10,000 Years ago (Earth Standard)
Dominus was standing in the council room listening to the slight bickering over his future. He stood straight and looked forward, dressed in his Alteran military armor. He knew that disobeying orders would end with reprimands, but did not dream that he would be summoned by the High Council.
"Lochias Dominus, you disregarded seventeen direct orders and six rules of engagement." Head councilor Te stated.
"Yes sir," Dominus replied, still looking straight ahead not meeting any eyes in the room.
"In doing so you are eligible for demotion or expulsion from the Security Force without honors." Te continued. "Do you understand the charges as stated, and do you understand the possible consequences?"
"Yes sir."
"This council has discussed the events in length, but we recognize that After-Action Reports are not the same as being there." Te looked down at a data slate. "You stated that the 200 primitives that were recovered justified your actions. Do you stand by that sentiment?"
"Yes sir, the inhabitants of the worlds that we lay claim to in this conflict also deserve our protection," Dominus said with muted passion in his voice, trying to hold his emotionless façade.
"So, noted. It is the will of this council that you will be relegated to manual maintenance of the Porta control systems for one week, after which you will be awarded the Star of Hope." Te stood from his chair and walked around the table, as Dominus looked directly at him for the first time and followed him with his eyes. "The Alteran Security Force was built on the tenants of protection of ourselves and others. The military branch is tasked with the defense of the hope of all under our purview." By this point, Te was standing a foot away from Dominus. "While we would caution the infractions previously stated, we commend your actions in this case."
Dominus stared at the Head Councilor in shock. With surprise and gratitude in his voice, Dominus said "Thank you councilors for this award. It means a lot to me."
"Congratulations Lochias. May this Star shine brightly on your future conduct." Te said, dismissing Dominus.
Dominus put his fist over his heart and walked out of the room, to see his sister, Aria, waiting just outside for him.
"So how bad was it, Domi? Did they strip you of duty? Are you going to be able to make dinner tonight?"
"Slow down and I'll tell you all about it."
Current Time (2004 Earth standard)
Dominus arrived at the control room still running his cloak. The only visible thing were two slight ripples over his eyes. Dominus looked around at the people scrambling around, attempting to regain contact with a patrol group. Dominus sighed internally, realizing that they were likely looking for the patrol that he incapacitated.
"Team Six, respond. Team Six, respond." A man with dark brown hair and a bit of stubble said. He appeared to be speaking to no one, but upon second glance he had a small earpiece on the right side of his head.
"Sir, this is Avery. We've located Team Six. It looks like they were knocked out." A male voice said over a speaker.
Dominus knew that he had to act. Using his neural implants, he interfaced with the terminals and put the city into lockdown. He then deactivated all the control stations effectively cutting off any attempts to break his codes without another of his people interfacing themselves.
A shorter semi-fat man started to freak out. "Who did that? Who engaged the lockdown?"
"McKay, can you get us back up?" The brown-haired man asked.
"No. the lockdown disabled the consoles. I would need access to a terminal with power and citywide control. The nearest one is through a couple of sealed bulkheads; most likely airtight." McKay leaned back then shot forward to disconnect a folding computer device. "Major, we likely have been hacked. Any computer hooked up to an Ancient terminal could be compromised."
"That sounds like a problem." The now identified Major said, trepidation in his voice.
"It is. As you know the Ancients were so far ahead of us it's not even funny. If something broke through their firewalls, imagine how easy it would be for them to get into our systems. Everything that we've learned here or any information we brought from earth is at risk." McKay said with rising panic in his voice. "Elizabeth, we have no control over the city, the Wraith may have hacked our computer systems, and I need to be able to get food so I can think straight."
"Rodney calm down." An attractive woman with brown curly hair and a red top, most likely Elizabeth, said with a raised voice.
McKay looked at her in disbelief. "How do you expect me to be calm here? We should be freaking out here. We just lost control of Atlantis! The city-sized spaceship! And we just put a Z.P.M. in the power station! This is worse than if someone took control of the entire supply of nukes!"
The man known as Major slapped McKay in the back of the head. "Shut up and help me get to the power station. This city is like a computer, right? We're gonna pull the battery and reset it."
McKay held his head and retorted "That is… actually a really good plan. I can't believe that I didn't think of that."
"Bates, you and I don't always see eye to eye, but I trust that you'll have my back in this. And none knows this city from a security standpoint like you."
"Shortest route or least doors sir?" Bates, a black man with short hair, replied.
"Least doors. Don't want to get trapped more than we are."
Line break-
Dominus was wondering about the city avoiding the areas that had people stuck in them. He did not doubt that cycling the power would work for them to restore control, but they wouldn't be able to use any of the door motors, as the power was not going to the panels. The only reason he could get around is because of his implants and his genes.
Jogging to the master control room, a room so well hidden that if you don't know where to go you would never find it, Dominus was wondering if the humans with some Alteran genetic code were descendants or an evolutionary offshoot of those that couldn't Ascend. The former would have claim to the city and would be the best choice for him to get back into service. The latter would need to be more thoroughly examined.
Reaching the hidden elevator, he gave the mental command and stepped in. The platform dropped a truly impressive distance until it got to the final corridor. When he stepped off the platform folded up and into a wall panel. At the same time, random supports and scaffolding came out of the sides of the elevator shaft before the ceiling closed the opening. The wall at the end of the hall slid down allowing access to a dark room.
Dominus walked in and clearly spoke. "Engage Incursion Protocol. Otherization: Lochias Dominus 0-3-0-5-1-4-7." The lights came on gradually and several screens came online. A single command chair came out of the floor and Dominus sat down.
On the main screen, the error message from the stasis pod chamber flashed. Dominus decided to get to the bottom of that problem, as his men would make his job a lot easier.
The in-depth explanation, while not the worst was not promising. The main thing he focused on is that the soldiers were not dead. The pods failed to wake them due to the preservation process not disengaging on command. That would need a core key. Core keys are physical keys that have to be inserted into a mechanical lock and transmit the right codes at the same time to turn and allow access to any deadlocked programming. He did not have one. The last one he had seen was with his sister when he went into his pod, and she would have taken it with her. The rest were hidden around the explored galaxies, the locations wiped from the accessible database.
Dominus ran scans on the people who were still going through with their plan to brownout the city. They were in fact descendants of his people. The likely result of interspecies procreation.
That meant that they had the best claim to the city, but he would never give up its secrets to someone he didn't fully trust. Dominus disengaged both the lockdown and the Incursion protocols and decided to "surrender" to the military contingent here. If they were not good people he could always escape and use the city to kill them all by using the shield to allow him to vent the atmosphere.
He stood up and walked back towards the back wall. "Shut down and secure!" He then walked back down the hall and the platform reappeared and the shaft reopened, allowing him to get back to the main city. He stepped on and rose back up.
Line brake-
Dominus cloaked his way back to the Astra Porta room. He then reappeared at the base of the stairs, kneeling with his hand behind his head. "My name is Lochias Dominus. I surrender and demand to speak to the senior military officer." He looked into the information he got from the humans and pulled two names for his request. "Major John Shepard, Dr. Elizabeth Weir! I'll only speak to you."
Dominus was surrounded and had weapons pointed at him from the same level he was on, the personnel on the stairs, and the ones on the balconies. While he had expected this, he had to fight the instinct to disable them all.
The Major and Doctor looked at each other and Shepard spoke. "Now isn't this a surprise? Take him to the conference room. Keep him under guard until I arrive."
The men in black pulled him to his feet and relieved him of his weapons, at least the visible ones. They then marched him to the room and sat him in a chair, six of them in total all took place around the room and kept an eye on him.
A/N: Ok I know this took a while to get out. I'm going through a tough time IRL, and can't write as much as I'd like. That being said I'm going to try and get these out faster, and hopefully, entertain you all. I am gonna skip over the conversation between Shep and Domi, as we all know how that would go, but I will put a recap, and a follow-up discussing possibilities next chapter. Also, as I won't be freestyling next time it should be faster. R&R until next time.
