U — Unarmed

An unintentional sequel to Midnight

Walking through the forest, thick branches swayed with the breeze, the night sky barely peeking through the gaps.

She kept her eyes in front of her, listening for any unusual or familiar sounds.

They had been separated; all four of them split with no quick way to communicate. She should have gotten it into their heads by now that they needed to bring a phone to Wu hunts, for this very reason alone.

Branches creaked around her. A nearby branch snapping brought her attention to the area.

"Who's there?" she asked. Hands ready to conjure her element.

"Kimiko?"

Stepping from the darkness, Raimundo's figure came into view, his hands low at his sides to not startle her.

"Thank god you're okay,"

Meeting him halfway, her arms wrap around his neck, holding him tight, smiling at his arms tightening around her waist.

"Any sign of the others?" he asks.

"No," leaning back, she stays in his hold as they face each other. "You're the first one I've found,"

"What about team evil?"

The hairs on her face bounce against her cheeks as she shakes her head.

"I'm just glad you're safe,"

His hand on her head, Raimundo's hand gently guides her back to his shoulder, his fingers slowly gliding down her neck.

"We shouldn't stay like this," Kimiko warns, "They could find us like this,"

"It'll be fine," he promises, the arm around her waist tightening. "I already know you'll be his downfall,"

"What—"

Pushing against the hand on her head, Kimiko came face to face with the now glowing yellow eyes. Her lovers face tainted with the Heylin power.

"Why hello there, Kimiko," his wicked smile crawled across Raimundo's face. "Let's have some fun now, shall we?"

The hand at her head gripped her hair, pinning her face in place. The arm around her waist tightened again, squeezing hard enough to stop her from taking a full breath.

He was going to suffocate her.

Not enough focus for her element, no Wu hidden away in any pockets. She was utterly defenceless against his onslaught.

"You're going to be the cause of his demise," Hannibal spoke, a promise of the future. "I told him what I'd do to you and yet he was still foolish enough to leave you all alone,"

Panicked eyes watched his face. Surely this wouldn't be her ending?

A shadow moved in the distance, hidden from Hannibal's sight.

"You know," she gasped, fighting for her words. "He's not that stupid,"

The breeze picked up, circling the two as Hannibal searched the area. He tugged on her hair, holding her head back as her neck became exposed.

"One wrong move and I slice that pretty throat," he warned.

A cold, sharp object sliced across his hand, loosening his hold on her head.

Kimiko's hands were at his shoulders, creating as much space between them as possible. The winds circling them swept faster, harsher as Hannibal maintained the hold on her waist.

"Hey Bean," Kimiko called over the sharp gusts, waiting for the yellow-eyed demon to face her. "What does fire need to thrive?"

The look of horror barely registered as she brought her element forward, filling the sphere-shaped wind trap around them with the bright flames. His agonising screams were buried beneath the roaring flames.

Pulling herself out of the fire, Kimiko felt a cooled hand grab her arms.

"Let me carry your weight," the monk spoke.

She leaned against him, thankful for the support. Watching the flame, she let the fire dissipate as the air settled around their villain.

"Nice job getting his hand," she complimented, ignoring the smell of severely singed clothing.

"It was my pleasure,"

"Hey Omi, where's—"

The ground rumbled beneath them, a jagged crack emerging from the ground, swallowing the charred villain up before closing shut. The ground showing no evidence of disruption.

"That'll keep him awhile, at least," the cowboy dusted his hands.

"Kimiko!"

Stepping away from the monk, she opened her arms to her boyfriend, allowing him to sweep her into a hug.

"You're okay?" he asked, a hand stroking her face while his eyes took in her appearance.

"I'm okay," she answered. "I can breathe again,"

"I was so worried," his hands held her face, their foreheads touching. "I thought I arrived too late,"

"You didn't," she whispered, "I promise, you were right on time,"

Clay stepped forward, bringing their attention to him, "We should get going,"

Raimundo nodded in agreement before scooping the unsuspecting girl into his arms.

"Hey!" she protested.

"Where's our ride?" he asked, walking towards Clay.

The two giggled at the sight; Kimiko folding her arms in defeat.

They'd had a few close calls in their time at the temple, but now, at least for a short while, they could all breathe knowing that Hannibal had finally attempted his threats on Kimiko. His failed plan now forcing him into the shadows for the next few months.

They'd be ready next time, and the time after that. Because if they know one thing, it's that they will never be the others downfall.
