You know a lot of people dream about their pasts. There just weren't as many people that had as long of a past as I did. Even among vampires, I was one of the first because my dad was one of the Originals. They actually called themselves that like they were some kind of secret society. As far as I knew, I was the only child of any of them because vampires couldn't have children. My mother had been pregnant before they had turned. However, my father wasn't a big factor in my life. He had been gone for most of my human life, though that wasn't his fault. The truth was that he didn't know about me. Lately, I had been thinking about him more.

My mother was teaching me magic when a man with long blonde hair appeared. I couldn't believe that it had taken people so long to realize that they could cut their hair. Then again, people hadn't figured out the right blades to use for it.
"Niklaus." My mother remarked.
I woke up because Mary and I were going to be studying together at the Grill. Her grades had been bad and she wanted to get all As this semester so her GPA would be respectable. The good news was that she still had two years before she graduated.
"So have you tried to find the spell at all?" She asked me.
"Mary, I don't know where I would even find the spell. On top of that, I don't really know how I did that. Vampires aren't supposed to be able to do magic and the only real one that I remember from growing up was learning how to make water boil." I explained.
"Maybe Bonnie can teach you." She suggested.
"Bonnie hates me." I said. "I'm pretty sure that she hates all vampires now for what happened to her grandma. Emily might have taught me, but I'm pretty sure that Bonnie won't."
"I don't think she hates you. She's just uncomfortable with all of this." Mary stated.
At that point, I noticed Damon was at the Grill.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"I am picking something up for Jenna's barbecue which I will see you at." He said.
"How do you even know about that?" Mary asked.
"Please it was my idea." Damon scoffed. "I found out that Jenna and Mason went to school together, so I had Ric suggest a little get together and poof instant party."
"Jenna doesn't like you though." I reminded him as I waitress gave him a box.
"Thank you." He said before she walked away. "That's why I'm hoping that this apple pie will soften her up a little."
"What are you up to?" Mary asked. He then whispered something into her ear. I don't know why. Even though I couldn't hear it, he had to know that Mary would tell me. He then walked away.
"So your birthday is coming up soon. Besides the spell, what do you want?" I asked her.
"A car." She replied.
"What kind? How about a Maserati?" I responded.
"I'm pretty sure that Jenna wouldn't want you buying me one of those." She retorted. "Plus people would ask where you got all that money. Maybe you can just buy me some clothes."
Later, at home…my new home. I found Mason in the kitchen with some beer. For some reason, Elena wasn't there and I couldn't help but wonder if I should be concerned. I knew that she was doing something with Caroline, but I was surprised that the two of them weren't back yet. I decided to send her a text asking where she was. It was kind of awkward being at the party without my girlfriend, even though I was living there.
"Do you know where Elena is?" I asked Mary.
"I don't." Mary responded. "But if you're concerned, maybe you can do a locator spell to find her."
"I don't know how to do magic, Mary." I reminded her. "Can you please stop bringing it up? I know that you're anxious, but I can't do any of that right now and this is really confusing for me right now. Everything that I thought I knew has changed."
"Well how are you going to learn?" She inquired.
"I don't know, but it should be something for me to figure out." I explained. "I don't even have a grimoire."

"Why didn't you tell me?" My father asked my mother. I wasn't standing next to her, but I was still close enough to hear them.
"I had no way to contact you." Mom replied. "You're the one who left me after all. I thought you went back to the Old World"
"I had trouble controlling myself." He reminded her. "So are you going to introduce us?"
"Annabelle." She said as she noticed me. I walked over to her. "This is Niklaus, he's your father."
"The food's ready." Alaric said, interrupting my thoughts. I had to admit that I was quite hungry.
One thing that I really liked about living in the South was that everyone had their own recipes for ribs and the Gilberts were no exception. The sauce contained a spicy mix of cayenne and habanero peppers with a touch of lemon for added flavor mixed in with standard barbecue ingredients. It was probably something that they could sell if they wanted to, but that would be a lot of work to do.
After dinner, we were playing Pictionary. It was Damon's suggestion and he was going first. He proceeded to draw a dog wearing a skirt.
"Oh puppy…puppy with a tutu?" Caroline said. It was supposed to be some kind of movie. I tried to think of…oh no. He didn't, but it was Damon.
"It's Dances with Wolves." Mason replied. Of course he did.
"How is that a wolf?" Jenna asked. I mean it was obviously some kind of canine, but Damon really needed to be more subtle. I then headed to the kitchen with Mary because I wanted some dessert. Also I was thirsty. Who knew a game of Pictionary could get people's hearts pumping like that?
"Aunt Jenna seems to be getting tipsy." Damon commented as he walked in. I sighed and grabbed a beer since I obviously couldn't have any blood at the moment. I then hid it behind my back as she walked in.
"There you are. Isn't this fun?" She asked. I still couldn't help but think where Elena was. Was no one else concerned about it? Was she mad at me for some reason?
"I want to thank you for inviting me, Jenna." Damon said. She kind of didn't.
"Did I have a choice?" Jenna asked.
"Ooh these are nice." He said as I looked at some old silverware.
"They're my grandmother's old silver set." Jenna answered. I noticed a certain look in Damon's eye that he got before he was about to do something stupid. Did he think that
'Damon, don't do anything stupid." Mary responded. It was like she could read him too. I started to think that maybe I should call Caroline. Elena wasn't answering my calls for some reason. What had I done to make it so she would want to avoid me? Was it something that she found out at Duke or something? All I asked was if there was for vampires to do magic.

I could tell that there was something off about my father almost immediately. Just touching him made me feel scared. I didn't know it at the time, but witches were always able to notice vampires from simply touching them.
"What is it that you want, Niklaus." Mom asked him.
"My dear Pearl, I have been given extraordinary gifts and I wanted to share them with you." He replied. "Both of you."
"I like gifts." I remarked. "What do you have?"
He then presented each of us with a ring. It was the same ring that I still wore to this day, not that I had a choice.
"Now this is going to hurt. I'm sorry." He told us. Without warning, he stabbed each of us with his sword. I still remembered the pain of that to this day. I knew that he had to kill us, but he definitely could have chosen a less painful way to do so.
I then went out for dessert. I really wanted some of that apple pie. I wondered if Jenna had bought any ice cream to go with, but probably not since she didn't know that Damon was going to bring it.
"Mason, why don't you start us off?" He asked. I also noticed that one of the knives from the collection was there. Damon knew that silver thing wasn't true, didn't he?
Mason instead just grabbed a slice with his hands. I knew I couldn't get sick, but I still hoped that he had washed those. Also, was the silver thing true after all?
"Forgive me. I'm an animal." He said.
I then got myself some, but using the knife, because I didn't want anyone to get any before I did.
"So, Mason, you and Jenna never dated?" Alaric asked.
"Nope, she was always in Logan Fell land." Mason remarked. "It's shame what happened to him."
The story was that he had offed himself. Alaric and I looked at each other because I had turned him and he had killed him.
"My greatest mistake." Jenna remarked. She didn't seem to notice anything. "Mason was a catch. He had girls lining up for him."
"Hm I always pegged you for a lone wolf." Damon remarked. How many of these stealth puns was he going to make.
"I'm sure that I wasn't half of the lady killer that you were." Mason retorted. Now he was doing it too. I knew that I just needed to get away from all of the puns. I wanted to eat my pie and then get out of there.
As soon as I had finished, I decided to call Caroline because I really needed to see my girlfriend. I waited for it to ring a few times before she answered.
"Hello?" She said.
"Caroline, are you still with Elena because I've been calling her all day and she hasn't been answering?" I explained.
"She hasn't been answering because her phone is dead." Caroline stated. Oh. Did they not have a charger in Caroline's car? "We're having a bit of car trouble but she should be home soon."
"Well tell me where you are and I can be right there." I remarked.
"You don't need to be so clingy. I said we'll be there soon." She said.
"Caroline, I'm not being clingy. I just haven't seen her all day." I pointed out.
"Oh look the tow truck is here. Gotta go." She said before she hung up. I sighed. I hoped that she wasn't lying to me. I mean I made her a daylight ring. Sure, it was accidental…but it still counted.
I put on my headphones. I needed a Gameboy or something because then I could play the latest Pokémon game, which I had neglected to get because I was so focused on getting my mom out of the tomb. It sure would be a good way to pass the time while I waited an unspecified time for Elena to return home.
At that time I got a call from Stefan, who also hadn't been there, but he at least had a reason not to be in that he and Elena weren't together.
"Stefan?" I answered.
"So Damon isn't answering his phone." He said. "I just got talking with Katherine. I was going to kill her, but it turns out that she is immune to vervain. Like she's been drinking every day so it doesn't affect her anymore."
I doubted that was the only reason that she was doing it. There were people that really didn't like her.
It was about half an hour before Elena finally got home. I gave her a hug as soon as I saw her.
"Thank god. My day sucked." She said. "And I'm starving.'
"There's still some food if you want it." I remarked.
"I think I actually want to go to the Grill." She stated. The two of us got in her car. "So I think Caroline was trying to keep my away from you. Katherine might have threatened her or something."
"Well next time that we see her, I have an idea. You'll need to play along with it." I told her.
When we got to the Grill, she was there. That was a lucky coincidence.
"Elena, I am so sorry for everything that happened today." The blonde apologized.
"It's alright, Care." Elena assured her.
Once we were at our table I noticed Caroline was looking in our direction. I gave Elena a signal. This would give me a chance to show off my acting skills.
"So what were you doing today?" I asked her.
"Well I wasn't meeting with an ex-girlfriend that you didn't know about." She responded. "That sounds like something that someone else I know would do."
"Katherine was never my girlfriend. She's just a slut." I replied. I really did not like bashing our people's sexual habits, but in Katherine's case, it was justified.
"What does that make you?" She challenged. Okay, that was a little mean even if she was faking it.
"You know what I'm just gonna go. Here's some money," I replied as I laid the money down on the table and stormed out.
Later, I went into her room and kissed her.
"I hated that fight." She told me.
"Yeah you went a little too far calling me a slut too." I replied.
"Sorry, but you were right. Caroline was listening to every word of it." She said. "The good thing is now we know and we'll be one step ahead of her."
I wouldn't say that we were one step ahead of her. Katherine was an evil genius and she probably had some sort of backup plan. I knew from my time on this Earth that it was never a good idea to underestimate her. She was great at manipulating people to get what she wanted. I mean I was pretty sure that she replaced Elena's phone charger with one that didn't work so I could call her. There was no saying what else she had done here in Mystic Falls.

I woke up shortly before my mom did. I saw my father sitting there with a body. I didn't know the person.
"I'm sorry that I had to do that to you." He replied. I noticed that the ring he had given me was on my finger. "There is just one more thing that you need to do. It will take the pain away."
"What?" I asked.
"You need to drink." He said as he put the body, which had an open wound near my mouth. I swallowed some of the blood that went down my throat. Neither he nor I knew at the time that he had created something even more than himself.
So I know it's been a long time since I updated. I was reading it and was just inspired to put out another chapter. I had to get creative when I realized that there was no way for Anna to be alone with Katherine, so I got the idea for Caroline to keep Elena away from home instead. And also Anna is a tribrid. There's a reason why she hasn't been able to use her werewolf side though. Please don't forget to review.
