set on anything until he had the chance to really look.
"Use your money on gas and other car maintenance," Zoe told him, pushing the button to open the garage door.
"Is this why I haven't been allowed to enter the garage?" Jack asked, taking a look at the car that sat in the garage. It wasn't what he wanted or what he was expecting, but he liked the car. It was an older car, but he could count on it to be reliable, as he knows his parents wouldn't give him a car that would break down halfway between Bluebell and Mobile.
"Yes," Wade nodded. "I fixed it all up for you," he told his son. "I know it's not what you were thinking of, but I couldn't pass up the chance to fix this old beaut up for you. It gave me a lot of memories," he shared, casting a look over at Zoe, who shook her head, as a few of those memories didn't include her.
"Wait, this is your old car?" Jack asked, looking to his dad. "Did you clean the seats at least?" He asked, slightly joking with his dad, but being dead serious at the same time.
"Everything has been cleaned," Zoe informed him.
"Here are the keys," Wade told him dangling the keys out in front of him, for Jack to grab. "Yes, go on and let your friends know," he told his son, a knowing smirk on Jack's face, ready to ask that exact question.
"You don't have to tell me twice," Jack smirked, pulling the door open to slide into the driver's seat.
"Be careful, and don't be on your phone when driving," Zoe stated, being every bit the protective mother that she is.
"I'll be careful, and my phone won't leave my pocket," he informed his parents. "And I will call if I'm going to be late," he let them know, shutting the door. He made a show of putting his seatbelt on before starting the car. With the mirrors adjusted, he backed out of the garage, bypassing his mom's car. He didn't go far when he parked on the street, heading up the path to knock on Kelly's front door.
"He's going to be fine," Wade told his wife, sharing a quick kiss with her. He didn't want to get her covered in dirt.
"I know, it's more about him growing up than anything else," she sighed, heading to the front door. "Sofia is going to be here in the next hour or so," she informed her husband, heading inside to freshen up Sofia's childhood bedroom.
Sofia didn't find it ideal to be returning home at 22 years old. She wouldn't be living with her parents and her younger brother for very long. Every day she was going to be looking for a place to live within Bluebell. Her job was covered, she made sure she had that before, she made the choice to move home. She's going to be the new manager of Fancies.
Having both her kids home again, filled Zoe with immense joy. She's missed having her daughter around. She knows Sofia isn't going to be living with them for long, but she won't be hours away, just a few minutes away. Zoe knows what it feels like to be forced to move back in with your parents, as she had done just that when she moved back to Bluebell. As much as she wanted her daughter to live with them for as long as possible, she's already gone ahead and got the small listing of places that are available for rent or to buy in town. Sofia may be 22-years-old, but she will do what she can to help her out.
"This isn't what I thought it would be like having both kids home," Zoe sighed, rubbing some lotion into her hands and arms as they got ready for bed.
"You didn't expect them to both be out doing their own things, you mean?" Wade asked, tossing the blankets on the bed back to crawl into bed.
"You don't have to rub it in," Zoe stated, casting a look over her shoulder at her husband. That is what she meant.
"Sof hasn't been home to spend time with her friends in Bluebell in such a long time, it's hard to say if she'll even make it home tonight, and Jack has the freedom he's wanted for the past year, he's going to be fine," he assured his wife.
"I know, but I can't help but worry about them just a little," Zoe stated, climbing under the covers, moving to the center of the bed, to curl up into her husband's side, placing a kiss on his chest.
"Look on the bright side, with both kids out doing their own things, it gives us all the alone time we could want," Wade smirked, placing kisses along her neck. Zoe couldn't argue with that, running a hand down his back.
