The Lion Princess
Chapter 6: The First Steps of a Warrior
Athena laughed in delight as she ran in the Urembo Meadows before laying down to enjoy the peaceful view.
The Urembo Meadows was a large expanse of meadow filled with sweet-smelling yellow flowers and lush green trees. A few trails weave through it and rocks of various size were scattered about.
Athena smiled when she saw a couple of egret birds flying by in the bright blue sky and then notice her brother or friends were no where to be seen.
"Where did everyone go?"Athena asked.
When Athena stood up, she suddenly got tackled down by Simba and their other friends; Malka, Tama, Chumvi and Kula.
Malka was a male cub with a tan main pelt, while his muzzle, paws, and underbelly were cream. He had tufts of black fur on his head and the tips of his ears.
Tama was a female cub with orange-tinted tan fur with a cream chest and muzzle. She also had a head tuft and tangerine orange eyes.
Chumvi was a male cub that had dark brown fur with tan eye rims, a head tuft, and a tan muzzle. His eyes were reddish-brown.
Kula was a female cub with caramel-brown and her eyes were red. She had a pink nose, colourless paws, a pale muzzle and underbelly, and a dark brown tail tuft.
"We got you, Athena!"Simba, Malka, Tama, Chumvi and Kula said in unison. "You're it now!"
Athena giggled lightly as Simba and the other cubs started licking her.
"Guys, stop it!"Athena remarked joyfully. "That tickles!"
The human girl and the cubs later returned near Pride Rock to continue playing together.
In a flat rock stood Tojo looking after the orphan baby blue birds that were under his care after hatching from their eggs.
Tojo was a male cub with dark golden fur, a pale underbelly, a pale muzzle and pale paws. He also had black ear rims, a pale pink nose and sky-blue eyes.
"Hey, Tojo!"Chumvi called out. "Aren't you going to play with us?"
"No thanks."Tojo answered as one of the birds went on his head. "I'm busy at the moment."
Tama frowned as she glanced at her friends.
"He barely plays with us after becoming a babysitter."Tama whispered.
"Well, better him than Simba."Athena sneered.
"Hey!"Simba chuckled.
"Athena has a point though, Simba."Kula agreed. "You are going to be king when we are all grown up. So, you're future is set."
"I can hardly wait to grow up."Malka admitted and pretends to bent down to catch a nearby prey. "I want to become part of the hunting party."
Chumvi looked at Athena.
"I guess you'll be one of Simba's close advisors, Athena."Chumvi assumed.
"Looks that way."Athena responded.
"Hey, guys. Slow down."Simba insisted with a smirk. "What's the hurry? Let's focus on having fun and think about the future another day? We got all the time in the world."
Athena, Malka, Tama, Chumvi and Kula all nodded in agreement.
The young children then continued having fun together, completely unaware of the pair of hateful eyes watching them (mostly Athena) from a pile of long grass.
Sometime after, Mufasa brought Athena to Rafiki's tree to have an important lesson from the old yet wise Royal Mjuzi.
The human girl was confused and didn't understand why she was the only one needed to have this teaching, but she knew better than to argue with her father.
After carefully clashing two rocks to make a smooth yet sharp spear head and attaching it with a strong branch, Rafiki instructed Athena to combine it to complete the making of her weapon.
As a result, Athena ended up making a spear.
"Mr Rafiki, what do I exactly have to use this thing for?"Athena asked, scratching the back of her head.
"You see, Athena, this thing I have instructed you to make is called a spear."Rafiki exclaimed. "It's a weapon that will help you catch prey and defend yourself whenever you are in danger."
Athena looked at the spear with an unsure look.
"Because I'm the only lioness without paws and claws?"Athena suggested with a hint of shame. "So how can I..."
Rafiki ruffled Athena's head causing her to look at him.
"Athena. Athena."Rafiki responded with a smile. "Warriors are not born, they are created. They accept the challenges of life in true humility. In life, you're going to encounter hard times at some point. This means you must be prepared to endure pain and find solutions at any moment."
"But-"Athena started.
"It is your decision, young one."Rafiki stated. "Whatever you want, is your decision."
There was a moment of silence before a determined look appeared on Athena's face.
"Okay."Athena answered with a nod. "I want to learn how to use a spear and become a successful huntress. Please lend me your guidance, Mr Rafiki."
Rafiki smiled in approval and gives a bow to Athena.
"As you wish, Your Majesty."Rafiki answered.
Athena begins her first step of becoming a strong lioness girl, but what will happen next? See you all in the next chapter!
