Q — Question
She never had a reason to doubt him. If there was one thing he always was when it came to her, it was honest. So, when Raimundo denied all knowledge when questioned about his jumpy behaviour, Kimiko knew something was up.
Starting with simple questions, the dragon of fire did her best to get something from the man. Each time he made some flimsy excuse before disappearing, moving so quick there may as well have been a dust cloud outline before her.
It was when she caught him speaking with Clay in hushed voices that her interest was truly piqued. Usually, the cowboy was on her side, but with the way his eyes widened at the sight of her before abruptly ending their conversation, his help was clearly out the window.
Raimundo's unusual behaviour was something she could usually ignore, but the sheer flightiness of her teammates left her too intrigued. It wasn't her birthday; their anniversary wasn't for another four months…
It wasn't until later that evening when she made her way to the koi pond that she heard a guitar gently play nearby.
Looking around the area, Kimiko caught sight of Clay, his cowboy hat tipped forward as he strummed a gentle melody against the strings, happy in his own little world.
The wind picked up around her, gently blowing her hair against her skin. Eyes closed she smiled at the feeling of his element at work – of course it was his doing, after so long together she could easily sense whether the movement was created or natural.
At the feeling of the breeze returning to its still state, Kimiko opened her eyes as she turned her head, expecting to be face to face with her long-term boyfriend. Her eyes moved towards the ground, her hand covering her mouth as she gasped at the sight.
Raimundo kneeling on one knee, an opened ring box in his hand.
Frozen to the spot, tears watered her eyes as she continued to stare at the love of her life.
"Kimiko," he breathed, his voice shaken from nerves. "You don't know how hard it was to plan something simple yet romantic that would be worthy of you," his eyes darted behind her, nodding at the encouraging nod from their best friend who continued to play his gentle tune. "Word could never describe just how much I love you, or just how much I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Would you provide me with an honour greater than anything else this temple could offer – will you marry me?"
Tears fell from her eyes, her voice cracking as she attempted her answer. Rapidly nodding her head, she threw her arms around her boyfriend – Fiancé– and held him close.
"I love you; I love you; I love you," she cried against his neck, kissing the tear-soaked spots.
Pulling her back, Raimundo pulled the ring from the box, slipping it onto her ring finger.
"It fits!" he exclaimed, kissing her fingers. "It's from my family, the first child to get married gets the engagement ring. Somehow, I was the first, so my mum gave it to me. It's seen as a good luck charm in its own way,"
"It's perfect," she breathed, admiring the golden ring.
"and I know you prefer silver, but I couldn't exactly control that and while it isn't brand new—"
His words silenced by her kiss, Raimundo relaxed against her, his adrenaline slowly coming back down.
Pulling away, Kimiko looked to his barely open eyes, smiling at his lovesick face, she whispered, "It's perfect,"
"I should probably add, each marriage by that ring has been successful. You're stuck with me forever,"
He could only grin at her hearty giggle. Music to his ears.
"I am very much okay with that,"
Heads resting together, the two enjoyed their moment of bliss before turning to the cowboy who just so happened to have something blow into his eye. He wasn't crying, of course not. It certainly wasn't because he just got to be involved in the set up of two of his best friends getting engaged.
At least, that's the story he'd tell even on their wedding day.
AN: It took until Q but I finally did a proposal!
And yes, I'm really trying to get this finished now! I was supposed to do one a week when I started this... in 2018. Whoops.
