Throughout the entirety of her school day, Rosita can feel the stares and the whispers from everyone in the hallway.
She is confused about what everyone is on about and is rather uncomfortable with the stares and the whispers.
She makes it to her locker where she is switching stuff from in and out of her locker so she could meet up with Warren at lunch. She turns around and sees Penny near her locker.
"Okay, I love what you did with your hair. Blue is really your color." Penny tells her, lifting up a strand of the blue hair that is recently done. Rosita smiles, bashfully. "Thanks."
"I'm assuming the whole thing about you being a bargaining chip is now nothing, huh?" Penny inquires as she is walking with Rosita down the halls. The girl just quirks her eyebrow up in confusion. "What are you talking about?" she asks.
"Oh, shit. You don't know." the upperclassman dawns in realization. "It's just that the hippie sidekick has been going on and on all day about how she and your boyfriend are going to homecoming together." she tells her.
Wait, what?
Rosita doesn't know what to say. A part of her wants to deny everything that Penny has just confessed.
She had seen in the movies and the tv shows about what someone goes through if they got cheated on and if there were any signs, and within her's and Warren's relationship, she thought that everything was fine and that there are no cracks in that foundation.
She walks through the cafeteria towards the table her and Warren normally occupy just in time to see Warren get up from the table that is now occupied by Layla and her friends.
"Shit." Warren mutters out. Layla looks over and now realizes Rosita's stiff form, her eyes welling up with tears.
"Oh, no." Layla whispers to herself, fearing that she is the reason that Rosita is on the verge of breaking up with Warren right now.
She darts out of the cafeteria as Warren is now chasing her down. "Ro, you gotta let me explain." Warren is telling Rosita. "What is there to explain, War? You found someone else, good for you." Rosita adamantly tells him.
"Look, I finally found a way to get back at Stronghold. You just have to…" Warren is about to explain to her as she just whips around.
"Have to what? Play along while I watch some other girl dance with my boyfriend?" Rosita asks.
"We can finally have revenge on Stronghold for what he has done to us. There are three consequences to his actions: you, me, and Layla." Warren tries to plead his case.
"You still don't get it. Will is not the one that caused my mom to get killed. Will is not the one that got my dad ended up in prison. Will is not the one that took everything from abuelita." Rosita is emphasizing, her words becoming shakier as she is trying not to cry over her memories.
At this point, Warren is speechless. He can't argue with her right there.
"So, what you're telling me right now is that your vendetta against the Strongholds means more than our entire relationship? Good to know and good luck with that." Rosita ends.
"We still need to talk about this!" Warren calls out to Rosita. "We just did. You don't like what I have to say!" she counters as she walks away from him.
Later that day, Francesca Santos is preparing Ropa Vieja for dinner when a knock was on the door. She opens the door, but the door chain that is connected causes the door to be opened a little bit.
"Hi, Ms. Santos, my name is Penny Lent, and I'm with the Student Council over at Sky High. You mind if we come in?" she asks.
Francesca thought about it for a second. "No." she responds as she goes to close the door, but it was stopped by Penny.
"Please, it would only be for a moment." Penny pleads. Francesca then capitulates as Penny, Lash, and Speed enter her house.
"We understand that we are coming up on the anniversary of the death of Sirena." Penny starts as Lash and Speed were scarfing down a portion of the Ropa Vieja.
"This is really good." Lash comments.
"So you want to capitalize off of my suffering and everything my granddaughter has lost?" Francesca asks.
"No, that is not what we have in mind. We want to get everything from your side. You know, so you can tell your side of what happened." Penny tells her.
Francesca sighs as she begins to tell the story.
"There was a glitch in the League of Heroes' system that caused Steve and Josie Stronghold to fight the enemy that my daughter is supposed to defeat and vice versa. Miguel has always been a nice boy and everytime he looked at my daughter, he looked at her as if she placed the sun, moon, and stars up in the sky. He never had a good homelife, so he spent most of his time with us two. Now, there are two people that are considered to be his weakness, my daughter and my granddaughter. Not to mention, that the League of Heroes, as well as the Commander and Jetstream, put out statements that my daughter didn't contact them, when for a matter of fact she did. So, after what happened, it just destroyed him. After he got back into contact with Barron Battle, I told him that if he goes down this path, the next time Rosita is going to see him is behind bars. And there's that."
"And in the end, you are refusing the League of Heroes to profit off of Sirena's death?" Penny asks.
"They didn't support me when my daughter died, so why should I support them?" Francesca asks.
"At this year's homecoming, we are doing a little celebration. We are awarding The Commander and Jetstream with the Heroes of the Year award, but we also plan on doing a memorial for Sirena." Penny tells her.
"If you want to do the memorial, have at it, but I will not be in a room with two people who caused me to lose everything." Francesca tells her.
It becomes apparent that Francesca never really got over her rough patch.
