Chapter 15: The Power of Four
Link
We made our way back inside the castle via the Saas Ko'sah Shrine. We searched the library, throne room, Champions Room, just about everywhere occasionally checking the jewels we were given to see if there was any reaction. Nothing.
Revali sighed, "Are you sure there are no other clues? No riddles? Nothing?"
"All I was told is that the way to it is through Hyrule Castle and the stones will help."
"Did he know what state the castle was in?"
"He did."
"Was he sure the way wasn't blocked?"
"I'm not sure."
"Well then that's just great!"
The Master Sword chimed. I groaned. Not a good time! Holding up my wing to silence everyone, I listened to what the sword had to say.
"What? ... Are you sure? …. And you just need to err… scan one of the jewels? … Great!" I turned to Revali, who was giving me a confused look.
"What was that all about?"
"I'll explain later. Do you still have that Wind element jewel you were given?"
"Yea, it's right here," he said pulling it out.
In response, I took a few steps back and drew my sword, pointing it at the stone until The Master Sword chimed in confirmation.
"Ok, now follow me."
To be honest, I didn't know exactly where the sword was leading me, all I knew was that it seemed to be tracking an energy of some sort, I was hoping that wherever this sword was leading us, we would get there soon so as to reserve our own energy. I didn't want us wasting all our energy on finding The Four Sword, now with the threat we were warned that we would have to face.
I had told everyone about Ghirahim's visit and his warning, but would it be enough? Guess we were about to find out as the Master Sword was beeping faster than ever as it led us to a wall in the throne room which we had passed right over the first time we searched. Strangely enough though, the sword wasn't pointing to the wall, but to the floor. Upon closer inspection, I found symbols representing the 4 Elemental Jewels we had been given carved into the stone. This had to be it.
I motioned to Revali, my other hand on the symbol carving so he knew what I wanted. He got the message as he handed me the jewel and I put it over the engraving on the floor. Both the symbol and the gem began to glow green as the wall began to rumble and open, revealing a long, dark, tunnel behind it.
"A Secret Passage? How come it hasn't been discovered till now?" Zelda asked.
"Probably because you needed one of the Elemental Jewels to unlock it. Daruk, can you light this for me?" I said, taking out a torch.
"What? Oh yeah, sure thing little guy."
He finally got what I wanted as he lit the end of the torch by simply grabbing it and lighting it with his power of fire.
"Shall we?"
With that, we descended into the tunnel.
"To think we wouldn't have found this without the voice of the Master Sword." Zelda said.
"She has a name, Zelda. I was just reminded of it." I said.
She gasped, "Really? What is it? And it's a she?"
I nodded, "Fi. Her name is Fi."
So far, there were no enemies as we went deeper through the tunnel, but Ghirahim's warning had me concerned. Nevertheless, I knew that we needed the Four Sword to protect the Triforce, so I pressed on.
"Link, look!" Zelda said.
We all looked in the direction that Zelda was pointing. On the wall was an old and weathered painting depicting a boy clothed in a familiar green tunic holding a sword over his head.
"Is that… you?" Revali asked.
"Maybe."
I followed the painting, taking in the pictures depicting The Hero in green when three more appeared, all identical to the first. These four heroes were fighting a giant, demonic, spherical creature with one blood red eye. A scowl crossed my face as I looked at the image.
"What is that?"
"Your guess is as good as mine," Zelda said. "But it looks like every time Heroes have been there to stop him, strangely though, it's always four rather than one. All wearing the same tunic but with different colors."
"Could this creature perhaps be the threat that Ghirahim spoke of?"
"Possibly. I wonder if these tell paintings tell the story of The Four Sword."
"Guess we're going to find out soon. Come on, we're losing daylight."
"Umm… we're in a cave." Revali said.
I rolled my eyes. "Let's just go, birdbrain."
We finally emerged from the cave into a room that I had never seen before. with four pedestals in a square formation a fifth empty pedestal, illuminated by the sunlight of the window, in the center and above the formation.
"Well, we're here, so where is it?" Revali asked.
Instead of answering, I looked at all five of the pedestals. There was nothing on the center pedestal, but the other four had symbols of the four elements.
Ah, I get it now.
Asking the Champions for their jewels, I put them each in their respective spots as the sunlight caused each to illuminate and shoot their respective colored beams one by one, all overlapping where I guessed the sword would be.
I got Revali's element last and put it on its pedestal.
"I really don't see what good this will do Li-"
The center pedestal started to glow brightly with white light, before fading to reveal a golden-handled sword with a slightly glowing blade.
I smiled and said, "You should really get used to magic and mystery Revali. You'll see it a lot when traveling with me."
I walked up to the sword and grabbed it with both hands before lifting it with my legs, it came out so fast that the blade might as well have been covered in melted goat butter. As with all of the swords before, I lifted it high above my head in victory. We got it! The final sword to combine with the Master Sword! And despite Ghirahim's warning, no threat had emerged. It seemed too easy…
Just then, I felt a strange tingling sensation, and it wasn't just in one place, no. It was my entire body. The tingling was accompanied by a white glow that gradually grew brighter as a new-found pulling sensation grew.
"Guys, somethings…"
Revali
Link was cut off by a blinding flash of light, causing all of us to exclaim and cover our eyes. When the light faded, Link appeared to be fine, but… um…. which one was actually Link? 4 identical "Links" looked around in confusion, each holding a copy of The Four Sword. Their outfits and gems on their swords were all different colors. One was green, one was blue, one was red, and one was purple.
"Uh… Link?" I said.
They all turned to me simultaneously and said, "Yes?"
Then they turned and started pointing at each other and themselves as their confusion escalated.
"Was he talking to you? Or to me? Was he talking to you?"
Oh for crying out loud.
"STOP IT!" I shouted
They all stopped, thankfully. I put my head in my wing to try and nurse a growing headache.
"Let's just try to be calm and figure out which one of you is the real Link."
They looked at each other in response, still trying to comprehend why there were now four of them.
"Um, Revali?" Zelda said. "Maybe they all are the real Link."
"What!? That's impossible!"
"So was Rito ascending on their own."
She had me there, but before I could say anything else, the ground started to shake, causing us all to cry out. This was not good. All four Links turned their attention to the center pedestal, where an inky black mist began to emerge.
A deep voice exclaimed, "WOH, HOH, HOH, HOH. FREEEEE, FREEE AT LAST!"
Looks like that freak, Ghirahim was telling the truth. And if Link couldn't *ahem* pull himself together, we were all doomed.
