Bella ran, her legs tired from running, but she didn't have a choice. Jamie had forced her to run and she hoped that he would be okay. She wanted to cry, wanted to scream and just fall apart, but she had to stay strong. She had to stay strong for Jamie. The moon was high in the sky now and the impending winter air was harsh on her lungs as she ran. It was harder to run when you had several pounds of clothing weighing you down. But she ran as hard as she could. She heard a gunshot and it made her stop short. She looked behind her. "Jamie!" She cried out, wanting to go back, but when she tried, hands grabbed her. "Let go of me! Let-"
"Shhhh. Lass, it's me." Murtagh said quickly. "Stop squirming."
Bella stopped and looked at Murtagh, her dark eyes wide with shock, tears floating in the corners. "Murtagh! You have to go and help Jamie, Randall is- "
"I know and he sent me to get ye. I'm taking ye to safety."
"What, no! We have to go and help him. I heard a gunshot."
"Jamie can handle himself lass, now come on. Be quiet and stay close." Murtagh said quickly. "Trust me."
Bella bit her lip, glancing back behind her before she looked at Murtagh. Leave it to Jamie to force her to do something like this. She closed her eyes and nodded, a tear sliding down her cheek, but she wiped it away, before she followed Murtagh into the night.
[2 Days Later]
A week passed without a word from Jasper and then suddenly Randall was at Castle Leoch. Collum had no choice but to let him pass onto Mackenzie land. Edward had been late getting the word to Bella, but it was enough time for Bella to get out in the very least. He would protect her at all costs. When Randall found him, he redirected his focus. Luring him outside. It meant his capture, but Bella's freedom. Now, he was chained, in a cell. He knew that this was it. He would never see Bella again. He hoped that Murtagh would get her to safety in time. That she wouldn't be stubborn and just stay out of sight. He was a lost cause from the start. He shouldn't have been so selfish with her. He wanted to love, wanted to have a life, but the weight of Captain Randall was too much to bear.
He heard footsteps hit the cool cobblestone floor and then the metal gate to his cell swing open. There was Randall, before him. He had a guard close the gate behind him and leave them alone.
"I admire your tenacious attempts at escaping me." Randall said.
"Well, in the eyes of England I am a villain, though I know my truth. It's what kept me sharp."
"Ah, but you failed. I have caught you." Randall said and he walked towards Jamie. His dark hair was pulled back on his neck and his dark eyes studied Jamie. Curious as to how he was so defiant, so full of fire after many attempts at breaking him. "You know I will find your wife. Bella was it? Imagine my surprise when I got word that you married the tramp."
"You keep her name out of yer mouth." Jamie spat. "Yer the monster here."
Randall smiled, a cool, snake-like smile. "Am I?" He said, pausing, stopping before Jamie. He reached a hand up, his cool hand touching Jamie's face. He held it there as he studied him. He inhaled his scent. The sweat and blood mixed with the iron from his shackles. "It won't be long until I find her… and have my way with her." He crooned at Jamie.
Jamie growled, pulling against the iron. "Ya leave her alone."
Randall chuckled, patting Jamie's face. "Commendable really. She's a girl, foreign in your country, yet you fell for her? Jamie, I thought you knew better than that." He tsked.
"Ye have me. No need to drag her into anything. She did nothing to ya. I'm the fugitive."
"True, though she did say some rather, hurtful things. I tried to take advantage of her. Hmmm…." Randall said and then he turned away from Jamie, walking back over to a small table with two chairs. He sat, looking over at Jamie. He was shirtless, the scars on his back barely visible in the dim lighting, but he knew they were there. He had put them there. He remembered the day he lashed Jamie. He remembered how the whip felt as the leather tasted Jamie's skin. The metallic smell of his blood as it oozed from his wounds. The power it gave him when he brought the whip around with each and every lick. It fueled him in many ways, but the erotic pleasure he took from invading Jamie's body. But Jamie didn't break. He had stayed strong and took the beating. He was strong and Randall wanted that. He yearned for that torturous pleasure that only he knew. His demons that he kept to himself. Jamie's body had been a playground for him and it was a shame it had ended so. He needed to taste Jamie's flesh again, in more ways than just one. He closed his eyes, remembering, he groaned a little, feeling the rise of his cock as he thought about the sadistic pleasure. He opened his eyes and stared at Jamie. It was like two pieces of coal staring at him. "Tell you what. I'll pardon Bella, make her a free woman, but only… only if you give yourself to me." He said and stood, walking over to Jamie, stopping before him.
Jamie looked at Randall, his brows furrowed in hatred and confusion. "What do ye want. To lash me again? Beat me until I take my last breath?" He spat. "You've beat me before, I can take it again."
Randall reached up grabbing Jamie's face again, holding his jaw in his hand as he leaned in, inhaling again, his mouth close to Jamie's ear. "That's not the beating I want to give you Jamie. I want you to let me… do whatever…. I want, with you." He whispered, before his mouth tasted the salty skin at the angle of his jaw.
Jamie pulled back; his eyes wide as he realized what it was Randall wanted. He was far more nefarious than he anticipated. It was something that made him feel ill. He wanted to vomit, but he kept himself calm, even when he shook a little.
"I'll give you time to think about- "
"I do this… and Bella… ye leave her alone. Ye give me yer word." Jamie said, his blue eyes tearing up, reddening too.
Randall tilted his head, nodding. "You have my word Jamie, that I will clear her name and let her go free. But you give, yourself to me."
Jamie swallowed, but then he nodded, feeling the repulsion rise again. "Okay." He conceded.
Randall was a little shocked. The love that he clearly had for his wife was evident and it made him even that much more curious about him. He reached up, untying his neckbow and advanced on Jamie.
Jamie was still, closing his eyes, his body shaking as he felt Randall's hands move over him.
"We've got to get him back!" Bella insisted defiantly while looking at Dougal. "It's your fault that we were even in those woods. You said it would be safer outside the walls than inside with Randall coming to visit the castle."
Dougal stared Bella down. "I was trying to protect him. How was I supposed to know that Randall would have men waiting in the woods? He's got him now. I don't know where to even start looking for him."
Bella perched her hands on her hips. "You should be ashamed of yourself. Jamie is your family and you're doing nothing to even start looking for him. Randall obviously took him back to the closet city. He's only been missing a day."
Dougal hadn't thought about that, but he shook his head. "I'm not going after him lass. It's too big a risk and the Mackenzie name can only take us so far."
"Fine. If you're not going to do anything about it, then I will." She said and marched away from Dougal. Her heart was hurting with Jamie gone. Randall would kill him. That much, she knew. Jamie was a fugitive and wanted for murdering a man. A crime he didn't commit, but it was easy for a man like Randall to pin the blame on someone. Especially a Scot.
Murtagh followed Bella out, not saying a word to Dougal. He caught up to Bella, grabbing her arm gently. "Lass, stop for a moment." He said, his voice gentle.
Bella stopped, sighing. "Murtagh, I'm going after my husband, with or without you. Either you help me find Jamie and bring him back home or let me go. Collum and Dougal won't care. What am I to them anyways?"
"Yer more than what ya think lass. Collum is a fair man. He'll figure out a way to get Jamie back."
"It'll be too late. Murtagh, they'll kill him. You know it." She said, her dark eyes staring back at Murtagh's equally dark eyes.
Murtagh sighed. "Alright. Let me talk to some of the other guys. Give me a couple hours at most and if it's just me and ye, then it's the two of us."
Bella relaxed now that Murtagh was willing to see her way and help her. "Okay. Thank you." She said and then she left, going outside to the stables. She needed to be away from the castle for now and she needed to just gather her thoughts.
When she got to the stables, they were empty. Just her and the horses. She knew that Jamie loved coming here to just be in his own thoughts and she was soon finding out that horses did make great companions. They never talked back to you or argued. She went to one of the horses and stroked it's face softly. It was a magnificent beast. She always thought so, even in her own time. But somehow being in the eighteenth century, she viewed horses a different way. She heard a noise and that made her turn her attention away from the horse. She was on alert. She moved, grabbing a pitchfork and wielded it like a sword as she walked slowly through the stables.
She nearly took Jasper's head off with the pitchfork, but his reflexes were faster than hers and he stopped her from knocking him over.
"It's just me." Jasper said, alarmed at being swung at with a pitchfork.
"Jesus Jasper, you scared the hell out of me." Bella said, putting the pitchfork down. "What are you doing here? Dougal's men can find you here."
"I know, but I wanted to tell you that Randall has Jamie in Doune. He'll likely he there for a while, until he moves him back to Inverness. If you're going to jailbreak him, nighttime will be the best." Jasper explained.
Bella nodded. "I plan on it. Murtagh went to talk to some of the men, see if we can't gather some helpers in springing him. I'll go get Jamie back, with or without anyone's help. But it will make it easier with it."
"I'll leave a door unlocked. You'll be able to slip in and out without too much trouble. I'll have to distract the Captain, then you and your friends can get him out. Afterwards, it will be safer for you and Jamie to leave Scotland. Go to France. That is your best option. At least in France, you won't have the threat of Randall. I have a cousin that can get you a spot on the ship that is set to leave port in a week's time. Go to the port, I'll give you a scroll. Give him that scroll."
"Cousin?"
Jasper smiled. "Fellow time traveler. Though, we're cousins in this time."
Bella nodded. "Got it. Then what?"
"Then once in France, he'll arrange for you to go to court. King Louis is a tad bit… weird, but trust me, you'll be safer there." Jasper said. "Now, I have to make it back to Doune, so this is the last you'll see of me until I get you the scroll."
Bella nodded. "Thank you Jasper…."
Jasper smiled at her and nodded before slipping back into the darkness and leaving her alone there in the stables.
Bella blew out a breath. She hoped that she could get Jamie back without anyone getting hurt. She waited for Murtagh now, pacing in the stables as her mind ran what felt like hundred miles per hour.
