I do not own Anne of Green Gables. L.M. Montgomery does.

Gilbert and Anne: The Love Story

Avonlea had been everything that Anne had imagined so vividly. The flowers, the orchards, the lakes, the ocean, red roads, ghostly haunts, and dear friends. The only one single exception was Gilbert.

She had expected a handsome stranger, tall, dark-haired, with stormy emotions and a passionate love. Someone perhaps akin to…Morgan? Even though she had only met him a few times and they had gone their separate ways.

It was not as though she spent every waking moment imagining a clandestine meeting with the man who had wooed her with flowers, sweet words, and tokens of appreciation.

Rather it more the fact that just imagining the moment kept her long and lonely days filled. Gilbert was working hard every day, perhaps every hour, or so it seemed to her. Marilla tried to keep her mind busy.

"When the mind is idle, the devil is lurking," scolded Rachel Lynde.

"Phooey," snorted Marilla. "Anne-girl, run down the pasture and help Jerry bring in the cows."

As Anne slipped down through the cool evening grass, the sun cast shadows along the green land. The salty ocean breeze ruffled her long red hair. Marilla was right as usual. She was sitting around, not keeping her mind occupied. Perhaps tutoring some child from Avonlea would help. Davy and Dora?

Returning from the chore, there was Morgan sitting on the front porch, as casually as though it were his own. Rachel and Marilla, looking like tight-lipped gimlets moved into the kitchen, leaving Anne alone with her long dreamed and anticipated guest.

"Morgan?" Anne was breathless from chiding the cows, and she was sure her dress and shoes smelled rather strongly.

"Anne, I've missed you!" Morgan swept her up into his arms.
