Ruby Rose
"I just think-I dunno. You could break out of your shell a little?"
Oh the nerve of-
"I don't need people Yang. I drink milk."
We were in the locker rooms. I had spent at least two hours oiling my baby before heading to bed and talking to Yang and Weiss. It was extra sharp. I was really ready to show off today. No more awkward one-sided conversations, making a fool of myself, or doing something socially embarrassing. Just me, and my baby doin' all the talking.
"Ruby..."
I frowned, feeling a little sad my sis didn't even want to be on the same team as me. "Why can't we just stick together? Like we always do? You, me, and even Weiss!"
I glanced over at the petite white-haired heiress, looking for her support or maybe even her approval, and found her attention elsewhere.
I took a moment to take in her outfit. It was the same as before; all white with black lace trim at the bottom of her skirt and a cute little tiara holding up her off centered ponytail. Although she did add at least 3 more belts, with a blue pouch at each hip. I didn't know to much about fashion, but I could tell Weiss was very stylish.
I mean she was rich, which might be a bit mean to explain away her fashion sense. Wiess was cool, pretty, and I got the feeling she could really hold herself in a fight. I was really glad she wanted to be my friend.
"Weiss you okay?" Yang nudged Weiss. "You've been kind of zoning out."
Weiss jumped, looking startled. "What? Oh, sorry guys." She rubbed her arm, frowning a bit. "I was just..."
"Staring at that girl over there for the past 2 minutes?" What? A girl? "Someone you know?"
I looked over at the direction Yang was jerking her thumb to, seeing a really tall redhead. She was wearing a brown corset, long long brown gloves, a black skirt, and bronze greaves. She also had a brown circlet kinda like Weiss's tiara, but it went under her hair.
Weiss's face flushed at being called out. "Someone I want to get to know. Maybe." She admitted. "Her name is Pyrrha Nikos, she's kind of famous back in Mistral. When I was younger I kinda... really wanted to be her friend. It's stupid! Let's forget about it."
Yang's eyes lit up and I almost rolled my eyes. That was her classic 'prime teasing material face'.
"Oh I don't think so Ice Queen. You know she's over there right now, you should go talk to her!"
Weiss hesitated, looking kind of... sad. And guilty. That was the same face she made whenever she was near Blake too.
"I don't know if I should..." She said quietly. "She's a very nice person and I feel like she's had to deal with enough rich pompous and vain people back in Mistral."
She tried to laugh it off, her hair bouncing as she gripped the edges of her shirt, knuckles turning white as her eyes drifted to the floor. Yang and I exchanged glances, and I tried to think of a way to unpack that. Luckily Yang had more people skills, and took full control of the situation, moving to grip Weiss's shoulders, startling the girl into looking at her.
Yang frowned. "Well then it's a good thing you aren't like that. Now come on!" Yang gave Weiss a shove and she being as light as she is, went flying.
The white haired heiress gave a startled squawk, tripping into the redhead. Nearly knocking both of them over. I gave a wince.
"Uh, a little hard there Yang."
Yang laughed nervously. "I didn't know she was so light? But hey it worked out right? They're talking now. So... success! Honestly it's a match made in heaven. I mean Pyrrha is a famous fighter and Weiss is a famous singer."
Wait what? "Weiss is a famous singer?!"
Yang shrugged. "I looked her up last night. She does concerts and everything. Really high end stuff too, although that may be because she's also the daughter of a Dust Empire."
I looked over to see Weiss laughing, Pyrrha chuckling behind her hand.
Yang snorted, moving over to poke me in the sides.
"What's the long face for baby sis?"
"N-nothing." I batted away her hands, moving to close my locker. "Just nervous because of initiation coming up."
Yang looked skeptical, face turning into something less teasing. "Ruby if this is about Weiss and... what I think it is, you, you should know that's-"
"Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!"
A tall blonde haired boy in jeans walked around the area, looking increasingly frustrated. Yang gave him a glare for interrupting us and even I winced at that unfortunate timing.
"There's no way I put my stuff in locker 636 yesterday... I would have remembered having to count that high..."
Yang sighed, snagging the paper from him and looking it over. "It's over there." She jerked her thumb to the left.
He took the paper back, looking extremely relieved. "Thank you so much!" He seemed pretty basic. I couldn't see any weapon on him, although that was probably why he needed his locker. He had a hoodie under his armor, and really blue eyes. Not as blue as Weiss's though.
He locked onto Weiss and Pyrrha. Particularly Weiss. "Oh well hello. It's time for the ladies man to work his magic."
Yang snrk'd, holding back a laugh as he walked towards Weiss. "Okay Lover Boy. Best of luck there."
I felt that was kinda rude. Whoever this guy was he didn't seem like the most put together guy. And sure, Weiss was a heiress to the biggest thing in Remnant. Also she was stunningly pretty and probably had really high taste in men and now that I really thought about it, it was probably a really bad idea to let him go over there-
I hesitated. "Should we-"
"No way. We got to watch this."
I gotta admit, this was about to be pretty hilarious.
We watched in morbid amusement as he sauntered up to them.
Weiss had a really pretty smile on her face, looking way happier than before. She uh, never smiled at me like that. "Yes, I think that will be great! I look forward to it."
Pyrrha laughed, looking really happy as well.
Until the blonde haired guy came in and ruined their moment.
"You know what else is great? Me. Nice to meet you."
Weiss blinked.
Before crossing her arms, not looking impressed. "Really?" She raised an eyebrow.
"She seems to have a lot of practice giving boys the cold shoulder." Yang whispered to me, providing commentary. "I would know, but she didn't have to be so, icy about it."
I groaned, feeling physical pain. "Yang please not the puns." I pleaded. Although from experience I knew it wouldn't help.
The guy continued. I was weirdly impressed. Weiss, not so much.
"Name's Jaune Arc. Short, sweet. The ladies love it."
Pyrrha seemed content to let Weiss deal with him, stepping back. "Do they now?" Weiss seemed amused.
"They will! Er well, I hope they will. My mom always said that-never mind."
"Crash and burn." Yang winced. "That was bad."
"Yang shudup." I hissed, poking her sides. She giggled, slapping at my hands.
Surprisingly enough even as Jaune flushed in embarrassment that line actually got Weiss to laugh. Like actual genuine warm laughter.
"I'm sure they will Jaune. Sorry. Better try your luck on someone else."
He hung his head in defeat. "I-yeah."
She patted his shoulder, waving bye to Pyrrha and coming back towards us.
She gave Yang a glare.
"You pushed me into her Xiao Long. Not funny."
"Hey but you seem a lot happier now though." Yang defended herself.
Weiss flashed her a smile, before looking down at her feet. "I think I needed that. The push I mean. I've been a bit down lately, and that got my mind off of it." She rubbed at her left arm.
"I'm glad." Yang rubbed the back of her head. "That Jaune character though."
"He seemed nice." Weiss defended him.
"Oh?"
Weiss rolled her eyes. "Not really my type. Who knows? Maybe Pyrrha?"
Yang laughed at that and we all moved out towards the meeting spot, my nerves slightly lowered.
...
"For years, you have trained to be warriors. Today your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest."
I looked around, peeking out over the edge of the cliff. It was a long way down.
We were all standing in front of Headmaster Ozpin and Glynda Goodwitch, on what looked like the platform jumper thingys dad likes to use back at Signal. I guess we'd be falling then. Yikes. Okay, nerves back up.
"I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams." Glynda addressed all of us. "Well allow us to put an end to your confusion. All of you will be assigned teams. Today."
"What-oh." I muttered, starting to feel sick.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon." Headmaster Ozpin continued. "So it is within your best interest to pair with someone with whom you can work well. Having said that, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years of your life."
What?!
"After you partner up, make your way to the Northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition in your way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path. Or you will die."
Jaune laughed nervously on the pad next to me.
"You will be graded and monitored for the duration of initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple along the path containing several relics. Each pair much chose one, and return to the top of the cliff. You will guard that item, as well as your standing, and we'll grade you appropriately. Any questions?"
Jaune chuckled nervously. "Yeah, um, sir-"
"Good." Headmaster continued. "Now, take your positions."
I bent my legs, directing aura into the back of my heel and the knee joint. No joke, I gotta find Yang as fast as possible! Oh gods I think I'm about to be sick!
Weiss launched forward first, her-her weapon! Oh my gosh it's my first time seeing it! Woah... were those dust cartridges built into it?! I knew she wouldn't have a brute force weapon but a rapier suited her perfectly, like Yang and bad puns. Dang, I didn't get the chance to really look at it. It looked pretty complicated too...
"Um, sir? About this, landing strategy thing. W-what is it? Are you like, dropping us off or something?" I gave Jaune a weird look. He was kind of a doofus.
"No." Headmaster Ozpin took a sip from his coffee mug. "You will be falling."
Yang gave me a smirk, putting on her shades. I should have brought some too, ugh, now it'll be hard to see where I'm falling with the glare from the sun.
I put my game face on. Okay. I was coming up.
"Like, were we issued parachutes beforehand? Or-"
I launched off and-woah that's speed! Wow I'm going far!
I squinted, trying to block the glare from the sun, and-bird!
"Sorry birdie!" Oh that poor bird. Ooh. Maybe it'll be okay? I mean Zwei can bounce back from being ran over-
Falling! Falling fast!
I quickly morphed Crescent Rose into scythe form, angling myself and bracing my arms with aura, before firing at least five shots to slow me down and then increasing my drag by hooking my baby into a tree.
It didn't completely slow me down, but it stopped me enough to safely hit the forest floor.
Okay.
Gotta find Yang.
I used my Semblance to dart around trees, quickly making my way around thinking hard about the area she must have landed in.
"Yang? Yang?!"
Ugh no response.
Okay maybe I couldn't find Yang. Who else did I know? There was Blake. So mysterious. So calm. Plus she likes books! I dunno if I could really hold a conversation with her though.
Who else? There was Weiss, Blake, Pyrrha, and...
I skidded to a stop, pushing aura into my legs so I wouldn't fall on my butt.
Locking eyes with the blue eyed teen in front of me.
"Weiss!" I cheered. Oh thank the gods!
"Ruby." She smiled, not looking disheveled at all. Unlike me. Who had sticks and leaves in her hair. Oops. "Good to see you've made it."
"You don't have a partner do you?!"
She laughed. "No, although I suppose I do now?"
"Yes! Oh my gosh you don't know how relieved I am." I sighed, putting a hand on my chest. "I thought I'd get partnered up with someone I didn't know!"
"I'm glad you're my partner as well." She gave me a warm smile.
I blushed, feeling a bit bashful. "Yeah I... but didn't you want to be partners with Pyrrha?"
"Hm?" She seemed genuinely confused. "No? I mean if we did end up being partners that'd be nice, but that wasn't what I was talking to her about. The two of us just agreed to hang out together after initiation." It seemed to hit her. "Ruby Rose are you jealous?"
"What?!" I screeched. "No-I-"
She rushed me with a hug.
Huh?
"Pyrrha's great but I would never forget the first friend I made at Beacon. My... new best friend."
"Best friend?" I muttered.
"Of course. I'm not taking no for an answer. As your partner that automatically makes us besties."
I had friends back at Signal but... they were only really my friends for Yang.
I was a bit of a weirdo, talked to much about guns, and was way ahead of my class in terms of combat. It left me pretty lonely. I thought I'd be even lonelier at Beacon, even though it was the opportunity of a life time. I couldn't deny that I resented Pyrrha a bit for being another Yang, taking away the sole friend I had here.
But I guess that's not the case, cause Weiss likes me for me. Not to get close to my sister, not because she thinks she can leech money off of me, not because I have a cute dog.
But because she thinks I'm cool.
I started vibrating in excitement, squeezing her back twice as hard. "Yes! Come on let's go find Yang and be the best team ever!"
She let me go, taking a good look at our surroundings. "We'll need four people to make a team Ruby. I believe the ruins are that way." She muttered, pointing in a random direction. Or well, random for me.
"Right." I nodded. "So, do you ever get dirty? I mean, your outfit is all white."
"My clothes are made with high quality material." She responded absentmindedly, looking focused on making sure we were going the right way. "And have been treated by stain resistant chemicals. Plus my fighting style relies on not getting hit. The only thing that could get dirty are my belts, but after initiation I'm going to head out to Vale and get them treated."
Wait that's right her weapon! "Can I see your weapon?!"
She seemed amusedly resigned. "Of course." Taking it from her holster she handed it to me and I nearly screamed in excitement. "It's a Multi-Action Dust Rapier." Wiess chimed. "This is Myrtenaster. It has a revolving chamber inside the guard with seven slots for each type of Dust, letting me adapt to any situation. My fighting style relies heavily on Dust because of it's synergy with my Semblance, which allows me to attack from multiple angles. I'm very good attacking a large group of enemies."
"The metal is super high quality..." I wow'd. "Really sharp and super durable. Oh!" I pulled out Crescent Rose, watching her eyes light up with surprise. "This is my baby! Her name is Crescent Rose!"
"Impressive." Hehe. "A scythe that can also be used as a rifle?"
"High impact sniper rifle." I confirmed. "I'm super fast already because of my Semblance, but Crescent Rose makes me go even faster. I use the recoil from the shots mixed with gravity Dust to go at insane speeds!"
"Very impressive." She stilled. Eyes narrowing, hands clenching. "Ruby my weapon. Now." She ordered.
I tensed up, throwing Weiss her weapon, eyes darting around the trees. Gripping Crescent Rose tightly in my hands.
Growling.
5-no, 10 Beowolves came out from the forest, each one fairly large.
Weiss didn't hesitate. She blurred up to one, slashing across it's neck 3 times before dodging a swipe, avoiding another Beowulf's sharp claws, and finishing off the one she started with.
I jolted.
This was no time to be sitting back!
I lunged forward, swiping down on a Beowulf, twirling my scythe into it's neck, before pulling the trigger and using the recoil to tear it's head off.
Pulling the trigger again I flipped back, taking in the ones I had aggro'd. 3. Ugh I had to hurry up! Weiss was almost done with her Beowolves!
Pushing my Semblance I came in fast and with rapid strikes towards the closest Beowulf, taking off it's arm before driving Crescent Rose deep through its chest. I barely dodged the next one coming at me, hitting it with the tail end of my baby and backing up while twirling my weapon around, slashing down across it's neck.
I took a second to aim up my shot and fire a sniper bolt into the head, finishing the job.
The third one caught me off guard and almost knocked my weapon from my hands. I yelped, grappling with it's claws trying to get to the trigger of my scythe to pull away from it.
A thin sword stabbed into the soft spot under the jaw, and the Grimm slowly faded.
"Are you alright Ruby?"
I panted heavily. "Yeah that last one almost got me though." I bit my lip. "That should have been easy. Ugh, I'm so stupid."
Weiss put a hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me. "Well I think you did great. That's the point of teamwork Ruby. We work together."
"Yeah but you got six of them and I got four." I pouted.
No I sounded like a kid. I couldn't help it though, I wanted to impress Weiss.
"I told you I'm suited for larger groups of enemies." She pointed out. "Besides Beowolves are inconsequential, that wasn't even a real fight. Come on. We wasted enough time on them. Let's get moving."
"Right." I frowned. "Do you still know where we're going?"
"Maybe?" She frowned too. "I think I do."
"We need a higher vantage point." I thought out loud. "We're too low on the ground. We need something like, a bird's eye view…"
My eyes caught a massive flying Nevermore circling near us out over the tree tops.
Weiss paled. "Ruby, I think I'm sure now! We need to go this way so... let's not do anything-"
...
"Oh you insufferable little brat!" Weiss yelped, holding on for dear life. "I take back everything I said!" She screamed over the wind.
I didn't see what the problem was. Yang did stuff like this all the time.
Sure, maybe I should have thought it through a bit more. I mean, even if I could see the ruins from atop a giant bird monster it could have led us farther away instead of closer.
And sure, maybe grabbing the collar of Weiss's probably very expensive coat and launching us into the air without warning could have used a little bit more... warning. But I mean if she didn't want to get it ruined then she probably shouldn't have brought it out here in the first place.
Wow I have to push aura into my hands and arms just to stay on! A normal person would probably just slip and fall to there death in seconds!
"You don't mean that!" I screamed back over the wind. "And we're fine! Stop worrying!"
"I am so past worrying!" She screamed back.
I paused.
"In a good way?!"
"In a bad way! In a very bad way!"
Yeah maybe this wasn't the best idea.
"Then let's jump!"
If Yang has taught me anything it's to bail when things get hot!
I let go, flapping my arms around-cause holy molly we were really high up!
Okay. Okay I-maybe I can-
Huh?!
A glowing black circle full of moving symbols passed through me, slowing me down to the point where I couldn't even hear the wind rushing past my ears. Another white circle formed under me, and I stumbled as I hit it. The whole thing felt like a solid platform!
"Honestly."
I looked up in shock as Weiss came cascading down a tower of solid intricate circles, the farther she came down the more circles appeared for her to glide down to me, like a staircase. Every circle above her bursting apart into white dust, forming the image of her being surrounded by white sparkling particles of ice as she made her way to me. I took another moment to take in her appearance, seeing how utterly... breathtaking she looked.
I blushed.
"Ruby the next time you do that, I'm letting you fall." She said flatly, but it didn't have any real heat to it.
I snapped out of it. "I-whut-"
"It's my Semblance." She gave a tired smile. "Called Glyphs. A pretty useful one if I say so myself. I can slow anything, speed something up, or even make solid platforms like this."
"Wow."
Her eyes narrowed.
I flinched as she flicked me on the forehead. Ouch! Why did that actually hurt?!
"Ow! What the heck Weiss?!"
"It's your own fault." She crossed her arms. "Ugh, I think I've had enough of birds to last me a lifetime."
"Sorry." I muttered.
Her face softened. "Well I suppose it doesn't matter now, and it did get us to where we needed to go..."
My eyes widened in surprise, quickly looking down. "Oh wow you're right! There's the ruins! I guess it wasn't such a bad idea after all."
"You got lucky." Weiss snipped. She was smirking though, and I quickly joined her. "Next time tell me when we're about to do something crazy alright? At least that way I won't die of a heart attack." She muttered the last part.
I beamed back at her. "You got it partner."
She smiled back. "Come on. I think that's your sister down there."
"Oh you're right! Let's hurry up and meet with them!"
She nodded. "Understood. Ruby, do you trust me?"
I blinked.
Before giving her a wild grin.
"Of course!"
Her grin wasn't any less crazy.
"Alright then we're dropping in hot!"
The platform under us shattered.
...
Weiss Schnee
I leveled out my breathing, narrowing my eyes as the two of us fell fast to the forest floor. Even with Ruby screaming excitedly next to my ear I couldn't lose focus.
10 Relationship with Ruby Rose!
I had finally caved and used the Reputation system, turning on the notifications. It still felt like a breach of privacy to look through the various reputations I had unlocked, but I needed something to keep up with Ruby's rapid mood swings!
And I guess becoming more empathetic couldn't hurt.
I flinched as a giant deathstalker-no, the giant deathstalker broke out into the clearing. Fuck.
Okay, this just got a tad more complicated.
"Is that a deathstalker?!" Ruby screamed over the wind.
"Yes!" I screamed back, readying my rapier.
"Uh... we're getting pretty close!"
"Just follow my lead!"
I had packed extra Ice Dust just for this!
The two of us shot like arrows towards the deathstalker, I gritted my teeth... and activated my Semblance twice!
-10 Ap!
-8 Ap!
Two glyphs encircled us, one slowing us down to acceptable speeds, and the other providing a solid platform to bounce off of.
Ruby was a smart girl, she'd know which was which based on the two colors I had shown, and I was right.
She tensed her legs, ricocheting off the solid platform in a backflip, safely skidding away from the Grimm.
Meanwhile I dashed across the platform, jumping to another I made midair, throwing the massive amounts of Ice Dust I had grabbed from my pouch into the air around the deadly Grimm, before detonating it with my Semblance.
-8 Ap!
-15 Ap!
I did a front flip for style and landed safely on the ground, watching my handy work.
I twirled my rapier around, feeling an air of satisfaction. Last time around it had taken a lot out of me to push out half as much. Thankfully with the help of a bit of Dust and prep time the deathstalker won't be going anywhere anytime soon, and it had barely cost a drop of my aura.
I flinched as the ice cracked.
Okay maybe run now, gloat later.
"Weiss!" Ruby squealed. "That was super awesome!"
"Yeah dude." Yang seemed impressed, throwing an arm around her sister. "You two looked pretty cool."
"Yang cut it out." Ruby wined as her sister messed with her hair.
"Where did you two come from anyway? How were you guys falling from out of the sky?" Her sister questioned, not letting her sister go.
Ruby beamed. "Well-"
Everyone gathered jumped as the ice gave another loud audible crack.
Jaune looked rightly terrified. "Um, maybe let's talk about it later?"
"I have to agree." Even Pyrrha looked uneasy.
"That ice won't hold forever." I confirmed. "Let's get our pieces and get out of here."
"Now that's a plan I can agree on." Jaune hurriedly rushed to the ruins sight, meanwhile I did a quick conformation check to make sure everyone was still here.
Jaune, Ren, Nora, Yang, Blake, Pyrrha, and of course Ruby.
Hopefully I hadn't changed things too much. The last thing I need was to be on a different team.
Not for any events in the future, but in a personal sense... I'd probably cry. Team RWBY had to happen.
"Hey Weiss." I looked up, seeing Yang get close, not wanting anybody else to overhear. "Thanks for looking out for my sister."
"I didn't go looking for her exactly, it was a matter of chance." I replied. "Still... your welcome. This is just my opinion, but Ruby seems to like getting into trouble."
Yang laughed, rubbing the back of her head. "Trouble always seems to find her. She may be a handful, but uh, please take care of her."
"You don't have to sell your sister to me Yang, we're friends. We all are. If anything I should be promising you that I'll be the best partner. And I will, I swear."
"I appreciate that Weiss... I told you before that she hasn't ever really gotten along with anyone before, but the truth is... I may be the reason for that." Oh. She's never told me that before. "I think I'm the reason she doesn't have any friends, and it's because I can't shut my mouth. I steal them away and they usually go through Ruby to get to me. I think... maybe that's why I asked you-"
"Yang."
I snatched her gloved hand, gripping it tight.
"That's... a lot to unpack. Whatever it is messing with Ruby's social life isn't your fault. Even if it was, that's not the case here, I'm very happy being both your friend. We'll talk more about this later if you want to, but-"
"Now's not the time." She finished. "Fuck, why did I just dump that on you?"
I gave her a weary smile. "You've probably been running it through your head for a good minute and needed an outlet. I understand. Just-really not the time."
"Right." She nodded. "I uh-damn. Really have no idea why Blake seems to hate you so much." She sniffed, trying for a semi-joke to hide the mist gathering in her eyes.
I winced. "Also a lot to unpack." I demurred. "I can't... really fault her for it."
[Blake Belladonna is confused.]
I jerked, glancing at the cat faunus, seeing her scowling at the floor.
So she was listening...
I sighed, before mustering up some energy and giving Yang a smile. "Come on, lets get our pieces and get out of here."
"Right. And um, thanks. For the talk I mean."
I dragged her forward, happy that she came to me with this. Yang was usually the mediator in team matters, so it made me happy that I got to know about something that had clearly been eating at her for a while.
Even though I was a terrible impromptu therapist.
"It's no problem Yang."
I snatched up the piece I remembered getting before, and waited until everyone was ready to move out further into the ruins.
Once everyone had gathered pieces, we headed out at a fast pace through the forest, moving towards the cliffside.
A massive piercing screech followed by an equally massive shadow bore down on us.
I nearly jumped out of my skin, running all that more faster.
Fuck birds.
"What was that?!" Jaune yelped, trying to look up past the glare of the sun.
"Uuuuh, the giant nevermore we kinda rode in on?" Ruby winced, looking just a bit guilty.
"You guys rode in on an ancient nevermore?!" Yang shrieked.
"Long story!" I explained, or rather, didn't explain.
An ear piercing screech lit up the sky, and a massive crackling rumble and crash was heard right before massive amounts of rubble and debris destroyed the bridge we were running on.
Our group was scattered, with Ren and Pyrrha on one side, and the rest of us across the gap.
Before anyone could do anything, the deathstalker broke into the clearing.
Not good. I scowled. I thought the ice would hold it for far longer, although to be fair we did waste a good 10 minutes grabbing our chess pieces, as apposed to when we immediately shot off towards the ruins as fast as we could last time.
I could probably take on the nevermore by myself, although it would be a tough fight. But that'd defeat my ultimate goal.
After my fight with Ruby over being team leader I had often pondered the exact reason why Ozpin picked Ruby as leader. Was it her plan against the nevermore? Her silver eyes? Probably a mix of both, and desire to see her get stronger under the leader role for her later confrontations with Salem's underlings.
Of course, that didn't mean I wouldn't put on a good show.
[Ice Shots]!
-10 Ap!
-10 Ap!
Six white glyphs lit up around me, and with a brandish of my rapier I sent fast piecing shots of ice hurdling towards the deadly grimm.
Ruby quickly followed my lead, shifting her scythe into her high impact rifle, quickly aiming up shots.
Yang and Blake quickly followed suit. Just like last time though, despite our combined attacks the grimm's massive durability proved to be way to strong.
"Well, that didn't work." Yang, ever faithful in her campaign for quips. "Anyone else got any bright ideas?"
Ruby's eyes narrowed, eyes darting from my weapon to Blake's, realization slowly dawning on her cute stupid face. "I... I think I got an idea." Finally! "Weiss keep it busy!"
"With pleasure." I hissed, icy blue eyes narrowing to slits as my face lit with a snarl.
I was fucking killed. By Cinder. In front of my sister. Woke up back in the past with powers I could barely understand with years of hard work and understanding replaced by mistrust and suspicious glances all while dealing with all the love and loss that had yet to happen and planning around the crushing guilt, pain, and regret!
Not to mention, I really fucking hate birds.
Notice! Afflicted with the [Rage] Attribute. Effect of this attribute contribute to hidden f#!cto# !#-
Just shut the fuck up.
"RRGH!"
-50 Ap!
-67 Ap
-134 Ap!
The thing shrieked.
Three massive white glyphs encircled the Grimm, keeping it trapped in the box I'd need for Ruby's plan.
Caught between massive amounts of pulling and pushing forces threatening to tear it from the inside out.
I gripped my rapier like a wrench trying to pry open a car hood, feeling the absolutely massive amounts of resistance it gave but not giving a shit.
"RFGH!"
I dispersed one of my glyphs, sending it careening into the side of the mountain. An avalanche of rocks and sediment rained down on its head and wings stunning the tower sized bird.
I stood there panting heavily, beads of sweat rolling off my brow.
Shit. Usually pumping out this much aura didn't faze me.
But then again I wasn't used to pumping out this much aura at once. No matter how good my mastery was my body hadn't quite caught up to my mind. I couldn't even summon Arma Gigas at this point. Forget Arma Gigas-distracted a boartusk could take me out.
"Dear gods Weiss." Yang yelped out, seeing the admittedly pretty impressive display. "And I thought my Semblance funneled my anger."
I huffed, still trying to catch my breath.
"I really hate birds."
"Yeah. I uh guess so."
I jolted, seeing Blake's weapon wrap around one of the pillars, feeling a familiar Deja vu. Twirling my rapier, I summoned at least three resistance and gravity glyphs as I saw Ruby speed towards the ribbon and pillars that was about to be used like a giant sling shot.
I pulled back, feeling Ruby's weight resisting my glyphs even as she angled herself with the help of Cresent Rose. Compared to the nevermore's immeasurable strength this was easy.
Her face was full of concentration.
"Can you make the shot?"
I scoffed, sending her a smirk. "Do you trust me?"
She smiled back.
I let go of my glyphs, seeing her shoot off.
I almost yelped in joy seeing her scythe nail the nevermore's neck.
Alright. Time to get serious.
I lit up the cliffside with white glyphs, helping Ruby stick to the side and go faster as she dragged the nevermore up with her Gravity bullets, Semblance, and momentum, screaming all the way.
As soon as she hit the apex of the cliffside the nevermore's head came clean off.
She did it. Again.
Thank goodness.
...
"And of course, Weiss Schnee, Yang Xiao Long, Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose. You will form team RWBY." Ozpin seemed to smirk harder. He tipped his mug to Ruby and my brow twitched. Yeah no favoritism there.
Still-
"Oh sis I'm so proud of you!"
"Yang!" Ruby tried ripping Yang's well-toned arms away from her neck. But alas, to no avail. "Cut it out I can't breathe!"
"Congratulations Ruby." I smiled fondly. "You'll make a great team leader."
"What?!" She seemed surprised. "But-I mean you-how could you not get team leader?! I'm literally a mess!"
"You'll do fine." I laughed. "Honestly, there's no one I'd rather more be our leader."
Ruby blushed. "I... thanks, Weiss."

Well that's certainly... a lot to process.
But just from a brief look it seemed like my weird power/gift was finally getting useful.
I could deal with that later. Right now, I felt exhausted.
Sorry for the late chapter! If you really want to know, I was busy moving. I also had a lot of trouble trying to write Ruby's point of view. I know I'm flipping Weiss's character around a lot right now but she's going through a lot. Confession. I had actually had most of this chapter written up a bit ago but hadn't gotten around to writing the finale part till now. Hoped you liked.
