Chapter 13
AN: I've tried to avoid addressing things that people review because it's their view and I don't care, but people are starting to get real annoying with the whole Rias Gremory situation and I'm going to address it. If you don't like the way I treat Rias too bad because her situation isn't going to improve much for a while, but I suppose I'll explain why since everyone is curious. For the record this isn't a Rias bashing but Rias hasn't exactly looked great.
People have pointed out in the LN it's not clear how much Rias knows and that's because they don't say anything in the LN. The prologue shows Issei getting his date with Yuuma/Raynare and the lead up to him getting stabbed but you see nothing outside of that. The anime fleshes it out and shows that Rias followed Issei and that her giving him the circle is because she wants Raynare to kill him. Now you can argue that's anime-only but I'd be shocked if they didn't consult Ishibumi (The LN's author) about it. Now if you want to dismiss that because Rias is hot fine, but there's another reason she gets no pass from me. She was a HORRIBLE King to her peerage. She didn't recognize or at least did nothing about the traumas of everybody in her team. Akeno Koneko Kiba and Gasper were all hot messes and she did nothing to help them for the longest time or at least nothing effective. Not to mention that her being the ultimate cock tease towards Issei didn't help. When Volume 11 revealed the reason behind Issei's hesitance it was just a slap in the face because the reason is obvious and the fact everyone BUT Rias figured it out was shameful.
You could make the argument that Raynare doesn't deserve a pass either, but she gets one because Raynare's intention was cruel but clear, kill Issei and call it a day. Rias was going to leave Issei to die when she could've stopped it or warned him about it because she has that kind of clout at Kuoh which is shown because she easily walked into school with him. The worst part was that she was doing it because she wanted to use him to get away from a marriage that if you look at it was a hopeless situation to begin with. Remember this is not based off how I've written the story. This is based off the Light Novel and the source material. Time for the Story

"I can't believe I'm skipping class to go on a date with Irina." Issei chuckled as he stood just by the convention center to wait for his childhood friend's arrival. After Sona's words of motivation, there was only one thing to do and that was to take Irina on a date. Issei was dressed in a black jacket with a red polo shirt and black pants. Sure it was his normal outfit but this was Irina so he didn't have to worry about being fancy.
As for Irina herself, his mom found out about him asking her out and decided to take her shopping for an outfit and if she went where Issei thought she would, it would cost her nothing. Katase's aunt was an up and coming fashion designer and last summer she reached out to him. To his surprise, she wanted his help to create a new fashion line for girls since he was so popular and she agreed to give him some of the profits. The line they created became a major hit and it was the reason he could go on the number of dates he did.
"I'm surprised that the Sitri would do that for you. Surely her bishop warned her of the danger." Ddraig mused.
"Yeah, but Sona seems to realize that Irina and I need to resolve a major bit of tension." Issei smirked. Irina was right and he hadn't done anything since Ravel interrupted and it was creating an annoying sexual tension.
"I'm here Issei." Irina called out breaking Issei from his conversation. As he focused on his childhood friend, he had to hold back a bit of drool because of the outfit she chose. Irina was wearing a red short-sleeved blouse with a small pocket above her right breast and a cream skirt that went just above her knees. Her socks were light blue as well and she was wearing a cute pair of light blue shoes.
"Wonderful." Issei couldn't help but say as he got a look at his friend. His mom came through again and she looked amazing. The fact she was wearing an outfit from his line was even better.
"Is that because I'm wearing your brand or because I look cute." Irina wondered with a bit of a pout. When Issei's mom mentioned she was on a date to the shopkeeper at the first store they went to, her eyes lit up and she was immediately brought towards a line called the Red Dragon Line which is where basically the entire outfit came from including the shoes. When it was time to pay Issei's mom simply showed the shopkeeper some ID and the outfit was free which caught her off guard and Irina wanted answers. Apparently Issei was the one who created the line which was a shock considering she'd seen the same line in England the few times she was dragged out shopping. Another chuckle hit when she realized it referenced Issei's status as the Red Dragon Emperor and wondered if that was Issei's plan.
"You don't look cute Irina you look pretty. As for you wearing my brand, the fashion line was pretty much designed around outfits that I'd be happy to see girls wearing if they were on a date with me. The designer who came up with it is the Aunt of one of my girls" Issei smiled shamefully.
"Alright let's go" Irina smiled deciding to put all of that to the side. As bizarre as the situation was, she was on a date with Issei and she wanted to enjoy it knowing that these peaceful moments wouldn't last for very long.

While Issei and Irina enjoyed their date, the reaction from everyone else was as expected, "Are you insane Sona. Everyone knows that the ONLY person who could tame Issei is Irina and you basically gave him a free pass to take her on a date." Momo Hanakai screamed in frustration. She along with Reya and Tsubaki sat in the office with their president as they discussed matters.
"Honestly it's not all bad. The reality is Irina will be gone before too long so we've got nothing to worry about." Reya spoke up.
"Not necessarily." Sona said ominously.
"What aren't you telling us Sona?" Momo scowled. Her mood was bad as it was and if she received worse news she would flip.
Sona sighed knowing this would make things worse instead of better but continued, "Even if this incident is resolved, it's clear now that somebody is plotting against the supernatural world. After all this was the work of Fallen Angels and Exorcists and it wouldn't shock me to learn some devils helped also. In other words, an enemy is making itself known and it's one that we can't avoid"
"I know that! The problem is Issei was always trying to avoid the supernatural. He knew what we were last year, but he never mentioned it even as he was claiming me Reya and Tsubaki, which by the way you were okay with since you were thinking about adding him to your peerage before Rias's situation with Riser devolved into the mess it ultimately became. Even now it's obvious that he's fighting between being Hottie Magnet Hyoudou and the Red Dragon Emperor and if there's a person who could determine everything it's Irina" Momo said in anguish.
"That's not a bad thing actually." Tsubaki spoke up.
"HOW!" Momo exclaimed.
"Because Irina is a part of the website so she knows about Hottie Magnet Hyoudou. Plus, if she knows him as well as you think she does, she's aware of the same thing. She might be able to convince him to embrace his supernatural side more."
"But Irina won't do that! Irina wants Issei to be happy and we all know that Issei is happier being Hottie Magnet Hyoudou." Momo groaned in annoyance. They didn't know Issei and Irina like she did and as far as Momo was concerned this was a disaster.
"Well they're on a date and I guess all we can hope is that things work out for the best." Sona sighed.
"I guess." Momo scowled. With any luck things would work out but Momo wasn't convinced. In fact, she was worried that the opposite would happen and Issei would move further away from the supernatural.
(Kuoh)
As they walked through Kuoh, Irina Shidou was equal parts thrilled and confused. On one hand she was enjoying a date with Issei in their hometown and that was something she really wanted. On the other hand, she knew Issei was fighting the two halves of his identity and his relationship with her was a major factor in determining which half he would embrace
They started with a lunch at a restaurant that apparently knew Issei well. So well in fact, that the moment they walked into the place, the manager himself led them to a table and they were served immediately. After that they walked around Kuoh and saw the sights which was nice since she hadn't seen her hometown in a while. They were currently on the way to the arcade, which was a place they loved as kids and Issei decided it would be a perfect way to end the date. "Issei are you sure about this." Irina wondered trying to get a read on the situation.
"I don't see the problem. I'm taking my wonderful childhood friend on a date and that's all this is." Issei replied calmly. It bothered her how easily Issei was dismissing things.
"But what about Kuoh. What about everything that's going on." Irina wondered.
Issei frowned because this was getting annoying. He could tell Irina was worried about Kokabiel and it was taking away from the date. "We can forget about the arcade and go home right now if that's what you want." Issei growled.
"No no no no, I don't want to stop our date but." Irina protested but Issei was having none of it.
"But nothing Irina. Right now I'm here with you in this moment and if you don't want that fine. I can assure you there are plenty of girls who would be more than willing to take your place." Issei said coldly causing Irina to frown.
"Issei, what am I to you." Irina asked nervously.
"This should answer that" Issei smiled as he stopped. Irina hadn't been paying attention to where they were going figuring Issei was going to take him to the arcade but when she realized where they were her eyes widened.
"This is" Irina gasped checking out the playground that they were in front of. The swing set where the pair met many years ago just before school started and where their bond began.
"That's right. This is the playground where we met years ago. The playground where-" Issei started to say before his expression went cold. "Come on out Freed. I know you're hiding there!" Issei growled.
"So much for a sneak attack." Freed chuckled as he walked towards them from the other side with Excalibur Rapidly in his hand.
"Yeah but if you don't mind, we're in the middle of the date. Can I kick your ass another time?" Issei deadpanned.
"You caught me off guard last time, but thanks to Excalibur Rapidly I'm much faster." Freed boasted.
"Really" Issei rolled his eyes as Irina moved to the side to let them fight since she didn't have her weapon.
"Yeah" Freed replied as he used his new speed to get in front of Issei and prepare a downwards slash.
Unfortunately for Freed, he was moving in slow motion for Issei, "You're not fast enough Freed." Issei replied before dodging the slash and nailing Freed in the stomach with a brutal punch that caused him to drop his blade.
"How!" Freed gasped for air but before he could reach for his weapon Issei grabbed it and moved back towards Irina.
"You know I was actually in a good mood Freed but now I'm kinda pissed." Issei smiled before handing the Excalibur to a smiling Irina.
"Thank you. This is a lovely gift for our date." Irina smiled. Seeing Freed had her in a foul mood also since Freed ruined what was sure to be a great moment for them.
"So Irina. Should I kill him or just beat the crap out of him." Issei wondered. He was okay with both options really but he figured he'd let Irina decide.
"Beat the crap out of him. We got a fragment out of this and I'm pretty sure with him dead whoever Kokabiel's working with won't have anybody to wield the others which means Kokabiel might take matters into his own hands." Irina smiled.
"Alright" Issei smiled as his boosted gear appeared on his arm.
"Can we talk about this... pretty please." Freed begged aware that he was in trouble. The Excalibur was his only weapon right now, and he doubted Issei would let him reach for smoke bombs a second time.
"No" Issei said bluntly. As Irina looked on Issei beat the stuffing out of Freed and when Issei was done he was positive Freed wouldn't be getting up anytime soon. Killing him was too easy, but they needed somebody to wield the other fragments.
(Scene Skip)
After beating the stuffing out of Freed and leaving him to suffer Irina and Issei returned home since the mood was ruined. Irina went up and gave her partner the fragment before changing back into the blue tank top and shorts that were basically her at home clothes. After some encouragement from Xenovia she walked back over and found Issei sitting on the edge of the bed in his own casual red shirt and black shorts. "I get the feeling God doesn't approve of our relationship Issei." Irina smiled bitterly. Between the bird flying in to tell them about Kiba, what happened with their shower together and now Freed interrupting their date. It felt like they were destined to have their plans ruined.
"We have been interrupted quite a bit." Issei smiled aware of the same thing.
"But you know what. I'm gonna disagree with God for a bit. You're my best friend and that's not going to change anytime soon." Irina smiled as she walked over to the bed. She wanted Issei and this time she was not going to be denied.
"Best friend." Issei said with a raised eyebrow.
"Well I can't exactly be your girlfriend, but I can have some fun with you." Irina smiled as she straddled Issei's waist with her legs on the floor and wrapped her arms around his back.
"Sounds good to me" Issei smiled as he leaned in to kiss Irina. Unfortunately, his phone picked that time to ring.
"Oh come on" Irina frowned just for Issei to put his right hand on her cheek.
"They can leave a message." Issei smiled as his hand pulled away just for him to snap his fingers creating a barrier around the room.
"Issei" Irina said happily. This time they weren't going to be interrupted and she knew she would have her moment with him at last.
"Now where was I." Issei smiled as he looked towards his childhood friend with a lustful expression in his eyes.
"I believe you were going to kiss me." Irina smiled as she leaned in to resume their kiss.
"So I was" Issei smiled as he leaned up to meet Irina's lips. They connected briefly but as though a spark was lit all the hidden tension that had built up during their time together was unleashed. Irina's lips parted for merely a second and that was enough for Issei to strike as his tongue darted into her mouth quickly taking over. While Irina was shopping Issei got a hold of Akeno in order to arrange when they would arrive and he was forced to reveal they were on a date.
"It was great actually. We had a lot of fun and Issei got me a present." Irina smiled.
"What kind of present." Rias wondered curiously. Given their bond she was certain they had sex but that couldn't be what she was talking about.
"This kind of present" Issei smirked as he used his magic to summon a small briefcase to their side.
Rias and the devils shuddered slightly, "It can't be" Rias gasped aware that the briefcase contained something holy in nature.
"Yep" Issei smiled before opening the case and revealing the Excalibur Fragment they got from Freed.
"This is Excalibur Rapidly and we got it after kicking the crap out of that psycho priest. We didn't kill him because we need somebody who will make Kokabiel bring the other two fragments to the battlefield." Irina revealed answering the question that was sure to come.
"That seems an odd choice." Rias frowned.
"Forget all of that. Please let me destroy that accursed blade." Kiba said with a look of desperation on his face.
"Did I miss something because Kiba looks like he's desperate to get his hands on this bad boy." Issei asked curiously.
Irina turned towards Xenovia who nodded, "That's fine. Given your past you deserve it and we hurt Kokabiel's partner whoever he might be." Irina smiled before pulling the sword out and placing it on the ground.
"Thank you" Kiba smiled as he summoned a blade out of nowhere.
"Neat trick" Issei smiled.
"It's his Sacred Gear." Rias spoke up. "Kiba has the ability to make Demonic swords out of nothing. The one he's using is Holy eraser his strongest blade" Rias spoke up as Kiba slashed at the blade
'This should be interesting' Issei thought to himself although he was quickly proven wrong. To Issei's disgust It took Kiba close to twenty swings of his Holy eraser before Excalibur finally broke.
"Do you feel better now." Irina said with a bit of disappointment as Xenovia grabbed the core to the blade which was still intact. After what she heard she expected him to be strong but that was just shameful.
"No" Kiba scowled before leaving in a huff. Clearly his inability to easily destroy the blade was weighing heavily on his mind.
Issei's amusement at the situation faded once Kiba was gone since he needed answers, "Alright Rias, what's with Kiba and why does he hate Excalibur so much." Issei frowned.
Rias was stunned before looking at Irina, "You didn't tell him?" Rias said in shock.
"Tell me what" Issei glared at his childhood friend.
Irina winced before speaking up, "Kiba is the last surviving member of the Holy Sword Project, an off the books experiment run by a man named Valper Galiel. He took a large group of kids who were training in the church and gathered them together in a hidden location. While they were there Valper committed countless atrocities against these kids all to see if they could be trained to wield Excalibur. As you know, Holy Swords generally choose their owners and unless you're a natural it's impossible. Unfortunately for the kids none of them were able to successfully wield the blades and Valper killed them or at least that's what the reports say" Irina frowned.
"I see and where does Rias come into play." Issei wondered.
"I found Kiba in the woods on the brink of death. When I saw him all I could see was his rage and passion and I made him my servant. I didn't find out why he was in those woods until much later." Rias admitted.
Issei frowned but then his expression soured as he realized something, "Hey Irina do you happen to know where Valper is right now?"
"No, why do you ask?" Irina said nervously.
"Because there's a very good chance that Valper is Kokabiel's partner." Issei frowned. How that didn't occur to Irina or anybody else was beyond him.
Irina paused for a moment before her eyes widened, "Of course. Now I get it." Irina cursed. The fact she missed this was shameful but now she realized the truth.
"Get what?" Rias said curiously.
"Kokabiel's mysterious partner is Valper and his goal was getting the seven fragments for himself. Kokabiel could provide a person to use the blades and the means to get them while Valper would offer him a way to turn the blades into a new weapon. Someone interested in Excalibur to the degree that Valper was could surely fuse the broken pieces together." Irina explained.
"There's one little detail you're forgetting Irina." Issei chided.
"What's that" Irina asked in confusion.
"Like you said, Holy swords are extraordinarily picky and Excalibur is among the strongest. How could a worm like Freed ever be chosen by the blades?" Issei wondered.
Irina froze for a moment before her eyes widened, "You're not saying that he somehow did another project." Irina panicked.
"Perhaps" Issei frowned. 'Or perhaps his original experiment wasn't the failure everyone believed.' Issei thought to himself. He wouldn't voice as much due to Kiba's situation but something was very wrong.
'What are you suggesting partner.' Ddraig wondered.
'I pray I'm wrong, but I don't think Valper killed those kids because his experiment failed. I think he killed them as part of the experiment.' Issei replied. Kiba's ability with swords was most likely a side effect of the experiments done to him. If that was the case, there was a chance that Valper's slaughter of Kiba's friends was his final attempt at getting what he needed to complete his experiment. Considering Freed used one of the fragments, it was obvious that his experiment worked.
"Care to share your thoughts with the group Issei." Akeno teased breaking him from his musing.
Issei knew Akeno wouldn't take his news well but he had to keep this secret for now, "Not right now. It's a work in progress and bad information is worse than no information." Issei replied diplomatically.
"Alright" Rias sighed. This was a start, but until they knew more, they shouldn't be reckless.

After the brief meeting with the Gremory group, Issei Irina and Xenovia teleported home ready to relax since they dealt such a major blow to Kokabiel's plans, "Well that ended up being more interesting than I thought." Issei groaned. The news about Kiba's issues with Excalibur wasn't a pleasant one, but considering the circumstances it all worked out for the best. If he had known about them, he would've probably gone to the first meeting but it was too late to worry about that.
"Speaking of which. You didn't say as much but you seemed to figure out something about Valper during the meeting." Irina said with a wry smile.
Issei groaned because Irina was as sharp as ever, at least when it came to him, "Well I figured out two things. The first is that Kiba's 'sacred gear' is actually a result of the experiments that Valper did on him."
"What!" Irina gasped and even Xenovia was slightly shocked.
"I think that even though they couldn't wield Excalibur, the experiments Valper did allowed the kids to gain a special control over Holy Swords."
"That doesn't explain why he killed them." Irina pointed out.
Issei's expression went cold, "That's the second thing I figured out. I think the reason he killed those kids, was actually the final piece of his experiment and not because his experiment failed."
Irina and Xenovia both paled at the thought, but Irina was curious what her childhood friend meant, "What makes you say that?"
"Kiba's ability is something he gained from the experiments so it stands to reason that the other kids had something akin to that happen to them." Issei replied.
"Yeah but how does that relate to the experiment." Xenovia wondered.
"It's Holy Factor!" Irina gasped causing Xenovia's eyes to widen as well.
"That's right" Issei frowned. According to Irina's father, every human is born with a small fragment of power known as a Holy Factor. This factor is basically a well of Holy energy and that those who wield Holy Swords can do so because of High Holy Factors.
"You think Valper killed the kids to get a hold of their strengthened Holy Factors in order to harness it." Irina assumed.
"Yeah. That also explains how Freed can use the Excalibur since I doubt a Holy Sword would willingly choose him" Issei continued.
"So should we tell Rias?" Irina wondered.
"No. If Kiba learns this he'll be out for blood. Right now we need to be smart." Issei said calmly.
"Right." Irina replied.
"But enough of that. Let's relax since we've had a good day." Issei said happily trying to change the subject away from this grim topic.
"See you later" Irina smiled before walking over to Issei and kissing him on the cheek.
"See ya" Issei smiled as Irina walked away with Xenovia not far behind. If he had paid more attention to the bluenette he'd have noticed the look of longing on her face.

Later that night Issei frowned as he sat in his room. "Now what" Issei mused. Between the revelation about Kiba and their defeat of Freed things were bound to get interesting.
"Be patient partner. Everything will take care of itself soon."
'Yeah' Issei mused before he heard a knock on his door. Focusing his senses, Issei could barely hide his smile when he realized who was waiting outside "Come on in Xenovia." Issei said happily as the bluenette walked in wearing her purple top and beige shorts.
"May I ask a favor Issei" Xenovia said nervously.
"Seems you're quite comfortable with me if you're calling me by my first name." Issei smirked.
Xenovia blushed slightly since she didn't realize she was doing it, "Well you've allowed us into your house and you've seen me naked. Being formal didn't make sense."
"True enough" Issei chuckled before getting to a relaxed position on his bed. "So what brings you to my bed tonight."
"When we were together in the shower you told me that I was attractive. I know what you do with attractive women and I want you to do that with me also." Xenovia said calmly her blunt personality making it easy to take the next step.
Issei smiled as he got off the bed and walked over to the bluenette. If she wanted to have sex, he certainly wasn't going to stop her, "That's fine but tell me what made you choose me." Issei wondered. He didn't honestly care but he was curious why Xenovia would be so comfortable giving himself to her.
"When I first met Irina, she was reckless and wild. She trained endlessly as though the only thing that mattered was becoming a full exorcist." Xenovia revealed.
'Sounds familiar' Issei smirked. Clearly Irina took their separation as well as he did. "What changed."
"She started talking to you again. You would talk and she would calm down and focus more on missions and although she was intense it was a respectable intensity."
"Is that so" Issei wondered.
"That's right. I asked her about why she changed so much and she told me simply that it was because you would've wanted that. Wanted to know that she was becoming the hero that you two talked about many times when you were kids. She wanted to make you proud of the person she became and I found it amazing." Xenovia reflected. Many times when things seemed tough Irina would think about Issei and what he would say if she was with him.
"I see" Issei said almost bashfully.
"When we learned about the Excalibur threat, I admit I was nervous but do you know what she told me?"
"What" Issei asked curiously.
"That we'd be fine because we have God and Issei on our side. In other words she trusted you'd be able to help them no matter what. I suggested that you might be a devil, but that didn't matter to her. She believed in you no matter what." Xenovia revealed.
Issei was stunned that Irina had that much faith in him, "That's incredible but what does that have to do with you." Issei wondered.
"If the reckless Irina could have that much faith in you, that meant you're something special. I want to give my virginity to somebody special like that." Xenovia admitted.
Issei walked over closing the distance between him and Xenovia before cupping her face with his right hand, "Are you sure Xenovia." Issei wondered.
"Yes I am. I want to give this body that has been watched over by the Lord to you." Xenovia replied as she moved to kiss Issei. Unfortunately for Xenovia and to Issei's annoyance, a magic circle interrupted them.
'We really need to put a barrier around this room at all times.' Ddraig groaned.
'But then it would make it far harder for the supernatural girls to come over for a booty call' Issei smirked as he pulled away from Xenovia just as Ravel Phenex appeared in the room. She was dressed in a short sleeved red nightgown with yellow flames on it that went all the way down to her knees but when she realized what was happening in front of her she froze.
"I'm sorry Lord Issei, it's just that I wanted to." Ravel started to say before a glare from Issei silenced her.
'Ravel's bird interrupts my first time with Irina and Ravel herself interrupts my first time with Xenovia good grief.' Issei thought to himself, "Xenovia I'd be honored to claim your virginity but I'm afraid we'll have to postpone things. Ravel needs to learn a lesson in patience." Issei smiled causing Ravel to pale slightly.
"I understand" Xenovia smiled before kissing him on the cheek and walking out of the room leaving Issei and Ravel alone.
"I'm sorry Lord Issei. I just haven't spent much time with you since I arrived at Kuoh and." Ravel started to say before Issei interrupted.
"Well Ravel get ready because we're going to spend quite a bit of time together right now and that Phenex stamina is about to be put to the test." Issei smiled as he turned towards Ravel.
"O…kay" Ravel said nervously. From the aura around him, it was clear that Ravel was about to get the full Issei experience and that wasn't necessarily a good thing.

Two hours and 13 orgasms later and Ravel Phenex was finally done. He had to give the girl credit for lasting as long as she did before exhaustion struck, "This is my life now huh." Issei chuckled having just pulled out of Ravel's quim and using a little magic to clean himself off since Ravel couldn't in her exhausted state.

"True" Issei smiled before wordlessly making a clone to take Ravel home. Normally this was the part where they cuddled, but it was a punishment since Ravel interrupted.

"Yeah" Issei smiled as he moved to change his bedsheets so he could get some sleep. Sona practically forced him to skip for two reasons. The first was that he needed desperately to have his date with Irina and she knew he would regret it if they didn't have that chance. The second was because he needed to decide where he stood as far as continuing to be Hottie Magnet Hyoudou or would he embrace being the Red Dragon Emperor.
Ironically, it was Xenovia who answered that question with her explanation for why she wanted to sleep with him. It was a reminder of the fact that he was the reason for plenty of girls smiles and considering that his orgy Saturday's were almost always based on merit, he could only imagine how hard girls worked just for a chance to be with him, especially since most of them only knew about him from the website and stories from other girls.
