Daniel's POV

I woke up to the sound of screaming.

I quickly jumped to my feet (paws?) and looked around to see what was causing it.

One of the other boys in the dorm (who appeared to be a frog-man puppet) was standing on one of the bookshelves and pointing fearfully at the other side of the room. Looking over there, I noticed that one of the beds had been torn to pieces, and the kid who'd been sleeping there was gone.

There was a large rubber mallet there, but that was all.

"What's going on here?", grumbled Akio, dragging himself out of bed. I noticed every other student was gathering around the broken bed, looking sleepy, grumpy, or intrigued. Sometimes all three.

"Murder! Murder! Murder!", the frog boy shouted.

I noticed a tall blond boy studying the bed closely. He wore the same black robes as everybody else, but did not wear a hat. This revealed his rather smooth and neat hair, and his smug expression reminded me of someone I'd seen somewhere.

The boy slipped out a cane and tapped some of the pieces of the bed.

"I wonder who did this...", he mused, "Well, fellow students, I, your prefect, suggest we try to get to the bottom of this mystery today. We cannot let this crime go unpunished, for who knows if it will happen again. We are Grouchindor, house of heroes, and we will valiantly face this enemy as soon as possible!"

Everybody cheered, and I clapped my paws together quietly. However, the sight of the broken bed unnerved me. First day at this school, and already there was a murder mystery to solve. Yikes.

"Now, let us head to breakfast and classes. We do not want to be late to those, do we?", continued the prefect.

He started heading up the stairs, and I cast a look at the stained glass window before I followed him.

I don't know if it was my imagination or not, but I thought I saw something large fly past the window. (-o-)

At the breakfast table, I managed to snatched only a few pieces of bacon before Pigbumps grabbed the table and dumped everything on it into his throat. Looks like we were extra unlucky today.

Nobody seemed to care much, though, and were mostly discussing the murder and what schoolwork we'd have to do today.

The frog boy had stopped screaming, thank goodness, but his hiding under the table and whimpering wasn't much better. I remembered some of the creepy-puppet-strangling the sports team had done, and wondered if they would've practiced their moves on this guy just to shut him up. Judging by Fiona rubbing her paws together and glaring under the table, she was certainly considering it.

Anthony slid next to me. "Hey, do you have any idea where Miss Melody or Vernon went? I haven't seen them since we were sorted."

I shook my head. "No. I hadn't even noticed with all this confusion going on. What do you think happened to them?"

Janet popped up next to us, causing Anthony to scowl.

"I'll tell you what happened.", she growled, "That hedonistic pig made them disappear because he made us his students instead of theirs. If you pay attention to everything, you'll realize this school is hiding many dark secrets."

"And how, pray tell, did you figure this out?", asked Anthony, "You know as well as I that you like to invent conspiracies and laugh at us when we try to reveal them."

Janet crossed her arms and glared at him, but he dodged before he got Paralyzed again.

"Why else wouldn't the teachers have tried to see us or communicate at all last night? Hoopa made it quite clear he wouldn't let us out of his sight. They are far too protective to disappear like this.", explained Janet.

"Sounds logical.", Anthony replied grudgingly, "So, instead of solving that murder mystery, we need to figure out what happened to our teachers, and save them?"

Janet nodded.

"I've been practicing Rock Throw.", I said, "I don't know if that will help, but at least it's a move."

Anthony nodded. "And I'm trying to learn Night Slash. If I'm going to be a Pokemon, I'm going to learn how to be a powerful one."

Janet replied, "Hmph. Well, I'm doing my best to learn an AMAZING move, so don't feel too proud of yourselves."

"Aaaaand there's the Janet I remember.", Anthony commented.

Just then, Pigbumps grunted, "Breakfast is over! Off to class with you all, or Mrs. 'Chuck' Norris will roundhouse kick you into the afterlife!"

As everybody hurriedly stood up, Anthony glanced at me and mouthed, "Mrs. Chuck Norris?"

I shrugged, not sure what Pigbumps was talking about.

We figured it out pretty quickly.

As we followed the prefect to our next class, I noticed a tall, dreadfully thin, hunched over and carrying a mop. As soon as he saw us students, he glared furiously with his yellow, bloodshot eyes.

"Filthy creatures!", he screeched, "Leaving messes everywhere! Smashing beds, scattering pots, summoning death incarnate, dumping poisons, conjuring feathers, burning effigies of the teachers, and (gasp) leaving MUD ON THE FLOOR! I have to clean it all, and no one even cares! If I had my way, I'd throw all of you into the dungeons! Oh, Mrs. Norris!"

Suddenly a huge, ridiculously buff cat appeared, wearing a wrestler's outfit.

"Get them out of my sight!", wailed the janitor, and the cat's claws popped out, as it gave us a wicked grin.

"Run!", cried the prefect, and everyone took off in a hurry, the cat yowling and charging after us. Its every step shook the hallway, causing me to struggle to keep my footing. Vases fell over and shattered, paintings fell off their hooks, and everyone raced as fast as their legs could carry them.

"Over here!", shouted the prefect, opening the door into a classroom. Everyone hurried in, and the prefect slammed the door right in the face of the cat. The cat yowled furiously, then stomped off.

"The classrooms are warded against that thing.", the prefect said, " We're safe now, and we're in class early, so let's get ourselves seated while we wait for the teacher to arrive."

I made my way to a desk that looked empty, and sat down in it. With a flash, my school bag teleported in next to me, and I realized that was why nobody had stopped by the dorms to grab them.

Well, that was convenient.

Once we were all seated, there was a flash of light as a very short man with a very long beard appeared on top of the teacher's desk.

He had thick golden hair and distant blue eyes, and he was wearing red robes that were far too big for him. For some odd reason, he had a bunch of fuses in his beard, and with a casual flick of his wand, he set one of them on fire.

"Hello!", he cried, in a very squeaky voice, "I am Professor Flitmewicks, and today we are doing a little test!"

He did a little twirl and fell off his desk.

Everybody flinched, but he quickly reappeared on top of the desk, looking completely unaware of what had just happened.

"I challenge you all...to set my beard on fire!", he declared.

Everybody started whispering to each other. He shouted once more, "Set my beard on fire! You can do it by accident, why not on purpose? No one leaves until it's positively blazing!"

I started digging through my coat, wondering if I still had a box of matches in there somewhere. I noticed everyone else trying to figure out what to do. The prefect simply drew his wand, and cast a fireball at the professor.

It immediately set his entire person on fire, but he simply fell over the side of his desk and into a conveniently placed bucket of water.

"Excellent performance, prefect. Feel free to go.", the professor commented, as he teleported back onto his desk.

The prefect bowed, then strode out of the room.

"Now, the rest of you will have to keep trying.", the professor said, "Come come, it's not that hard. I'll just be reading up here while I wait ."

He conjured up a book labeled The Neverending Story, and began to read.

"I can't use magic!", grumbled Janet, "How am I going to get out of here?" She started pacing, while I continued trying to find my matches.

Fiona did a few stretches, then smiled and strode up to the professor's desk. Then she did a leap into the air, shouted, "Raging Dragon Eye Poke!", and drove one of her paws into the professor's face, lighting up with purple dragon energy.

Which had the bonus effect of setting the professor's beard on fire.

He once again did a convenient fall into the bucket, while Fiona did a somersault and landed on the desk. She plucked something off the desk, which turned out to be a sheet of gold star stickers.

"How on earth did you do that?!", cried Kayla, "Now I need to figure it out!"

Fiona shrugged. "I somehow learned some unique moves when I practiced my martial arts. I believe that attack was Dragon Rage. Once we get you in perfect form, you'll be able to do it as well."

Kayla grinned eagerly.

The professor reappeared on his desk. "Excellent work, brown fox thing! You may leave now."

Fiona did several backflips as she made her way out the door.

The professor declared, "Keep going! There's only one way you'll get out of here, you know! My beard is not nearly crispy enough yet!"

Kayla took a deep breath and used Flamethrower.

"Yippee!", cheered the professor, on fire once again.

Kayla noticed us all staring. She replied, "This is really easy for a Fire-type. I was just waiting to see how Fiona would do it."

She left the room as the professor doused himself in water again.

I searched my last pocket, and frowned when I found no matches. Oh dear, that wasn't what I wanted. How was I going to complete the challenge now?

I noticed Akio concentrating intensely. I noticed a faint shimmer in the air around him, and suddenly the professor was set on fire again.

Except...they didn't seem quite real.

"Illusionary flames? Although not what I was looking for, they're a splendid display of your magical prowess! You can go.", said the professor.

Akio grinned as he left.

Anthony seemed unsure of what to do. Then suddenly he smiled, and pounced onto the desk. He scraped his horn against the side of the professor's book, and sparks flew.

But the beard did not light.

Anthony scraped his horn against the book repeatedly, causing sparks to fly each time. After about a hundred tries (and a bunch of deep white scratches on the book's cover later), he finally set the beard aflame.

"Excellent!", cried the professor, "Quite the determination! You may go!"

Anthony did an imaginary guitar slide, whooping. He raced out of the room, leaving just Janet and I.

Seeing Anthony's approach gave me an idea. I fired two different rocks with my Rock Throw ability, and as they flew they scraped against each other. Sparks flew everywhere, setting the beard aflame once again.

"Well done. You may-"

Then he was crushed under the rocks.

I froze, but the rocks simply dissolved into water as he stood back up, chuckling. As I turned to go, I noticed Janet looking furious.

"I will not be upstaged by all of you!", she shouted, "I will-"

Suddenly, there was a loud ticking sound, and emerald light whirled around the professor.

I was startled when time around him began moving BACKWARDS.

He fell down, and the water rose back up and turned into rocks. It continued with the rocks flying back into the air and the professor lighting back on fire. But the time distortion stopped there, and the rocks fell onto the ground. The professor doused himself, and I noticed Janet fall over and lean against the side of her desk, breathing heavily.

The professor grinned. "Well, well, well. This looks quite interesting..." (-o-)

AN: Another chapter done! Next chapter, it's time for Huffandpuff! Let's see what else this crazy school has to offer.

Also, Mr. Prefect will be quite interesting later on - any guesses on who he is? I will be dropping clues as we go on, but I'll just tell you right now that his arrival means this story could be classified as a crossover.

Until next time, happy Pokemon hunting!
