Chapter Seventeen
1 hour later…
Sky International Airport…
Margaret and Charlie were anxiously waiting when Don came up to them, as Margaret was trying to think what she could say before leaving and didn't want any more awkwardness from yesterday.
"Hey, guys." Don said politely
"Hi." Margaret said awkwardly
"Hope things go okay with Dad." Don said, himself not sure what to feel about the whole situation.
"Me, too." Margaret said, as she wondered if her eldest would try to reach out to Alan when the case is finally closed
After a couple minutes of silence, she spoke again.
"Don… I just want you to know that I am proud of you for the man you are and what you do and I am sorry for not just telling you that but everything that I had cruelly said to you…"
She held up her hands when Don tried to say something before she continued.
"I know that you feel uneasy about not just meeting me but also with your father, especially given the case going on right now, but hear me out, I'm just asking that you give me and your father at least the chance to make it up to you, if you want." She said before pausing to wait for Don to respond.
Thankfully, she didn't have to wait for long.
"Ok, Mom." Don began, "I am willing to give it a try but on the condition that you both try to respect my career choices and not complain about it."
Margaret knew that was fair, given what caused this rift so long.
"Also, while I can't talk to Dad for a while due to the circumstances, tell him I will talk to him when I can and tell him the same thing I told you." Don added, as he knew he was committing to a serious talk with his parents and he needed to set a few ground rules.
"Don't worry, I'll tell him, Don, just… thanks for at least giving us a chance to make things right." Margaret said, as she really hoped that will transpire soon
"Thanks, I appreciate it Mom, you and Charlie enjoy your flight." Don said as he waved goodbye to them and headed back out back to the Phoenix Office.
Margaret took a deep breath, as she knew that she was in for an… interesting conversation with Alan, as neither she nor Charlie had the time to fill him in on what had been going on at their end but they needed to talk anyway.
She just felt tired, like she had been for several weeks, making her wonder if stress has just been getting to her and maybe a good nap on the plane will make things easier.
"Don't worry, Mom, things will be okay," Charlie said, as he noticed her rubbing her head.
"I know, dear, it's just been a frustrating time." Margaret said
Charlie only nodded, as he knew that his family had a long way to go before things were finally fine between them and they could talk about anything with each other.
He just wondered if it would be enough.
