Chapter 12: Friends, Family, and Love
"Why did he do it?!" Josh whispered fiercely from his bed in the Hospital Wing. Another day had passed since the unfortunate poisoning from Slughorn's party and things at the School had become even more somber than before. A few more students had been pulled from school by their parents, fearing for the safety of their children. Some of the students where were poisoned but saved by bezoars have yet to regain consciousness, and they were all, with the exception of Tracey, transferred to St. Mungo's as their parents wanted Healers to watch over their children. Mrs. Greengrass, Tracey's guardian, had faith in Madam Pomfrey and wanted Tracey to stay in Hogwarts, where it was more safe and away from the Death Eaters and war out in the world. The poison too had been identified. When drank, it would burn your insides, as if eating and digesting big bits of glass. Cutting open your insides with deep cuts. The students who were saved were lucky that their cuts weren't so deep as the other students who died. Their throats, stomachs, and intestines were the areas that would get torn up.
William, however, was still unconscious in the bed next to Josh where Theodore Nott was standing next to, looking a little annoyed at Josh. Neville was there as well, sitting in a chair with his head in his hands, worried and feeling guilty about William.
"I don't know!" Nott whispered back. "Pansy told me to go after him and then I walked in on him drinking the potion before I could even do something. He started shouting out in pain and then he collapsed. And I brought him here as quick as possible."
Josh glance over at the unconscious William. "Well, did he see anything?" he asked, worried about his friend. Nott shook his head. Josh then turned to Neville. "Don't look so sad, Longbottom. Pomfrey said he's doing alright in that state." Neville nodded. "Though she doesn't know when or if he's going to wake up or not," he mumbled which made Neville groan.
"So what do we do then?" Nott asked.
"What can we do?" Josh replied with a sigh. "Nothing to do but to wait till he wakes up."
There was a small moan. Harry, Nott, and Neville's heads turned towards Tracey's bed where the moan had come from. She slightly moaned and moved her hands. "Neville, go get Madam Pomfrey. Nott, go find Daphne!" The two boys nodded and ran off as Josh pushed himself out of bed and walked over to Tracey's bed, kneeling next to it and grabbing one of her hands. "Tracey?" She mumbled something unintelligible. "Tracey, it's me. Can you hear me?" Josh asked.
"Ron," she mumbled, moving her head as he breathing quickened a bit. Josh smiled and grasped her hand.
"Not quite," he replied. "But he'll be here soon."
Tracey fluttered her eyes open, looking over at Josh. "Josh," she said hoarsely. "Where's Daphne?"
"She'll be here in a bit," Josh answered, noticing a tear fall out of her eye, "Don't worry, Trace. It's okay. You're going to be okay." More tears flowed out of Tracey as she silently cried. Josh continued to hold her hand and not let go until she was done crying.
Moments later, Madam Pomfrey came out of her office with Neville following close behind. The nurse ran over to Tracey. "Oh thank the heavens," she gasped as she checked of Tracey with her wand. Another moment later, Mrs. Greengrass and Daphne came running into the Hospital wing, straight over to Tracey's bed.
"How she's doing!?" Mrs Greengrass asked Madam Pomfrey. Daphne knelt next to Josh as he let go of Tracey's hand so Daphne could hold it. Daphne took Tracey's hand, smiling with her eyes gleaming with tears.
"She'll be okay," Madam Pomfrey. "But it's going to be tough for her. Her stomach, throat, and intestines are still healing. It'll be a little difficult to eat, drink, or digest anything for a little while. I will giver some potions to help the healing process as well as for pain. And she'll have to be put on a liquid diet for a few days, until her body is ready for whole foods." Mrs. Greengrass nodded in understanding. "And since she is awake, she can go home for break. I'm sure it would be better for her to rest and heal up at home where it's more comfortable for her."
Mrs. Greengrass nodded. "We're just happy that she's awake."
"If you would like to come with me," Madam Pomfrey spoke. "I'll give you the potions and give you more details about them so you can relay them on to Miss Davis later." Mrs. Greengrass nodded and followed Madam Pomfrey to the head Office.
Tracey turned to Daphne. "What happened?" she hoarsely asked.
"You were poisoned," Daphne answered, "At Slughorn's party. You and many others were poisoned. Josh was able to feed you a bezoar before things got worse. Others too were given one, but others didn't make it. A lot of our friends didn't make it. Millie..." Tears flowed down Daphne's cheeks as Josh solemnly looked at the ground. "Millie didn't make it." A tear flowed out of Tracey's eye as she then began to cry for her housemate Millicent Bullstrode. Josh felt the pang of guilt and sadness for losing another person, but he had to believe that it wasn't his fault. It wasn't. He knew whose fault it really was, and however he was going to do, Josh will prove that it was McGlaggen.
An hour later, Josh exited the Hospital wing, dressed in some casual clothing that Harry had brought to him. It was time to go home for Christmas break and Josh was relieved by Madam Pomfrey after another once over. She advised him to take it slow as his magical core and strength was yet to be fully restored.
"Joshua Black." Josh turned to see an annoyed and angered Pansy walked up to him with Nott slowly following behind her with the left side of cheek was red.
"Yes?" Josh said with curiosity. Pansy walked up to Josh and pushed hard on his chest. "Oi! What was that for?!"
"Nott told about your investigation of solving Draco's murder," Pansy informed him. "He told me all about the potion and new spell and everything. He told me what William did that caused him to go into that coma!"
"Did he now." Josh muttered, glaring over to Nott who was looking at the ground and rubbing his cheek. Suddenly his red cheek made sense to Josh. "Right, well, what is it you want tell me?"
"That it's your fault that William is in a coma!" Pansy hissed and then pushed Josh in the chest again.
"Ow," Josh groaned, rubbing his chest. "I didn't tell him to do it. I was going to do it myself."
"You roped him into this mess!" Pansy argued.
"I needed his help!" Josh argued back. "He was smart enough to help me create a spell and develop a potion to help solve Draco's death. You don't know what it's like to feel the weight of your friend's death in your heart - "
"Don't you dare say that I don't know," Pansy hissed, her eyes brimmed with tears. "Or did you forget that my best friend died that night. I know fully well how it feels. I wasn't there to comfort Millie in her last moments. I didn't...I.." Pansy began to cry. Josh felt a pang of sadness and guilt. How could he forget that Pansy and Millie were best friends. Daphne was the one who told Josh about it, and how the two girls were inseparable since first year. Though back then, Pansy was a bit more meaner. Nowadays, she had become nicer and more of a decent witch. A great witch to be exact.
Something suddenly popped into Josh's head. "Wait a minute," he said, "Why do you care so much about William? I've never seen you two exchange a word." Pansy wiped her tears away as her cheeks went pink.
"Well, you see," Pansy began, "I...we...well - "
"They fancy each other," Nott said as he was leaning against the wall. "Nielsen's had this huge crush on her since the DA Last year. It was very noticeable. I mean you notice these things when another guy likes your girlfriend at the time." Nott pushed off the wall. "And she fancied him back or does now. I mean I did hear you and Millie talk about the mate a few times."
Pansy snapped around. "Those were private conversations," she hissed.
Nott smirked. "You were talking about a guy, I got jealous," he replied with a shrug. "I mean, Nielsen? I don't see the appeal, but it's your choice."
"Oh and yours is better?" Pansy turned back to Josh. "He's in love with a fifth year Gryffindor. Last name Robins, I believe."
"Shh!" Nott shushed, "Not too loud!"
Josh chuckled. "Good choice," he said, and turned to a sniffling Pansy. He placed his hands on her shoulders. "Look, William is going to be fine. He's headstrong and very clever. I mean, we developed a new spell and potion out of old wizard notes and thin air. He mostly did the calculations. He did that. We knew the risks and we made sure the formulas and ingredients were exact and perfect. We wouldn't do it until everyone, especially William was ready. And I guess he was. I knew this was going to work, and I know it did. It took a toll on his Mind and it needs rest to recover. He will be okay." Pansy nodded and sniffed. "And I say he's in good hands." Pansy looked up at Josh and smiled. "You will keep an eye on him, over the break?"
Pansy nodded, "Of course i will." She turned to glare at Nott. "We will." Nott rolled his eyes yet nodded towards Josh. "I'm sorry I pushed you."
"It's okay," Josh shrugged. "I understand." Pansy nodded, wiping her eyes and entered the Hospital Wing just as Daphne was leading Tracey out. Pansy bid her housemates goodbye and went over to William's bed while Nott also took his leave.
Josh smiled as Daphne slowly led Tracey by the hand. Tracey was told to take things easy and slow, and not to do anything too strenuous. She was sore in her throat and abdomen areas mostly. She swore she could feel soreness in her lungs, even when she breathed. She remembered coughing up a lot that night as well. Madam Pomfrey told her to take her potions and that she would be back to her fighting self in no time.
The trio of friends soon began to head towards the carriages at the front of the castle. Students were gathered around, chatting and laughing, entering the carriages that would take them to Hogsmeade Station. Hermione was waiting for them at the front doors, smiling when she saw Tracey awake and walking. Tracey looked up, smiling when she saw Hermione. She looked around Hermione, hoping to see someone else, but he wasn't around.
"Where's Harry and Ron?" Josh voiced for Tracey, who wanted to know where Ron was.
Hermione's smile faltered. "They're already at the train," She answered as she and Daphne helped Tracey step onto one of the carriages. Harry's words to Hermione were still in her mind. Harry and Hermione still haven't talked about that night that was heartbreaking for the both of them. Josh, Daphne, and Hermione entered the carriage that took them to Hogsmeade station. The four entered the train and Hermione led them into an empty compartment with no Harry or Ron.
"Are we not going to share compartment with Harry and Ron?" Josh curiously asked when Daphne elbowed him in the ribs. "Ow, what was that for?"
"Excuse us," Daphne said to Tracey and Hermione and dragged a confused Josh out of the compartment and shut the door.
"What are you doing?" Josh asked, straightening his shirt. Daphne glared at her boyfriend. "What?"
"Hermione can't face Harry right now," Daphne told him. "Nor can Ron face Tracey."
Josh was confused. "Okay, what the hell happened when I passed out?"
Daphne sighed. "Harry told Hermione that she should stay away from him and that she should have never became his friend," She began. "Hermione wants to be with Harry and wanted to confess her feelings to him, but then he said that. How would that make you feel?"
"Pretty heartbreak, I believe," Josh answered, wondering why in the world would Harry say that. After everything they've been through and he just tosses her aside. "What a twat." Daphne slapped Josh in the arm. "Ow! Why do you keep hitting me?"
"First off, don't call Harry that," She replied, "And secondly, don't use that language in front of me!" Josh tried not to smile. "I mean it!"
"Alright, Merlin, I'm sorry," Josh apologized, though he was smiling. "What about Ron and Tracey? I know Tracey fancied Ron."
"Right," Daphne said, "Well, Ron, being thickheaded as he is. Finally realized his feelings for Tracey but then this whole poisoning thing happened, and Ron was with Brown at the time. And she was poisoned too, but Ron ran to Tracey's side instead of Brown and now Ron feels so guilty because he left Lavender to die on her own, that he can't face Tracey. His feelings are all over the place. He does fancy Tracey but he fancied Brown. It's very complicated with him right now."
"That sounds complicated," Josh said looking pensive. "Wait, Ron told you this?" Daphne nodded. "He's come a long way." Ron has come a long way. There was no way he would have confided in Daphne a year ago. "Maybe I should go check on them?"
Daphne nodded, "Good idea, go," she said, pushing him away. "Go. Let us girls talk. Maybe stay with them for the train ride."
"But I want to ride with my girlfriend," Josh whined as Daphne pushed him.
"We'll have the whole Christmas break to be with each other," Daphne informed him. "But you're friends need you. Go on."
Josh feigned his pouting causing Daphne to smile. "What about a kiss?" he asked.
Daphne glanced at Tracey and Hermione who were peaking glances their way. Josh too noticed their glances. "Maybe it's not such a good idea right now," she said.
Josh nodded, "Yeah, you're right. I'll see you in a bit." Daphne nodded and watched her boyfriend leave and entered the compartment, sitting next to Tracey.
"Where's he going?" Tracey asked.
"Er, rounds," Daphne lied giving an innocent smile.
Josh began searching through the compartments for Harry and Ron. Just as the train began its trek back to London, Josh found the two boys in the last car, two compartments in. He entered the compartment and instantly felt the sorrowful and guilty emotions that filled the compartment. "It's pretty chilly in here," Josh said, taking a seat next to Harry. He looked at both boys who were quiet, staring at the floor or out the window. Josh scratched his head, not sure how to start a conversation. Was there anything he could bring up? He wasn't sure. "So big gathering at the Burrow," Josh started, trying to make conversation. "Sounds like fun. Lot's of people are going to be there, so I heard." Ron was the only one who nodded. "Will we be seeing Charlie this year?" Josh asked Ron.
Ron shrugged, looking out the window. "Mum says he'll be there," he answered, "But he usually cancels last second. We'll see."
Josh nodded and turned to Harry. "How are your late night sessions with Dumbledore?" he asked Harry. "Learning any advanced defensive spells yet?"
"No," Harry answered with the shake of his head, "Still just history...about Voldemort." Josh remembered when Harry had mentioned that to him. That Dumbledore was showing Harry memories about Voldemort, his family, where he came from, what he had been doing, among other things. Turns out Voldemort was meant to be evil since he'd been born. Harry didn't say anything else and it became uncomfortably silent.
"Alright, I can't take this uncomfortable silence," Josh blurted out. "What is wrong with you two!?" Harry and Ron turned in confusion towards Josh's outburst. "You're sad, I understand, but don't hold it in! Speak to someone! What the hell is going on in your minds?"
"In case you haven't noticed," Ron began, "My girlfriend died. People we knew, died. Harry's ex-girlfriend, dead. Should we not be like this?"
Josh sighed, suddenly feeling stupid. "No, of course not," he replied. "This really hit you guys hard, didn't it." Ron nodded as Harry looked down. "I understand. I do, but we move on. However long the pain takes, we will move on. We start with those baby steps, we start to heal, and then we take bigger steps, on foot after the other. I'm sorry for your losses. Who could expect something like this to happen." Josh turned to Harry. "And it wasn't your fault."
Harry looked over and saw Josh staring directly at him. "I didn't say it was my fault," Harry said.
"Really? 'Cause you're sure acting like it was," Josh retorted. "Harry mate, whenever something puts us, your friends, in some kind of danger, you take fault for the outcome when you know damn well it wasn't you who hurt us." Harry looked away. "Yes, your friends and family, they love you, and would follow you into a fight. But this isn't just about you or me." Harry turned back to Josh. "Not anymore. It's about stopping a Dark Lord for taking over the world. And me and you, we're just a part of Voldemort's problems."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Harry said blankly.
Josh replied with a shrug. "It's supposed to help you deal with this problem you seem to have with blaming yourself when someone gets hurt or dies. When will you get it through your thick head that it's not your fault. That you weren't the one holding the wand or placing a bomb or distributing the poison. We're under attack because we're at war - "
" - At Hogwarts?" Ron asked, which was a very good point.
"At Hogwarts," Josh repeated, looking pensive. "No, not at Hogwarts, unless..." Josh knew for certain who was terrorizing Hogwarts, but there was no motive that he knew of. Josh was certainly targeted at his birthday, but others were targeted at Slughorn's party. Not particularly Harry or Josh, but just a bunch of random people. Could it be something else? That the motive is much deeper than he knew? Could McGlaggen be...?
"What are you on about?" Ron asked.
Josh looked up at Ron and Harry who were staring at him in confusion. "Look, Harry, what happened was terribly said." Josh spoke, ignoring his current thoughts. "And it's going to continue to happen through life, these unexpected events. We can't control it, and when things like that happens, you don't push your friends away. Especially the ones who care so much about you." Harry glanced away, suddenly feeling guilty. "Keep your friends and family close to your heart, don't push us away. We're here to help you with what you're going through. We want to be here for you. She wants to be here for you." Harry looked up at Josh with a confused look. Josh simply smiled. "Where you like it or not, Potter. You're stuck with us." Josh finished. Harry smiled, looking over to Ron who nodded.
Daphne glanced over to Hermione and Tracey who were both staring out the window. She felt bad for them and only wished them to find their happiness, especially her best friend who has lost so much already. She hoped Ron would overcome his guilt and whatever he was going through so he could confess his feelings to Tracey. Then there was Harry and Hermione. Harry always trying to push his friends away, thinking that'll save them. Everyone knows if you oppose Voldemort and his goons, they'll come after you. It's not all about Harry Potter. "What an idiot," Daphne muttered.
"Who's an idiot?" Tracey asked, turning to her best friend.
"Er, Josh!" Daphne blurted quickly, lying.
"Why is he an idiot?" Hermione asked. "What did he do this time?"
"He hasn't even gotten me a gift this year," Daphne quickly lied, clasping her hands. "Not yet."
"Are you serious?" Tracey said. "It's almost Christmas, how could he have forgotten all about your gift." Daphne shrugged. "I mean, you got him that, no wait, it got destroyed in the explosion." Tracey muttered, looking pensive. "Wait, what did you get him for Christmas?" She curiously asked.
Daphne smiled, blushing a little, "It's a surprise," she answered. "And I'm not going to tell you." Tracey knowingly smiled.
"That is a great gift," Tracey spoke which confused Hermione, "But he will rue the day from me for not getting my best friend a gift that's equally amazing." She huffed. "When I see him, oooooh, I'm going to...Well, I don't know yet, but he'll be sorry."
Daphne and Hermione giggled. "It's okay," Daphne said, "He's been through a lot this year and his mind has been preoccupied, especially with that secret project he's been doing. He still hasn't told me about that." Tracey suddenly looked away. Hermione noticed. "I mean, we all have been through a lot this year, but i feel like it's Josh and Harry who are receiving most of the stress of it." Daphne turned to Hermione. "How are you feeling? Still haven't spoken to Harry?"
Hermione shrugged, "He doesn't want me to talk to him," She replied, "He just wants to be left alone. You know how he is when his friends get hurt. Blames himself." Daphne nodded in understanding. She knew Josh was the same way.
"Just because he's pushing you away, doesn't mean you should let him," Daphne said. "I say, if he does, you stick closer to him. He's confused and conflicted, and what he needs most is for his best friends to stay close to him. You know this Hermione. You've always stuck by his side. Don't stop now." Hermione nodded, biting her lip, trying hard not to cry, but tears began to form in her eyes.
"It pained me so much for what he told me," Hermione sniffed, wiping her eyes. "He's never said anything like that before, and it broke my heart when he did. He sounded so serious about it." Tracey was silent and listening. She had no idea what was going on, and knew something must've happened when she was out. She made a note to ask Daphne about it later. "I wanted to tell him so bad during the party but then it all turned sour. There was no right time to confess. And when I tried to get close to him, he pushed me away. After everything we've been through." Hermione suddenly began to sob, covering her face in her hands. Tracey moved over next to Hermione and pulled her into a hug.
"I know how you feel," she said sadly. Tracey too was going to confess to Ron that night, but everything turned into a mess. She didn't care about his current girlfriend. She needed him to know, though she shouldn't think like that, shaking her head. "I wanted to confess that night too, to Ron. But i didn't get that chance. I didn't even care that he had a girlfriend. Merlin, I shouldn't have said that." Tracey's eyes brimmed with her own tears. "Here I am, pining over a guy who just lost his girlfriend, and all I can think about is how he's free so that I can move in and take her place. Merlin, I'm a bad person. I can't imagine what he's feeling." Then it was Tracey's turn to sob. Daphne looked at her friends and sadness, stepping in front of them to hug them both. She couldn't imagine what they were feeling. She already had the great boyfriend. She too began to sob for her friends, unable to understand what they were feeling.
"Where did this come from?" Ron asked as Josh handed him a bottle of Fireball Whiskey. He also had a few butterbeers in his hand. He had left for a few moments to grab drinks for the confused and guilt ridden boys.
"Borrowed them from Goyle," Josh answered, turning to Harry to hand him a butterbeer, "He's had this stash ever since he lost his best friend and two of his well known housemates this year. He owed me a favor so I asked for a few drinks. Help us take your minds off a few things." Josh turned around to see Ron already taking a gulp of the Fireball Whiskey. "Not all of it!" Josh griped, snatching the whiskey away. "Save some from us!"
Harry finally let out a laugh. "Thank you," he said to Josh, uncorking the butterbeer.
"Hey, we're all going through something," Josh said, handing a butterbeer to Ron and uncorking his. "We could use a drink. Let's toast." Josh raised his butterbeer. Harry followed suit while Ron uncorked his butterbeer and then raised it. "To the ones we lost and to the ones we love."
"Cheers," Ron and Harry said in unison as all three boys clinked their bottles together and then took a long drink. After his gulp, Ron let out a loud gulp with a small fire causing Josh and Harry to snort in laughter. The three boys continued to drink, laugh, and speak of old times to cheer up their moods. They spoke of their shared moments through the years that made them laugh. Josh watched his two friends, enjoying being with them. It had been a while since the three boys hung around and joked around. It felt great and relieving. Even through the worst of times, laughing and being with friends will help give them the push that need to make it to the end of this chapter in life.
"And...and.." Ron howled as Harry and Josh laughed as Ron recounted when his wand was broken. "I was the one who was puking up slugs. I mean, I know I was pigheaded and stubborn, but why would twelve year old me think it was acceptable to go the whole year with a broken wand. Why not ask for a new one!"
"Because you're too afraid of your mother!" Harry joked, "You've got no backbone when it comes to her."
"Right you are, Harry!" Ron laughed, raising his drink in the air and then taking a drink. "She is so terrifying! I'd rather go up against Voldemort than her!" The trio of boys howled with laughter when there was a knock at the door. Their heads turned to see the Trolley lady. "Yes!" Ron said excitedly. "Snacks!" He stood up and opened the compartment door. "Yes, please, I'll have one of everything!" Harry and Josh watched as Ron's arms were filled with snacks, a big goofy grin on his face. Harry paid for the snacks as Ron dumped them on his seat, opting to sit on the floor. He randomly picked out a sweet which happened to be a Jelly Slug. The grin slowly faded away from Ron's face as he stared at the sweet.
Harry and Ron shared a concerned glance. "Are you okay, Ron?" Harry asked.
"These were her favorite," Ron said in a blank tone. "She'd get a lot when we'd go to Honeyduke's." Without warning, tears began to flow down Ron's cheeks. "I don't know what's wrong with me." He sobbed. "I know my girlfriend died, but all I can think about is Tracey." Harry and Josh shared a sad glance. "I feel so guilty for having feelings for this other girl that it feels wrong. I should be mourning for Lavender. I know I should, and then there's the fact that I ran to Tracey instead of Lavender during the poisoning. Maybe I could have helped her if I ran to Lavender instead?" Ron cried, tears streaming down his cheeks harder. "I feel so disgusted with myself right now."
Harry place a hand on Ron's shoulder. "I know how you feel," he said. Ron looked up at Harry. "I know I should be mourning my friends and my ex-girlfriend, but I can't help but think of someone else."
"But is that so selfish?" Josh asked.
"How can it not be?" Harry replied, his eyes now brimmed with tears. "I felt so bad for breaking up with Cho, just so I could be with Hermione." Ron looked wide eyed towards his best friend while Josh gave a knowing smile. He was waiting for Harry to finally realize his feelings and say it out loud. "And she's all I think about and I can't help but feel guilty and ashamed."
"You fancy Hermione?" Ron asked. Harry sniffed and nodded, wiping his nose. "Good luck with that," he scoffed, taking a drink of fire whiskey. Harry stared blankly at Ron for a moment. Josh thought Harry was going to lash out but instead, Harry let out a chuckle that turned into crying laughter. Ron and Josh soon followed with their own laughter.
After a while of crying, Daphne had left and returned minutes later with an armful of sweets and her own bottle of Fireball Whiskey. "Where'd you get that?" Tracey asked, wiping her eyes with a handkerchief.
"From the lady with the trolley," Daphne answered as she dumped the sweets next to Hermione who instantly grabbed one of the chocolate frogs.
Tracey rolled her eyes. "Not the sweets," she said, "The Fireball Whiskey."
"Oh!" Daphne exclaimed, "I saw some fourth years about to open it, so I confiscated it for our use instead. I thought you girls could use a drink."
"You thought right," Tracey said, snatching the bottle away from Daphne, uncorking it, and taking a small drink, feeling the burn go down her throat. She let out a cough which had smoke in it caused by the whiskey. "The burning takes the edge off a bit," she told Hermione.
"You don't have anything lighter?" Hermione asked, looking up at Daphne. "Cherry Wine, perhaps?"
Daphne shook her head. "No, sorry," she answered. "That was the only thing I happen to come across."
"Come on, Hermione, try it," Tracey suggested, holding out the whiskey to Hermione. "Go on, you need it." Hermione glanced at the bottle and then back up at Daphne who nodded. Hermione sighed and accepted the bottle from Tracey who continued to urge her on. In one swift motion, Hermione took one drink of the whisky, feeling the burning slide down her throat. Tracey and Daphne giggled as Hermione held out the bottle, wincing, and coughing up smoke. "There it is," Tracey celebrated as Daphne took the bottle from Hermione. "There's always a first." The trio of girls continued to eat sweets and drink whiskey while reminiscing about their younger years at Hogwarts, giggling and revealing each other things.
"Our first kiss was in fourth year," Daphne remembered as Hermione and Tracey listened. "Remember when Josh saved me from Cyrus sometime after the Yule Ball?" Tracey and Hermione nodded. "Well, we were called up to Dumbledore's office to answer questions, but then after, we talked a little and Josh told me that he couldn't let anything harm me and that he cared so much about me that this wave of love overcame me and I just had to kiss him."
"But you avoided him after," Tracey spoke.
"Because I never kissed a boy before and I wasn't so sure how he felt about me," Daphne replied, and then smiled widely. "But then he told me that that kiss was the best thing that ever happened to him. And that he waited for so long for something like that to happen. It made my heart jump knowing that he felt the same way."
"When was it that you first liked him?" Hermione curiously asked.
"I guess it was about third year," Daphne answered, "When he was mixed with all the stuff going on with Sirius and his mother, and well he was engrossed with the mystery, and I just missed being with him and talking to him and just being close to him. But I was ignorant the next year, because I was so mad at him for abandoning me that it reminded me too much of my childhood friend. I didn't like going through that feeling again."
"If I had known, I would have made him spend time with you guys, he can be so neglectful sometimes," Hermione said, popping some chocolate into her mouth. "I swear, boys can be so thick." Tracey and Daphne nodded in agreement. "But the real mystery is you," Hermione said, pointing to Tracey. "Ron? Really?"
Tracey shrugged. "What? He makes me laugh," She replied, "He might be thick, but he's a great friend, loyal and intuitive. Plus, we both love the Chuddley Canons?"
"You do!?" Hermione and Daphne replied in unison. Daphne knew for sure the Quidditch wasn't that important to her best friend.
"That's what I told him," Tracey smirked with a wink. Daphne and Hermione giggled together. "What about you Hermione? When was it that you knew that Harry was the one you wanted to be with?"
Hermione smiled. "It never occurred to me with my feelings for him until he started dating Cho," she answered, thinking back. "At first, when he told me about their kiss, and I didn't realize it then, but i felt annoyed or maybe jealous at the time, but being the best friend, I supported him. I think it's one of those stories you read, where you heart knew what it wanted but the mind has yet to catch up. I think that's how it was for me and Harry. We've been best friends for so long and we've been there for each other on many different occasions, but the moment I saw Harry and Cho sitting together in the library, laughing and giggling, my stomach churned into jealousy and I just wanted to be the one sitting next to Harry, laughing and giggling and - "
"Snogging?" Tracey suggested.
"Shush you!" Hermione gasped though her cheeks were turning pink.
"So you didn't want to snog him then?" Daphne asked. Hermione blushed harder but nodded. Tracey and Daphne cooed in unison.
The laughter died down a bit as Hermione turned to look out the window. "Though I don't know if I'll get the chance now," she spoke softly.
"Don't be so rash," Daphne spoke, "Harry is smart enough to know when he's in the wrong, and he'll eventually come to his senses. I know you've waited a while for him to really notice you so you two can be together. Just wait a little longer. When the time comes, he'll come to you. And let him come to you. Give him the time to process his feelings. You too!" Daphne turned to Tracey who was in the middle of chewing a piece of candy. Tracey looked back with a curious brow. "Ron is thickheaded. He knows his true feelings, but we have to remember that his girlfriend died. And he's definitely going through some confusing feelings that he's never experienced before." Hermione nodded in agreement. "So I know how impatient you can get, so I'm asking you to be patient."
Tracey huffed, but nodded. She understood, of course. Plus, it wouldn't look good to others when Ron came back to Hogwarts with another girlfriend so soon after the last one died. Right? "Fine," Tracey agreed.
"Like Harry, he will come to you when he's ready," Daphne told, remembering how Ron really felt, but knew he had to be confused after everything. Daphne looked at her two best friends, hoping that soon, their hearts will be fulfilled. Just like hers.
"That is ridiculous," Sirius said through his teeth as he stood on the platform of nine and three quarters waiting for his kids to show up. He was watching a couple of Aurors standing around, goofing off and not paying attention. "They're not even doing a perimeter check or checking for booby traps. This an insult to the DMLE."
"Calm down, Sirius," Sandra said for the third time as she sat on a bench, reading Witch Weekly. "No one's going to attack the train."
"Someone might," Sirius replied, glancing at his wife. "You never know. You always have to be alert and ready in case something happens."
"I know, dear," Sandra replied nonchalantly, flipping through her magazine.
Sirius sat next to his pregnant wife. "This is preposterous," he spoke. "I am going crazy just sitting at home. I need to be out there keeping watch. There could be an attack at any moment." It had been not even two weeks and Sirius had already begun to feel restless. He wanted to be out there on patrol, eyeing potential Death Eaters, looking for clues on the next attack. He didn't want to be stuck on leave. He knew his actions were rash, but weren't they justified. He was always right when he followed his instinct. Always.
Sandra put down her magazine, clasping her hands together, and turned to look at her Husband. "Are you saying you'd rather spend time with Aurors and Death Eaters instead of your own wife?" She accused.
"What? No!" Sirius blurted with wide eyes. That's not what he meant. "No, of course not, sweetie. I'm...just...bored, that's all." Once those words came out of his mouth, Sirius knew he was in for it.
"Oh, so you're bored of me now?" Sandra replied with raised eyebrows.
"No, of course not dear!" Sirius frighteningly said, waving his hands. "That's not what I meant. I mean...You see...Well - "
"Maybe you should just sit quietly," Sandra suggested with a stern look.
"Okay," Sirius said, turning forward and keeping his eyes ahead. After minutes of silence between the Blacks, there was a train whistle signaling that the train had arrived. "Oh thank Merlin," Sirius mumbled as the Hogwarts Express came into view and stopping on the platform. Parents gathered around as the train came to a full stop, and waited for their children to exit the train. Sirius was actually looking forward to see his son and godson. This was their first real Christmas as a whole family, though it wasn't really, was it?
Harry, Ron, and Josh were exiting the train from the last car, making small talk, and stretching out from the long ride. Each boys' eyes were glazed and their cheeks were tinged with pink. "I guess I'll see you guys on Christmas," Ron said. Harry and Josh nodded as they each gave Ron a hug. Ron grabbed his trunk and walked or stumbled into the crowd to find his parents.
Josh grabbed his trunk when he felt Harry's hand on his shoulder. He turned to look at Harry questioningly. "Thanks for the advice," Harry thanked. "i really appreciate it, and you're right. I can't push my friends away because in truth, I need them as much as they need me." Josh nodded in agreement. "And maybe you too should follow your own advice.""I know you're still reeling from Zabini's death," Harry revealed. "I know you're still holding on to him and that you blame yourself for his death."
Josh shrugged. "I blame myself for a lot of things," he muttered.
"Josh," Harry sighed, "Don't think we don't see. We do. You're not the only one who's worried about their friends."
Josh glanced up at Harry and gave a small smile. He knew Harry was right and he still remembered that conversation he had with Blaise, whether it was real or not. Blaise was right too. Josh was still dealing with his best friend's death even though he didn't want to admit it. Even though it was nearly eight months ago, it still felt so fresh to Josh. But it doesn't mean that he's not trying. Dealing with Blaise's death is something Josh needs to do, to heal whatever it is that keeps him blocked. "I know," he replied, "But I'm trying to." Harry nodded with a small smile and a pat on Josh's shoulder.
"There they are!" Josh and Harry turned around to see Daphne, Tracey and Hermione making their wave over to the two boys. Hermione was lagging a little bit behind Tracey and Daphne, feeling shy and confused. Their cheeks were flushed, same as the boys. Daphne walked up to her boyfriend and hugged him tightly. "How was the ride?" she asked.
"It was alright," Josh answered, glancing at Harry who was suddenly looking up, biting his cheek. "We had a...good time. I'll tell you all about it later. How was the ride for you?" He asked, glancing at Hermione who was stealing glances at Harry while Tracey was curiously looking around the platform for a certain redhead.
"I'm sure it was more or less the same like yours," Daphne replied. Josh smiled and inhaled the scent of hot cinnamon and vanilla that came from his girlfriend. Hot cinnamon which smelled very oddly familiar since it too was on his breath.
"Greengrass," Josh gasped, "Were you drinking?"
Daphne smiled, "Just a little," she answered, "I'll tell you about it later."
"Ahem," Harry cleared his throat. Everyone curiously turned his way, and Harry suddenly turned into a shy little boy when he first looked for Platform nine and three quarters. "Hermione," he spoke softly. Tracey, Daphne, and Josh turned their glances towards Hermione.
"Yes?" she said, shyly looking up at Harry.
"Er," Harry began, rubbing the back of his neck. "I know you're visiting your family for the holidays, but I was wondering if you'd like to join us - " He waved indicating him and Josh. " - For a Christmas Gathering on Christmas Day? I mean, if you can or if you're not too busy or anything. Or if you don't show up, that's okay too - "
"Yes," Hermione answered eagerly, and then more calmly after clearing her throat, "Yes, I'd love to be there."
"Great!" Harry said, smiling. "Great." Hermione smiled back as Josh and Daphne shared a knowing look. "I'll see you then."
"Of course," Hermione smiled, hugging him, Daphne, Tracey, and Josh, then leaving to find her parents.
"Alright, well, I guess we should find my parents," Daphne said as Tracey nodded in agreement.
Josh hugged his girlfriend and kissed her on the cheek. "Alright, I'll see you in a few days." Daphne nodded. Josh exchanged a hug and a punch in the arm from Tracey and the two girls left the two boys. Josh turned to Harry. "Shall we?" Harry nodded and followed Josh into the crowd to search for Josh's parents.
"Joshua! Harry!" The two boys snapped to their left to see Sirius and Sandra making their way over to the two boys. Sirius walked up to Harry, giving him a big hug, while Sandra gave Josh a big relieving hug. Josh hugged his mother back, remembering how good it always felt to hug her. Sandra released her son an arms length's away and looked at him. "Joshua Malcolm Black, have you been drinking?" she asked.
Josh suddenly looked like he had been caught trying to steal cookies from the cookie jar. "No," he lied, turning to Harry who was wide-eyed but had his mouth shut. Josh glanced at his father who was giving him and Harry a knowing look.
"Don't lie to me," Sandra said to her son, grabbing him by the chin. "I know the smell of whiskey on a boy's breath." Josh didn't say anything but smiled innocently. Sandra let go of her son, eyeing him suspiciously. "Alright then," she continued. Sandra hugged Harry as Josh and Sirius shook hands. "There she is!" Sandra said. Everyone turned to see Rina smiling and walking up to her family, dragging her trunk behind her. She walked up to Sandra and gave her a big hug. Josh smiled her way. He hadn't seen her a lot earlier in the year. It was her fifth year and he guessed she was focusing on her upcoming exams. She did always focus on her studies. He was glad she became apart of his family. She was so much different that her brother and father. So much different.
After a while traveling home, Josh entered his room, tossing his backpack onto his bed and dropping the trunk at the bottom of his bed. He closed the door and sat down against his bed with a heavy sigh, glancing over to the other bed that preoccupied his room. The bed that belonged to Draco. His heart felt heavy and wondered if he could continue living in this room without Draco. He lost another best friend months after he lost his first one. Not to mention many of the students he considered friends had died merely days ago. Josh reached over to a side table next to his bed, opening the drawer and pulling out a a framed picture. He looked down at the picture which was that of Dumbledore's Army back in fifth year. Collin Creevey had taken the picture and given copies to each member of the Army. It was a big group that consisted of Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws, and Slytherins that were smiling, straightening their ties, or wiping dust away from their clothes to look nice for the picture.
Josh smiled at the picture. Blaise was grinning widely as he had his arms around Josh and Draco. Draco was holding a modest smile while Josh was smiling holding onto Daphne's hand. A tear fell out of Josh's eye. He missed them both. He missed his friends. He especially missed his grandfather. He missed them all. He didn't know when he started crying but it just flowed out of him. Everything Josh was holding in finally came out in sobs and tears. Josh let it happen and cried as hard as he ever had. It felt good. It had been so long since Josh had cried. He finally took his friends' advice to finally let go and try to move on. For the better.
Sirius stood on the other side of his son's door. Hearing the sobs of his son. His hand on the doorknob, unsure if he should go in or wait. He knew all too well how is son felt. He had lost both his best friends in one night and his brother had disappeared during the first war with Voldemort. He almost lost his son and his wife though he was able to push through and finally be there for them. His heart hurt. He hoped that his son wouldn't have go through the same kind of pains he had went through. With the losses and the aspects of war, but it seems as if fate had other plans. Sirius decided it be best to wait for his son to finish crying and to come at a later time to talk with his son, turning to face the worried look on his wife's face. She too could hear her son crying, wanting to run to her son and be the mother she needed to be.
Sirius walked over to his wife, taking her by the hand. "Come, let's cook dinner," he suggested. Sandra worriedly glanced up at her husband and let him lead her down the stairs, towards the kitchen.
Josh slowly opened his eyes and slowly sat up. He was in his darkened room on top of his bed. He didn't remember climbing into bed or getting under the blankets. Last he remembered was that he was laying on the ground when he feel asleep. "Probably wondering how you got there?" a familiar voice asked. Josh looked towards his window to see his father standing and facing the window, looking out the dimly lit London city. He turned and smiled towards his son. "You looked uncomfortable on the floor. Though it be better if you were in bed. How are you feeling?"
Josh thought about it. He somehow felt lighter and invigorated. He didn't feel stressed or overwhelmed. He felt normal. "I feel...better," Josh simply answered. "I don't understand."
Sirius nodded. "You're finally dealing with the pain of it all," he informed, turning back to the window. "You decided not to hold it in anymore. Good." Josh stood out of his bed and walked over to his father, standing next to him. The two were at the same height these days. The only difference between the two was that Josh had shorter hair and a younger looking face. "Back when I was Azkaban. All I could think about was you, your mother, Harry, James, and Lily. I lost all of you in a span of twenty four hours. One day, that was all it took. When I found out my best friends were killed by Voldemort, I was devastated, but I was angry. They were family to me. James took me in when I was kicked out of my home." Josh looked up at his father. This was news to him. He had no idea, which makes sense as to why his father was Harry's Godfather.
"And How do I repay James back? By letting my rage take over to go after Pettigrew. After all the nonsense, I was arrested and sentenced to Azkaban without a trial. That's where I lost you, your mother, and Harry; for twelve years. What happened when I got out? I went after Peter again. I thought i addressed the pain of losing my best friends, my family, once I escaped Azkaban. I guess I didn't. I was still full of rage. And then more nonsense with the rat I still didn't let it go. Until and spent time with my son, my wife, and my godson. You three showed me what was more important, especially when your mother was arrested for helping me. I knew I had to be there for you and Harry." Josh stared out the window. Back then, he was a little harsh towards his father. He was angry that Sirius wasn't around, but he had a decent excuse. Josh didn't understand it until now.
"When I saw Peter back at the Ministry months back, and even after what he did to my wife," Sirius continued. "I didn't want to kill him. I pitied him. I knew James and Lily wouldn't want me to mess up this good thing that had been in front of me the whole time. I just wish I realized sooner." Sirius turned to look at Josh. "But emotions are strange, aren't they?"
Josh gave a nod. "It's what makes us human," he said.
"Exactly," Sirius agreed. "Holding in all those emotions, overwhelm us in ways we can't understand. Sometimes magically. I'll tell you this. The pain never really goes away. It's still here." Sirius pointed at Josh's heart. "So that we don't forget who they were and what they were about. We learn to live with it and it becomes a part of us." Sirius place a hand on his son's shoulders. Josh's eyes brimmed with tears once again. "I know you miss Malcolm, Blaise, Draco, and others as I miss my friends, Regulus, James and Lily. But they didn't die in vain. As long as we keep them in our heart, they will live on." Josh smiled and hugged in father. Sirius hugged his son back, tears forming in his own eyes.
The next couple of days were uneventful for the most part. Josh was a loftier person than usual. He, Harry, and Rina were to help get the place ready for a huge Christmas gathering on Christmas Evening. Since Josh's mother was ready to pop any day now, Sirius didn't allow her to help with cleaning or decorating which fell onto the kids who were happy to help, especially Rina. She had been happier these days considering what was happening out there. She seemed in her element whenever she was home and decorating the house for the party. She had a knack for it. Harry was having a good time as well, though Josh could hear him talking to himself from time to time and if Josh didn't know any better. It sounded as if Harry was practicing his conversing skills. Harry obviously had a certain bushy-haired witch on his mind.
Josh woke up on Christmas morning with a small pile of gifts at the foot of his bed. Josh sat on the floor of his room and began to open his gifts. He had received a assortment of Weasley Wizards Wheezes from the Weasley twins that included a couple of new items; he received a green knitted sweater from Mrs. Weasley with a silver JB stitched into it. He received a pair of ugly socks from Tracey with a note saying that they were charmed to keep his footsteps silent. Josh wasn't sure if this was some kind of prank to get him to wear the ugly socks or not, deciding to try them on later. He received some sweets from Ron and other students from Hogwarts, and then a Curse-Breaking book from Hermione, written by a wizard named Jasper Beetle. Josh never really heard of the woman but couldn't wait to read the book since it was his career choice. He received a onyx steel watch from is parents which had an engraving on the inside. It read: Always Keep Us In Your Heart. Josh smiled thinking back to the conversation he had had with his father. Once Josh was done with his gifts, he realized something. There wasn't a gift from Daphne. This confused Josh as he looked around and under his bed but he was certain there was no gift from his girlfriend. He was sad but then lit up when he remembered she will be here in the evening. Maybe she wanted to give him his gift in person. Josh smiled at the thought and couldn't wait.
There was knock on his door. "Come in." Josh said. The door opened to reveal Rina's head. "Yes?" Josh said, looking at her questioningly.
"You can't be serious?" she said, which confused Josh. Rina opened the door all the way and stepped into Josh's room to reveal the bright yellow dress that she was wearing. This happened to be the gift Josh had given her.
"What's wrong with it?" Josh asked, keeping himself from laughing.
"It's yellow!" Rina exclaimed. "I don't even like yellow!"
"But it looks good on you," Josh replied, stilling keeping from laughing. He thought it did look good on her, but it was his cousin's reaction that made him want to laugh. She looked confused, ashamed, and embarrassed to have it on. It was a very beautiful dress but it was a bright yellow, like the sun.
"And what is this?" Rina asked as she turned around to reveal a large bow on her lower back which did make Josh let out a laugh. He had no idea that was there. "It's not funny! I can't wear this?!"
Josh laughed and stood up, grabbing his wand. "Alright, alright," he said, waving his wand in a circle motion around Rina's body where the dress began to change colors. "How about purple?" he suggested. By the look of Rina's stubborn expression, he thought not. "Blue?"
"Ordinary," Rina commented.
"Red?"
"Too angry."
"Pink?"
"Too girly."
"Grey?"
"You can't be serious?"
"Fine, how about this?" Josh waved his wand one more and this time, the dress changed into a blend of colors from pink to magenta to blue to sky blue. He waved his wand once more to rid Rina of the enormous bow on her back.
Rina looked down at her new dress in awe. "It's beautiful." she gasped. "I love it!" She jumped into Josh's shoulders. "Thank you." Josh smiled and hugged her back. "I have to show your mum!" she said excitedly after she released the hug and ran out of the room.
Hours later, Josh was getting ready for the Christmas party that was being hosted at the Blacks. Everyone was invited. All of the Weasleys, The Greengrasses, Tracey, Hermione, Other Students from Hogwarts, Lupin, Hagrid, the Tonks's, and a couple of workers from the Auror Offices. It was going to be a great party. Josh was dressing in his fanciest casual clothes and wore his watch his parents had given him. He had put all of his new gifts into his backpack for safety. After getting ready, Josh walked downstairs and into the kitchen where there was an amusing sight.
"Will you please let me do this, dear?" Sirius asked, standing next to Sandra who was preparing to food in front of the stove.
"I said no, Sirius!" Sandra snapped, "I can't take it anymore. I need to do this! Just let me make the food, please? Besides, you'll only overcook everything."
Sirius sighed and left his wife alone. "My cooking's not that bad," he muttered as he passed a bemused Josh.
Minutes later, the guests had begun to arrive. The Weasleys, Fleur, and the Tonks' had arrived first. Rina had excitedly ran over to hug her big honorary sister, Dora. Josh was happy to see Ted and Andromeda since it had been over a year since he had seen them. Andromeda and Mrs Weasley had instantly headed for the kitchen once they heard Sandra, who was pregnant, was making dinner and wanted to help her in any way; or as in, take over the job for her. Sirius, Ted, Dora, Arthur, and Bill gathered around to talk as Ginny chatted with Rina, admiring her dress.
Josh, Harry, and Ron gathered, shaking hands and thanking each other for the gifts. "So, Charlie," Josh said, "A no show then?"
Ron shrugged. "I guess," he replied, "Though there was no word from him. He got the invite, but he didn't reply." Josh and Harry nodded in agreement. Soon more guests arrived. Hermione, Hagrid, Lupin, Neville, and Dean had arrived. After their greetings, Lupin and Hagrid joined the adults as Neville and Dean joined the boys. Hermione made her way over to Ginny and Rina, but not before giving a wave to Harry and the others. Harry waved back albeit awkwardly.
"What is up with you?" Ron asked, noticing Harry's awkward wave. "Why are you being weird?"
"Is it because of a certain bushy haired witch?" Josh suggested as Neville and Dean snickered.
"No," Harry scoffed, "I mean, sorta." He let out a breathe. "I'm sorry, I'm nervous. I thought I'd tell Hermione I fancy her tonight."
"Alright," Ron said, patting Harry on the back as the others woo-ed. "How are you going to do it?" Ron asked.
"I don't know," Harry replied with a shrug, "Just tell her that I like her?"
"That's lame," Dean spoke. "You have to woo her. Show her that you fancy her with your actions."
"Bur words can be good, too," Neville put in.
"Depends on how you say it," Josh said. The boys continued with more suggestions of how Harry should approach Hermione with their situation of attraction, nodding in confusion as he was still unsure of how to approach her. Soon, the rest of the guests had arrived including Tracey, Daphne, and her family; and the Christmas gathering had begun and was in full swing.
Once Daphne had arrived in a simple green dress and purse, she glided over to Josh, hugged him, and whispered into his ear, "I have your gift, but I'll give it to you later, somewhere private, okay?" Josh nodded with a smile. Daphne kissed him on the cheek and left him to talk with Hermione with Astoria.
"Hi, Ron," Tracey greeted with a wave and a smile.
"Tracey," Ron nodded, glancing her way with a moderate smile. Tracey's heart dropped hoping to get a little more out of Ron and walked away, not even greeting Josh, Harry, or the others.
"Ron," Josh said, gaining the redhead's attention. "What was that?"
"A greeting?" Ron answered with a shrug. "What more did she want? A song and dance?" Harry and Josh rolled their eyes.
"I know you're not ready to move on with a relationship," Harry began, "But she's still you're friend isn't she?"
Ron sighed through his nose and nodded. "You're right," he said. "I should have been more attentive."
"Hold on a minute," Josh said in feign skepticism. "Did Ron admit he was wrong?!"
"I know, I can't believe it," Harry jokingly added.
"Shut it, you two!" Ron replied, though he was smiling, walking away and up to Tracey. Harry and Josh watched as Ron greeted Tracey properly and even giving her a hug. The two continued to talk and have a nonchalant conversation. Which is how the gathering went. Conversations about everything. Laughing, telling jokes, and reminiscing about the old days. The Weasley twins even put on a little show to test out some harmless new products for everyone to enjoy. The Dinner turned out to be fantastic for everyone, cooked amazingly but all the matrons of the families. Everyone was having a great time, and as it began to get later, some people began to leave. Neville, Dean, Hagrid, The Weasley Twins, Ted, and Andromeda were the first to leave, followed by Sirius's Auror buddies.
Harry eventually got his moment to talk to Hermione, but not before Josh and Ron gave him a little nudge; By nudge, they meant by literally pushing Harry and Hermione underneath the mistletoe. This happened to be Tracey's idea who was happy to help the two get together. Everyone watched as Harry and Hermione shyly looked at each other and giving each other a kiss that would change their lives forever. Josh, Tracey, Daphne, Astoria, Rina, and the Weasleys cheered for them which only embarrassed the two who had to kiss in front of everyone. Harry and Hermione would soon go find somewhere private to talk about what to do next. They ended up heading out to the back porch to talk. While all of the adults were talking in the kitchen, Josh, Ron, Tracey, Daphne, Rina, Astoria, and Ginny were in the sitting room conversing with each other. Soon, Ginny, Astoria, and Rina left to Rina's room, so she could show Ginny and interesting Jinx book she had received from her Uncle Sirius.
Daphne leaned over into Josh's ear. "Are you read for your gift?" she whispered. Josh smiled and nodded. Daphne took her boyfriend by the hand and led him to his room, passing Tracey who had a knowing smile on her face.
Tracey turned to Ron who was quiet, nursing a butterbeer and she suddenly decided to risk it all. "You know I fancy you," she said at once, without a second thought.
Ron turned wide-eyed as his heart began to beat faster. Butterflies suddenly filled his stomach. He turned to look at Tracey who was lovingly staring at him. He swallowed. He wanted nothing more to tell her that very same thing, but he couldn't. He knew he couldn't, at least not now. He sighed sadly. "Tracey," he began, and by the tone of his voice Tracey knew as her heart dropped.
"I know," Tracey replied, suddenly sad. "But when?" she asked, looking up into his eyes.
Ron gave a small smile and took her hand. "I don't know," he answered, and then gave her hand a squeeze. "Possibly sooner than you think." Tracey smiled and nodded. As long as he was in her life, then she could wait.
Meanwhile, Daphne led Josh into his room, closing his door and locking it. Josh sat on his bed feeling like a giddy ten year old. He couldn't wait to to see what it was that his girlfriend had gotten him for Christmas. Daphne sat next to her boyfriend, smiling. "Josh, I love you so much," she said. Josh smiled widely as his heart filled with warmth and passion, but before he could reply, she continued. "What do you get the guy you're deeply in love with and nothing else can compare. You're so smart and very adept at magic, what book or magical item could I get you that you wouldn't even need. I thought long and hard about what to give you. And I wanted to give you something special and priceless. Something you'll always remember."
Josh's heart beat in excitement, holding out his hands. "What is it?" he asked. Daphne smiled, taking his hands in hers, pushing them onto his lap. Josh was confused by this action.
"It's not some item you use," Daphne replied. "This gift is something you keep with you, in here." She placed her hand on Josh's heart. Josh was confused and he stared into Daphne's loving eyes. Daphne reached up and touched his cheek. "I love you so much, Joshua Black."
"I love you too, Daphne," Josh replied, feeling the love fill he heart. He leaned down and kissed his girlfriend. The kiss suddenly grew deeper between the two, as Josh gently pushed Daphne back onto the bed, still kissing deeply. Josh ran his hands up Daphne's back as she ran her hands through his hair. Josh let go of the kiss to look into the eyes of his girlfriend, and he knew what gift she wanted to give him. Daphne stared back, her eyes full of love and something else. Daphne leaned up and continued to kiss Josh. She kissed him deep and hungrily, moaning with pleasure. Josh replied with the same passion of kissing. He didn't notice Daphne unbuttoning his shirt or that he was unzipping her dress from behind. They were in the heat of passion and nothing could stop them right.
Suddenly there were screams and shouts from downstairs that suddenly startled the couple and broke them apart. Josh and Daphne were breathing heavily, cheeks flushed, and hearts beating rapidly. Josh had a look of disappointment, as did Daphne who wanted nothing more to continued, but they knew they couldn't.
"Josh!"
Josh groaned as he pushed himself off of his girlfriend, and was about to leave when, "Wait!" Daphne gasped, hopping up to fix Josh's shirt by buttoning it back up. Josh leaned down and gave her another deep kiss while zipping up her dress. He really didn't want to let go, neither did she.
"Josh!"
Josh released the kiss and groaned in frustration. "Alright!" The two exited Josh's room where Rina, Astoria, and Ginny had passed and made their way downstairs. Josh and Daphne quickly made their way downstairs, passed the empty sitting room, and into the kitchen where everyone seemed to be gathered. "Alright," he said as he pushed through the small crowd. "What's so crazy that you have to call me down - " Josh stared wide-eyed as he saw him mother leaned over, holding onto her belly in pain. Sirius standing next to his wife, looked up at his son with a huge grin.
"He's coming!" He spoke with excitement. Sandra suddenly let out a loud groan of pain.
"I think we should get her to St. Mungo's!" Mrs. Weasley suggested. Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Good idea, Molly," Sirius agreed as he put his arms around his wife. 'Come along, darling, we're going to St. Mungo's!" Sandra nodded as she was led through the kitchen by her husband. "Excuse me!" Sirius bellowed in excitement. "Pregnant wife coming through!" Everyone made way for Sirius and Sandra. Josh and Rina were following close behind. "You're all welcome to come along, but please no crowding!" Suddenly, once they were in the sitting room the lights went out in an instant the all of the windows of the house exploded inward.
A/N 2: How'd you like that? Eh? Sorry for any grammatical errors. I hope you liked this one. The baby is coming but they were interrupted. You have any baby names? I might. Maybe yours are better. Review if you want. It is greatly appreciated though. It keeps me motivated.
