Chapter 9: Boomerangs and Blades

Link

I awoke in the middle of that night to the sound of growling. Wait a minute growling? I bolted upright and turned toward the source of the sound, it was The Hero of Twilight, in his wolf form growling into the empty night outside of Teba and Saki's house. He didn't appear to be growling at anything, but I knew better than to doubt a Wolf's senses, especially since this wolf was another incarnation of well… me. Hopping down from my hammock, I quickly put on my champions tunic and re-armed myself with my Master Sword, Shield, and Bow. With no other source of light except for the moon, the Master Sword's glow and the torchlight of the Village I walked toward where the Wolf was pointing. Still no visible threats, but they could appear at any… with a white smoke poof, a red clothed, skinny figure with a telltale inverted eye on their mask appeared in front of me. Reacting quickly as he fired his bow, I shield struck his arrow back at him before finishing him off with a bow shot of my own to the head. I heard my other self give a warning bark but turned around too late as I was hit with a gust of wind that knocked me off of my feet. I got up to see a Yiga Blademaster in front of me. I blocked another beam with my shield as I formulated my counterattack, planting myself as he readied another blow. I charged the energy of my sword and launched myself at him in a jump strike before finishing him off with an ending blow. I heard clapping behind me. I turned to see Ghirahim applauding mockingly.

"Nice sword waving," he said.

I didn't let him talk anymore as I charged at him, only to stab empty air as he teleported away. I looked around for him to appear again, only to see he didn't. Was this all a ruse to get me on edge? A threat? Either way, it appeared that he had seized control of what was left of the Yiga clan, and that was a scary thought. And more so, they were no longer going to be as passive as they used to be. Sheathing my sword, I ran to get the others, it was clear that we needed to leave, and fast!

Once we departed and found a new safe place to rest for the night, we all decided that we needed to find Revali and Mipha, because if we were targets of the Yiga Clan and the rest of the remnants of Ganon's forces so were they, and they wouldn't be as safe alone. We had been using the Hero of Twilight's senses to track them, but so far, we had found nothing. The Hero of Twilight suddenly stopped and turned to me.

I heard his voice in my mind, "They climbed this mountain. The scent is still fresh so they most likely be waiting for you at the top, good luck!"

With that I watched as he ran off, spooking Daruk who had been hiding in his Protection as he did.

"Aren't we going to follow him? Urbosa asked.

I shook my head as I dismounted from Epona "Why would we? We're practically here."

Zelda dismounted from her own steed, "Are you sure?"

"We would be foolish not to trust a wolf's nose."

"I'm just happy that big dog left," Daruk said.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

"So they climbed this mountain? I could have sworn that Rito Village is in the exact opposite direction of this place." Urbosa said.

"You're not wrong, but it could have been Mipha's idea to head here. As there is… Well, something special at the top of this mountain, especially for those who are seeking love," I said.

Knowing what was probably going through Mipha's head and exactly where we were, I had a pretty good idea where they were, or could have been. I turned to the others.

"Well, let's get to the top before they move again!"

Turned out my suspicions were right as we arrived at Hyrule's only non-broken, heart-shaped pond. Mipha must have been pretty devastated if her first thought was to come here, did she think that finding her true love here would help put her heart back together? I certainly hope whoever they were, they would. Mipha deserved to be happy, just not with me… I thought I loved her, and when I was younger that might had been the case, but now? Well, I guess you could say I still loved her, but as a brother loved a sister rather than a husband to his wife.

Revali was found close to Mipha as she lay against his bare chest, both of them fast asleep near the lake. They both began to stir awake as they heard us approach.

Revali

I slowly opened my eyes to the sound of footsteps as the view of the other champions slowly came into view.

"Are we… interrupting something?" Urbosa said.

What did they mean by…? Just then I felt the weight on my chest and more so felt it move. I looked down to see it was not something, but someone. To be precise, a certain Red Zora. Feeling my face grow hot, I squirmed to try and get Mipha off of me. The good news is it worked, the bad news is she was waking up so slowly that she fell off me as I tried to get up, drawing more attention that she had decided to make me her mattress, pillow, and blanket in the middle of the night. I got up as quick as I could as Urbosa laughed, attaching my armor as fast as I could as I continued to try and hide my embarrassment.

"I appreciate your concern, but you really didn't have to come looking for me." I said.

Link shook his head,

"It's not that, the Yiga attacked us in the village. This time under Ghirahim's leadership. It's imperative we keep moving and find those swords."

"Right well, any idea where to look?"

He sighed in defeat, "I thought I did, but I checked my map this morning, no locations match what was told to me by Kass."

I groaned in annoyance, more riddles!

"So what do we do now?"

Suddenly, 6 Yiga assassins appeared, all armed and ready to kill.

"Can figure that out after we deal with these Yiga?" Link said.

He drew his weapons as I readied my Bow soon followed by the rest of the Champions, arming or otherwise preparing themselves for the coming conflict. We all charged into the fight, unsurprisingly making short work of them, as these Cowardice traitors quickly learned one of the many reasons why we were called champions. Suddenly out of nowhere, a yellow boomerang whizzed right over our heads, hitting 6 More Yiga Assassins, ready to strike with their bows from a location we had not previously seen. Link and I turned and fired on them with our bows before Urbosa finished off the rest of them with her trademark lightning. I quickly realized what would have happened if that boomerang had not been thrown, and internally shuddered. Were the Yiga getting smarter?

Link

A bit upset at myself that I had been so focused on my target so as to not be able to see the Yiga archers that had almost ended my life or at least caused serious injury, I turned to see where the Boomerang returned to. The person who had thrown it was a Hylian boy with golden hair with sideburns wearing a blue shirt with a lobster on it. I had sworn I had seen him before, but now my perfect memory was somehow fuzzy about the subject, odd.

He looked up, "You guys alright? I was playing with my boomerang and I saw those people trying to shoot you." he said.

"And in doing that you saved our lives, for which we are grateful." Mipha said.

Although she was trying to hide it, I couldn't help but notice she was looking at him a little suspiciously too. Same situation with Revali, did they somewhat recognize him as well?

"Excuse me little fella, but we're looking for the Realm of the Ocean King, do you know where that is?" Daruk asked politely.

He held his chin in thought before answering, finally he nodded in excitement. "Yea, I think I do, it's across the sea from my home village of Outset!"

Outset? I didn't remember seeing any village called Outset in all my travels and I had covered every bit of Hyrule, but hey time for a new discovery, I guess? I was about to move forward when I was stopped by Revali. He looked around before whispering to me.

"I don't know about this Link; we have no idea who this kid is."

"He doesn't seem like a threat, plus I remember him, somehow."

"Me too, but that isn't always a good thing and still…"

Revali looked over his shoulder toward the child who was checking his boomerang for damage. He looked back to me.

"Are you sure that this boy knows where this so-called Phantom Sword is, and more so isn't going to stab us in the back the first chance he gets?"

"One way to find out, Rev. One way to find out."

He sighed, "Fine, but if we get lost in the middle of nowhere or this turns out to be a Yiga trap, I'm not going to say I told you so."

He walked away to join the others. Revali seemed legitimately worried; but the question is, did he have a reason to be? Well, for now we just had to press on and hope for the best, after all, a little bit of danger was part of what made adventure fun… right?
