Chapter 13: The Fall and Rebirth of Drum Kingdom

We cut back to the outside of Wapol's castle as Kureha sets Sanji down against a wall. Nami was watching as she hid behind the opposite wall, unbeknownst to her Kureha had seen her but decided not to say anything, yet. Instead, she focused on the castle, listening to all the ruckus Luffy and Mario were making chasing Wapol. Chopper then walked up to her in his small form.

"Do you think they can do it"? He asked.

"Do what Chopper?"

"Do you think they can beat Wapol?" Chopper clarified, receiving a laugh from Kureha.

"Well, if even a fraction of what Mario told me about himself is true then Wapol doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning." Kureha stated as she started laughing again. After hearing this Chopper felt reassured and stared back at the castle, hopeful that Mario and Luffy will beat Wapol. Meanwhile, Zoro, Usopp, Vivi and Dalton were riding a lift up a rope towards the castle. Several villagers were begging Dalton to take it easy, as while the doctors did patch him up his wounds are still fresh.

"Listen up everyone." Dalton called out getting everyone's attention. "When we reach the top, I want everyone to stay here while I end this." Dalton's request confused everyone.

"But how?" Zoro asked. "I mean, no offense, but you didn't do so well the first time."

"With these." Dalton said as he lifted his jacket revealing he had strapped several sticks of dynamite to himself. It all became clear, Dalton planned to blow him and Wapol to pieces.

"Dalton no! We still need you!" Some of the villagers started to protest Dalton's idea.

"No, this country doesn't need me, it needs a new beginning. It needs Wapol gone forever, and this is the least I can do, to atone for the years I silently followed him and his reckless rule." Dalton said with tears in his eyes. Upon hearing and seeing the pain in Dalton, Vivi understood that he would throw away his life if it meant taking down Wapol. But she knew that even with Wapol gone without a leader the people can believe in and follow this country would be lost, they needed Dalton. She then turned back to the peaks and clasped her hands together.

"Please, Mario, Luffy, please win." She whispered to herself.

Back at the Castle Luffy was chasing Wapol up the stairs when Mario jumped in front of him and cut him off. Mario then shot out two fireballs at Wapol, but Wapol ducked and they hit Luffy instead.

"Sorry Luffy!"

"HA! Serves you right straw hat!" Wapol said before turning to Mario. "Now you!" Wapol yelled as he leapt at Mario with his mouth open, ready to eat him. But Mario had caught Wapol and was preventing him from closing his mouth. "Why you, munch-munch canon tongue!" Wapol's tongue suddenly transformed into a canon and took aim at Mario.

"Oh Mamamia." Mario suddenly shifted Wapol's mouth so the canon ball didn't hit him. After Wapol had missed he struggled to get free of Mario's grasp, as he broke free Luffy began charging at him from behind with his arm stretched back.

"Gum-gum rifle!" Wapol saw Luffy's attack and had ducked again causing Luffy to hit Mario and send him into a wall. "Mario! I didn't mean to!" Luffy said as Wapol began to laugh with a shit eating grin on his face.

"I should've made you all fight each other earlier. This is much more fun." Wapol continued to laugh, angering Luffy. Luffy stretched out his fist again ready to strike Wapol. Wapol had ducked again thinking that Luffy would strike Mario instead, but Luffy had angled his fist downward striking Wapol in the back of his head. Then, Luffy grabbed Wapol by the neck and threw him up into the air. "Damn you straw hat! Munch-munch canon!" Wapol yelled as he fired at Luffy, Mario tackled Luffy out of the way of the canon balls.

"You alright Luffy?" He asked.

"Yeah, thanks." Luffy answered as he got up. He looked up to see Wapol running into a room. "Hey! Get back here weird face!" Luffy yelled while he stretched his arm up to the railing and pulled him and Mario up to where Wapol ran. In the room, Wapol kept running until he saw a large object covered by a tarp.

"Finally." He said as he began to pull the tarp off.

"No where left to run." Luffy said while he and Mario got ready to end the fight.

"Foolish pirates, I wasn't running away from you. I was trying to find this!" Wapol declared, unveiling the object beneath the tarp. It was a large gatling gun shaped like a hippo. "This is my ultimate weapon and now I'll blow you both the bits!" Wapol pulled the lever and Mario and Luffy got ready for whatever this thing did, but nothing happened. In a panic Wapol kept pulling the lever until some snowbirds came out of the barrels of the weapons, revealing that it had become defunct over time. Mario and Luffy just stared at Wapol who was frozen with shock, but with no other options he lunged at Luffy with the intent to eat him.

"Nice try." Luffy said as he had stretched the fingers on his right hand like a net to stop Wapol.

"Damn you, eat this." Wapol's tongue once again transformed into a canon and shot Luffy. "Got him! Now it's your turn mustache man." Wapol declared believing Luffy was destroyed by the canon.

"Surprise." Luffy had jumped out of the way and behind Wapol shocking him. Luffy then grabbed Wapol and began to wind himself up with the intent of launching Wapol into the roof.

"Wait stop!" Wapol pleaded, he turned to Mario. "Mustache man, I mean Mario, that's your name right? Help me! If you do I'll make you the new captain of my armies, no better vice king!" Wapol begged as he tried to sway Mario to his side, but Mario stood motionless as he just watched. "I'll give you whatever you want! Money, fame, power, women... men?" Wapol continued to try and sway Mario, but Mario just shook his head at Wapol's pathetic begging.

"Now fly away!" Luffy shouted as he launched Wapol into the ceiling. Wapol busted through the top of one of the castles towers. Back on the ground Chopper and Kureha watched as they saw Wapol bust through. Kureha then began to laugh.

"Well would you look at that, looks like this nightmare is finally going to end." Kureha stated as she took a long drink from a bottle she had.

"Doctor Hiriluk, can you see?" Chopper thought to himself. "This kingdom... is finally going to fall." Back with Wapol, he began to wake up. When his eyes finally regained focus the first thing he saw was doctor Hiriluk's jolly roger, flying proud over the castle. Wapol began to growl with anger, but his anger turned to shock as he saw Luffy climbing up the tower towards him.

"Alright, now I'm gonna kick your ass." Luffy declared while slamming his knuckles together. Luffy then stretched both his arms back as far as they would go, so far that Dalton and the others saw it. "Now gum-gum..." Luffy said while preparing the mother of all gum-gum bazookas.

"Wait, straw hat! All the offers I made to Mario, I make to you too! Just don't..."

"BAZOOKA!" Luffy shouted as he slammed his palms into Wapol and sent him flying off into the horizon. With that, Chopper and Kureha sighed a breath of relief.

"It's finally over." Kureha said, just then Luffy hit the ground. Chopper ran over, worried about him.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" Chopper asked as Luffy hopped back up as if nothing happened.

"Yeah, I do that all the time." Luffy explained, causing Chopper to sweat drop.

"Good job straw boy, you beat Wapol. Now where is Mario?" Kureha asked as she walked up to Luffy.

"Right here." Mario answered, coming from the front doors.

"Oh good, you're both okay." Kureha then turned to her right. "And it looks like we have visitors." she said, directing everyone's attention to the lift arriving at the peaks. Zoro, Vivi and Usopp, who was hiding behind Zoro, then got off.

"Hey guys!" Luffy shouted while running over to his friends with Mario following him.

"Luffy! Mario! You're both okay." Vivi said, relieved to see that her friends were both okay. Luffy just laughed while Mario gave a thumbs up.

"By the way, what are you all doing here?" Mario asked.

"We came to help you out with that Wapol guy." Zoro explained.

"Really? Thanks guys." Luffy said with gratitude.

"No problem Luffy, but it wasn't no picnic getting up here." Usopp said as he began to weave a tale of he had to fight off a giant condor that attacked them on their way up. Unfortunately, no one was listening.

"By the way, we saw someone flying off earlier. Who was it?" Zoro asked.

"It was that Wapol guy, I sent him packing." Luffy said with a grin. Dalton heard this and was shocked.

"Really? You beat Wapol?" Dalton asked, receiving a happy nod from Luffy.

"Oh, guys! We found another doctor for our crew and he's really cool." Luffy explained, getting everyone's, except Mario's, attention. "He can transform and stuff. Look, he's over there." Luffy pointed over to a tree Chopper was trying to hide behind.

"You! You're that person from back then." Dalton recalled the large creature he stopped when Hiriluk was killed.

"AAHHH! IT'S A MONSTER! SOMEONE KILL IT!" Usopp screamed in fear scaring off Chopper. Luffy then punched Usopp.

"You moron, that's not a monster, it's our new crew member." He said angrily.

"Really?" Usopp asked as rubbed the back of his head. Luffy started to chase Chopper trying to get him to join the crew. Meanwhile, Nami was trying to wake up Sanji.

"Hey, wake up. Sanji." She said in a hushed tone. Sanji finally began to wake up.

"Huh, what? Where am I?" He said as he rubbed his eyes. "Wait... Mario! You bastard! When I get my hands on you!" Sanji yelled, remembering what Mario had done. Nami suddenly grabbed Sanji and brought him back down.

"Shush. Quiet you moron. Listen, get Luffy and the others. We need to get out of here before that doctor finds us and forces us to stay." Nami explained. Sanji nodded in agreement.

"What are you two doing?" Kureha said, confused Nami and Sanji began to look around as they couldn't see her. "Get back to bed you two. GET BACK TO BED NOW!" Kureha yelled as she shattered the wall Nami and Sanji were hiding behind, scaring them. "Oh, and bring in Dalton also. I'll give him a thorough treatment." She told the villagers.

With Nami, Sanji, Vivi and Dalton inside with Kureha and the rest of the villagers Mario and the others decided to wait outside. Usopp was making more snowmen, Zoro was leaning on a wall, Mario and Luffy were watching Chopper as he watched them from behind a tree.. Back inside the villagers watched in horror as Kureha gave Sanji a thorough check up.

"You're lucky that Mario fellow put you to sleep, if you tried to fight those injuries would be a thousand times worse." She explained as Sanji laid motionless on the operating table. "By the way Dalton, you wouldn't happen to know where the key to the armory is would you?" She asked as Dalton laid in bed now that his wounds were properly treated.

"The key to the armory? Wapol always had that on his person, I would assume it went with him when straw hat sent him flying." Dalton explained.

"I see, what a shame." Kureha said as she opened up another bottle.

"Excuse me." Nami spoke up getting everyone's attention. "Can I go now, as you can see I'm all better."

"Ha, yeah right. No way are you fit to leave and for defying the doctor's orders I'll be taking everything on your ship as compensation." Kureha stated, as she was about to walk away Nami began to twirl a key around her fingers.

"Then I guess you don't need this."

"What the, how did you get Wapol's key?" Dalton asked, but Nami just stuck out her tongue in a playful manner in response. Kureha tried to grab the key, but Nami kept it out of her reach.

"Clever little girly." Kureha said with a tone of annoyance and respect.

"Here's the deal. You let me go and waive that defying charge, and I'll let you have the key." Nami explained.

"Fine." Kureha said as she grabbed the key. "I won't take anything from your ship, but I cannot in good conscious let you go without proper recovery. Oh, and the sled is downstairs in the west hall. Don't even think about taking it." Kureha said as she walked out the room. With that Nami got up, changed into warmer clothes and with Vivi's help grabbed Sanji. Back outside Luffy was still trying to convince Chopper to join his crew when Nami and Vivi came out with Sanji.

"Hey guys, it's time to go." Everyone nodded, Luffy then turned to Chopper.

"Alright, let's go." Luffy ordered.

"Look, it's not like I don't want to join your crew, but I can't. I'm a reindeer who walks and talks like a human and I even have a blue nose! But still, I would like to be your friend." Chopper explained.

"Shut up and let's set sail!" Luffy shouted. After a few minutes Chopper accepted the offer while crying.

"You don't ask someone to join your crew by telling them to shut up." Zoro muttered to himself.

After that everyone waited as Chopper told them he wanted to say goodbye to doctor Kureha. While they were waiting Usopp was getting the ropeway leading down the mountain ready and Mario was stretching.

"Why you stretching Mario?" Zoro asked.

"Just getting ready." Mario explained confusing Zoro. "I've seen this happen before, just be ready to go." Zoro was going to ask another question when they all heard Chopper screaming.

"Oh, there he is. What's wrong?" Zoro asked getting everyone's attention.

"Is he being chased?" Vivi asked. Her question was soon answered as they saw Kureha chasing Chopper with a medieval flail.

"Get back here Chopper! Are you going out to sea, following that quacks dream?! You know he died for nothing!" She screamed as she threw the flail at Chopper.

"Everyone get on! We're leaving!" Chopper said as he shoved the straw hats onto the sled. He then ran down the ropeway while thinking on Kureha's words. "She's wrong, right? You're research wasn't in vain. You found the cure for this country. Right, Hiriluk?" After getting some distance away from the castle Chopper stopped and shrunk back down to his small form to give a final glance to drum castle.

"How did you know that was going to happen Mario?" Zoro asked.

"Because Zoro, saying goodbye to a loved one can be the most painful thing you do." Mario explained, everyone was confused at first, but it slowly started to sink in. Chopper was still staring at the castle when.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

"Aahh! Is that crazy old hag firing canons at us!?" Usopp screamed.

"But wait, the canons are pointing up." Vivi said. After a few seconds whatever the canons shot out exploded and the snow began to change into a pink color. After a few more seconds it appeared as though giant cherry blossoms had bloomed over drum kingdom. The straw hats admired the beautiful sight and Chopper began to cry out loud, realizing that doctor Hiriluk's research wasn't in vain and his dream had been achieved. Back at the edge of the mountain, Kureha was watching the straw hats.

"Good-bye and stay safe, my stupid son." She said with tears in her eyes.

Meanwhile in the seas near Alabasta

On a small island everything was peaceful, until.

VROOSH!

A portal had opened up and a dark cloak with a rabbit mask came out of it. The portal closed soon after and the cloak got up and began to observe it's surroundings.

"Ha... hahaha... finally. After all this time rebuilding myself after my devastating defeat from Mario and his friends, I have finally returned. But, with my level of power, I dare not face Rosalina or this will be all for naught. Luckily no one in this universe has spark power and even Mario can't defeat me without the sparks. But they will soon follow me here, there is no chance Rosalina did not notice my return. I must make haste and regain my power, I must find a suitable host." The cloak said with a menacingly dark female voice before it shot off towards Alabasta.

This was Cursa, a being that represents the darkness and corruption of the universe. She had once possessed Rosalina and proceeded to nearly conquer the Mario universe. But Mario and his friends were able to stop her and free Rosalina with the help of the sparks. Cosmic beings that hold the power of light and life, but now that she is here and Mario and the Straw-hat pirates have no sparks to help how will they defeat her. Is the one piece world ready to face a cosmic threat as strong as Cursa? What new foes or allies will appear? Only time will tell.
