Hey. It's 9 years later and I'm finally updating this thing. I've slowly rekindled and grew my love for writing over the years so this is a bit of a treat/challenge. Saint Seiya fics are my current passion (I'm showing my age with that admission). I've only posted one from my stash so far, but I thought I would return to what I left unfinished even if no one reads it. This story is very chaotic and I'm going to try to wrap it up here in two more chapters. Looking back on this relic I can see how I discovered my love of Suspense, Supernatural, and Espionage/Spy Thriller books. While these are not my favorite genre of fic to write, I enjoyed revisiting this little project for now. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not own anything. :)
The sun came out like it always did. Apollo was never a second late as he dragged it across the sky in his chariot. But instead of bringing Lucas hope, the start of a new day brought only dread. He wished he didn't have to wake up. The fact that he was in a much better place than he was last morning was the only thing that stirred him out of bed. Despite getting to lay his head down in a ritzy home with all its generous comforts, the luxury he had been without since the day before was not knowing his so called guardian angel.
With all his weight Lucas swung his legs off the side of the bed, sliding down onto the floor. Rope Snake arched his long spine into something of a horseshoe, letting out an exaggerated yawn, the type that only came after the deepest of slumbers. With the back of his hand Lucas rubbed his eyes, shivering as Rope Snake coiled around his arm. Even his companion brushed the sleep out his tear ducts with the end of his tail.
Ms. Rosalina left Lucas's signature outfit on top of the painted white vanity by the door. Still holding the remnants of heat from the dryer and smelling like something fresh and slightly floral. The clothes were soft to the touch and free from the oil that once stained them. After Lucas changed he felt his curiosity well up, beckoning him back to gaze in the mirror, the memory of what he saw last night prodding at him to try it again.
He stood on the tips of his toes, and looked at himself in the mirror. All he saw was his reflection, looking a heck of a lot better than it did on most days, or at least most days he could remember.
"Lucas," Rope Snake spoke an easy word to him. "You smell that?"
Lucas sniffed the air, hoping his companion wasn't playing some kind of trick. The indulgent and slightly doughy smell of pancakes pleasantly wafted into the room. The sheer thought of food made Lucas's stomach growl a little louder than he would have liked. It brought the bliss of normalcy with it, he should be waking up like that every morning.
With a ginger twist of his wrist, Lucas opened the door trying to minimize the amount of noise he made, out of habit. The immaculately clean house calmed his nerves. Sun rays proudly greeted him as he walked through the hallway to the wide open kitchen area, with its high ceilings and bright country style color palette of light brown and powder blue.
Lucas glanced down at the floors, almost slipping on them with how well polished they were. His stomach turned at the sight of a few downy feathers, as small as balls of lint, delicately laying atop the paneling. Where was Pit? He fiddled with his fingers nervously, trying to convince himself that the angel disappeared somehow.
"Good Morning, Lucas. How did you sleep?" The chirpy voice of Ms. Rosalina snapped him out of his worry.
"Good Morning," he offered a tiny smile, to which she answered with a patient one. "Good," a reflexive dry swallow prevented him from speaking any more. Rope Snake would speak for him surely.
"Morning, what's cookin' good lookin'!" Rope Snake's voice was much louder and more boisterous. That's morning people for you.
"I'm making breakfast, please sit down. I'll have your plate ready in no time." Ms. Rosalina was peppy that morning, it almost seemed natural for her.
"It smells amazing Ms. R," Rope Snake couldn't resist grandstanding for a bit, and Ms. Rosalina laughed behind her hand before motioning for them to sit at the table.
Lucas did as she said, pulling one of the tufted dining chairs out from the maple table. A leaf was added to it, making the table fit for a banquet, or so Lucas thought. Down the staircase that divided the kitchen and living room came Ms. Rosalina's husband, David. Dressed in something of a set of tacky camo pajamas, he spoke louder than Rope Snake ever could.
He hollered about how much of a nice day it was, and a greeting to his wife. And she called back to him, calling him silly and telling him to sit down in the warm airy way only a woman could. And David would ask Lucas how he was doing, to which Lucas could only say a small thing regarding the thought of Pit, and how David was grappling with him the day before.
"Mr. David?" Lucas eked out, giving the man a chance to answer him with an inquisitive hum. "Where is," he couldn't finish, but David must have known who he meant as his face dropped to a thoughtful expression.
"Well, he's," He turned to Ms. Rosalina who shook her head quietly, speaking a secret language only married couples knew. "We'll talk about it later."
Lucas kept his mouth shut, and miraculously so did Rope Snake. But Lucas knew, neither of them accepted the answer.
After a short wait, Ms. Rosalina brought everyone a platter of pancakes. Even Luma joined in, floating around her in wide arcs as everyone happily dug in. Lucas sheepishly took his first bite, then couldn't control himself and ate quickly after finally getting a taste of some real food after a while. Ms. Rosalina and David watched on with smiles on their face, and David would ask his wife to cook up some bacon, but she would protest saying it was his turn. And he would cook both bacon and eggs for everyone. The eggs were Sunny Side up, except for Rope Snake who took his whole and raw.
Lucas let himself relax into the feeling of being a part of this temporary family. It almost felt like his party from his past. But he couldn't deny Pit was a member of his party now, wherever he was.
"This is nice, Rosalina," David chuckled crunching on a crispy piece of bacon.
"Yes, wouldn't it be wonderful if this was how it always was."
Ms. Rosalina's smile could power a city with how bright it was. And Lucas almost let himself believe that things could be that way from now one. Almost.
A heavy banging on the door rang through the house, shaking it with intrigue as the person on the other end did not sound familiar or friendly.
"I wonder who that could be?" David said sternly while twisting his brow and getting up from his seat.
Lucas coward behind his hands, but was consoled gently by Ms. Rosalina and Luma. He looked over to the door which David opened carefully.
"Hello?" He said not an amiable tone in his voice.
"Where's the angel," a woman answered, her words quick as a whip and sharp as a blade.
Ms. Rosalina immediately stood up, telling Lucas to wait where he was, before flocking to her husband at the door.
Lucas had no qualms with following her order, but Rope Snake had other ideas. He slithered smoothly from Lucas's shoulders and went to check out whoever was at the door. The anxiety of being left was enough to get Lucas up and running after his cool and heroic companion.
"Who exactly are you?" David asked, unaware that Lucas and Rope Snake were behind him.
"Fool, I'm Officer Krystal McCloud. And I have half a mind to arrest the both of you, do you know how much trouble you could be in for harboring a fugitive? Now where is the angel!?" She had a hurting voice that divulged more emotion the more she spoke.
Another one of those animals, she was a fox like that police officer. The one that Pit had attacked. She had an athletic body and a uniform that was almost too well tailored to her shape. Her color was unreal with how blue it was and she had a face that was pretty, even in her anger.
"Woah, Officer, I-" David couldn't even answer, as he was silenced by the officer's laser pistol, glowing green with potential energy, aimed at him. Her finger sliding from the side of the device to the trigger as she ignored her innate trigger discipline.
"He cut down three of our officers at the station, and damaged property. He's wanted in the city. He's been working with a dangerous individual who steals the light inside of people! Don't you know!?" Her voice faltered, as she seemed to be getting choked by emotion. Loss.
Lucas grabbed Rope Snake's body and began to back away. No matter how much Rope Snake protested, he held on tight and started to run to the back of the house. David, Ms. Rosalina, and the officer's voices got louder and turned into shouting the further he ran.
"Is this any way for an officer to act?" Ms. Rosalina struggled to raise her voice so high.
"Quiet you! Those were my colleagues, my friends, my husband!"
Lucas tumbled and banged his head on the sliding glass door that lead to the sprawling backyard. The officer was now screaming at the two who showed Lucas such kindness when he needed it.
Rope Snake tried to shake Lucas back to his feet, his head spinning at the fall. The sliding glass door opened in front of him from the outside with a quick swooshing noise. As Lucas looked up, the heavenly light of a true angel nearly heated him up, like it was a magnified sun ray. When Lucas opened his eyes, he saw Pit, his guardian angel.
"Come on, Lucas, we gotta go," his voice was imbued with urgency.
Lucas drew back, shaking his head as he didn't want to leave, despite the chaos.
"Come on!" Pit grabbed his arm, and Lucas let a silent scream open his mouth. He turned his head to look behind him, the officer shoved Ms. Rosalina out of the doorframe craning her neck back and forth, confused by a cardboard box that materialized by the door.
"What!? Where did he go!?" Her voice couldn't be contained inside the house. "There! The angel!" She caught a glimpse of them.
The sound of her approaching was enough for Rope Snake to coil around Pit and for Lucas to go along with them. Pit slammed the sliding door, a single crack descending down the glass as it hit the latch. And the officer broke through it with her head, then she rolled down the lawn, as Lucas, Rope Snake and Pit were already gone.
Ms. Rosalina and David called for Lucas back with bloody screams of sadness. Each cry carved itself into Lucas's memory. When they could finally stop they seemed to be back in the pits of that city. And it had started to rain buckets, the mist that befell them had to be the tears of everyone who had been hurt in that awful place.
Lucas didn't speak, or cry, or think. The only thing he wanted to do was keep running. Rope Snake remained silent as well, only coiling around Lucas's shoulders, sharing in the dread.
Pit knelt down to Lucas's level, a glint of his own humanity showing in his serious, but honest expression.
"I'm guessing you've had enough of this. I'll take you to the one who has your powers if you're ready." Pit's intense eyes glowed red in the cover of the rain, when they had once been blue. "I'll take you to The Tiger."
Yeah, this is a bit of a wild ride, but cheers to more fan fiction! Isn't it sad that I can't tell if I've really improved all that much, hehe! Also cheers to anyone who completed NaNoWriMo this month! I won for the first time this year! But that's beside the point. Take care!
