RWBY-The Recidivist: Chapter 1 (Original Version Released the 6th of September, 2013)
(Disclaimer is below the page!)
Dedicated to Monty Oum (1981-2015)
Important Notice (11/27/2019)- If you remembered that I had over 75 Chapters and noticed they were all gone today, then this is a notice about why they're all gone. After all the years of hard work writing those down, I decided to just restart the entire story from the beginning. However, the plot my old readers remembered will remain the same. Just heavily reworked. I have the old chapters, but it's archived in my computer now. For those who want to see them, I'll find a way to show it soon.
Act 1 (Chapters 1-25) was all written back in 2013 and 2014, Act 2 (Chapters 26-50) from 2014-2015, and Act 3-4 *Partial* (Chapters 51-78) from 2016-2018. My reasons for restarting this story was because of how outdated the early chapters were. I decided not to let people wait for the rewritten chapters being released individually while soon coming across the old ones, where the chapters don't connect. Maybe this can be easier for new readers to not be confused to which chapters are rewritten or not.
To my old readers that stuck with me since 2013: Thank you for all the support you've given me. A lot of you might not be here to see this, but just remember that your favorites and follows along with your comments and PMs really helped me get this far. If you've left this story due to my lack of updates, or naturally got over it, I understand.
To my new readers: Welcome. Your enjoyment of the story will only be determined by you. Hope it goes well.
(Full Summary)
"A Shadow that has followed us for so long."
As curiosity kicks into Ruby after an unusual arrival of a new student to Beacon Academy, she discovers he goes by the name "Wyvern" while unexpectedly knowing other secrets she wasn't supposed to know. In fact, it's secrets that are considered to be held strictly under the orders of Ozpin himself, along with his inner circle.
After getting too deep into the situation, Ruby and her friends are put into an unsung war against a "Recidivist" that has been proven to be a more greater threat than anything across Remnant; more than Salem, according to Ozpin.
From here, Ruby will begin to learn more about this battle that sacrificed many, this "Recidivist", an ancient clandestine order, and even her own bloodline as a silver-eyed being. Will she succeed on adapting to this new world problem? Or is it just a start to her own doom?
For Wyvern, he has no choice but to ensure Ruby, along with her friends, will stay alive to see the end of this hideous conflict. Hoping it'll be a happy one...
(Reasons for Mature Rating)
-Blood: Most fight scenes with Grimm or other characters will contain blood.
-Violence: It isn't RWBY if there isn't any violence, right?
-Moderate Sexual Content: Not to the point where it's a smut. Just some elements that are best to read when alone. Note: I have standards. Don't think I'll make it reach up to the extreme cases, if you know what I'm talking about.
-Controversial Actions/Brutality: This story won't hesitate to try and show the realities of a harsh world. If there needs to be a bad guy, he/she needs to do BAD things.
Act I-Beginning
A shady foreigner has attended Beacon for unknown reasons, according to some students – except for a few of the staff and instructors close to Headmaster Ozpin himself. Curiously, Ruby Rose and her friends try to find out who he really is and discover his true intentions of coming to Beacon. However, they soon realize why everything about him was kept secret and discover some other sinister information that all of humanity doesn't know about, except for a selected amount of people. Not even all of the Academies and official Hunters/Huntresses around Remnant are aware of it. A new enemy and a planned catastrophe that is bound to happen next…
Chapter 1: Welcome to Beacon.
Let's face it. The new ones ALWAYS get the attention.
-(Onboard a Vale Airlines Airship, Present Day)-
(Unknown POV)
"In the name of my body, baptized from the fires and ashes, erase the corruption of our home.
When the four seasons pass, where Grimm blood continues to spill, wield it with your blade, with each death worse than the last.
Make all of them pay, for all the nameless graves.
When the innocent pray and cry, ALL the corrupted must die."
I opened my eyes slowly as the glare of sunlight was facing directly into my face from the window. Looking outside, it seems like the flight wasn't over yet. We were still in cloud level altitude as the seatbelt sign inside the cabin wasn't yet lit up. I let out a huge sigh as I remembered a few things during my in-flight sleep.
Another one of those strange dreams…. Makes me wonder what keeps making me dream something like that. In short, the dream involves myself being lectured by some strange voice I have never once heard in my life. Surrounded by blackness with the energy in my body that is equivalent to rage, the voice continues to talk to me as if it was directly lectured towards me. I have had my fill of bizarre dreams, but these kinds take the cake as one of the most bizarre ones. Yes, this has happened multiple times and I am still unsure to why this keeps happening. But it doesn't really matter at the moment. I realized I was too deep into the thought and noticed the seatbelt sign of the cabin was lighting up.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are now approaching our descent into Vale International Airport. Please remain seated and keep your seat belts fastened until landing is completed. Your safety is our top priority during this process. We would also like to personally welcome you to the Kingdom of Vale, where it houses the hunter and huntress training grounds of Beacon Academy, the famous Charles Faucon Statue, The Central Remnant Stock Exchange, Midnight Square, The Crescent River, and much more landmarks that we recommend you would check out in our brochures. Thank you for flying Vale Airways!"
After listening to the flight attendant's speech about notifying all passengers onboard the civilian airship, I did as she instructed and looked out the window to see we were descending deeper towards the clouds. Throughout most of the flight when I was awake, I looked outside the window instead of looking at the small television in front of me. There was honestly nothing new to watch onboard the flight as I've already seen most of the films, including the recent ones. I couldn't talk to anybody else too because I was in the First-Class sector of the flight with nobody sitting next to me. It was luxurious and nice, but the downside was that it can often times feel lonely. Call this cliché, but I'm familiar with this sort of feeling, usually.
While we were still in our descent phase, I remembered that I need to make a video log entry for my parents to see as soon I land at Vale City. I took out my phone and began to look at myself before I began to record.
Black hair, fair skin, blue aqua eye on the right, left eye covered by an eye patch, modified armor sets on my body with gadgets and ammunition, my two twin scimitars with the names on the hilts titled 'Dragon Tails', and my short cloak that's used to hide my gear on my body. Still the same as usual. I was able to wear and take my equipment with me during the flight because of my teacher and my parents. They made sure security, along with the other employees, to make me get passed all the check ins. How? Let's just say they're in a high position of where I come from.
I cleared my throat and began to speak to the camera.
"Personal log: Arrival at Vale Kingdom." I began, "After my departure from home, I've already grown a bit homesick as soon as the airship began its take off from the skies above Doraegon. First of all: Mom, Dad, I really appreciate you two for allowing me to do this. Although I'm away from the mainland, I'm sure you two can take some time off while I'm away. Right now, you two should focus on the Drahën Empire without me causing too much trouble."
While I was speaking, I gave a warm smile to the camera in order to show how 'excited' I was about leaving Doraegon, the mainland of The Drahën Empire. To put it short, the Drahën Empire is considered one of the most isolated and independent places in Remnant due to reasons I'm not supposed to spill to others. Although travelers arrive there as a form of tourism to some of the cities and landscapes, they rarely hear anything else about the detailed economy, business, and even the military. Mysterious as it sounds, it's an absolutely peaceful place run under a constitutional monarchy rule. That's what I miss. Something I'm familiar with and call it home.
"Without the help of Master Ostanes before his passing, I probably wouldn't be here - having a great opportunity of heading to the Kingdom of Vale. I'll be sure to visit his grave in the weekend once I get back home. I can't forget about that man who made me who I am along with you two. However, I'm still curious to why he had to send me over to Vale to attend this academy I've heard about. Beacon, was it? All he told me was 'it's a part of your training'. Well, who am I to judge? Maybe I really do need it." I chuckled and sighed. "I'll make another log as soon as I arrive at Beacon. Mom, Dad, I love you two."
"Mister…Wyvern?" A flight attendant called as I turned my head to see her holding a glass of water. "My apologies for the interruption. But I have the water you requested." She gave a warm smile.
"Thank you." I smiled back and looked back at the camera. "I'll continue this later." I stopped recording and began to drink the water that I was given.
My name is Wyvern Akua Kumawaka. Don't say that quickly five times. Although I was trained thoroughly by a man named Ostanes, I will become a student in Beacon Academy for reasons even I am not aware of. My parents and Ostanes, before he died, have recommended that my time in Beacon is mandatory at some time when I reach seventeen years of age. And I already am that age ever since. As much as I tried to get more information out of this, they refused to tell me everything. But I just couldn't argue with my parents and my master back then.
After twenty minutes of waiting on the airship, we finally touched down at Vale International without any complications during landing. Before I could unbuckle my seatbelt, the door on the opposite side of the main cabin door opened, which was unusual after landing unless there was an emergency. My curiosity was answered when I saw a man in a full exosuit walk inside as he scanned the rows of first-class. When his gaze through his visor landed on me, he lifted his hand gestured it to come over to him. All passengers stared at me suspiciously as I gulped nervously, completely unaware of what was going on while I was getting the attention. I unbuckled my seatbelt and grabbed my one carryon bag to immediately get out of the cabin to avoid the stares. I had to keep my head down now since I'm away from my home.
I stepped outside to finally feel the breeze of fresh air while following the suited man to a Bullhead that had Beacon Academy's crest near the cockpit.
"I'm guessing you're-"
"Indeed I am." The man said with some enthusiasm in his voice behind the helmet. "I was told by Ozpin to pick you up as soon as the ship landed. Understandable, since your arrival is urgent."
"Are you one of the instructors there?" I asked while getting inside the Bullhead craft. "I never really had a chance to meet you."
"Professor Isaac Yagn Nao. But I prefer others, including my students, to call me Professor Isaac." He took off his helmet to reveal he still looked young as he was probably in his late twenties. Fade haircut with brown hair on the top, orange eyes, fair-ivory skin tone, and a strange cybernetic tattoo with some strange pattern of lines and circles that plays like connect the dots. "If you want, just call me by my first name. It's no big deal."
"Got it." I nodded as I felt the aircraft touch off the ground and fly to the direction to the east, where Beacon Academy sits quietly on the cliffside away from the city. "So, how did you become a Professor at such a younger age?"
"That's kind of a secret, but I suppose I can leak some information about it." Isaac smiled. "I may be twenty-nine, but there's not really an age limit for becoming an instructor in the academy. You just need to graduate and go through a specific type of training until you get an approval from the Headmaster of Beacon. This is my second year of teaching, and Professor Ozpin has been really impressed by my effectiveness. Or that's my bias speaking. But he hasn't put me on probation or fired me yet. So, that's a good thing." He laughed.
"Do you like your job?"
"I sure as hell do." He nodded without hesitating, showing how much he was a proud instructor. "Nothing makes me more satisfied than lecturing students and making sure they'll become an outstanding set of Hunters."
"But what if they become Hunters and go to the wrong side? Like the White Fang?"
"Believe me. There are some Hunters that go after those kinds of people." Isaac told me with a stern expression. "Has Master Ostanes ever told you abou-"
*RING! RING!*
Isaac stopped his sentence and immediately took out his scroll to see who was calling him. Looking at the screen, he chuckled a bit and answered the call with a small smile. "I'm sorry. But the number you are trying to reach is unavailable. Please-"
"Is that so? Then why did you answer this call so quickly?" A female voice sighed from the annoyance of Isaac's prank. "Do you have him onboard?"
"Relax, Glynda. I have Wyvern onboard already. We're en route to Beacon and our arrival will probably take about five minutes or so."
Glynda? I do recall that name. Glynda Goodwitch is one of the Professors in Beacon that actually was involved with the negotiation regarding my mysterious transfer to Beacon by Ostanes. From what I remember, I did remember her giving me some cold stares as if she saw me as a potential threat. The suspicion was understandable, considering being a Hunter/Huntress makes you a potential target for anybody that either hates you, or has other reasons whether personally or politically. Wait a second, if I was going to Beacon to become a Hunter, wouldn't that also make me an open target?! What the hell was Ostanes thinking…?
"I told you to contact me as soon as you were flying to Vale International. Did you even receive any of my calls?"
"Oh…sorry. My scroll was on silent." Isaac chuckled.
"Do us all a favor and take this matter seriously." Glynda huffed. "Ostanes wanted to make sure everything goes smoothly and I can't risk anybody to drop the ball on this one."
Isaac nodded to himself and sighed, still having the smile on his face. "Not surprised you would be taking your part seriously."
"It's a huge responsibility. Don't think I have time to slack off as soon as Wyvern's arrival is set."
"I understand. But you need to at least lay off a bit. He's not a child anymore."
"I'll take your concern in mind. Bring Wyvern with you and meet me in Ozpin's office as soon as you arrive on campus. Goodbye."
"Understood." Isaac hung up and looked at me. "That woman really needs to relax, but she takes her job a bit seriously when it comes to…these sort of top priority tasks."
With him mentioning that, it started to get me curious on what was specifically going on with Professor Goodwitch. "So, what did you mean she will do her job seriously in this 'top priority task'?"
Isaac snickered a bit. "Your Master, Ostanes, has basically proposed that Glynda should be your…advisor. She is to watch over your progress, provide any assistance you need during your time in Beacon, ensure your safety and concern in your environment, have the necessary essentials requisitioned by your parents, and all that sort of thing."
I stared at him a bit while trying to understand what he meant. As soon as it hit me, I just stared at him nervously. "So, she's basically my-"
"Babysitter."
I sighed. "Not the word I was about to use, but I suppose I can see how the term 'babysitter' can work with it too." My face turned red a bit as I shook my head at the thought of being supervised. "Why though? I know I'm supposed to keep my head down for a while, but is it really necessary to make Glynda my…advisor?"
"According to what I heard from Ozpin, our Headmaster, it was all from Ostanes' orders."
"So, he really doesn't trust me." I shielded my face in embarrassment.
Isaac chuckled a bit and patted my head. "It wasn't like that. Ostanes just wanted to make sure you're being taken care of after his passing."
"Seems like he still sees me as a child though, even in death."
"You technically are though." He mumbled.
"I heard that."
He shrugged his shoulders. "But I digress. Believe me, she may not be mother material, please don't tell her I said that, but, Glynda will most definitely take care of you."
As I slowly began to accept this offer, I still rolled my eyes from how unnecessary this was. "You putting it that way sounds like I'll have my diaper changed by her as soon as I get there."
"Wow. Thanks for the mental image, Wyvern." Isaac awkwardly looked away.
"Great. Now it got me thinking about it." I cringed.
"Me three." The pilot said.
With that awkward moment between all of us fortunately passing by quickly, it only took a few minutes until the aircraft finally arrived near the landing pads in the front the cobblestone path, directly in front of Beacon Academy. Professor Isaac and I held onto our seats just in case of any unexpected complications of landing. When it finally touched down, Isaac got off his seat immediately as the pilot finished examining his landing and turned off the Bullhead.
After getting off my seat, I stretched and followed Isaac out of the cabin. Due to landing pads being on the cliffside, the strong gust of wind rushed inside the cabin and almost made me lose my balance. Grabbing onto the handle above and slowly hopping out after Isaac, I shut the door and looked at the Professor.
He was stretching from quick ride and noticed that all students were on currently outside due to lunchbreak. "My god…I can really use some lunch right about now."
I chuckled by his loud growl from his stomach. "Doesn't Professor Goodwitch need you in the office ASAP?"
"She can wait. How am I supposed to work correctly with an empty stomach?"
"There's so many students here…" I looked around with paranoia forming in my chest. "Isaac, don't you think you should've dropped me off somewhere more…secretive?"
"I'm afraid these were the only landing pads we have." He told me while pointing at them in front of the outer campus. "Even if you wanted to get dropped off somewhere else, or literally drop you out of the aircraft, a certain woman would probably give me a beating. I swear to God, her riding crop hurts more than a swipe from an Ursa."
"Can't you come with, please?" I asked politely. Well, mostly begged.
"Don't worry. No one will notice you that easily."
Taking his words to heart, I gained the confidence and began to approach Beacon in the middle pathway. It was probably not the best idea because students who were walking past me gave me curious stares due to me not wearing the dress code. Students who were not wearing the academy uniform were clearly viewed as either 'tourists' or new students. The closer I got to the fantastic architecture of Beacon, it was when more than enough eyes were staring at me. A whispering comment from a Faunus girl with rabbit ears and brown hair (no pun intended with 'hare' and 'hair') was having a chat with some other girl with sunglasses and a beret. All I could make out from her comment was her curiosity regarding my left eye, covered by an eyepatch. The other stared curiously, making me even more uncomfortable. I picked up the pace of my walking to go in closer to the academy, praying that not many students were in there.
"For God's sake…" I groaned quietly to see the inner campus was even more packed. It was quite stupid of me to even think going at the inner campus would be much better. "Maybe there's another way for me to head to the main office…" I said to myself and began to improvise my own path to the Headmaster's office that had less students.
Powerwalking down each hall, I eventually came to a dead end where four girls in dress code were approaching me. I could only make out what they looked like: One with short black/slight dark red hair and silver eyes, the second with a snow white ponytail with light-blue eyes, the third with long black hair and a strange bow with catlike yellow eyes, and the last with messy golden hair with lilac eyes. Something tells me those four were going to be the most curious students that will talk to me without hesitating. In a slight panic, I looked around the hall and only saw one window of escaping. Not literally a window. The Library.
"The Library! Nobody ever goes in there!" I muttered to myself and dashed inside quickly enough for them to not notice me.
As I expected, the library was quiet and lacked the large number of students inside while the few in here were occupied with either reading, studying, or using the computer. I headed to the emptiest aisle and leaned against one of the shelves.
I let out a sigh of relief. "No one will notice you that easily." I mockingly mimicked Isaac's words and rubbed my temples. "Mark my words. Professor Goodwitch is going to turn into Professor Bad-Witch when she finds out I'm unsupervised."
Before I was able to enjoy the peace and quiet of the library, I heard the entrance door open as it was the only noise being caused throughout the place. I peeked at the end of the aisle shelf to see who it was and just had a feeling it would be one of the girls I tried to hide from. It was that girl with black hair and a bow on top of her head.
"It'll just be a quick checkup. Most likely will take less than two minutes."
"Make it quick, Blake. I'm starving and I don't want to miss today's special."
Blake? That's an interesting name I haven't heard in a while…
"If there was fish on the special, I probably would be out in thirty seconds."
"There is fish though."
"Nice try." Blake rolled her eyes and shut the door quietly.
I saw her approach the side of the library where I was located. I grabbed the first book next to me and discreetly moved down each aisle at a time from where she couldn't see me until I finally reached the last one. The book I grabbed was a way of blending in to try and avoid any conversation from the other students, including her.
This 'Blake' girl turned towards the aisle I once stood and directly looked at the spot of the shelf I leaned on. She froze immediately as if she was under the impression that someone was spying on her. Well, okay, I was technically spying on her. But I could tell she was shocked just by her body language.
Blake looked around with a panicked expression. "Oh god…where did it go?!" She bit her lip nervously before beginning a thorough search across the aisle to the next.
I gulped hard as she was beginning her search. At this moment, I was in a slight panic again and attempted to find a place to hide. However, I could tell I didn't have enough time and decided to stand there, hiding my face with the random book I picked up on the first aisle. As soon as she reached my aisle, I froze. Hoping she would leave for a few seconds, she didn't.
Blake gulped loudly and sighed. "Excuse me?"
With her calling, I decided to stay quiet and pretend that I was reading the book. I shut my eyes to concentrate on staying calm than doing anything else.
"Hello?"
Still remained silent.
"Hey. Are you listening to me?"
I lowered the book down and sighed, having no other choice but to confront her. Her yellow catlike eyes stared at me cleanly as she patiently waited for an explanation. "Sorry. I thought you were talking to somebody else." My words came out of my mouth before I looked around to see I was the only one in the aisle. Stupid me. "Did you need something?"
"Well, yeah. I was looking for a book and…do you even realize what you're reading?" She pointed out.
"Huh?" I stared at her confusingly, but then looked at the wording inside the book because she was pointing at it.
With each touch of his fingers running across my skin, my voice and sighs of ecstasy was released for my love to hear. The smile he gave me encouraged me more to continue to let it out comfortably.
"Remember, you're my one and only sweetheart. I still question why you shroud yourself under those clothes."
"You know the code of honors for my clan. Compromising yourself is unacceptable." I jolted as I felt his hands snake up towards my chest.
"That doesn't mean a shadow warrior like you should keep your skin shielded. It makes my mind and heart race while growing curious."
….wait a minute….
'WHAT THE HELL AM I READING?!' Was the question in my head that I almost blurted out. I stared at the pages in utter shock and immediately shut the book, showing me the title in the front side.
"Ninjas of Love Volume 6"
At that moment, I prayed that this book was clean! I literally put my face closely in front of the pages and God knows what I was paranoid about! I didn't know what was more shocking. The fact that THIS was in Beacon's library, or that there were five other volumes!
In order to get rid of the awkward silence, I spoke first by asking, "Is…this your book?"
"Yes…I mean, no!" Blake quickly denied while shaking her head, blushing.
"Is that so?" I reluctantly opened the book to see if there was someone's name in one of the front blank pages. I found one that said: "Blake Belladonna." I said out loud.
"W-Who's that?" She tried to act as if it wasn't her.
I looked up at her confusingly, still aware that 'Blake' was her real name. "Isn't that your name?"
"No. It's not."
"Ooookay. Then what is your name?"
"….Bl-…Blair….Belle….Yeah. Blair Belle." She clearly lied about her identity.
"She's just going to keep playing this game, isn't she?" I muttered and came up with an idea to make her admit the truth.
Blake cleared her throat and nodded. "I assure you; my name isn't Blake and that isn't my book."
"You're right. My apologies for slandering for read smutty fiction and that this was yours. Perhaps I should give this to the librarian to report that I've discovered this book of inappropriate material." I smiled.
She stared directly at me without blinking and gulped. "Excuse me…?"
I repeated my intention. "I'm giving this book to the librarian."
"N-No. Listen, how about I do that for you?"
"Why?"
"Because…."
"Because what?"
"You see…."
"See what?" I continued along as I tried to stop myself from smirking.
Blake seemed to have collected her thoughts before huffing, and cleared her throat. "Because judging by you not wearing the school dress code, you're probably a new student here and I expect that you have to be somewhere instead of slacking off."
I sighed a bit and finally showed my smile. "It's best not to mention it to everyone, but you're right on the money. On the other hand, if you do that, I promise I won't tell anybody. Just admit this is your book."
"It's not!"
"Then I'll just give it to the librarian." I turned by back on her and powerwalked to the front desk.
"No, you don't!"
Suddenly, Blake tackled me as she was desperately trying to reach for the book. She hissed and didn't care how much harm was being given to me as her top priority was the smutty novel I questioned. I tried to counter her attacks to contain her aggressiveness and prevent more attention from the students in the library. Nothing was working and I didn't dare to harm her because she was a student and I was afraid it'll effect my chances of staying in Beacon.
"Oi! That's enough!" I told her.
"Give me that book!" She hissed and left a small scratch on my cheek.
"Okay, fine! Here!" I gave the book and ran away from her as quickly as possible. She tried to stop me, but it was too late for scolding or an apology. My main focus was getting to the exit as I approached it.
"What's taking her so long?" I heard a voice asked behind the door.
Before I could stop, it was too late. I breached the door and startled the same three girls that were accompanying their friend that found me inside the library. I wasn't able to stop to apologize because of my panic. After dashing right past them and hid myself down the two-way halls, I heard one of them say something in a rather annoyed tone.
"I swear, the boys here need to learn some proper manners." The white-haired girl sighed.
"I suppose learning can be pretty scary for some people." The short red and black-haired girl joked. "Blake? Are you okay? Did you see that weird guy that just ran out? He wasn't wearing the uniform or anything."
The door of the library shut as I could hear Blake panting. "I'm fine. I encountered him inside the library and…it's complicated." She said after being able to catch her breath. "He's a new student, apparently. Not sure why he was in the library instead of in Ozpin's office. It's urgent for new students to report to him as soon as possible."
"Arriving in Beacon after all the first-year student's initiations? That's weird. Why did he come here this far late?"
"Probably has good reasons for having a late attendance. Who knows? Probably on hold or some other complications like family or living somewhere outside of Vale."
"Now that you mention it, he seemed foreign too."
"And kinda cute." The golden-haired girl admitted.
"Girls, before you all start gossiping about that guy, could we go get lunch now? I just want to get this done with before the line gets longer. The quicker we get our meals, the better." The white-haired girl reminded them and led the three down the hall in the opposite way.
Weird? Cute? That's an odd first impression from one of the few students here.
Remembering that I had to continue on my search, I walked down the hall carefully in order to make sure I don't make the same mistake of nearly bumping into someone. I followed the directions of the signs as it pointed me to the Headmaster's Office. Before I made the last turn down the hall, it led me to an atrium where it was crowded with a few of the academy's staff. Unlike the students, they were paying more attention on their work from their papers, books, or tablets instead of taking notice on me. Scanning the area, I finally found the arrow that continued to guide me, directing me to go inside an elevator. Pressing the call button and immediately having the elevator open, I headed inside and pressed the top floor that had Beacon's emblem on it. It was only a fifteen second long ride up as the doors opened to show me yet another huge door.
As soon as I walked off the elevator, it seemed like I was in the waiting room as chairs, coffee tables, and an empty front desk was all there was in here. Two window walls giving off the light and the gut-wrenching height, I didn't have time to enjoy the view as my main priority was getting on the other side of that huge door.
"Professor Goodwitch?" I knocked on the door to the office.
Nobody answered.
"Hello?" I continued to knock. "Excuse me~? Professor Glynda Goodwitch, are you in there? It's me, Wyvern."
As soon as I stated my name to her, I heard the sound of footsteps coming to the door as if she was about to open it. But the door didn't open, leaving me confused.
"Professor?" I knocked again.
"Behind you."
I jumped as soon as I felt something snake across my back, resulting me to slam against the door. To add insult to injury, the door opened from the push and I fell on my bottom to see Goodwitch staring at me blankly with that riding crop on her right hand and an electronic scroll on her left arm. Again, I made a fool of myself. Plus, that landing hurt my bottom, but that's not really the issue after being startled. "Where did you come from?"
"I saw you get in the elevator while I was present in the main lobby. Expected you would notice me there." Goodwitch folded her arms. "And surely you would've detected me from your instincts. Hasn't your Master taught you about aura even before my small lectures?"
"Sometimes, the lack of sleep can get to you when you have to fly to a foreign kingdom without knowing a lot about it. Not to mention the lack of having any assistance from your friends and family back home." Wyvern bowed. "I apologize, regardless."
"You didn't get enough sleep?" She folded her arms.
"No…" I blushed.
When I answered that, Glynda's glare sharpened even more to the point where it could pierce right through me.
"I was busy getting ready all night. I guess I was too nervous about everything. But the fact I need to keep my head down in this academy, full of people I don't know, is just pressuring me even more."
"No need to stress out on that matter. All of Professor Ozpin's most trusted instructors will take your master's word on protecting you and everything else. Especially your identity." Glynda told me before going through the door to the office. "Come."
"May I ask where the Headmaster is at?"
"He'll be seeing us at the amphitheater soon."
"So, we're going there?"
"To test out your skills once again. I know you already went through a separate initiation a few weeks before the recent first year students, but Ozpin would like to make sure you are still fit for duty as a student of this academy."
"I won't be watched by others, right?" I tried to smile forcefully to hide my uneasiness.
"Of course not." She replied. "That would make your introduction much more public, which can prove to be troublesome for both you and Ostanes."
"Right." I frowned a bit when she mentioned my master's name.
"My condolences, Wyvern." She added. "I'm sure you're still trying to move on from his loss."
I nodded and just looked away from her. "It'll take some time for me to get over it. But it won't get too much in the way as well."
Goodwitch nodded and corrected her glasses before giving me a stern expression once again. "Where is Professor Isaac? I thought I have spoken clearly that he is to come up here with you upon arrival. Were you unsupervised this whole time?"
My heart stopped as I could tell she was extremely aggravated by Isaac's absence. "He went to the cafeteria to go get something to eat." I answered her question. "Understandable, si-"
"Understandable?" Goodwitch stepped closer with her glare still sharp. "Do you not realize how your arrival would have caused a stir?"
"Well…"
"Students already know you're here, don't they?"
I stayed silent as soon as she asked the question I hoped she wouldn't ask.
She twiddled her riding crop while shaking her head disappointingly, clearly holding in some steam of frustration. "I don't know if I should slap you both with my hand, or my crop."
I gulped nervously and remained standing where I was out of fear, expecting to be hit if I try to run. "Anything but that crop, please."
"That further encourages me to use this." She lifted it while waving it around, making her much more intimidating. After a few seconds have passed, she lowered it and no longer pointed it directly at me. "But I'll forgive you just this once, since the blame is mostly leaning over to Professor Isaac. However, I expect you to take this matter more seriously. You may be a student here, but it wasn't meant to attract more attention at this moment in time."
"Thank you, Professor." I bowed and sat down on one of the chairs in Ozpin's office. "So, you're my supervisor…?" I asked, sounding a bit unpleasant about the idea.
"Do you not like the idea?"
"It's not you personally. I just find it a bit unnecessary, knowing most of the Professors are already watching over me with Professor Ozpin."
Goodwitch sat down on another chair in front of me and folded her arms. "Just look into this idea from Ostanes as a means of taking caution for your safety. The Kingdom of Vale is not so similar compared to the Drahën Empire. Vale is basically the central port of Remnant for international trading, which can attract criminal organization to commence operations here and commit the following: stealing goods, transporting illegal items, and even piracy."
I continued to listen to her warnings about how dangerous Vale could be. The more I soaked in the idea, it began to make me understand why she was chosen to be my supervisor. I didn't know much about the kingdom, but hearing that it was recognized as a central port where criminal organizations can secretly use it for as any means of transportation of supplies, and stealing just made me shiver in disgust. Professor Goodwitch is one of the most experienced Huntresses in Beacon, so it was no surprise that Master Ostanes would choose a woman that is much more dangerous in battle than how she looks intimidating. I've seen some of her fighting back when I was going through a separate initiation. I'll admit, she seems like quite a challenge.
I looked up at her and asked, "How bad is it here?"
"Each day that passed has grown a bit unstable to the point where the council had to request for a military advisor from the Drahën Empire to assist with security. Atlas declined our request, due to their limited time and resources. I'm honestly surprised the empire has the time to give the kingdom some assistance."
"At least help is on its way to Vale. But…damn. I didn't know the situation was this messy over here."
"Now do you understand?" She asked while patiently waiting for my answer. "I know you're against it, but this is the job I was chosen to handle by your master himself. I assure that it'll benefit you as well."
Reluctantly, I relaxed my shoulders and gave in to what the plan was during my stay. I had no authority to decline her position, and maybe she was right. Professor Goodwitch may be strict and takers her job seriously, but she at least gets the job done. With her assistance as my supervisor, maybe I can learn or adapt more efficiently here with her guidance. After a few seconds of silence, I nodded.
"Alright. I understand." I bowed my head. "Will you at least give me some breathing room during school hours?"
"I'm afraid I can't take any promises, but I'll keep that in mind."
"I'd thought you'd say that…"
Goodwitch extended her right arm out to reach for a handshake. "Now, with that out of the way, as your supervisor, I would like to formally welcome you to Beacon Academy. Any questions regarding on campus rules and classes will be answered by me. Don't hesitate to request for my aid."
"I'm honored." I shook her hand back.
