Episode 7: Daze in the Sun
Tom and Jerry were up early on Monday. It was officially spring break for the children of the city, and they were hoping that the day would be as fun-filled as Sunday. When Robyn woke up, she gave her two pets a hug and even gave Jerry a little nuzzle before cuddling him to her cheek. Then her father entered the room with a very bright smile.
"Good morning, my little shooting star," Mr. Starling said to his daughter.
"Morning, Daddy," replied Robyn as she hugged her father. Then she said, "What's happening?"
Mr. Starling smiled in response and said, "Since your spring break is here, sweetheart, I've decided that we'll be taking some time at the seaside. We'll be spending a whole week on the beach in a beach house which I recently purchased."
Robyn's eyes lit up with excitement and she said, "Really?"
"Absolutely, honey," Mr. Starling told her. "And Tom and Jerry are more than welcome to come along. They are your pets, after all."
Robyn could hardly believe her ears. She hugged her father and thanked him very happily. Then as Mr. Starling went to his room to pack for the trip, Robyn immediately began pulling out items from her closet including her swimsuit, beach towel, sunscreen, and then she began selecting books from her shelf.
Tom and Jerry had heard what the plans for spring break were, and they immediately packed small suitcases of their own for the trip. When they were in the car, Tom and Jerry were chatting quietly with Robyn about their personal activities to enjoy on the break.
"I wouldn't say no to a fashionable boat ride," said Tom.
"Sounds fun to me. I bet the food they serve at the boardwalk is especially good," wondered Jerry.
Robyn said, "All I know is that this spring break is going to be the best yet, now that I'm with my daddy again and I have you two."
...
After a long drive, Tom and Jerry and the Starlings arrived at the beach where their new beach house stood. They brought their travel packs inside, and then took in the pleasantness of their beachside property. The beach house that Mr. Starling had purchased was quite cheap by comparison to the family's considerable wealth, but it was remarkably well-made and featured a fully stocked kitchen, a delicately designed washroom, and two beds that were as comfortable as could be.
"This place is amazing," mused Tom. "Jerry and I never had the chance to enjoy a beach house properly before we met you, Robyn."
"Well, I never got to enjoy a beach house at all when Aunt Figg had control of the house," replied Robyn with a grin. "But from here on in, it's smooth sailing, I guess."
Tom and Jerry shared a hearty laugh with their young owner, and after a brief consideration of choices to begin their week by the sea, they decided to begin their spring fun on the beach. In a few moments, Robyn was in her red swimsuit while Tom and Jerry were in cat and mouse-size swim trunks, and then the family was on the beach and relaxing under an umbrella. Tom and Jerry chatted with Robyn over a drink of lemonade, and then they watched as Robyn and her father played together in the sea. Feeling the urge to join them, Tom and Jerry hopped into the water and began enjoying a good swim, although Jerry had to stand on Tom's head to avoid being swept away in the waves. That same day, Tom and Jerry went with Robyn and her father to the ice cream parlor, where they shared a large sundae between the four of them, and then Robyn and her father brought food back to the beach house from a fashionable seaside restaurant: the Blue Crab Shanty Grill.
At the end of the day, Robyn kissed her beloved pets Tom and Jerry good night and snuggled into her bed, dreaming of the next few days of spring break to come. Tom and Jerry and Robyn were not disappointed, either.
Tuesday began at the beach followed by a local museum on the old town fishery business, and it ended with a river tour by boat. Wednesday was a bit rainy, so a visit to the beach was out of the question, but the group did pay a visit to a science museum in town. For the rest of the trip, it was perfectly sunny and clear, and Tom and Jerry had more fun to enjoy with Robyn and her father. On their way back home to Starling Mansion, the cat-and-mouse duo had one thought on their minds: "Could life get any more pleasant?"
