I don't own twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and plot of the story.

Author's Note at the end.

Edward is sitting in the dark studio collecting food wrapping and tossing it in the trash. He told Michael to throw it in the trash, but the kid was too excited and in the zone, as he likes to say, to notice. Edward loves what he does, but moments like those drive him up the walls. He doesn't like feeling like someone's maid. He could always rent a studio. He won't have to do the cleaning then, but he prefers the familiarity of his studio.

Aside from being the CEO of the family's company, Edward is a songwriter and a music producer. It's his passion. The one thing that he does for the sake of doing. There is no ulterior motive. It's not the money. It's not the fame. It's not the prestige. It's the art.

He heads the family's company to make up for not being part of the less-than-legal side of things. He doesn't hate it. He just wouldn't have done it if he had no reason to. Music on the other hand is something he will do in every single life he has.

He returns to the piano bench and plays what he has figured out so far. After a couple of hiccups, the piece starts sounding better. He goes to his computer and starts layering his tune with other instruments.

30 minutes into his work, his phone starts ringing, "Yes Alice," he replies. Typically, he mutes his phone while working, but he has certain people that can always reach him. Alice is one of them. It's not due to necessity, but rather the fact that she will show up to his studio and be a pain in his ass if he doesn't answer.

"I have an event and I need you to be my date," she tells him.

He throws his head back in frustration, "Why can't my brother, your boyfriend, do the honors?" he asks.

"He can't. He has work and I don't want to go alone," she replies over the sound of shuffling fabric.

"You are almost 23 years old. Grow up Alice and go alone," he mutters pulling at the hair on the back of his neck.

"I don't want to because then I will have to socialize with Rosalie and I don't want to," she whines.

"Rosalie is coming too?" he asks.

"And your parents and Emmett."

"So it's a family outing that I wasn't invited to?" he asks annoyed. Sometimes he feels like his family pretends that he doesn't exist. He is the youngest. It's easy for him to feel like he fell through the cracks.

Now it's her turn to be annoyed with him as she tells him, "Enough with the theatrics Edward. You were invited. It's a charity event held by John Hale's company and their latest product partner. You probably ignored the invitation and had your assistant send a cheque instead." His family thinks that he has a flare for theatrics. He doesn't. His family don't call him out on it. They figured it comes with the territory of being an artist.

He nods his head and then mutters, "Yes," when he realizes that she can't see him and listens to her instructions.

"Alice, one more minute and we are going inside," he tells her while smiling for the cameras they are posing for on the red carpet.

She nods her head discreetly before moving to give the camera another angle. He isn't one to spend much time on the red carpet of any event, but Alice's fashion design aspirations mean that every bit of publicity counts. He indulges her since he can help her with that.

He is hit by the smell of jasmine the moment they step into the enormous room. He looks around and spots none of his family members which he finds strange since they tend to be the first to arrive. He recognizes a couple of faces due to his business involvement, but many to him are strangers.

He turns to Alice only to find her biting her lip nervously, "Is everything okay?"

She nods her head without looking at him. He studies her closer. Her eyes fleet from place to another. Her shoulders are stiff and she is frowning.

"Alice?"

"What?" She turns sharply to look at him. Her eyes give her away. They look both frightened and nervous. She turns her gaze to her feet.

"Is everything okay?" he asks patiently.

"Yes. No, I don't know," she tells him shrugging her shoulders.

He is silent for a minute observing her before he tells her, "Do you wanna tell me about it?"

She bites her lips before she turns to him and mutters, "My friend from high school. She left when we were 16 after her mum died and moved in with her dad. We haven't spoken since. Her mum's fiancé is here."

He nods his head in understanding. His heart goes out for 16 years old Alice who lost a friend, and her 16 years old friend who probably felt like she lost everything.

"What if he doesn't recognize me?" she whispers.

"Alice you didn't change that much. Don't be ridiculous," he mutters but the expression on her face makes him back peddle, "Listen, Alice, no matter what happens next, you can at least leave knowing that you did your best."

She silently stares into the crowd for a minute, then she nods her head, "So are you ready to go to him?"

"Will you be with me?" she asks looking vulnerable.

"All the way. I will even hold your hand if you want," he replies cheekily. That makes Alice giggle. She rolls her shoulders back and gets a hard look in her eyes then she turns to him and nods her head.

He gives her his elbow and she takes it and leads him to her left toward a man speaking to John Hale. On closer look, he recognizes him as Phil Dwyer. He doesn't know him personally, but he knows of him. He used to be a professional football player until his father started having health problems and he decided to quit to take over his father's role in the company.

Laughing loudly, John pats Phil on the back and then walks away. Phil looks around until his eyes land on Alice. They light up in recognition, and he walks toward them. That is all Alice needs to run to him. She throws herself at him and he spins her around as he hugs her back.

"Look at you, you are a sight for sore eyes," he tells her as he places her back on the ground.

She giggles at him and smiles back.

"Let me guess, you are wearing an Alice original?" he states stepping back to look at her.

"How did you figure it out," she exclaims in surprise. Edward watches as Alice transforms before his eyes into a giggling schoolgirl.

"Alice, I have seen enough of your designs when you were a teen to recognize an Alice original. The shoulders and the pattern of the embroidery are signatures in your designs," he tells her like it's obvious.

He smiles back and for the first time Edward watches as Alice giggles and jokes with someone other than Jasper. Despite knowing him and working with him for years, she has never been this relaxed. She isn't this relaxed even with her family.

"Who is this fucker," a voice mutters to his left. Edward looks at Jasper and finds him glaring daggers at Phil and Alice.

"Don't go and spoil this for her. This man is the only connection to her only friend from high school," Edward tells him then walks away and looks for his parents till he runs into his mum.

"I didn't know you were coming," she tells him as she hugs him and kisses his cheek.

"I didn't know I was coming until three hours ago," he replies.

"So Alice got to you," she concludes.

"You put her up to it?" he asks squinting his eyes and examining her expression.

"No I didn't but I am happy that she did," she tells him as she hooks her arm with his and leads him, "So, there is this lovely lady I want to introduce you to," she begins before he stops in his tracks and pulls her to stop with him.

"Don't you dare mother. If you try to set me up with anyone I will embarrass you," he tells her in a threatening tone.

Esme rolls her eyes and nods her head then leads him to a group of gathering where he finds his dad, Rosalie, Emmett, and Rosalie's parents chatting. They great him warmly with both Carlisle and Rosalie hugging him then John asks him what brought him to the event.

"You are not exactly known for showing up to events," he says in defense when his wife and daughter give him a look.

Edward laughs at John's defensive look and replies, "I came with Alice."

"Speaking of Alice, where is she?" his father states.

"Last time I left here with Phil. Jasper is also there," he tells them then thanks the waiter that handed him a champagne glass.

"Phil? The one I work with?" John asks and when Edward nods he asks, "How does she know him?"

"He used to be engaged before his fiancee died, and his fiancee's daughter and Alice were best friends in high school, so he and Alice know each other pretty well. Enough to know that the dress she is wearing was designed by her in less than a minute."

After he says that the topic of discussion changes, and he listens along as his family discusses various things until the orchestra starts playing music and he invites his mum to dance. Neither his siblings, nor his father are into dancing. They know how to dance. They simply don't enjoy it, so Edward makes a point to dance with his mum, Rosalie, and Alice when he can.

"When are you gonna start dating son?" she tells him while dancing.

"I have ex-girlfriends mum," he grumbles looking around the room for his dad hoping that he will come and cut in. He hates when she opens this topic with him.

"None of which you have introduced me to," she replies giving him a challenging look. He looks away and doesn't reply. He never introduced her to them because he knew those relationships wouldn't go anywhere.

Edward has two sides to contend with: the family side and the music side. Most women who are part of his family circle, or know of the Cullen mafia family, have expectations. They expect being with a guy that is heavily involved in the illegalities. They want a man who isn't only respected in the mafia world, but also in his family. He is neither. He isn't disrespected in either per say, he just isn't respected. He is just there. Mafia people doesn't go after him, and his family doesn't treat him like an outsider, but everyone in the underworld thinks he is a joke and his father and brothers are disappointed in him.

Why would a person choose the life of a tortured artist over the life of a crime lord? His dad always makes a point to tell him that he has the brains for it. That if he was involved, he would be running circles around Emmett; his next in line, but Edward has never had the heart for it.

Women in his other circle couldn't handle the danger that comes with dating him. They couldn't tolerate the midnight orders no matter how little and far in between, they were.

Then there were the women who could handle the late-night calls and the lack of respect he receives, but those couldn't handle the fame that came with dating him. He has resigned himself to half-assed relationships and a long life of solitude. He has made peace with that, but his mum hasn't.

"You know, you could always come out to her."

"What!" he exclaims attracting the attention of a multiple couples around them.

"I am just saying. Maybe she will just leave you alone then?" Rosalie tells him shrugging.

"I am not gay Rosalie. How will I explain to her the next relationship or situationship I have?"

"Then say you are bi," she replies not missing a beat.

"Knowing her, she will try her hand at same-sex matchmaking," he replies in a duh tone.

"Yeah, you're right. I was just trying to help," she pauses for a minute then says, "You will find a great relationship someday. I am sure of that."

He rolls his eyes at her. He loves Rosalie. She is perfect for Emmett, but she doesn't understand the dilemma he is in. No one in his family does. They claim that they do but they really don't.

Cullen scores a sweeping win!

Yesterday marked the 64th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony and the previously 13-time winner won three new ones yesterday making him a 16-time winner. Nominated for seven Grammys, Edward Cullen took home producer of the year nonclassical, Song of the year for co-writing and producing Tomorrow by Matt Haze, and Album of the year for writing and producing 8 out of 15 songs on Album of the year winner Blues by Dalida.

The Grammy-winning producer and number 1 hits maker ended the award season with a bang after collecting awards left and right in previous ceremonies.

He turns away from the computer screen and picks his phone up once it rings, "Hello."

"I need you in a meeting in three hours," Emmett's voice greets him.

"Hello Edward. I hope you are doing okay. Congratulations on your win. Oh, that's nice of you to say dear brother of mine," Edward replies imitating his brother in the beginning.

"I don't have time to clap for you and your little awards. I have work to do," Emmett grumbles.

"Same as I do. You might think that my work is unimportant, but I would like to see you run every single franchise this family launders its money through. I don't have time for your pissing contests meetings," Edward snaps back. He has a huge load of paperwork that he needs to go through. A lot of work has been getting pushed over the last couple of months due to his work as a producer.

He will be damned if he half-asses his way through his true passion to protect his family's asses.

"It's not like I want to. Dad said you need to attend it."

Rolling his eyes at his dad's continuous inclusion of him in something he hates, he mutters, "Where? With whom? And why?"

"It will be at that Spanish place Aro likes since he will be joining us. The Kings are at it again. This time they are going after the Volture too."

Edward smiles at that. If there is anyone that keeps up with what he does and doesn't make him feel less than for not joining the family business, it's Aro.

"Thank you," Edward tells the server smiling before he sits down. He is the first to arrive of their party. He sips on his wine as he scrolls through his Twitter feed. He is trying to make it last because he is driving and can't have more than two glasses.

After a couple of minutes, he hears some commotion near the doorway and looks up to find that his party has arrived together.

He stands up as they start walking toward him, and gives Aro a one-armed hug, then tilts his champagne glass toward his siblings.

They sit down and discuss the attacks their families' docks have been receiving while waiting for their meals to arrive. Edward's contribution to the discussion is minimal, but that is normal. By the time their meals arrive, they decide that for the time being to not make any moves beyond killing the goons they catch doing the King's dirty work. The Kings will never claim them. Any claim they make is an admission of a war attempt, and any unjustified offense by the Voltures and the Cullens will be considered that too and neither families want that. The Kings are notorious for attacking anyone and everyone including women and children.

"So Edward, are you dating anyone?" Aro asks as he pours himself his third glass of wine.

Edward throws his head back and huffs in frustration then mutters, "Not you too Aro."

His brothers snicker behind their glasses but that does not deter Aro's line of question, "What? It's a simple question, so answer me."

"No."

"I have someone to introduce you to," Aro states which make his brothers dissolve into laughter and Edward huff in frustration.

"Didn't know that you were into matchmaking," Emmett remarks still laughing.

"Well, you know me. Usually, I am not, but this lady is very special," Aro remarks then finishes his glass of wine.

"Please don't tell me that you slept with her and now you are shoving her on Edward to make sure she stays silent. Now that would be funny," Emmett says leaning forward.

"Bite it boy. I would never look at anyone but my wife. Plus, I have known her since she was a kid and she is my goddaughter," Aro snaps at Emmett.

Glaring at Emmett, Edward turns to Aro and says, "That's sweet of you Aro to offer, but at the moment I am not interested in dating."

Jasper who has been silent throughout the entire interaction, says, "Wait a minute. Isn't she the daughter of the traitor you recently offed?"

Emmett starts laughing again and says, "This is gold. You setting Edward with the daughter of a traitor?"

"Emmett enough!" Edward says angrily tired of his shit then turns to Aro for an explanation.

"She had nothing to do with her dad, and was at odds with him. As a matter of fact, if not for her help, I wouldn't have found out about Charlie's deceit," Aro states.

Edward nods his head and turns back to his food. He isn't interested in continuing this discussion. It's nice that Aro is trying to get him to date, but this girl is too involved in the mafia side of things to fit in his life.

"Listen Edward, obviously I am not going to force you to date her, but I care about Bella, and sure she grew up in New York City, but she hasn't been here for years and I want to be sure that if anything happens she has someone to reach to," Aro tells him noticing the expression on his face.

Edward nods his head and Emmett says, "Consider her family."

"Why is she moving back to New York? If you don't mind answering," Jasper asks.

"Her only tie to forks, her dad is dead. Plus, she wants to return to her career as a model."

For some reason, her career choice sticks in his head, but he decides to shelve that fact and change the topic since he is done discussing his dating life. He starts to discuss an issue that has arisen in the company and goes on a tangent on how Aro should avoid it. After that, they finally decide to leave. Everyone gets up and they walk toward the entrance of the restaurant and wait for the valet to bring their car.

That is when he sees her step out of a car.

Hope you liked Edward. Most stories with the Cullens being a mafia family in them tend to depict Edward and his involvement with his family business in a very specific way, one that tends to be violent, so I decided to portray him in different light, and try something unique with this story.
