Chapter 640: Broadcast
Saturday, March 11th, Afternoon
He looked up to see his guest walking over with a slight limp. The guest reached for the spare headset, put them on, and sat next to him. He nodded and rested a hand on the desk.
"Thank you for coming and being on the air," Trey said.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," they said as they finished taking their seat.
"Trey nodded, "We're joined by a special guest who needs no introduction, and you'll know exactly who it is once they introduce themselves, so welcome to Raven Hoops dot com," he said.
"Thank you for the invite, Trey," Nathan said.
"You're welcome; anything for you," Trey said.
"I've always enjoyed my time on Raven Hoops dot com," Nathan said.
"So, for the people at home, please introduce yourself," Trey said.
"For those at home, y'all should be here; I'm Nathan Scott," Nathan said.
"Thank you, and you heard Nathan Scott; you should be here. So, Nathan, what is your impression of the first half?" Trey asked.
"The best description I could say is the first quarter is two boxers were feeling each other out," Nathan said, nodded, and sighed, "The second quarter was a study in the fast break."
"So, as a retired NBA player, do people ask why you come to high school basketball games?" Trey asked.
"It does come up, but I'm an alumnus, go Ravens, plus my brother is the coach, my daughter-in-law is one of the assistants, and my granddaughter plays on the team," Nathan said.
"Did you expect a game this close?" Trey asked.
"No, I didn't," Nathan said, "It reminds me of the first time I played in this building," Nathan said.
"When you were with Maryland?" Trey asked.
"No, when I was a senior at Tree Hill, Lucas won the game for us with a buzzer-beater," Nathan said.
"Kind of a jog down memory lane," Trey said.
"Yes, that was my first championship," Nathan said.
"Now, getting to the subject of your granddaughter. She's already signed to play in college for next year," Trey said.
"Yes, she had," Nathan said.
"But not for Maryland or Duke," Trey said.
"No, not for NC, UCONN, or even Stamford," Nathan said.
"Were you disappointed?" Trey asked.
"No, it was her choice, and it's a good program she's going to with a winning tradition," Nathan said.
"So, what do you think will happen in the second half?" Trey asked.
"If I were coaching, I would come out more aggressive, enough with feeling each other out. Both teams are pretty evenly matched, so I think it will come down to who makes the least amount of mental errors and whoever takes the last shot," Nathan said.
"Do you think Tre Hill can pull this out?" Trey asked.
"This game is very winnable for either team; it's a three-basket game, and that isn't much of a gap to overcome," Nathan said.
Someone came over and handed Trey a note. He nodded and covered his microphone. "Thank you," he said.
Trey opened the note and read it over. He sighed and looked at Nathan.
"This just in, Tree Hill starting small forward Jade Loyal has been ruled out for the second half with a broken hand. Again, Tree Hill's starting small forward, Jade Loyal is out with a broken hand," Trey said.
"You never want to hear that someone is injured," Nathan said.
"So, Nathan, with Jade out, what does that mean for Tree Hill in the second half?" Trey asked.
"Like anything in team sports, the next one in line has to step up," Nathan said.
"Will this change their offense?" Trey asked.
"They will miss Jade's scoring potential; Flannery O'Brien will probably start, which means they will have to go deep into their bench," Nathan said.
"O'Brien isn't as good a scorer as Jade Loyal," Trey said.
"She's a solid player and is having a good game based on what she had done in the first half," Nathan said.
"You're correct; O'Brien played more in the first half than normal," Trey said.
"It would seem that Jade Loyal's hand was bothering her during the first half," Nathan said.
"We'll have to see how this will affect the game plan for the second half," Trey said.
"Of course, losing one of your starters will always affect your game plan," Nathan said.
Trey nodded, "I heard there has been some personal news for you, Nathan," he said.
"Yes, there has been," Nathan said.
"So, are you willing to share with the listeners?" Trey asked.
"Yes, I will," Nathan said, "I've been named a finalist for the hall of fame."
"Congratulations, Nathan," Trey said.
"Thank you," Nathan said.
"You're welcome. Do you know who will present you when you're elected?" Trey asked.
"I've had some discussion with my family about it, but we have time before I have to make the decision," Nathan said.
"Well, when you get elected, you'll have to come on again for an interview," Trey said.
"I will do that," Nathan said.
"Thank you, Nathan, for coming today," Trey said.
"You're welcome," Nathan said, taking off the headset.
"The players are coming out onto the court for warmups to start the second half," Trey said as Nathan returned to his seat in the stands.
Will be going on a Holiday break; the next update will be January 1st 2022
