Episode 10: Dog Day
Tom and Jerry couldn't be happier spending the day at Starling Mansion while Robyn was at school and her father away at work. They spent some time enjoying the television in the family room, reading in Robyn's bedroom, and relaxing on the sundeck. However, the day quickly became more interesting when they noticed that new neighbors were moving into the house next to the mansion.
The cat and mouse duo watched as the new couple moved furniture, clothes, and belongings indoors one at a time. However, when they were about to resume their activities while Robyn and her father were away, Tom spotted something that made him gulp nervously.
"Jerry, look," he shuddered.
Jerry looked over at the neighboring yard and saw a big gray bulldog setting his doghouse properly on the ground. He realized right away who this dog was: Spike the bulldog. Jerry understood why Tom was so nervous, for he had often gotten Tom in trouble with the gruff dog during their usual chases. He and Tom weren't so stuck with their old habits ever since young Robyn took them into her care, but it was clear that they would have to show this to Spike if they met anytime soon.
"Something tells me we should watch our steps, Tom," said Jerry with a concerned look.
"Should we tell Robyn?" wondered Tom.
"No. She and her father will notice before we can."
Jerry's assumption was correct, for when Robyn came home from school, she noticed the new neighbors finishing the last of their unpacking while Spike dozed in his doghouse undisturbed. She didn't recognize the bulldog and thought it best not to disturb the creature. When Robyn entered the mansion, she was greeted by Tom and Jerry, who gave her a warm hug and let her scratch them behind their ears.
"Hi, boys. What's going on?"
Jerry hopped into Robyn's little hands and said, "Robyn, we have new neighbors moving in!"
"And they brought Spike as well!" added Tom.
Robyn was confused, for she had never heard Tom and Jerry mention anyone by that name. She came to the window to get a look at what was going on, and when she saw who Spike was, the poor young girl felt shivers running down her back.
"So this is Spike," she said nervously. "He doesn't look so friendly to me."
Tom wrapped his tail around himself and replied, "Yeah. Jerry and I have a history with him."
"But don't you worry, Robyn. As long as we don't do anything that's totally crazy or mean, he should be able to get along well with us.
It was a splendid idea, and they would get the chance to put it into action very soon. When Tom and Jerry were outside strolling with Robyn after her father came home from work, Spike happened to be out and about as well, roaming about the yard. He had just received his bone and was about to bury it when he noticed the cat-and-mouse duo coming up the walk.
"Well, I'll be," the gray bulldog murmured to himself. "The mouse and the pussycat in this neighborhood?"
Spike approached Tom and Jerry, who suddenly stood still. When Spike drew near, he said to the two, "How are you two doing?"
"Very well, thank you," replied Jerry with a bow.
"We haven't seen you in months, Spike. What's going on?" inquired Tom.
And so Spike told Tom and Jerry about how his owners had eventually saved enough money to move out of the suburbs of the tri-county area and had moved here to the big city. They had purchased a fine house with plenty of room to settle into, and this was to be Spike's new home. Then Spike noticed Robyn and said, "Well, hello. Who is this?"
"I'm Robyn, Tom and Jerry's new owner," the young girl said warmly. "I live next door in that big mansion. Just me, my two little pets here, and my daddy."
Tom and Jerry told Spike about how they had met Robyn and helped reunite her with her billionaire father, thereby saving Robyn and her fortune from her greedy Aunt Figg. If Spike was jealous, he didn't show it at all, and Tom and Jerry were enjoying themselves very much now that Spike clearly saw them as friends. Soon, Robyn was introduced to the new neighbors, and she and her father enjoyed an afternoon tea with the couple while Tom and Jerry played around with Spike all afternoon.
