[Castle Leoch: 12 Days Later]
Bella was exhausted by the time they got back to Castle Leoch. It was a long and hard journey. She was nervous about appearing in front of Collum again. She wasn't supposed to return, but it was obvious things changed.
"Yer worried," Murtagh said as he walked beside her. Jamie had gone ahead with Dougal to explain the situation, deliver the rents and hopefully make sure Collum wouldn't do anything drastic.
Bella looked at Murtagh. "Is it that obvious?"
"Aye." Murtagh said and sighed. "Listen lass, Dougal and Jamie will handle Collum. He's a fair man and a man of honor. He won't let the red coats march in here and take ya."
Bella smiled a little at Murtagh. "Thank you. I know that you don't know me that well but-"
"But ya love Jamie. That is all that matters to me. To see him happy, truly happy, after he has lost so much…" Murtagh said and nodded. "That is what matters the most." He said and patted her on her back before leading her to her room at the castle. Dougal had instructed her to take her there and for her to stay put until him or Jamie came back.
Bella was happy to be back there again. Her room at the castle was nice. There was a fireplace in her room that Murtagh walked over and started fiddling with. Bella took her bag off and laid it on her bed, she unfastened her cloak and laid it on the bed as well. She looked around her room again like she had her first time here. She thought she would never see the inside of these walls again, but here she was. She glanced over when Murtagh got the fire started in the fireplace and smiled at him. "Thank you."
Murtagh nodded. "Of course. I'll be outside lass. Ye should change into fresh clothes, freshen up a bit." He said and left the room.
Bella worked at getting her clothes off. It was a long journey for her and so she happily took the garments off. That was something she missed from the twenty-first century. Zippers. After she changed out of her clothes, she stood by the fire to warm up a bit before she started getting dressed again. Tying her own corset was a challenge, but she managed to do well before there was a knock on the door. "Come in." She called, and Jamie walked in. She smiled at him. "Jamie." She nearly breathed.
Jamie smiled, shutting the door behind him and walked over to her. "Everything is okay. Collum understands. He had a distaste for how the Captain treated ya and well, he's inclined to offer his protection, like we assumed on our journey. Yer safe here at the castle. If red coats come, then we have to be hidden, but otherwise, ye can move really around Castle Leoch." He announced.
Bella's face lit up, relief washing over her as she leaned in against him and kissed him hard. The clothes that she had worked hard to put on, were suddenly being taken off again, as they undressed each other before ending up on the bed together. She giggled under him as his mouth suckled at her throat and collarbone, his hands roaming over her body.
Jamie paused to look down at her. "God, I love ya so much." He said, before kissing her again, getting a moan out of her and then he was plunging into her, his cock large, filling her up tight. He laced his fingers with hers before pushing them over her head, the passion like a blinding fury between them.
Bella's eyes felt drunk with the love and passion they shared as they mated. She had no thoughts, only Jamie and how much she loved him, how silly that must seem after only knowing him for a short time. But he was her everything. She felt herself crack open and she washed around him, moaning against his mouth as she did. Jamie groaned, thrusted into her hard and deep a few times as he emptied himself in her. His seed, layering her, coating her insides, until he stopped, his breathing heavy from the exertion. He rested his forehead to hers, before he rolled in the bed next to her, pulling her into his arms and blankets. She rested her head on his chest and listened to the drumming of his heart, as it settled in his chest. They were quiet, just enjoying each other until he spoke.
"We have to be careful." Jamie said. "Now, more than ever. I can't lose ya, Bella." He murmured, kissing the top of her head.
Bella leaned up to look at him. "We will and you won't. We will get through Captain Randall… somehow." And she meant it.
[Three Days Later]
Bella hummed a little as she sketched in her sketchpad. She was in her room. She spent time outside her room learning more Scottish ways. She would come back to her room and she wrote about it in her notebook. Jamie was busy helping with the horses. He spent a lot of time there since Collum had him doing most of a stable hand's job. She missed him during the long days, but at night, he would come to her and be with her in their bed. Everything between them was magical.
There was a knock on her door and she got up, closing her sketchpad and popping it into a drawer in a side table, and went to open it. She found Jasper standing there in front of her. "What in the world?" She said quickly and then pulled him inside, shutting the door behind him. "Does Collum know you're snooping around the castle?"
"I assure you, that I am sneakier than I appear. Look, no red coat." Jasper said, holding his arms out and turning. "I slipped by unnoticed. I promise that no one knows I'm here. Even Edward. He's back in Inverness. I traveled by myself here."
"Okay. Why are you alone? What about your sister?"
"She'll be fine." Jasper said. "I'm here to talk about Captain Randall."
"I told you what he tried to do in the woods."
"I know… he's a monster." Jasper agreed. "He… he uh. My sister wasn't as fortunate to escape him. She was roughed up by him, mostly and he took her purity and-"
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry." Bella said with a gasp, her hand going to her mouth. "That's awful.
Jasper's honey eyes settled on hers and he nodded. "Thank you. She's moved past it now. Her son is strong and the only thing that she cares about that came from it."
"Wait… that's why you won't leave…."
Jasper nodded. "We don't know if we can leave with Caleb with us. Which is why he's being raised the way he is. He knows the truth."
"He's so young."
"He is, but he understands and is smarter than most would think of a five year old. One day, I hope you'll meet him, but for now, I want you to understand. This time period is dangerous. It will only get more dangerous for you the longer you are here."
Bella sighed. "But Jamie. I'm not leaving him. The English and the Scots are going to have a war. In three years. The Battle of Culloden. People will die, Scottish people and the end of the clans will be the result of that battle. Jamie fights in that battle and he loses his life. I can't let him die. Not like that."
Jasper swallowed. "History can't be changed, Bella. Trust me. I've tried."
"Well, is your mother a genius historian and expert in Scottish history?"
Jasper raised a brow. "Your mum is a historian?"
"Yes, and that's what I am studying to be too. So, let me try." Bella said and then looked him over. "Tell me more of your story. You said you were military before coming to Scotland."
Jasper nodded as he walked over to the fire. He stared into the hot coals and sighed. "I was in the British Navy. I was on leave with my sister. Her boyfriend traveled a lot. Photography. I decided to not want to be alone for the holidays, so I went with her. Our parents died when we were seniors in high school. So, we only had each other. We're technically twins."
"And no one thinks it's weird you're 'husband and wife'?"
"No. We're fraternal twins, just because we're both blonde, doesn't mean we would be related. She looks more like our mum and I like my father." Jasper said and looked over at her. "I want to protect her in all of this. Captain Randall believes he has me pinned because he took from my wife. He is a sick and sadistic bastard and I want to bring him down or kill him. Both are treason and punishable by death, but at this point… who cares."
Bella shook her head. "What about Edward? Is he really that loyal to you?"
Jasper blew out a breath. "I believe so. I've known Edward since he was a boy. He's only seventeen. Still a boy, though in these times, he's been a man, so we'll call him that." He paused. "I will try everything in my power to make sure that I protect you Bella. Edward knows nothing of our time travels and I will keep it that way. The less he knows, the better."
"You don't have to protect me Jasper. It's risky for you and your sister… your nephew. It wouldn't be fair for me to ask you to do something like this."
"You're not asking me." Jasper said. "I'm volunteering." He said and then walked back over to her, setting his hands on her shoulders. "I know you don't know me well, but trust me."
Bella nodded. Oddly she did trust Jasper. He made her feel better, more at ease at what was going on, so she trusted him. "Okay. So, now what?"
Jasper blew out a breath. "Captain Randall will be in these parts in about a week or so. I would assume he would come into the castle because, as you know, the English occupy Scotland. Now, anyone who isn't hospitable is instantly a threat to the crown, and you know what happens with that."
Bella understood. "So, hide when he's around. Got it."
"I will, get myself on his detail. At this point, it's been six years. Captain Randall thinks that I won't cross him or he'll hurt my wife. I will make sure I keep an eye on him. I will send Edward to warn you and-"
The door opened and Jamie walked in, stopping to see Jasper alone with Bella. He felt angry inside, but he didn't say anything, just shut the door, his hand on his sword on his hip, but he looked at Jasper. "There better be an explanation for why yer alone in a room with my wife."
Jasper blew out a breath. "Well, yes. There is an explanation. I'm not here to harm her." He said and put his hands up, like he was surrendering.
"Jamie, he's telling the truth. He's not here to hurt me."
Jamie studied Jasper. He didn't trust any red coat and it killed him that he had to leave Bella alone with him even for a moment back outside Inverness. "No, but he's here, in secret, in our room, with you." He said, his voice firm, a look of fire in his eyes.
Bella put herself between Jasper and Jamie. "Jamie, listen. Nothing is going on with me and Jasper. Look at me." She said softly.
Jamie's blue eyes went to hers, reading the expression on her face. "What am I supposed to think with ye sleuthing around with him." He said, motioning to Jasper. "I'm yer husband."
"I know and I'm your wife! Why would you think any less of me? How could you not trust me? After telling you everything about me?" Bella said, in disbelief.
Jasper looked to Bella. "Wait, you've told him?"
"Aye, she tells me everything." Jamie nearly spat at Jasper and looked back at her. "I do trust you. Bella, I love you and trust you, it's him I don't trust."
"I'm from 2010." Jasper said, blowing out a breath. "Listen, Jamie, I'm like her, trapped in a time I'm not meant to be in. Captain Randall raped my sister and I want to see him burn for what he did to her. We're on the same side. I only want to help. I am not making any passes at your wife. I would never. Not a married woman." Jasper said, his hands up.
Jamie's brows knitted together and he looked at Bella. "What? Is this true?"
"Yes. That's what we were talking about. He was telling me about his sister and nephew. He came here to warn me that Captain Randall will be traveling these parts in about a week."
"And I'm going to be with him. I will send Edward ahead, to warn you both that he's nearing the castle, for you both to hide. Stay out of sight and when he finishes his travels, he'll be on his way back to Inverness." Jasper said. "Can I put my hands down now. I really am not going to hurt anyone here."
Jamie looked at Bella and then back at Jasper. "Aye. Put yer hands down. I'm sorry for… assuming."
Jasper nodded and put his hands down. He looked at Bella. "I must leave. I have to return to Doune. It's a couple days from here, but that is where Randall will be at first. I am to meet his party there. I'll give you word when he's near. I'm sorry for the trouble." He said and looked at Jamie. "I will protect her. I promise you that." He said and then extended a hand.
Jamie looked at it then he clasped it firmly in his and nodded. "Thank you." He said and then they parted, Jasper slipping out, like he had coming in.
Bella ran a hand through her hair. "He's never going to stop looking for me. I put everyone in this castle in danger."
Jamie went to Bella, running his hands down her arms, while kissing her forehead. "It's going to be okay." He murmured and then Bella folded into his arms. He held her there, in silence, as he took in all the information Jasper just laid on him. He believed he would protect Bella. He saw the fire in his eyes, the same one he had. He wanted to kill Randall for what he did to his sister, so for now, Jamie would trust Jasper.
