Groaning, crying in anguish, but still alive, still holding on.

Kuri felt it when her power snapped, when she couldn't hold his pain any longer, when her resolve failed her.

Her vision went white, and she felt a white hot poker of rage slice through her…and then, nothing.

She gathered herself, and ran to Anteiku. She knew Yoshimura already had a plan, so she wouldn't have to run to Kaneki's aid all alone.

Even so, moving, walking, running—it wasn't fast enough. Even supplementing her power, she wasn't fast, wasn't going to make it before Kaneki was destroyed.

Bodies blurred as she knocked the ghouls away. She wasn't really thinking about it, they were just IN THE WAY.

If they were hurt, if they died, it didn't matter. Only Kaneki mattered; and she'd easily burn the world to save him.

As she threw herself in the room, she could already smell the blood.

"Kaneki?! KANEKI!" She sank to the floor, hands pooling in his blood.

Someone was talking to her. How dare they speak when he was dead?!

Her feathers launched, and then halted. That voice! That low, soft, unbelievably wonderful voice!

"Kuri." Kaneki looked down at her. His Kagune was out, he was soaked in ghoul blood, and it was on his mouth. So, at last, he had eaten.

Kuri said nothing at first, concentrating on getting to her feet. Then she launched herself at him, knocking his kagune out of the way when it came to his defense.

When she was safely in his arms, they both whispered at the same time, in awestruck relief,

"You're alive!"
