Title: A Not Unwanted Thought

A/N: This is very rough draft. Still uncertain about its quality. Comments will be greatly appreciated.

For the past hundred years or so since Rukia got accepted into the Shinigami Academy and a while later, into the Kuchiki Family, she had never once thought of Byakuya-nii-sama as anything more than 'Byakuya-nii-sama'. To her, Nii-sama was the cold and unfeeling Sixth Squad Captain. Period.

Thus, it came as a shock to her when on one of the girls' night with the rest of the female shinigamis, Matsumoto Rangiku, who had been drank quite a bit of sake by then, asked her, "Ne, Rukia-chan, what do you think of Kuchiki-taichou?"

Luckily for them, they were in Matsumoto's room, and Hitsugaya-taichou had wisely evacuated his entire squad for the night. They were relatively far away from any passing ears, and their conversation was held in relative secrecy.

"What about Nii-sama?" Rukia sipped at her tea. She had flatly refused Matsumoto's attempts to drink sake. The only one time she'd tried it, Nii-sama had given her that 'look' which said she'd better not try it again.

"Weeeeelll, you do live under the same roof, and you do meet him at least once everyday, and you speak to him at least once everyday, right? So, do you think of him 'that way'?" Matsumoto wriggled her brow suggestively at the smaller girl.

"What way?"

"You know, 'that way'."

"What 'that way'?"

"Are you feigning stupid, or are you really stupid?" Rangiku waved her sake bottle at Rukia, who shied away immediately.

"I think he's hot," piped up Kiyone. Her flushed face at the empty sake bottle at her feet were testimony to the fact that she was not exactly clear-minded.

"Hot?" Rukia asked, confused. "Warm summer weather? No wind?"

Matsumoto shook her head disapprovingly. "No, no, my dear girl, not hot as in weather hot. Hot as in man hot."

Ise Nanao and Koutetsu Isane, heavily under the influence of sake, whistled appreciatively.

"Huh?"

"Like, for example," Matsumoto placed her precious sake bottle to one side, then moved over to Rukia's side, all the while staring at her from under her eyelashes, "have you ever thought how Kuchiki-taichou would look …" she paused for dramatic effect, blinking her eyelashes seductively, "naked?"

To Rukia's dismay, she blushed deeply. Matsumoto laughed, her assets bouncing along with her, singing, "She's blushing, she's blushing, our Rukia-chan is blushing!"

The rest of the female shinigamis clapped somewhat scatteredly, before falling into a sake-induced sleep. Rukia had chosen that moment to escape, muttering about having to get back before it's too late, and running all the way back to the Kuchiki House. Luckily for her, Kuchiki-taichou was still busy at the Sixth Squad office, and Rukia fled into the relative privacy of her room.

The next morning, at breakfast, Rukia found herself unable to meet her Nii-sama's eyes.

"Are you ill, Rukia?" asked the Sixth Squad Captain, after he had finished his breakfast, and Rukia was still picking at hers and avoiding his eyes.

"N…no, Nii-sama. I'm fine."

He frowned a little, and then stood up. "You should go see Unohana-taichou. Your face is red."

Startled by the unexpected comment, Rukia lifted her eyes. The unbidden image which Rangiku-san had suggested came to mind, and Rukia blushed even a deeper crimson, and kept her eyes steadfastly on the floor after that.

"I… I think I'd just rest in my room, Nii-sama. Have a good day." Bowing awkwardly, not lifting her eyes from the floor, Rukia fled the room.
