Hey everyone! Happy Thursday! I hope everyone is having a good day! There is one more chapter left and it will be posted tomorrow.
Enjoy!
"Why are you mad at me?" Wade asked, glancing over at his wife, who is sitting in the passenger seat of the car as Wade drives them to the restaurant for their dinner, not that Zoe knows that or what he has planned for them.
"Who said anything about me being mad at you?" She asked her husband, turning to look at him, raising an eyebrow.
"Maybe it's the fact you haven't said anything, you always have something to say, and yet you've only talked when prompted to do so," he pointed out, stopping at a red light.
"I'm not mad," she said. "It's been a long day," she stated, shrugging her shoulders.
"Zoe, I'm not going to try to force you to tell me anything, haven't we outgrown that phase of our relationship?" He asked, waiting for the cars in front of him to go when the light turned green. Technically they outgrew that part of their relationship when they were teens, when they had got together as adults they were honest with each other and no one had to force the other to tell them anything.
"I don't have anything to say and I don't want to fight over anything," she stated. "I had a long day, and I would have rather spent our anniversary at home, and not out on the town," she told him, being honest. It's the same thing she had told him at home.
She woke up early to make him breakfast, but he had beaten her to it. At lunch, he showed up with a dozen roses. He basically ambushed her when she got home from work, something she doesn't do a whole lot of anymore, she's just filling in every so often. She loves being a doctor, it's a part of who she is. He's been the best husband all day, heck he's been the best husband for the last 17 years. A quiet night in, with him and Jack if he would have been there, instead of over at a friend's house would have been perfect for her.
"I get that, I do," Wade sighed, pulling into a restaurant that had opened the week prior, Zoe had been making comments about trying their food out. He pulled a few strings for them to get the reservations for their anniversary. "I don't care how we spend our anniversaries." Which is true, they've gone a few times, spent many anniversaries as a family. This year felt like they deserved to go out and celebrate them making it to 17 years of being married.
"I know," Zoe nodded, unbuckling her seatbelt. "And maybe dinner out won't be a horrible affair," she teased. "I appreciate you and everything you do and have done for our family over the last 17 years plus," she told him, leaning over the center console of the car to share a kiss with her husband.
"I wouldn't mind trying," Wade smirked, breaking the kiss, Zoe rubbing off a bit of her lipstick from his lips with her thumb. "But I think we've grown past the stage of doing things in the car," he winked.
"We wouldn't want you to throw your back out," Zoe tossed out, pushing her door open.
"Hey, that's low, I am only a few months older than you," he stated, catching up to her.
"Still older," Zoe laughed, opening the door of the restaurant for her husband to enter first.
"You're just jealous of my youthful glow," he teased, flashing her smirk, entering the restaurant before her.
Laughing Zoe followed behind Wade. In a matter of seconds, Wade let Zoe walk ahead of him slightly, where he could place his hand on her lower back as they walked through the semi-busy restaurant to their table.
Like other times that one or the other didn't want to go out and do something, but doing so to give the other person the night they want without ruining the night for the person they love. Fun conversation turned Zoe's mood around about being out to dinner with her husband after 17 years of being married. Often times it felt like they were together longer, given their pasts. The delicious food helped make the night better as well.
"I know we said we weren't doing gifts this year," Wade said, slipping from the bed, tossing her a saucy wink over his shoulder, while he padded across the bedroom in nothing more than his birthday suit.
"We say that every year," Zoe retorted, pulling the drawer on her nightstand open to grab his small gift out.
"Go ahead and open yours first," Wade told her, climbing back under his half of the covers.
"If I must," Zoe teased, switching presents with her husband.
Wade rolled his eyes, a very Zoe patented move. He smiled watching her flip the lid of the box open to reveal the two gold heart pendants entwined together on their sides, the tops of the hearts were adorned by 9 diamonds.
"It's stunning," she told him, flipping the hearts over to see 'Wade + Zoe = 17 amazing years' Her thumb traced the engraved words. "I love you," she whispered, leaning into his space to share a kiss with her best friend, her husband.
"Love you," he told her, breaking the kiss. "May I open this now?" He asked, holding up his small gift box. Zoe nodded. "How'd you know?" He asked, tossing the lid of the box off to reveal a black leather wallet. His current one is in need of the trash can, barely holding together. "17 of the best years has been spent with you. Here's to the future of forever," he said reading the engraved inscription on the back of the wallet. "The best forever in the world," he smirked, moving the presents out of the way. "Wouldn't you say?" He asked, pulling her underneath him.
"Most definitely," Zoe nodded, biting her bottom lip, reaching up to run her fingers along his bare chest. "Care to show me just how pleasurable the years really have been?" She asked with a small purr.
"What kind of question is that?" Wade asked, nipping at her collarbone. "I'll show you that and some," he smirked.
