Sora watched the night sky as his breath made little clouds in the chilly air. There were so many stars, he wondered how many of them were other worlds. How many of the stars in the sky had he visited? He could hardly believe it himself, but he couldn't wait to tell Kairi all about it. He wondered where she was; did she end up in a strange place like he did? She must have, their islands had disappeared. Was she safe? Had people somewhere taken her in and cared for her? Was she looking for him? Was she with Riku?
He sighed as he closed his eyes. What about Riku? Where was he now? Was he okay? What had happened to him? Was he looking for him? Sora shifted positions to lay on his side. He knew that asking himself all these questions wasn't going to do him any good. He wouldn't ever know the answers. The only thing he could do was keep looking for them. He'd search every star in the sky if he had to. He blinked his eyes a couple of times before he felt a tear slip down his cheek. He'd been to so many worlds already, more than he would have ever thought were out there, and there was barely any sign of either of them. Even though he wouldn't admit it to himself, sometimes he came close to loosing hope. As he stared off into the distance, as far as he could see was dark. The only lights anywhere were stars. As he rolled back over to look up, he thought to himself, em I wonder if both of them can see this same sky. These same stars. /em He imagined each of them, on some world he'd never seen before, looking up at the sky, wondering if they would ever see each other again. Wondering if they would ever return to the life they'd had on the islands, wondering if they'd ever get back home. They were both probably thinking the same things he was.
Maybe, they were a lot closer than they all thought.
Sora slowly fell asleep, thinking of the times they'd spent preparing their raft for the journey that they never ended up taking. A soft breeze swept through his hair and filled his heart with a new determination. The memories faded into dreams of when they would see each other again, and talk about all the things they'd seen.
em I'll find you both. I'll search every single star in the sky. I'll find you. And then we can all go back together. /em
The words echoed in his head through his dreams and stayed with him until the next morning.
