Hello, welcome to a new chapter of FTNT and I hope you enjoy it.
Humandragon – Thank you so much. Your support means a lot to me.
Djinn – Thanks a lot. A lot of people (by which I mean two people including you) seem to like the idea of a filler chapter. I hope you like it.
Danielsnow – I'm glad you like the filler chapter idea. It's a good blend of humour and fluff so I hope you like it. I think Night Terror showing his emotions will be a gradual thing, especially as more and more people start talking to him. Thank you so much.
Linkonpark100 – Pretty much. I like to think Erza's character had a drastic change at the Tower of Heaven so it would a be turning point in Night's and Erza's relationship.
Rjv – Aww, thank you so much. I need to make sure they get more screen time together.
Rowletts and Oshawotts – First of all, I love your username. Oshawotts are one of my favourites. Secondly, I'm so glad you like it so far.
Swoogan - Yeah, but it all turned out well in the end.
Thanks for the reviews.
Enjoy :)
Chapter 8: An Unexpected Date
The Strauss Household, Magnolia
It was nearing mid-day when Night Terror approached Mirajane's house. It was and an odd and vague request she gave him, but Night Terror didn't think much of it.
With one claw, Night Terror tapped gently on the terrace house door and waited for somebody to open it. Soon the door swung open to reveal Elfman who gave Night Terror a bemused look.
"Night Terror, how can I help you?" he asked curiously.
"Good morning, Mr Elfman," Night Terror greeted politely, "Miss Mirajane requested my presence today. Is she in?"
Elfman stiffened at what he said, before he frowned angrily. Night Terror may be a fellow guild member and had helped them in the past, but there was no way he was allowing his sisters be alone with a man without proving themselves.
"Listen here," Elfman snarled, making Night Terror raised an eyebrow in confusion, "nobody is going to date my sisters without proving how much of a man there are. Mirajane is not leaving this house until-"
Thwack!
Elfman instantly fell on to the ground unconscious as an angry Mirajane loomed over him whilst holding a picnic basket.
"I don't need your permission to do anything Elfman and neither does Lisanna," Mirajane crossly said as she stepped over her brother's body.
She looked up at Night Terror with a bright smile.
"Good morning, Night," she cheerily greeted.
"Good morning, Miss Mirajane," he looked at the still passed out Elfman, "is he-"
"He's fine," Mirajane quickly answered, "he just needs to be taught a lesson."
"...of course," Night Terror hesitantly said, "You mentioned that you needed help with restocking yesterday. Is that what we will be doing?"
"Err...well actually it turns out we are fine with that," Mirajane told him with a small blush, "I was wondering if you like to have a picnic with me...and then we can go shopping," she said as she shyly played with end of her hair.
Night Terror was slightly surprised by this. He had always assumed Mirajane was afraid of him, judging by her accelerated heartbeat whenever she was near him.
'This is strange,' Night Terror thought, 'why would she...' it suddenly dawned on him, '...of course, that explains everything. She must be...trying to conquer her fear of me,' he thought proudly, 'why did she not tell me earlier. I would have been more than happy to help her.'
"Miss Mirajane, that sounds like a wonderful idea," Night Terror told her.
"Really?" Mirajane said as her face brightened in delight.
"Indeed,' Night Terror said with a nod, "I know a lovely spot near the forest."
"Great," she said before she hooked her free arm with Night Terror's much to his embarrassment, "Lisanna, I'm going now," she called back into the house before leading Night Terror away.
Lisanna stepped over her brother and waved to them goodbye, "Bye, you two have fun."
Night Terror timidly waved back at Lisanna before looking down at his and Mirajane's locked arms.
'Miss Mirajane is rather close. I have seen...what is the word...oh yes couples. I have seen couples do this. It feels...nice,' he thought with a blush before he shook the thought away, 'stop it, you gòrach. She is obviously taking an extreme approach to her training. She does not need your perverted thoughts. I should praise her on her progress."
"Miss Mirajane," Night Terror said making her look up at him, "you are being very daring."
"Oh," Mirajane said anxiously as she looked down at their arms, "do you want me to let go?"
"On the contrary, Miss Mirajane," Night Terror denied, thinking that he had dissuaded her, "I believe that it is appropriate for the situation."
Mirajane gasped slightly in joy, 'He thinks this is a date as well,' she thought in delight, "Great, I'm so happy you think that," she said with the brightest smile she can muster.
Lisanna watched them with a happy smile before she was suddenly grabbed and pulled away by Elfman.
"Hey what are you doing?" Lisanna demanded as she was dragged away.
"We are following them. It would be unmanly of me to leave my sister with another man," Elfman explained as they followed them secretly.
"I know that, but why are you dragging me?" Lisanna asked crossly.
Elfman stopped and turned to his sister.
"I thought you wanted to come along," he simply said.
"Not at the expense of my life!" Lisanna exclaimed, "what would happen if Mirajane catches us!?"
"She won't," Elfman insisted as she dragged her away again, "we will be sneaky."
Lisanna rolled her eyes, "Oh yeah, I'm sure Mirajane would not spot the six foot pile of muscle and her white haired sister following her," she sarcastically muttered.
"See, now you're talking like a man," Elfman said not getting her sarcasm.
Lisanna sighed in annoyance.
Edge of the Forest
Mirajane and Night Terror sat on a blanket under a large tree. There were a few people already there, taking advantage of the nice weather, but they promptly left as Night Terror arrived. He was used to it though and Mirajane preferred them to be alone together. She thought it might make it easier to talk to him without anybody around.
She was wrong.
"…so…err…yeah…mmm…err" Mirajane stammered awkwardly, trying to start a conversation with Night Terror.
Ever since they sat down, the Phobos has been waiting patiently for Mirajane to begin her sentence. He didn't want to rudely interrupt her, but it was starting to get painful to be in the situation.
'Just say anything!' Mirajane screamed in her head, 'Literally anything! He's going to think I'm stupid if I can't say a single sophisticated word to him!'
She had been on the receiving end of every pickup line, flirtation attempt and shy comment by hundreds of men, both drunk and sober, for years and have swiftly denied them all. However, she had never been the one to initiate one herself. She had spent most of last night practising in the bathroom mirror all potential conversation topics, but now that it was the real thing, she has stage fright.
'Lucy makes this look so easy,' she internally complained.
Night Terror decided to take sympathy on her, thinking that she was struggling to get over her fear.
"How are do you like the new guitar?" Night Terror asked, making Mirajane smile.
'Thank you, Night Terror,' Mirajane thought in relief.
She looked up at him with a bright smile, "It's good."
….
….
….
….
"Oh…well, I'm glad to hear that," Night Terror said when Mirajane didn't continue, "I was worried it was the wrong make. I would love to hear you play sometime. Would that be a problem?"
Mirajane smile wavered slightly, "No."
….
….
….
….
Another uncomfortable silence fell between them.
"Excellent," Night Terror said unsurely, "What…is it like working behind the bar all day? It must be tiring work."
Mirajane started to sweat in panic, "It is."
….
….
….
….
Night Terror sweat dropped at the lack of response, 'I don't think this is working,' he thought with a concerned frown.
Meanwhile, Mirajane may have been keeping a cool visage, but internally she was panicking.
'Are you kidding me! He asked me three questions and I barely gave him three word answers! My mind has gone completely blank! This was a bad idea! I'm so hopeless!' she thought in despair, trying to find a way to leave.
From afar, Elfman and Lisanna were watching what was going on behind a bush, suffering from second-hand embarrassment.
"You were right to be worried, Elfman," Lisanna said with a worried frown, "but not for the reason you hoped for."
Elfman scowled in confusion, "Why can't Mira man up and talk to him? Is he threatening her!?"
He made to stand up and confront Night Terror, but Lisanna grabbed his collar and pulled him to the ground.
"Elfman, if Mira finds out we have been the whole time, she will kill us," Lisanna hissed, "I believe in her; just be patient."
Elfman grumbled reluctantly but listened to his sister.
Mirajane was about to make some sort of excuse to get away when the image of Lucy popped into her head. She saw how easily she talked to him. Sitting at his table, going on jobs together, she even started calling him Night instead of his full name.
It was unfair. She has liked Night Terror ever since he saved Lisanna from nearly being killed and it has taken her years to work up the courage to speak to him.
She will not lose to Lucy, but how can she win if she couldn't even hold a conversation with him.
She then realised something, 'Wait a minute, I don't have to have a conversation with him. I just need him to talk to me,' she thought happily.
"Miss Mirajane are you well?" he asked worriedly.
She has been looking down at the ground for a while now and he was starting to get concerned. In response to his question, Mirajane sat up and smiled cheerily at him.
"I'm perfectly fine," she replied, "Night, can you tell me a story?" she requested much to his surprise.
"A story?" he repeated in confusion.
"Yes," Mirajane confirmed with a gentle nod, "Lucy has told me that the Phobos have stories about their Clan. Do you mind telling me one?"
Night Terror was slightly stunned for a moment but smiled happily from under his hood.
'This must be part of her training,' he thought, clueless to what was actually going on, "I will be honoured, Miss Mirajane. Is there a genre that you would prefer?"
Mirajne was slightly surprised that were different genres, but smiled happily, nonetheless.
"Do you have any," she blushed nervously, "romantic stories?" she asked.
Night Terror blushed as well, which was luckily concealed from under his hood. Unsurprisingly, the Phobos are not knowledgeable in romance. It's not like they are incapable of being romantic or doing any romantic gestures, it's just not their specialism and tend to get shy about it.
"W-well I do know one," he told her, much to Mirajane's delight, "it's called Sgeulachd Bean Na Bainnse," he told her.
He noticed Mirajane's odd expression when he told her the title.
"Or the Story of the Princess Bride," he told her, "Sorry, Timorin is not known for its elegance," he apologised awkwardly.
Mirajane giggled and listened to the story.
Sgeulachd Bean Na Bainnse
Or the Story of the Princess Bride
Long ago,
A Phobos belong to the kin of Beathach arrived at city ruled over by a daonna prince,
From his palace balcony the prince saw the Beathach in the marketsquare,
He saw how frightened his people were of the Beathach and thought of an idea.
He had the Beathach summoned to his court,
The prince proposed a quest for the Beatach,
For the Prince was to marry a princess from a different kingdom but she had no attendants to help her cross the sea that separates their kingdoms,
The prince had requested the Beatach to accompany the princess so that they could marry.
The Beatach agreed and set off on his journey,
He soon arrived at the kingdom and met the princess bride,
She was one of the most beautiful women the Beatach had ever met,
Long hair as dark as the night sky, skin as pure as Geamhradh's snow and eyes of the bluest lapis lazuli gems,
Wise, intelligent and kind to her people, the princess greeted the Beatach gratuitously and without fear of him.
The Beatach was enamoured by the princess bride,
For not only was she beautiful, but humble, noble, strong and held the values associated with the Clan,
However, since she was to be wed to the prince, he had said nothing of his feelings for her.
They voyage to the prince's kingdom,
The Beatach protected the princess from harm while the princess conversed with him,
They talked, laughed and enjoyed each other's company,
They were saddened when their journey had come to an end.
Before she left to marry the prince, the princess bride gave the Beathach a letter for him to read once he left,
In the letter, the princess confessed her love for the Beathach and how she did not want to marry the prince,
Shocked by this revelation, the Beathach transformed into a raven and flew to the tower the princess was kept in.
With his beak, he tapped on the princess's window and she let him inside her chambers,
He transformed into his true form and confessed his love for her as well,
However, he had to question why she did not want to marry the prince.
The princess bride sighed and explained to the Beatach that her father had forced her to marry the prince,
This was known as an arranged marriage, o reader,
Although it seems unusual to us the Phobos,
It is common occurrence for the royalty of the outside lands.
Appalled, the Beathach offered the princess an escape from a loveless marriage,
The princess agreed happily and the Beathach transformed himself into a mighty Eun Bàs and the princess climbed onto his feathered back,
Stretching his wings, the Beathach leapt through the window and carried the princess out of the prince's kingdom.
The Beathach smiled as the princess laughed happily at her escape,
He asked the princess where he should take her,
The princess stroked his back and told him to take her where she is happiest the most,
Confused, the Beathach questioned her where that was,
'Wherever thou are,' the princess replied, 'that is where I am the happy the most.'
The Beathach's heart skipped and they flew back to the Island of Fear,
The Phobos welcomes her and they married soon after,
And they lived happily ever after.
"That's so sweet," Mirajane cooed as Night Terror finished the tale, "and they really lived happily?"
"Indeed," Night Terror confirmed, "it is one of our more...nicer stories."
Mirajane nodded, "What's a Eun Bàs?" she asked.
"It is a bird that inhabited the Island of Fear," Night Terror answered, "it is known for picking up ships that come too close to the island with its talons, dropping them on rocks and eating the sailors."
...
...
...
...
"Sorry did I ruin the mood," Night Terror said apologetically, making Mirajane giggle.
Mirajane smiled before she looked down nervously, "Night...what do you think of me?" she shyly asked.
Mirajane had no idea why she asked him that. Maybe the story inspired her to take a leap of faith. If the princess could be with a Phobos then why can't she. But first she needed to know what he thought of her.
"I believe you are one of the strongest people I have ever met," Night Terror answered honestly, surprising Mirajane.
"You do?" she questioned, "But what about Erza?"
Night Terror chuckled, "The Phobos Clan believe there are two types of strength: strength of the body and strength of the soul. The strength of the body is physical and magical power which you and Miss Erza excel at. However, I am afraid that Miss Erza lacks in the strength of the soul or the internal power to withstand any challenge. It is clear that her past still haunts her, but you, Miss Mirajane, are very strong. Despite the troubles in your past, your strength of the soul has grown steadfast. You are able to smile, laugh and become content with your guild mates and do not let problems anchor you down. That is why I believe you are one the strongest people I have ever met."
Mirajane was stunned by his explanation. She never knew he thought of her like that. Her heart fluttered as she felt more confident in talking to Night Terror. The story had taught her that Phobos are straight to the point when it came to love confessions and that's exactly what she needed to do.
"Night," she said, catching his attention.
"Yes, Miss Mirajane," the Phobos replied curiously.
Mirajane took a deep breath and summoning all her strength she said, "I-"
A loud gasp followed by a hushed voice telling it to be quiet interrupted Mirajane. The white haired woman maintained a sweet smile, but it was clear by her demonic aura and the tick marks on her forehead that the smile was false.
"Can you excuse me for just one moment, Night," she told him kindly.
Night Terror frowned in confusion, "Of course," he said as she stood up turned 180 degrees and walked daintily, but fiercely towards a bush.
"Why did you gasp like that?" Elfman whispered frantically to his sister.
"I couldn't help it," Lisanna whispered back as she held a hand over her mouth, "she was totally going to confess."
"Confess?" Elfman repeated, "confess what?"
They both felt something grip their heads tightly, making them gulp in fear.
"I don't think that's any of your business, brother dear," Mirajane sweetly said from above them.
The brother and sister looked up to see their elder sister looming over them, emitting a dangerous aura. They have known her long enough to know that she was seriously pissed off.
"Err...hi Mira," Lisanna greeted as nervous sweat poured down her face, "we...were just..."
Elfman pointed to Lisanna in panic, "She made me come," he falsely accused, making Lisanna angrily turn to him.
"No, I didn't! Your the one who dragged me here!" Lisanna shouted at her brother, making him whimper in fear.
Mirajane suddenly grabbed the scruffs of their collars and began dragging them on the hard ground deeper into the forest.
"Why don't we have a talk about privacy," Mirajane suggested with a malicious giggle, "you know...sibling to sibling."
Lisanna and Elfman tried to get away, but she had a tight grip on them and soon their screams will be heard throughout the forest.
"I wonder what she is doing?" Night Terror mused innocently
"Oh woe is me!" a voice complained from afar, "why oh why me!"
Night Terror tuned to the direction that voice was coming from and was surprised to see Charlie Daniels, the dramatic man who gave him the guitar, walking along the treeline. He seemed to be in a sombre mood, dragging his feet and shaking his head sadly as he walked closer to Night Terror.
"Why do bad things happen to Charlie Daniels!?" he cried loudly, "Why!? Why!?"
"Good day, Mr Daniels," Night Terror greeted the man, making him scream in fright and almost fell over.
Once he recovered, he looked towards Night Terror who gave him a small wave.
"Oh, it's you Devil," Charlie said, causing the Phobos to sigh.
"I prefer to be called Night Terror," he corrected, "I see Miss Ophelia denied your advances once more."
Charlie shrugged, "I'm over her. I prefer my women with no emotional baggage," he told him uncaringly.
Night Terror frowned, 'I do not believe you can call her family "emotional baggage",' he thought, "Then why were you preaching your unfortune?" he asked the strange man.
Charlie raised an umbrella he had in his hand, "I thought it was going to rain and now I have to carry this all day," he explained, making Night Terror sweat drop.
'He never ceases to astonish me,' he thought, 'although I have to admit that is quite annoying.'
"So, what are you doing devil?" Charlie asked accusingly, "doing something evil, no doubt."
"I am having a picnic with a friend."
"An evil picnic?"
"A normal picnic."
"Oh," Charlie uttered, a little disappointed with the answer.
"I would invite you to join us, but it will be best if I asked Miss Mirajane fir-"
"Did you say Mirajane?" Charlie demanded, getting into Night Terror's personal space, "as in Mirajane Strauss the famous model for Sorcerer's Weekly!"
Night Terror was taken back by this, "Well, I do not read tabloid magazines, but yes I suppose."
Charlie fell to his knees and started punching the ground in distress.
"Why!? Why must the sexiest girl in Fiore be taken by the devil!? Why can't she go on a date with me!?" he shouted to nobody. Night Terror could have sworn that there were tears in his eyes.
"Miss Mirajane is a woman, not a girl," he crossly said before cocking his head to the side, "Also what is a date?" Night Terror asked in confusion.
Night Terror was definitely sure tears were in Charlie's eyes now.
"An outing between lovers!" he shouted in reply before going back to his grumbling.
'A-an outing between lovers,' Night Terror thought in shock as he blushed shyly, 'but that cannot be what we are doing right n-' he rethought about the days events, how she held onto his arm, the picnic, requesting a romantic story, 'Daingead, what happens if this is a date! I have been completely informal with Miss Mirajane. I had not complimented on her dress or her appearance. And I haven't brought her any flowers. She must think I am awful!' he thought, using all his knowledge of dating from reading the terrible romance books Erza accidently leaves at the guild.
"YOU!" Charlie proclaimed furiously as he pointed his umbrella accusingly at Night Terror, "I challenge you to a dual devil! The winner shall receive the hand of Mirajane! What do you say to that!"
Night Terror turned to Charlie angrily, "Well firstly, Miss Mirajane is not a prize to win. She is my friend and by insulting her, you insult me. Secondly, you are old enough to be her father."
"Ah I see…," Charlie said with a wide grin.
"I sincerely doubt it," Night Terror sighed.
"You are a coward," Charlie mocked as he started to laugh, "well cowardly Devil, I shall be the courteous one and let you have first strike."
"How kind of you," Night Terror said before he grabbed Charlie with a tendril of darkness and threw him over the forest.
Night Terror heard him scream as he sailed through the sky before he collided painfully into a tree somewhere in the forest.
"Looks like I won," Night Terror told himself.
"Night, I'm back!" the voice of Mirajane caught his attention as she ran up to him with broad smile.
Night Terror blushed once more at the sight of her, but he managed to maintain his calm demeanour.
"Miss Mirajane is everything all right. Why did you leave?" he asked curiosly.
"Oh no reason. I was just dealing with some pests," she explained with a small giggle, "should we go shopping now?"
"Of course," Night Terror said as he used his shadows to repack the picnic basket, "what will we be shopping for?"
"Oh, you'll see," she told him as she held his arm once more.
The two started to make their way back to Magnolia to continue their day. Night Terror looked down at her beautiful smiling face.
"Miss Mirajane," Night Terror said, making her look up at him, "you look lovely today," he complimented.
Mirajane was briefly stunned by what he said before her face lit up in a bright blush.
"Thank you, Night," she said ecstatically as she hugged his arm tighter.
Night Terror smiled to himself, 'Nailed it,' he thought as they crossed a stone bridge into town.
Magnolia Town Market
The two guild members walked through the busy market with Night Terror using his Dall Ri Eagal to not frighten people. They mainly window shopped and talked about which items they liked to buy and enjoyed each other's company.
From around a corner, a beaten up Elfman and Lisanna watched them vigilantly. Well, Elfman was being vigilant; Lisanna looked miserable.
"Elfman, can we go now?" Lisanna moaned as she rubbed her aching arm.
Elfman shook his head furiously, "No, I'm not letting them out of my sight."
Lisanna sighed, "Can we at least get something to eat?" she asked as she felt her stomach rumble.
"Nah, I already ate," Elfman said, making his sister groan in annoyance.
"Look Elfman," Lisanna said as she looked crossly at her brother, "Night Terror isn't going to hurt Mira. He's a member of Fairy Tail and our friend. They are just going to enjoy the day together and that's that, okay."
Elfman bowed his head in thought, "I see.." he muttered.
"Good," Lisanna happily said.
"...what you telling is that I should sabotage their date so Mira would never think of going out with him again," Elfman declared before he took off in the direction of Night Terror and Mirajane.
"What!" Lisanna shouted, "that's not at all what I said."
But it was too late. Lisanna could only watch as her brother ran straight at Night Terror, planning to tackle him and challenge him to a fight. However, a loose cobble stone made Elfman trip before he could reach the Night Terror. As he fell to the ground, he accidentally knocked over a vendor selling flowers in a basket. The flowers flew through the air and one rose was caught by a surprised Night Terror. Mirajane, who had her back turned to him as she looked through a shop window, turned towards him and gasped in delight at the rose Night Terror was seemingly giving her.
"Oh Night, it's beautiful," she said taking the flower from him.
Night Terror looked around in confusion, wondering where the flower had come from, but before he could explain Mirajane had already dragged him to the next shop.
Elfman sat up and rubbed his face to relieve himself of the pain. He watched the two leave and was about to pursue when he heard an irritated cough behind him. Elfman looked around and saw the flower vendor looked at him angrily, expecting reparations for his lost products.
Lisanna sighed as she watched her brother cough up the money before she turned away and left.
"I'm going home," Lisanna muttered to herself.
Elfman wasn't the only person wanting to sabotage their date, Charlie Daniels observed them from around the corner eagerly.
"So, he wants to play it that way," Charlie growled, "It is therefore up to me show my dear sweet Mirajane that I'm worthy of her adoration and not that demon. All I need to do is wait for the right time to strike."
"Oh, Night look," the voice of Mirajane caught Charlie's attention.
Mirajane was kneeling in front of a cardboard box outside of a shop. Inside of the box was a litter of Rottweiler puppies who yipped and licked Mirajane's hand as she stroked them.
"Aren't they adorable," she squealed, causing Night Terror to chuckle.
"Indeed they are," he agreed as he petted a puppy carefully with claw.
"Perfect," Charlie muttered.
He waited for them to leave before getting out of hiding place and going up to the litter. Picking up one of the puppies roughly, he grinned manically to himself.
"I just need to give this to Mirajane and she will fall for me," he cried as the puppy yelped and try to wiggle out of his grasp.
"It's a shame we couldn't adopt one," Mirajane sighed sadly as they walked down the street.
Night Terror looked down at her sympathetically, "It is for the best. I do not think their mother would like them to be taken."
Mirajane giggled, "I suppose. Ah well," she shrugged.
Charlie was about to follow the two when he heard a threatening growl behind him. He slowly turned around and looked down at the fully grown Rottweiler snarling at him.
Charlie looked down at the struggling puppy in his hands and then back at its mother.
He gulped and placed the puppy back into the box, hoping that it would calm the dog down.
It didn't.
Elfman perched himself on the edge of a roof and waited for Night Terror and Mirajane to pass under him.
"This is it," Elfman told himself, "prove yourself how much of a man you are, Night Terror."
He waited until Night Terror was directly underneath him and then he jumped, attempting to attack him from above.
"Prove yourself, Night Terror!" he shouted as he fell towards the unsuspecting Phobos.
And he would have succeeded...if his calculations weren't incorrect.
Elfman completely missed Night Terror and crushed the man tailing them.
A Few Moments Earlier
Charlie Daniels had finally escaped from the Rottweiler's jaws and was following Mirajane and Elfman. He planned to grab ahold of Night Terror's robe, pull it off and show the world the devil incarnate. Then Mirajane will turn to him as her saviour and lover.
It was perfect. Charlie was about to reach out to grab the robe when he noticed a shadow over him getting bigger and bigger.
"Prove yourself, Night Terror!" a voice shouted above him.
The last thing Charlie saw as he looked up was the silhouette of a muscular man about to fall on him.
The two men laid on the ground, one on top of the other, completely unconscious. Mirajane and Night Terror continued walking down the street, oblivious to what happened behind them.
Later on Mirajane and Night Terror passed by a stall giving away samples of a chocolate drink.
"Would you like a free sample?" the vendor offered to Mirajane before she looked at Night Terror nervously, "and for your..partner."
"Yes, we would," Mirajane agreed brightly as the vendor offered them two small cups.
What they didn't know is that Charlie, having recovered from being crushed by Elfman, had snuck over to the stall earlier, sneakily took one of the samples and tipped a potion from a small bottle into the sample and swirled it around with his finger. The potion was something he picked up earlier and was for medicinal purposes.
What medicinal purposes? The kind that relieve people of constipation and should only be taken in small doses. Imagine the effects of a the whole bottle.
Charlie placed the sample back on the tray without the vendor knowing, hid, and prayed that Night Terror would take that sample. To his delight, the vendor gave him the sample he had tainted.
He waited with baited breath as Night Terror raised the sample to his hood, ready to drink the potion.
Suddenly, a person carrying a rug walked behind him and accidentally knocked him with it. The sample fell out of his claw and onto the pavement with a splat.
Charlie looked at the fallen sample in dismay, seeing another of his plan failing.
"Oh dear," Night Terror uttered before he glanced back at the man with the rug, "strange, I am usually more observant," he mused.
"It's fine," the vendor said as she passed him another sample, "you can have another one."
Night Terror thanked her and tasted the sample. Both him and Mirajane agreed it was delicious and brought a bottle each.
Charlie watched them walk away in irritation. None of his plans had worked and he was starting to get impatient. Maybe that Phobos cursed him in somehow.
"Enough is enough, foul creature," Charlie growled as licked a bit of chocolate of his index finger, "my next plan will not fa-"
He stopped suddenly and looked at the finger he just licked. The same finger he used to mix the potion into the sample.
"Oh no."
Clothes Shop
"So Night, what do you think of this one?" Mirajane asked as she pulled back the curtain of her changing room booth.
Night Terror, who was sat on one of those seats in the changing area reserved for husbands, boyfriends, bored children or rejected items of clothing, looked up and saw Mirajane was now wearing a blue summer dress.
He blushed for what felt like millionth time today as the white haired woman posed for him.
"I-it looks beautiful, Miss Mirajane," Night Terror answered with a small stutter, earning a giggle from Mirajane.
"You said that for every outfit I tried on," she said with a teasing smile.
"Well…" the Phobos stammered in embarrassment, "that is because…you are beautiful, Miss Mirajane," he shyly admitted.
Mirajane blinked in surprise before a smile spread across her face. She turned around to hide her flushed cheeks and entered the changing booth once more.
"Thanks Night," she said, "this is the last one I promise," she closed the curtain behind her and jumped up and down in joy. She felt like a schoolgirl on a date with her crush, nothing can ruin the moment.
Night Terror was slightly relieved that this part was done. He didn't think his heart can take anymore of her trying on outfits for him. Still, it had been an enjoyable day. He has learned more about Mirajane in a few hours than he has in seven years at the guild.
From behind a clothing rack, Elfman peaked out and stared at Night Terror. He has not had a good idea. He had learned that his older sister was going out with a man, gotten beat up by that same sister, having to pay for the flowers he destroyed and finally he knocked himself out. But this time was different, he was going to challenge Night Terror to a fight and there was nobody who is going to stop hi-
"Excuse me sir," Elfman yelped in surprise and turned to the shop assistant next to him, "you have been staring at the changing area for five minutes now. You're not spying on our customers, are you?" the shop assistant asked as she raised a suspicious eyebrow.
"No, no, no, no," the male Strauss sibling denied frantically, "I was just…" he looked around to find an excuse. His eyes landed on a red t-shirt and pair of trousers in the men's aisle and picked them up, "…waiting for a changing booth to open so I can try this on," he nervously excused himself.
The shop assistant hummed, not quiet believing his story.
"I think I can see a booth open, so I'll just…" he trailed off as he scooted away from the shop assistant and headed to the changing area.
He snuck by Night Terror and entered the booth next to Mirajane's and closed the curtain. Afraid that the shop assistant would throw him out, he looked down at the clothes in his hands.
"I might as well," he grumbled as he began to change.
A Few Moments Earlier
Charlie Daniels stormed into the clothes shop. His clothes were torn, his face and arms were bruised, and he may have to see a chiropractor to sort out his aching back.
He too, has not had a great day. He was thrown into a forest, mauled by a very angry dog, crushed by muscular giant, and was barred from that restaurant and its toilets for life.
But this time he will succeed.
He saw a flicker of silver hair entering a changing booth and instantly assumed it was sweet Mirajane. To confirm this, Night Terror was standing outside the booth waiting for her to be done.
This is his chance. He will run into her booth and seduce her with his perfect body. She would probably be in a state of undress herself and wouldn't blame her if she would take him in that booth right then.
(A.N: Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the worst man ever. Yours truly Victor Soul.)
"It's perfect," he shouted in glee as he ran to the changing area and ripping his clothing off, but thankfully keeping his underwear on.
"I'm here, my sweet!" Charlie shouted as he ran into the changing booth and hugged the occupant tightly.
Night Terror frowned in confusion as he saw a naked Charlie Daniels run into the changing booth.
"What on earth is he doing?" he muttered to himself before the booth in front of him opened up to reveal Mirajane back in her normal dress.
"I think I've tortured you enough, Night," Mirajane giggled as she stepped out of the booth.
"On the contrary, Miss Mirajane. You have not-"
Two loud screams interrupted Night Terror from the stool next to Mirajane's, making them turn to it in surprise.
"What's going on?" Mirajane questioned in confusion.
"I am not quite sure," Night Terror shrugged, "I am fairly sure there is nothing to worry about."
Mirajane nodded in agreement. She paid for the clothes that she wanted, and they left the shop.
In The Changing Booth
Meanwhile, two naked men tried to process what just happened. Elfman was in the middle of getting change before he was tackled into an embrace by a very fat and sweaty man. Charlie, however, ran into the booth and hugged what he thought was going to be the curvaceous body of woman, but instead his face slammed into a muscular chest.
A man's chest.
"What are you doing!" Elfman demanded angrily.
"What am I doing!?" Charlie retorted, "What are you doing!? You're not my sexy Mirajane!"
Elfman blinked in surprise, working out what he just said. His eyes narrowed and he bared his teeth angrily, making Charlie gulp.
"You ran in here, thinking that it was MY SISTER!" Elfman shouted at the terrified man.
"Oh no," Charlie muttered in terror.
Later, Charlie Daniels would decide to give up on trying to seduce Mirajane after what Elfman did to him.
En Route to the Guild
Night Terror and Mirajane walked back to the guild, deciding to spend the rest of the evening talking over a pot of tea.
The silver haired woman had never been happier. Sure, it started to rough but she soon learned to relax and had an amazing day with Night Terror. The Phobos also enjoyed spending the day with Mirajane. He wasn't quite sure what it was to call it: a date or just an outing with a friend. However, he supposed it didn't matter as long as Mirajane was happy.
"Thank you for inviting me, Miss Mirajane," Night Terror said, "I rarely spend the entire day with people."
Mirajane giggled and hugged his arm, "Thank you for agreeing to come. Today's been wonderful," she said, making Night Terror nodded in agreement.
"Miss Mirajane-"
"You don't have to call me by my full name, silly," she giggled, "call me Mira."
"Oh, of course, Miss Mira," Night Terror corrected himself.
'Close enough,' she thought with a sweat drop.
"Why did Mr Elfman want to challenge me to a fight on three occasions today?" he asked curiously.
Mira shrugged, "I don't know. Who was that weird man following us?"
"It is…a long story," Night Terror answered as they stepped into the guild.
"WHAT!" a very angry Erza screamed as soon as they entered the guildhall.
Night Terror tilted his head curiously as he saw Erza stand in front of Makarov in the middle of the guildhall. The rest of the members backing away from the red headed mage as she radiated an intense deadly aura.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN NATSU, LUCY AND HAPPY STOLE AND S CLASS REQUEST!" Erza shouted furiously at the calm guild master.
Night Terror sighed at what she said before turning to Mira.
"We may need to reschedule our tea," he told her.
Mira smiled sympathetically, "It would seem so."
Hello, everybody. Sorry, it took me so long to upload. I was dismantling the room I made for when football had come home. Congratulations Italy. (But you have to admit that Giorgio Chiellini deserved a red card for what he did. Absolutely disgraceful!)
Anyway, that story of the Princess Bride was inspired by an old Irish/Welsh tale, but I put my own twist to it. That twist being that it ended happily.
This is also my first chapter dedicated to fluff. I hope it was alright, I felt kind of embarrassed writing it. We also saw the return of Charlie Daniels and I made him a punchbag for my "comedy".
Hope you enjoyed it and I see you next time.
Thanks :)
