Set after Road Kill and JD never existed
A bar
Woody's dark figure
leaned over his glass, filled with clear, biting liquid. He sipped it
bitterly, savouring the hot burning sensation as it trickled down his
throat. His eyes were fixed on the end of the bar, his thoughts a
million miles away. He wasn't aware of Jordan until her voice broke
his pensive thoughts.
"Buy a girl a drink?" she asked,
leaning on the bar next to him.
He looked up at her eyes slowly, letting his eyes wonder over her before resting on her honey coloured eyes. A sad smile spread over his face. He signaled for her to sit down on the next stool before waving the bar tender over.
"What can I get you?" the young bar tender asked, looking between Woody and Jordan. Woody looked at Jordan for a moment before saying, "Vodka, thanks," to the bar tender and then softly to Jordan, "For sentimental reasons."
An ironic smile spread across her face and her drink was placed down in front of her.
"Cheers," she said picking it up and sculling it's fiery, clear contents.
They sat in silence for a moment, merely enjoying the lack of anger between them. Their eyes looking on anything but each other.
It was Jordan that spoke first, looking across at Woody.
"Kessler, it was unsettling how well she could read people."
"Mmm yeah, seemed to enjoy stating the unsaid," he replied, not looking up at her.
"She thought I was like her," Jordan said, refusing to look at him.
At this Woody looked up at her questioningly.
She smiled ruefully.
"You know, dead
mother, lying father …"
She didn't continue. Instead she
just looked down at her hands. There was a moment of silence, prior
to Woody speaking.
"Jordan, no one knows more than me that not having your parents around can screw you up. But Jordan … your nothing like her."
" But that's just it, Woody, I could be. You've seen me when I set my mind on something. There's no changing it." Jordan's manner had changed, her voice now was almost a whimper.
"Jordan, " Woody said turning to her and placing his hands on her bare arms.
"Your nothing like her. Your this beautiful, intelligent, wonderful person who has such passion for life, that you could never take one."
Gradually as he spoke, Jordan's gaze lifted to meet his. They were millimetres apart, the bar around them seemed to be spinning into a blur and all they could see was each other.
There was a moment that passed as they sat close, and both knew that that moment had been the point of no return. There had been the space where on some level they were asking each other's consent, giving them the chance to pull away, to run away once again. But they both stayed locked in each others eyes. Woody placed his lips on hers, gently kissing her and within moments they were lost in each others tender kisses, warmth filling both of them. It was with that kiss that they knew that they couldn't escape each other forever. Love will always find you...
